GUI sending data to C program

Hi
I am pretty comfortable making a Swing GUI...but i was told today by my mentor that he wants the data ( that user puts in Text fields and etc) to be sent to a c program. so JAVA GUI is just there for the user...all the back ground work is done by a C program....is this doable? and how? lets say i extract a String from a JtextField. How do i go about sending that string to the C program.

alright bharat_java!
this is how i would do it.
create the front end swing gui with the text fields and create the c program so that it takes a parameter(s), which it takes as a pointer in the main function brackets. The c program would be a stand alone program not exeuted by the user but by the java swing gui.
On the gui create a jbutton with an actionlistener added to it.
When the user clickes the button in the actionlistener it would get the text from the texfield and create a string which contains the directory path of the c program exe and add the string at the end.
if the c program is in the same directory as the java class file then i would assume (if someone would like to correct me) just add the c program name exe and the string parameter at the end or statically add a final string of the path of the exe from c:
windows example
c:\myprograms\prog.exe param1 param2 param3
you have can as many parameters for your c program in string form provided that your c program takes the strings in order and knows which is which.
to execute the c program i think you would need to execute an external process using java. The class to use is "Runtime.exec". it creates a process and returns a "Process" class from which you can get various info about the process. i don't know how to use the class exactly but do a google search and you will find something.
i would assume you would need to do som form of process management in your java program like check if the process has crashed and report it and ensure that the java program is running even if the process has crashed. if the process crashes then your java program will be waiting for the process to finish. it can crash your computer if you're not careful!
a little info about creating and managing a process :
in linux c programming you would 'fork()' a process and 'exec()' it with a program or command and it would run it and you would have to wait in your program until the process finished using wait or execute it as a background process so you could execute more commands while it the process is running in the background. every process has a PID process ID which uniquely identifies each process. using the PID you can find a process or wait for a process using the PID.
i hope i haven't gone over the top and that there's enough for you to understand how to do it.

  • Retrieving and Sending data from external programs

    I am currently looking at a project but do not know how to start tackling the problem.
    I have a couple of similar programs written in different languages (not JAVA) that I do not have access to the source code.
    I need to enter data into fields in a new JSP page and paste the same data into their corresponding fields in the programs that I do not have access to their source codes.
    I considered using coordinates but it may have major maintainence problems in the future.
    Any help will be much appreciated.

    hi,
    Did you try java native methods. I think this might help you if not I am sorri

  • How can I allow a sub-vi to run independent of the main program once it has been called while still sending data to the sub-vi

    I have a main program where I call a sub-vi. In this sub-vi, there is a while loop that is used to wait for commands in the sub-vi. While the while loop is running, I cannot continue with normal operation of the main program. I would like get the sub-vi to run independently once it has been called, but not hold up the main program. As well, I need to still be able to send data to the sub-vi

    One way is to use VI Server, which has been mentioned by others. This will allow you to start another VI (by name) and run it entirely independently of the calling VI. This is a good way to start various independent VIs from a main menu, for example. None of the VIs thus called need have any connection to the others.
    Another way it to have the SubVI in a separate while loop on the calling VI's BD. Then, use a local var to start this sub VI from the main loop. The calling VI sets a local START bit and continues running. The sub VI's while loop watches for this START bit to go true, and then runs the Sub VI. The advantage here is that one can more easily pass arguments to the SubVI when it is started, using local vars, which are preferable to globals. Once the Su
    bVI is running, however, you must use a global Stop Bit, set in the calling VI, to stop it when the calling VI exits, or the calling VI will hang up, waiting for the Sub VI to close and exit its while loop.
    If you need an example of this, email me. ([email protected]). I can also recommend Gary W. Johnson's excellent book which discusses this. ("LabVIEW Graphical Programming", 2nd Ed).
    Note: Where possible, I try to call a subvi from within the main VI, wait till it is done, then continue. It avoids the use of locals & globals, and results in cleaner code, with fewer "race" conditions. However, the main VI stops until the subVI is done, hence one should make the subVI modal.

