Grouped clips always unlinking

As the title states...
I somehow manage to get clips to "unlink" after grouping them. Not immediately, but after opening up another project.
Although i haven't noticed a definate pattern, i DO notice that the clips both ungroup, and unlink. But without me knowingly doing it..
Is there a reason for this?
It's very time consuming to re-link individual clips.
Any help would be appreciated.

Well, there is nothing accidental happening there. Premiere will ungroup AND unlink any grouped clips. I have the same problem and it's really annoying.
I ran a test with my CS4:
- open a project file, link two unlincked clips, close the project file and open it again: the clips stay linked (which is the expected behavior)
- open a project file, group a bunch of clips, close the project file and open it again: the clips will UNGROUP AND UNLINK (that is NOT the expected behavior).

I'm sure there are plenty of people trying Audition 5.5 right now not realizing the full implications of what they're using, though I'm not sure how a cracked copy can't be obvious. If you care (and you should!), and you want to be sure, then bear in mind that any official version or trial download of Adobe software will come only from the Adobe website, not from a third party site. Give Adobe your support and feedback for a great product. It will help ensure its future.

How to use razor tool to cut multiple grouped clips?

When I group (for example) a audio/video clip with an additional audio track and then take the razor tool to the group of clips, the razor only cuts the original audio/video clip (not the additional one). They appear to be grouped correctly because when I select one, it selects all 3 grouped clips, or if I move one, it moves all of them. Anyone got a lil help? Thanks.

Make sense because you have "razored" the group. eg Cut through the clips at a point.
Not sure why you have grouped them if you are in a synching . FWIW Grouped items only act as a single entity as far as moving them around together or Trimming.
Show us your Sequence ( screen grab) so we can se what you are doing.
Meantime...Ungroup the clips"
and Lock or un target the track you dont want to "cut through" with the Razor Tool.
or. make your Cut and Drag the end of the audio back out to where you want it to end.
or Select the clips you want to Cut ( Shift Click) and use a Trim tool instead of the RAzor.
or....

Can't disable new feature "collectively trim and fade grouped clips"

If somebody knows how to either disable this new functionality or override it with a keystroke please let me know.
This new feature is great, except for that I can't trim grouped clips in multi-track view the old way (from version 2.0). You used to be able to adjust the boundary of a single clip in a group - now it adjusts the boundary of all clips in that group.
This is a deal-breaker for me. :(

Adobe have very much been caught out by this in the past - which is why features that have been removed from Audition (eg the play list, and the whatever it was phase-shift function) have been put back, pretty much entirely due to end-user pressure. During development cycles, it's impossible to consult all of the end-users, although there are a couple of ways in which anybody can have a say - one is in the 'feature requests' forums, both here and at AudioMasters, and occasionally there's also the odd thread about specifics, which the developers also get to see.
One of my own pet peeves about this isn't so much the features that get altered (I can cope with that), but the lack of pre-settable options available. There are lots that could easily be there, like the amount of dBs of 'dip' in the centre of stereo panning, and an option to have the 'Solo' buttons working correctly by default (which they don't at present, IMO). Generally it's a lot of these little things that make the difference, often more so than the big ones. People like to have software set up for their own particular convenience, and Adobe should take a
careful note of that - I think it's more significant than they might realise.

Issue with FCPX transition drag and drop and grouped clips...

hello when i do a alt G to group clip, i was unable to apply a transition to the end of this grouped selection...
drag and drop transition doesn't work...
- i try to let finalcut pro render the grouped part... it change nothing
- sometime drag and drop transtion does'nt work or a message ask to add the transtion to the clip... don't know why?
closing and starting finalcut pro x make things work for a time as soon as i don't group clip again...

You need to learn the concept of "Handles": these are the pieces of your clip that are before the start point and after the end point. The handles are used to create the transitions. One nice way to see how this works is by using the "Precision Editor" (to see it, select an edit point and hit Ctrl-E). In this picture, the parts surrounded by a red rectangle are the handles:
If you select the edit point and the select is in red, that means there is no handle there (no extra frames that can be used). When there are no handles, you either can't make a transition or get this dialog:
If you go ahead and click "Create Transition", the clip(s) will be shortened, because FCP will "pull" the right clip onto the left one to make the transition.

I am unable to group clips on audition

I am trying to group clips on audition. On a mac, I hit command A to highlight the file, Clip, groups, and the group clips font is faded out. Wont let me group clips. Any ideas why this is happening?

Possibly because you're trying to do it in Waveform view? It only works in Multitrack view.

