GT60 0NC-002 "Windows cannot setup a homegroup on this computer"

Several months ago I purchased a GT60 0NC-002, but I only now have enough time to set it up. This is a brand new computer, out of the box, purchased from a reputable online retailer (Newegg).
After the first start up I installed about 100 WIndows patches, then uninstalled the free Bitdefender trial, Norton Backup and the MS Office 2010 trial. Other than that I have installed NOTHING else, no third party firewall, no AV, no antispyware or any other software.
First I wanted to join the HomeGroup and it wouldn't let me, so I left the HomeGroup on my desktop and other laptop and tried to create a HomeGroup on the MSI, and no matter what I do I keep getting the same pesky message:
WIndows cannot set up a homegroup on this computer.
After days of reading articles, forum postings, PDFs, blogs and miscellaneous "solutions" I am still getting the error. From what I learned, there are several requirements to be able to set up a HomeGroup and the following is what I have already done or checked:
The machine is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64
Required Services are started:
DNS Client
Function Discovery Provider Host
Function Discovery Resource Publication
Peer Networking Grouping
HomeGroup Provider
HomeGroup Listener
SSDP Discovery
UPnP Device Host
IPV6 is enabled
No 3rd party AV or firewall
The machine IS connected to the network via LAN (but I get the same results over WiFi)
Network is set to Home network
I am running on an Administrator account
Time is properly set
SFC/Scannow found NO corrupt files
Deleted the files under:
C:\windows\serviceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking
including idstore.sst, rebooted and tried HomeGroup set up again witn NO results.
Made sure that DisabledComponents = 0 the registry at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters\DisabledComponents
This is my last try before I abandon all attempts to use the HomeGroup altogether, I am wondering if anyone had the same problem with a similar machine or if perhaps the Killer Network software could be interfering.
If it matters:
Core i7 3610QM (2.3 Ghz)
15.6" Display
12 Gb DDR3 1600 Ram
1 Tb Hd 7200 Rpm
Nvidia GeForce GTX 670M
Many thanks in advance.

  • ITunes 7 cannot browse album covers on this computer error and crash

Installed iTunes 7 yesterday, and now every time I try to go to certain pages in the iTunes store, such as movies or tv shows, I get an error saying "iTunes cannot browse album covers on this computer". Then iTunes immediately crashes. Has anyone else had this problem? Any fix??
    Compaq   Windows XP

I have the same issue. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I was on the Cover Flow View and it was working fine. I clicked on the full screen icon and the entire screen went random (meaning totally random pixels of color all over). I pressed the escape key and the normal screen returned, but it only showed a black section where the covers had previously been. I restarted iTunes and it started giving me the same message. I also can see them in the lower left and on the Album View. Just the Cover Flow view doesn't work. I downloaded the latest iTunes today and I keep all of the Windows updates on.

  • Cannot Install Mac OSX on this Computer!! HELPPPP!

Well here is the situation. I have a PowerMac G4 (Digital Audio). i had it upgraded a year ago to a 1.53Ghz G4 Processor, 1.5 GB Ram, I have a 160GB HD, and a 40GB HD. All the firmware is up to date. i went to Install leopard and the OS didn't recognise my system configuration. i called Apple and well all i got was " That I basically made a custom PC and Leopard will not recognise the Hardware and configuration. "Cannot Install Mac OSX on this Computer" was the message I got
So I had to revert Back to Jaguar and I'm hating it. Any help on this one, or should I cut my loses and sell Leopard?

am currious too as i have a g4 dual processor 800 and am wondering if it will install on it. the dp has plenty of hp to run it. if yours is showing as a 1.5 in profiler should install. but one glitch could be many sonnet upgrades do a trade off and a faster processor but they down clock the fsb speed to get it. check and see if fsb is at least 133. i do pc service for a living and love mac for my own use but apple is a bit arrogant on it's software as to install specs and not offering a uninstaller option. on that windows is a lot more friendly and flexable.

  • This disk cannot be used to startup this computer message when I try to install mavericks.  Cant partition my SSD (which is verified) either - help!

    Hi all
I am using Snow Leopard and have just downloaded Mavericks.  I have a 250 gig SSD with no partitions.  When trying to install I get a message saying 'this disk cannot be used to startup this computer" and disk utility has checked my drive and its fine, but I cant partition it either saying 'the partition cannot be resized Try reducing the amount of change in the size of the partition".  I have tried various sizes but nothing works.  Please help!