  • New printer prints fine from web, gets stuck sending data from all Adobe CS2 programs

    I'm trying to print envelopes on a Lexmark x5650 I just bought. Things can print just fine from all sources but as soon as I try to print from InDesign CS2 the print manager just shows "sending data" and doesn't do anything else. In fact, the same thing happens from all Adobe programs. If I pause the job and start it again then it gets stuck "opening printer connection". I deleted all my other printers so there weren't any other print jobs anywhere else. Help me please!
    Side note, when I reinstall the printer the help assistant it tells me at one point that there are print jobs running and I have to cancel them to fnish the install. For the life of me I cannot find this print job, it's no where to be seen in the system preferences printer section.

    If you did not, then that's the reason it isn't working. Do it. Make sure that the specific printer is selected in Page Setup and then check the Printer Features under the Printer button.
    Ignore the dire warnings that pop-up when you click those buttons.
    It should not be necessary to go to PDF first.

    I increased logging in the NWA (Configuration -> Log Configuration) - and increased the some things here to log ALL. So that from the NWA (Monitoring -> Logs and Traces) I see a little more information (but does not follow that with which the user is a problem).<br>
    <br>
    Here are some interesting logs ...<br>
    I was most rash or irritation of those that say about the lack of credentials u2013 I must use Viusal Administrator and set good service ...<br>
    <br>
    What do I have done:<br>
    In the Visual Administrator -> Cluster -> Server -> Services -> SLD Data Supplier<br>
    I have set in the HTTP Settings tab the host and port SLD, the user name and password is also entered as it is in the SLD. To be sure, already have set for the user entered here such roles as:<br>
    SAP_SLD_ADMINISTRATOR<br>
    SAP_SLD_CONFIGURATOR<br>
    SAP_SLD_DEVELOPER<br>
    SAP_SLD_GUEST<br>
    SAP_SLD_ORGANIZER<br>
    Maybe we are talking in this place about a different user?<br>
    <br>
    Similarly, when it comes to tab CIM Client Generation Settings - here's all the same thing done. CIMClient test shows that everything is OK.<br>
    When I click the button: This trigger the transfer of data to the SLD gets the message that everything was shipped correctly. Indeed, I received an instance of JAVA in SLD<br>
    Also clicked on this icon: Assign application roles to user group - got information that everything is attached properly.<br>
    <br>
    By ABAP side, the connections: INTEGRATION_DIRECTORY_HMI, SAPSLDAPI, LCRSAPRFC, AI_RUNTIME_JCOSERVER and AI_DIRECTORY_JCOSERVER work correctly, ie I can perform the test - which means that programs ID are properly positioned in JCO Provider in VA.<br>
    <br>
    Puzzling is this message:<br>
    The SLD data is inconsistent.<br>
    <br>
    Strange also that the message (from the ABAP everything is available in SMGW no errors):<br>
    Connect to SAP gateway failed<br>
    <br>
    And what is this error:<br>

  • Sending data to xport doesn't work correctly

    Dear programmers,
    For my thesis I have to send data from a computer to a microcontroller trough TCP/IP. So I've written a program in java dat sends the data, but it goes wrong. This is my code:
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    public class Connection {
         private Socket socket = null;
        private PrintWriter output = null;
        private BufferedReader input = null;
        private BufferedReader stdIn = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));;
         public boolean createConnection(String ip, int port) {
            boolean connect = false;
            try {
                socket = new Socket(ip, port);                                                            // Maakt socket aan naar gegeven poort en ip
                output = new PrintWriter(socket.getOutputStream(), true);                         // Output naar de server
                input = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(socket.getInputStream()));     // Ontvangen gegevens van server
                connect = true;
            } catch (UnknownHostException e) {
                connect = false;
                 System.err.println("Kan geen verbinding maken naar ip-adres: " + ip);
                System.exit(1);
            } catch (IOException e) {
                 connect = false;
                System.err.println("Kan geen input/output verkrijgen van ip-adres: " + ip);
                System.exit(1);
            return connect;
         public boolean sendMessage(String message) {
              output.println(message);
              output.println("\r\n")
              return true;
         public String receiveMessage() {
              String message = null;
              try {
                   message = input.readLine();
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              if(message.equalsIgnoreCase("HTTP/1.1 0 ERROR")) {
                   message = "#ERROR#";
              return message;
         public boolean getStatus() {
              if(socket.isConnected()) {
                   return true;
              else {
                   return false;
         public void closeConnection() {
              try {
                   output.close();
                   input.close();
                   stdIn.close();
                   socket.close();
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
    }The first time I send something it goes correctly, but when I try to send the second data it goes wrong.
    So as example I send 100 times the number 512 to the xport.
    1st time: 512
    2nd time: 5
    3th time: 52
    4th time: 5125
    So only the first time it sends the data correctly. It's my program and not the xport because trough hyperterminal the data is sended correctly. I hope you guys can help me.