Clips keep unlinking between launches

Hi,
I'm running Premiere CS6 on multiple workstation machines connected to a central server via fiber in 3 cases and ethernet in 2. We're running on MacPros 2.66 GHtz and 2 iMacs. All of our media and projects are on the centralized storage array. When I open the same project on different machines (even on the same machine sometimes) Premiere gives me a dialogue box saying it can't find the media. I'm not opening the project on multiple machines simultaneously - only one machine opens a Premiere project at a time...it just may be a different machine each time. I have tried relinking when first launching the program and the next time I open the project the same thing happens. I have tried "skip all" which works sometimes but Premiere still has to locate all the files every time. Also, I get the same dialogue box on the next launch.
If the path fo teh project AND the media have not changed between launching why does it still think that clips are unlinked?

Until Adobe Anywhere is released, the general recommendation is to store projects and media on local drives only.

Why can't I delete this audio clip or unlink it?

Please see uploaded screenshot. The soundtrack here is a continuous clip of music but I have snipped it to coincided exactly with the video clip above, and I've also snipped the Audio 1 clip at the same place. There's nothing above, ie all other tracks at this point are empty. What I don't understand is why there's no rt-click at this point either for unlinking the audio/video on Tracks 1 (audio/video), nor for the Soundtrack beneath. (In other places I've been able to unlink audio/video and indeed delete either audio or video from particular clips.) What's different about this one? I realise I may not have given enough info to provide an answer here.
Apologies for my clumsy arrows -- they are meant to show how the different rt-click menus relate to the video and audio part of track 1 -- ie nowhere does the unlink or delete option appear on this occasion. The snip goes through the video / audio tradk and the Soundtrack at the same point, fore and aft.

Did you find the Delete Audio and Delete Video commands?
If yes, please disregard.
If no, right click the file on the Expert workspace Timeline (video and audio not have to be unlinked beforehand), and then, from the pop up menu, select either Delete Audio or Delete Video.

Cs3 grouping clips for slow motion.

hi im editing multiple clips of video and the song that im using is 10 seconds to long. my idea to solve this is to slow the clips down to around 90ish% speed so it increases there time so they are the exact length of the song. I thouhgt I would be able to highlight all the clips then right click and chose group then use the time stretch tool to stretch the group as a whole but this does not work. I would like to know if there is any way to do this. the only work around i have found is export the clips so they become one then import them back in and edit them that way of play around with each clip individually. im new to cs3 so please bear with me and this might be very simple and I could just be missing it so any help is appreciated.

Nesting sequences:
Copy/paste your clips that need to slow down in a new sequence.
Nou bring this sequence into your main timeline and use the strecht tool to slow it down.

How to make Group clip it's content ?

Currently I've done this by using the clipAndEnableScrolling="true" property and my case scenario is simple:

When you have an inner Glow but you want to have it on left right and bottom but not top for example case like tab bar above, what I do is increase the height of the background by the blurX/Y value and move it y = - blurX/Y value. So it gets outside of the container and gets cut off.
It's not cut off till I set clipAndEnableScrolling="true", although I don't want to scroll anything, I just want to clip. I could also mask for example...
That's why I am asking what's the right way to clip? Anyone?

VFW clips always render in Desktop Mode

Hi,
Sometimes I use the following workflow: import the files compressed with VFW (Video for Windows) codec into Premiere, then preview and export them using the same VFW codec. During this procedure Premiere should not recompress the clips to which the effects are not applied. This works fine for me in Premiere 1.5, but in Premiere 2.0 and 3.0 these clips are always recompressed.
I tried several VFW codecs (Huffyuv, Morgan M-JPEG, Cinepak, Indeo) and the same happens for all of them. The only case, when it works for me as it should in a Desktop mode, are Uncompressed 8-bit/10-bit File Format use cases.
What I actually do:
Make a custom preset with Editing mode set to Desktop and the compressor set to some VFW codec.
Import the material which is compressed with this VFW codec (all the video parameters match the project settings).
When the clip is placed on the timeline the red line appears above the clip (this seems to be not correct). After performing a preview the clip gets rendered and the line above it changes to green.
To ensure that the clip settings match the project settings I get the rendered preview file from the Adobe Premiere Preview Files folder and place it on the timeline. The red line above the already rendered clip appears again and the clip is rendered once more time (the problem persists).
So, I would like to ask is it possible to use the VFW codec in a Desktop mode without a full recompression during preview/export, or may be its a problem of my own single configuration?