Well, I'm puzzled by the fact that you have your 750 GB disk highlighted, yet on the right it is showing disk0s2 as having 750 GB with nothing on it although your Macintosh HD appears to be part of that disk0s2. I have no idea what disk0s1, 5, and 6 are or what they contain, but the only thing accessible seems to be your Macintosh HD - does that contain your OS? For comparison, here is a screenshot of mine (2 partitions on my internal hard drive):
The area shaded in blue is the space my OS/apps/etc. occupies.
Unless there is a viable explanation of your disk(s), my suggestion would be to boot into recovery, erase your drive, partition properly, and then reinstall from scratch. Make sure you have a backup first.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on More Info, and check the model identifier against the following, which are the earliest Macs of each type that can run Mountain Lion and Mavericks:
    iMac7,1
    MacBook5,1
    MacBookPro3,1
    MacBookAir2,1
    Macmini3,1
    MacPro3,1
    Xserve3,1
A computer incapable of running Mountain Lion which has a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU and at least 2GB of RAM can run Lion 10.7, which is available from the online Apple Store.

  • Late 2008 mbp - installed new ssd - trying to boot from snow leopard iso on flash drive - says 'cannot install mac os on this computer'

    Hello -
I just installed a new M500 Crucial ssd in my late 2008 mbp - everything was working fine on old hard drive (running snow leopard) but was getting slow and wanted to upgrade - i lost my snow leopard disk when moving from hawaii so i found an iso online - using a flash drive i partitioned the disk and made the bootable image on flash drive - formatted as extended/journaled - switched out the hard drives - plugged in the flash drive - started the comp - held option - install begins to boot - choose language - all is fine - choose english - next step window pops up saying 'cannot install os on this computer' - click on utility but all options are greyed out - disk util is greyed out - only options it gives is to start from backup or restart - real confused here - all help appreciated - thanks in advance and happy new year!

Snow Leopard comes in discs only.  The USB drive may be a counterfeit and/or corrupt.  There are two options for you:
Get replacement original OSX installation disks from Apple customer service.  Have your MBP serial number ready and there is a charge.
Or two, purchase a Snow Leopard disk from the Apple online store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Ciao.

  • TS1843 when at home, I cannot connect to aol from this computer.  other computers have no problem connecting to aol using the same wireless, I was also able to connect to aol while at the apple store using their wireless.  The problem seems specific to my

I cannot access aol from this computer.  all other wedsites are fine, other computers can access aol from same wireless, and I can access aol when using another wireless.
problem is specific to this computer, at home with aol only.

I should have explained further. The game opens in a new window over to the upper left of my screen, leaving the original page underneath. I tried minimizing it so that I could get to my toolbar and did the View > Zoom > Reset. This has no effect. The lower portion of the game is still not showing. Using other browsers the window or frame of the game is much larger, therefore everything shows.

  • OSX cannot be installed on to this computer

My 2007 iMac runs OS10.4.11. I bought a new iBook with OS10.5. When I try to install 10.5 onto the iMac using the accompanying disk, I get a message saying that OSX cannot be installed onto this computer. No more details. Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Ben

Sorry, didn't mean to sound harsh.
Just a standard licensing thing. One machine, one license.
Apple does sell a multi-pack of the OS, iWork and iLife for less than the cost oft he 3 combined (169), or 5 license pack for 229.
Given the OS itself is 129 and ilife/work are 79 each, cheaper to buy the 5 pack than 2 copies of each.

  • Can't set up a Homegroup on this computer, error 0x80630203

Has anyone had this problem? A google search seems to indicate that this has something to do with the "peer name resolution service" failing to start.  The machine that gets this error has two network adaptors, and shares the internet(ICS) with the rest of my home network, it is also an upgrade from Vista Home Premium.
    Jon

I know this is a really old discussion. I thought it might help somebody anyway, so here goes.
Even though I don't use Homegroup myself, I got tired of seeing the Peer Networking errors in the event logs.
It seems that error code 0x80630203 indicates a problem with the file permissions in one or both of the following directories (for Windows 7):
    C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys
I have written a small batch file to automate the commands needed to fix my computer and hopefully someone else's. This file should be run from a command prompt with elevated privileges. Or right click in Explorer and choose "Run As Administrator".
Just copy and paste the following lines into Notepad and save with your choice of filename and the extension .bat
    @rem *************************** Start of Batch File *************************
@rem This batch file will hopefully fix one of the possible problems with Peer Networking
@rem Step 1: stop the services that might be using the files and directories we need to work on
    Net stop p2psvc
    Net stop pnrpsvc
    Net stop p2pimsvc
@rem Step 2: take ownership of the directories
    takeown /f C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking /r /d Y
    takeown /f C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys /r /d Y
@rem Step 3: grant Everyone full access to the files/directories involved
    icacls C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking /t /c /grant Everyone:F
    icacls C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys /t /c /grant Everyone:F
@rem Step 4: start the Peer Networking services
    Net Start p2pimsvc
    Net Start pnrpsvc
    Net Start p2psvc
@rem Step 5: the icacls commands above open a hole in the security of these files/directories
@rem         need to remove Everyone from the ACLs
    icacls C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking /t /c /remove Everyone
    icacls C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys /t /c /remove Everyone
@rem will pause here so I can see if there were any error messages
    pause
rem **************************** End of Batch File *******************
Be sure to run the HomeGroup troubleshooter afterward and let it fix the permissions.
It is also possible that you may have to delete everything in the 2 directories mentioned above. Doing so may (probably will) delete your HomeGroup if you have one.
I hope this helps someone out

  • Cannot install OS X on this computer, huh?