    Okay, thanks for your reaction. Now I changed my Connection.java code into:
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    public class Connection {
         private Socket socket = null;
        private BufferedOutputStream ostream = null;
        private BufferedInputStream istream = null;
         public boolean createConnection(String ip, int port) {
            boolean connect = false;
            try {
                socket = new Socket(ip, port);
                ostream = new BufferedOutputStream(socket.getOutputStream());
                istream = new BufferedInputStream(socket.getInputStream());
                connect = true;
            } catch (UnknownHostException e) {
                connect = false;
                 System.err.println("Kan geen verbinding maken naar ip-adres: " + ip);
                System.exit(1);
            } catch (IOException e) {
                 connect = false;
                System.err.println("Kan geen input/output verkrijgen van ip-adres: " + ip);
                System.exit(1);
            return connect;
         public boolean sendMessage(String message) {
              byte[] buffer = new byte[10];
              try {
                   buffer = message.getBytes();
                   ostream.write(buffer, 0, message.length());
                   ostream.flush();
              catch(Exception e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              return true;
         public String receiveMessage() {
              String message = null;
              byte[] readBuffer = new byte[40];
              try {
                   int message_int = istream.read(readBuffer, 0, 40);
                 message = new String(readBuffer, 0, message_int);
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              if(message.equalsIgnoreCase("HTTP/1.1 0 ERROR")) {
                   message = "#ERROR#";
              return message;
         public boolean getStatus() {
              if(socket.isConnected()) {
                   return true;
              else {
                   return false;
         public void closeConnection() {
              try {
                   ostream.close();
                   istream.close();
                   socket.close();
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
    }Do you think this was the problem? Maybe it was. Let's hope so. I will let you know something when I tested it tomorrow in school.

    Error sending data (4)
    Job finished
    one more clarity i required
    this report should goes to 4 SAP users . how can i configure this report to 4 sapusers
    kindly suggest me

    > Step 001 started (program GP4CF9U420G825I4P7DU8XY49WH, variant CUSTOMEROUTSTD, user ID S2K_BASIS)

    I'd check SCOT/SOST for any errors. Also check the syslog (SM21).
    > this report should goes to 4 SAP users . how can i configure this report to 4 sapusers
    Create a distribution list (SAPoffice-Inbox - environment - distribution list) and enter that as addresse for the output.

  • Error when sending data from Cube to ODS

    HI,
    I am extracting data from 2lis_02_itm & I stored the data in 0pur_o01(ODS) tha data is fine in ODS but when I am trying to send data from ODS to Cube 0pur_c07 it is giving the above error
    InfoSource 80PUR_O01 is not defined in the source system
    Errors in source system
    InfoSource 80PUR_O01 is not defined in the source system.
    Message no. R3005
    Diagnosis
    The InfoSource 80PUR_O01 specified in the data request, is not defined in the source system.
    System response
    The data transfer is terminated.
    Procedure
    In the Administrator Workbench of the Business Information Warehouse, update the metadata for this source system, and delete the InfoPackages belonging to InfoSources that no longer existing
    Thanks
    Priya

    Hi A Priya
    First check if infosource 80PUR_O01 is present in datasource list of your BW system. Check this in RSA1-> Infosources-> here do Settings -> display generated objects and then do search on 80PUR_O01.
    if it not present there go to ODS 0PUR_O01-> right click
    -> generate export datasource.
    If it is present there then replicate the datasource by right click on transfer rules and then go to SE38-> Enter program name as RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL -> Enter Infosource name as 80PUR_O01 and BW System as source system-> Execute. This will activate the transfer rules.
    Then try reloading from ODS to cube