I just want to remind, that I think, this discussion does not lead to resolve the point of my original question, but here are my comments:

I need to stabilize just the selective parts of the material which actually will be used in the project (not the whole source since it is unneeded, lossy and time consuming procedure), and sometimes different presets are used for different parts. Which these parts are, I will know only after editing with Premiere. In Vdub during material preparation I only tune fields, luma/levels, etc. issues without thoroughly watching the source material.

I like and often use the Track motion in AE, but not the Stabilize motion function, the Vdubs one suit me better.

I think its a cool feature, obviously, by using the DL you have the ability to quickly change some parameters in both Premiere and AE at any time and this is the plus. I was not able to test it (my version is not Production Premium), but any such a feature has its drawbacks. Just a one of them from the Premiere help files:

Many of the work I do in AE are time consuming operations. When I work with a huge number of effects, layers and nested compositions in AE I like to pre-render compositions to optimize the work inside AE and when I finish the composition in AE for me is better to render it. When AE compositions are complex (actually they are) and may render several hours, my computer and me may not survive with this.
There are other cross-application workflows available between AE and Premiere, like a copy/paste and project import, but they have limitations about which I do not want to care of mostly, while editing. Nevertheless, I use these workflows in simple cases (mainly when getting the materials from Premiere to AE).
I agree, that it is possible to avoid several generations by using current cross-application workflow. But with this workflow I will:
1) Loose a lot of time on time consuming operations.
2) Need to take care about limitations of Premiere/AE interaction.
3) Be limited to use the Premiere & AE without my preferable types of external processing, which do not support the DL (including, but not limited to, a Vdub stabilization function).
To summarize, I prefer using Premiere for real-time editing without this workflow.
By the way (just back to my original question): could you, please, make the following few steps in your Premiere CS3, this may help:
1) In Premiere, create a new preset based on one of the DV presets. On the Custom settings set General -> Editing Mode to Desktop, on Video Rendering set the file format to Video for Windows and the Compressor to Uncompressed UYVY 422 8bit.
2) Import some small DV clip and place it on the timeline. You should see a
i red line
above it.
3) Now, Render work area. The line above the clip changes to
i green.
4) Now, in the filesystem, locate the generated preview file Adobe Premiere Pro Preview files/project_name.PRV/Rendered -, make a copy of it and place this copy on the timeline. You will see a
i red line
above it.
5) Now, go to Project/Project Settings/VideoRendering and change the File format from Video for Windows to Uncompressed 8-bit(4:2:2 YUV) and confirm. Now you should not see
i any line
above the file copied from the Preview folder.
Does the line behavior changes exactly the same way in your application?

BAM Calculation Group By always grayed out

Trying to figure out why the Group By... button is always grayed out on the Calculation tab in Active Studio? I understand it requires a calculation that performs an aggregation, but even when I do include an aggregation, it remains grayed out. I am trying to do calculations at each level of a hierarchy, but without the Group By, I suspect my calculation will never work properly.

How to group clips?

Seems an easy one, but, how can I group several clips together so they can be handled/moved as one.
A sort of "nest Items" feature from FCP.
Or a baking/grouping sort of action. I know that I can export it and re-import it again as one file, but that is "destructive". I'm looking for an non-destructive way... And faster as well... :-))

As I learn more about the program I keep looking for this elementary feature.
I think this is the concept that they call Timeslices. But what's missing there is the simple ability to nudge them. You can cut copy and paste them, but often you just want to slide it one or more frames in one direction.
Also the selection criteria is kinda wonky. The manual has a lot of key commands, but they don't seem to work the way they're supposed to.

Help: iMovie not saving clips - always trashes clips

Hi all!
OK, here's the scoop...
Bought a new MacBook Pro a few months ago for my daughter (going to college). So, new MacBook, and new iMovie.
She's working on a film project for school. So, she loads up clips and saves the project. NOW, for some reason, every time she opens the project, it says that clips are missing and almost all the clips are in the trash (some stayed put but most are always re-trashed).
She's tried moving them to the clip area, to the timeline, and even started a new project and put them in again from scratch, but everytime she saves and reopens, the clips are in the trash.
I've scanned the forum for help. We've trashed the Preferences files and checked for Quicktime plug-ins (none there). Now I'm at a loss.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

WHERE IS TIME STRETCH, SHORTCUT BAR, GROUP CLIPS???

I can't do my job without 'em.... that's why I got a refund on CS5... PLEASE bring them, AND Hybrid Tool back like in Audition 3.0... I can't figure out why 4 of the most usefull tools from 3.0 were left out of CS5!!!

You could export the group of small videos as DV-AVI, then import this larger clip into your project and apply the time stretch to it.