I am trying to upgrade from 10.4.11 to leopard. bought the OS from amazon. want to erase and install. popped in the 1st disc and rebooted. the installer begins to examine my computer and then tells me that i can't install os x on this computer. senseless! i never even get as far as seeing a destination volume. My partition is GUID. I don't have any of those enhancement programs, my ram is fine, volume and permissions are fine. so what is the problem? i am totally flummoxed.
    thoughts? advice? thanks.

    {quote:title=feemur wrote:} senseless{quote}
No, it's not. There are many reasons why it may not be able to do this. If there is something wrong with the drives lens then you will get this error. Also if it detects a problem with the hard drive it will not proceed. Try using an ext drive or another Mac in target disc mode. If you live by a Apple store I would just bring it there. Also its been reported that Amazon shipped some defective discs. Contact them for a replacement. Many reasons why you may not be finding any joy with your disc

  • Windows XP Setup Issues with MS-6368

    Hi,
    Today I purchased a new MSI-6368 motherboard.
I decided to format my hard drive and start with a fresh install of Windows XP (something I've done dozens of times with many computers). The only thing I have replaced is the motherboard.
The problem is, the system shuts down on its own everytime I run the Windows XP setup.
The Windows XP Setup will spend a few minutes copying its necessary files to the hard drive. After that, it brings up a screen that tells me to hit ENTER to install, or R if I am doing a System Recovery. That screen stays up for about 3 seconds, then the entire system shuts down... even if I choose an option fast enough.
I can do anything else with the computer without a problem. I did a full surface scan of my hard disk with Scandisk (which took well over an hour) with no problem. Its just the Windows XP Setup that shuts down the computer.
Everything is up and running properly (fans, hard drives, disk drives, etc.) and everything else runs fine.
I've tried changing everything I could think of in the BIOS (and even flashed the BIOS to the newest version), but nothing has made any difference.
I know this may seem like a difficult problem, but I would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I've got the same board with no problems installing Windows XP, the only problem I have with the board is the very bad onboard video. I would check to make shure you have your BIOS options set correctly and your jumpers are set correctly on all of your drives.

  • Cannot setup work email using SSL on non standard port

    All,
I've been trying now for a few hours to setup a corporate email account.  I've tried via the curve and via the bb internet service but in both cases since the service cannot detect the settings since a non standard port is in use I cannot use the the service and am considering returning the device to go with another easier to use device.  I love the hardware design but if I cannot setup my corporate email this is no good to me.  I'd appreciate any tips anyone has.
    Thanks,

  • Is Windows 7 64-bit Compatible with This iMac late 2013 ?

Is Windows 7 64-bit compatible with this computer?
    Hardware and software:
    • Late 2013 iMac 27", 3.5 GHz I7, 32 GB memory, 1 TB hard drive Flash
    * 4GB Graphic Card
    • Mac OS 10.9.1
    • USB thumb drive 2.0 16GB
    • Boot Camp Assistant 5.1.0
    • Windows 7 64-bit install disk iso image
    Install steps:
    1. Use Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows 7 install (from iso image) and Apple Support Software (creates WININSTALL USB drive)
    2. Use Boot Camp Assistant to create Equal partition (500GB) on iMac internal drive and start Windows install
    3. Complete initial install steps until given option to select install partition
    4. Select 500 GB partition. Error message that partition is not formatted correctly. Use Advance Options to format (presumably to NTFS)
    5. Select 500 GB partition again and click "Next"
    6. Get error message "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information."
    7. Install quits at this point
I'm wondering if Windows 7 and/or Boot Camp is compatible with this iMac. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Many thanks.

Hi, Indeed. I am selecting the Bootcamp partition, and If I do Format, It informs me that all we be deleted, ok fair enough. then I can click the NEXT button, but I got then a msg stating :
Setup was u nable to create a new system partion or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup Log Files for more informations.
I have not more option here, I can delete, then create a new one with same size then format again, but same message at the end. this is my issue.
    A guy done a Youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vD7dbSl9-b8
I am all ok up to 5min 50 on the video. Then My issue is what he has....
However, when he format the partition he does not have my error msg stating Setup was unable to create. etc...
    This is my issue.