  • Problem in sending data to parallel port

    Hello,
    I can open a parallel port (LPT1) using java comm api i,e javax.comm.
    but problem in sending data to parallel port,
    I choose the appropriate port(LPT1), it is in bi-directional mode according to BIOS configuration.
    but according to the java program the mode is SSP.
    when i write data to parallel port the volt-meter give a reading of high state for all data pin (pin1 to 9) i,e the parallel port doesnot change state. I am using windows XP.
    What is the solution?

    try it on Open Solaris 10 or Linux platform.
    also just try using the new FileWriter("LPT1").write("Hello");
    on windows platform

  • I want to send data from One server to another

    Hi all,
    My requirement to send data from one server's  application server path(data in one directory in Al11 of the source server) to another server's application server(TO another directory in Al11 transaction of the destination server).
    What are all the ways to achieve this task.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Raja

    While the FTP option mentioned above is workable, both servers should have some form of FTP service running with reference to this solution.
    I suggest two more options, just to give you an idea. I am not getting into details as it is important to get the big picture first before working on details.
    1: Through RFC destinations:
    You can define two RFc destinations, each pointing to the specific application server. Assuming the server names are SOURCE and TARGET, you can have two RFC destinations where you differentiate the servers by specifying the host name or IP address.
    Once the destinations are defined, you need to develop two RFC enabled function module, one will be used to read the file and return it in form of internal table. The other will be get the internal table as input and should save it on server (using abap commands open dataset etc.)
    Now you can have an ABAP program where you first call the function which is reading the file. In call function you mention the RFC destination of source server.
    Once the file is read, you than call the second function module with destination to target server and save the internal table to a file.
    2: Through Background job programming
    While scheduling a background job, you can specify target system which forces the background job to run on that target application server. The basic idea here is to have two abap programs, one would be used to read file and export it to database table like INDX (we can call it ZPRG1), the other will import from the table INDX and write it as a file (we can call it ZPRG2).
    Now you can define a job through SM36, using ZPRG1 as program, and target system as the first application server. This job you can schedule to run periodically.
    Also define a second job through SM36, using ZPRG2 as program and target system as the second application server. For this job, the starting condition you can put as ‘After completion of job1’.
    Another method one can be by using FMs used in tcode SM49 but for that I think your sysadmin might have to create a batch file/script first. Which you can later call from ABAP.
    Cheers.

  • Using internal table data in difrent programs

    hi ..
    I am running a program that does many things and I need to use the data in one of the internal tables in another program.
    You may say why?
    Because I need to make sure that the first program runs successfully then I need to generate a report with that data in separate program.
    Thanks

    Hi Mohammed
    Another approach for the solution:
    1. Which John has mentioned in his first post. You can use the ABAP memory. For this inspect "IMPORT ... TO MEMORY ID ..."/"EXPORT ... FROM MEMORY ID ..." statements.
    2. Fill a range object and send it as the select-option at the interface of the second report using SUBMIT (which John also mentioned).
    3. May be you can use shared data areas.

  • How to change the attributes of GUI CONTROLS in my own program.

    hi all,
    i just want to change the attributes of GUI CONTROLS in my own program.
    for example `
    How to set an ICON on my GUI BUTTON in the program?
    so what's the mapping between CONTROL in the SCREEN PAINTER and variable in the program?

    Hi Chao Liu,
    Ya , u first find out the PF-STATUS of the screen and goto that status and now u can modify the ICON u want .
    Finding the GUI status of the screen
    Goto that  TRANSACTION CODE or SCREEN
    On the Standard Menu bar Goto ( Menu path) System --> Status
    Now u get a pop-up System :status in that in SAP Data block u can find GUI Status. Now Double Click on that Status. It takes u to the Status of that screen.
    Now click on the Display --> Change Button on the application tool bar.
    If it is a standard GUI-status then it asks for the ACCESS KEY.
    if it is a custom defined GUI Status  then u can change the status .

  • How to send data to RFC Destination(RFC SENDER Adapter)

    Hi ,
    Scenario:  R/3 Backendà RFC Sender Adapterà XIàsome other system.
    I have configured the RFC destination (of the type TCP/IP) at R/3 System and have registered the Program ID (specified in the RFC destination) in the XI server and using it in the configuration parameters of the RFC Sender Adapter.
    Problem: I do not know how I can send data to the RFC destination. (Should I use a report program/ ABAP Function Module?) Can anybody provide me with a sample code of Report Program/Function module (whichever is required), how to send data to the RFC Destination, so that it may be picked up by my RFC Sender Adapter.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Siva Maranani

    I have one query for you that
    I am trying to develop a scenario in SAP XI
    SAP R/3 ( RFC function module) sends a synchronous request to the XI and SAP XI will send this request to a third party web application using HTTP receiver adapter.
    I am able to send the data/message and it is successfully received at the third party web application.
    But I am facing one issue that I am unable to receive any message/data in my RFC module back.i have seen in sxmb_moni that the two messages are displayed in successfuly processed but in SAP R/3 side nothing get happedned
    Can you tell me how to use some waiting mechanism in function module to wait for the response from SAP XI.

  • Multipe Sender RFC using same Program ID

    Hi all,
    I have RFC>XI>HTTP scenario. All confiruation has been done in R/3 and XI has ben done correctly.
    Is it possible to use the same TCP/IP port Program ID created in SM59 (in R/3) for sending different RFC messages to XI. Meaning, in different XI RFC sender adapter communication channels, can I use the same Program ID.
    When I tried, it work for one RFC, but when multiple RFC sender adapter uses same program ID..RFC program errors out in R/3 itself with error message - Commit fault: com.sap.aii.af.rfc.afcommunication.RfcChannelMismatchExcept.
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Karthik

    Karthik,
    It is possible to send different messages from R3 to XI that use the one RFC destination and Program ID (in R/3) and the one Communication channel (in XI)
    Assume that interfaces AAA and BBB have different structures
    <u><b>SAP R/3</b></u>
    <b>For interface AAA</b>
    (1)     Execute ABAP Z_AAA which
    (2)     Populates the internal table ITAB_AAA with structure ZST_AAA
    (3)     Calls the remote enabled function ZFN_AAA
    (4)     Passes the interface data in the tables statement
    CALL FUNCTION 'ZFN_AAA' DESTINATION RFCCOMMON
             EXPORTING
                  … … …         = … … …
             IMPORTING
                  … … …         = … … …
             TABLES
                  AAA           = ITAB_AAA.
    <b>For interface BBB</b>
    (1)     Eexecute ABAP Z_BBB which
    (2)     Populates the internal table ITAB_BBB with structure ZST_BBB
    (3)     Calls the remote enabled function ZFN_BBB
    (4)     Passes the interface data in the tables statement
    CALL FUNCTION 'ZFN_BBB' DESTINATION RFCCOMMON
             EXPORTING
                  … … …         = … … …
             IMPORTING
                  … … …         = … … …
             TABLES
                  BBB           = ITAB_BBB.
    Each function is called with the same destination RFCCOMMON
    In SM59 point the RFC destination RFCCOMMON to your XI environment and provide a program id, for example ID_COMMON
    <i><b>XI</b></i>
    <b>(1) Configure the sender RFC Communication Channel</b> for example CC_COMMON and enter your SAP R/3 server parameters to include the program id ID_COMMON
    <b>(2) Configure the Receiver Determinations</b> as follows
    For interface AAA
    Sender Service     Enter your SAP R3 Business System for example R3PROD Interface          ZFN_AAA (this is the SAP R/3 remote function)
    Namespace          urn:sap-com:document:sap:rfc:functions
    Configured Receivers
    Service               Integration Process AAA
    For interface BBB
    Sender Service     Enter your SAP R3 Business System for example R3PROD
    Interface          ZFN_BBB (this is the SAP R/3 remote function)
    Namespace          urn:sap-com:document:sap:rfc:functions
    Configured Receivers
    Service               Integration Process BBB
    <b>(3) Configure the Sender Agreement</b> as follows
    For interface AAA
    Sender Service     R3PROD
