Summary: Follow this tutorial to learn how to import and edit MXF files in Final Cut Pro by converting MTS to FCP native format.
If you have a Panasonic P2, Canon XF or Sony XDCAM series camcorder,

Final Cut Pro 6/7 or FCP X.
First of all, downloading the App- Brorsoft MXF Converter for Mac
Overall, the program is a professional yet easy-to-use MXF Converter
on Mac (Mavericks included) which can not only convert XF100, Canon
C300, XF105 and XF305, Panasonic P2 recorded MXF files, but also provide
simple video editing functions for you. The MXF to FCP Converter not
only can convert MXF to ProRes for FCP, but also can transcode MXF
videos for editing in Avid MC, Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie, FCE, etc.
Just download it and follow the tutorial below to get the work done.
Transcoding (P2) MXF files to ProRes for Final Cut Pro 6/7/X
1. Import MXF files to the converter
Launch the best MXF to FCP Converter, and then click the “add files” button to browse and import MXF videos from your camcorder or hard drive.
2. Select FCP editable format
Click the Format bar, and move mouse cursor to choose “Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)” as output format.
Tips:
a. Settings- click to set video
resolution(1920×1080/1440×1080/1280×720/720×480), bitrate (from 1Mbps to
20Mbps), frame rate (24p/30p)
b. Editor (next to “Add” icon)- click to set deinterlace, trim, crop, add effect, attach subtitles, etc
3. Start transcoding MXF video to FCP
Click “Convert” button to start converting MXF files to Apple ProRes
MOV for FCP 6/7/X under Mac OS. Once the MXF to ProRes 422 conversion
is done, you can transfer MXF footage into Final Cut Pro (X) for editing
smoothly on Mac with ease.

Final Cut Pro X crashes on start
I've been having an issue this morning. Final Cut crashes as soon as it starts.
I was going to delete it and install fresh, however, it won't let me. Keeps saying the file is locked, even though it isn't. I've tried a few apps that are supposed to remove programs that won't easily deleted, but that doesn't work.

Exporting From Final Cut Pro 5.0

I need to export my work from Final Cut Pro 5.0 to a Quicktime Movie with the following settings -
Compression: H.264
Frame Rate: 15fps
Bit Rate: 200k

If you want full resolution 640 x 480 then 200Kbps isn't going to look very good. As a guide you can note that Apple is using about 600Kbps to encode the iTunes video content and that has a resolution of only 320 x 240. However, since you're only using a frame rate of 15fps you should be able to produce good looking content at just over 1Mbps for 640 x 480.
Of course, it does depend upon the nature of your source video (the subject). Simple "talking head" shots could go lower, while rapid action material might need considerably more than 1Mbps (along with a higher frame rate). -

VIDEO_TS content into Final Cut Pro HD?
Is there a way I can get content from a DVD's VIDEO_TS folder into Final Cut Pro HD?
I gave some footage to a person for editing purposes and I'm not very satisfied with the results. The image quality isn't the greatest and I'd like to add some effects to the video by importing the content into Final Cut Pro.
I would then like to re-encode the video with Compressor's High Quality Encode option with the hopes of improving the video's quality.
Is this possible and can someone please guide me on how to accomplish this task.
Thanks in AdvanceIf you're saying that you gave someone video footage (DV perhaps) they cut it and gave you a DVD, you're not going to get better quality by taking that DVD footage into FCP. You'll be compressing something that's already been compressed once and it's going to get worse everytime you do it.
You would be far better off getting the original footage and perhaps the project file that the editor created and recutting that way. Or even better, get the editor to make the changes you want and, if there were compression problems, do it again using better settings.
That being said, you can do what you want but you'll have to use software to demux the files... Mac the Ripper, etc. Do a search here for more info.

Hello All, I am setting up an Xsan system to be used for Final Cut Pro HD editing. I have 2 full XRAIDs using 400 gb disks. I will have 2 PowerMac G5 editing stations. All connected together using a SanBox 5200 switch and a gigabit ethernet switch for the network.
I would like some feedback on RAID setup.
I plan on creating a 2 disk Metadata array using RAID 0, the remaining 4 disks on the controller ( one hot spare) will be used as an ingestion area for HD video data. I am planning on setting this up as RAID 0 as well. My thinking here is that I dont need the redundancy in the Ingestion volume because we will keep the original HD tapes that the data was ingested from. The hot spare will provide a very small amount of protection to the 2 RAID 0 arrays on this controller. On the other side of the XRAID I will build a 6 disk RAID 5 array for the production files. The other XRAID will be setup as 2 additional 6 disk RAID 5 production arrays. All of the production arrays will be added to a storage pool and a volume created from the pool.
Is this the preffered method? what would you do or have done? Any drawbacks to the method I described. Does a volume built from RAID 5 arrays and hosted on 3 controllers have enough speed for HD editing? Any experiences shared is helpful info.

First, I'd recommend you spend the $15 and pick up "The Xsan Quick-Reference Guide" by PeachPit press. It goes into a fair bit of detail on recommended configurations.
Second, I'm going to assume you meant a 2-disk RAID 1 for metadata. RAID 0 would be useless for this purpose -- Metadata isn't high-bandwidth, and you NEED protection from it. Lose your metadata volume, lose your SAN. It's that simple. So use a RAID 1 mirror for it.
Also, for ingest, I'd recommend RAID 5. RAID 5 is the same speed as RAID 0, and it has protection.
Note that a hot spare is absolutely worthless when you're dealing with RAID 0. It will give you no protection -- when a disk in RAID 0 fails, the game is over. No restoration is possible on the hot spare -- there is no parity data that can be used to reconstruct the data.
So I'd do a 2-disk RAID 1 for metadata, and either 4 or 5 disks RAID 5 for ingest (depending on if you want a hot spare). Note, that you will not be able to ingest uncompressed HD onto this volume -- the bandwidth required is way too high. You could do DVCPRO-HD, perhaps.
If you set up 3 controllers as "6-disk RAID 5 + hot spare," your available bandwidth should be in the 200-240 MB/sec range, which is sufficient for HD editing. It will only be sufficient for one user at a time, of course, and you'd want to avoid having someone do big file copies on the SAN while the editing is taking place. -
Can Final cut pro 7 and Final cut X live together
I just spoke to one of my friends who installed Final cut pro X and told me that it basically crushed his version of 7. My idea here was to install final cut X to start learning the new workflow and keep my version of Final cut 7 for compatibility issues. Question is can these two live together on the same machine?
Please note my friend is the type of guy that if he does not see the software icon in the dock it basically does not exist.

Final Cut Pro Book which takes FCP to the "Next Level"
I am reasonably new to FCP.
I have read the book Final Cut Pro: Visual QuickPro Guide by Lisa Brenneis from cover to cover.
Let me say that I am no expert, far far from it! but I would like to have a book that takes FCP to the next step. A book that gives info on "The Power" of FCP and how to create novel and interesting things.
Can anyone recommend a book?

Editing HDV in Final Cut Pro 6...
Greetings fellow forum friends
I work in a film company. We are currently on a preproductional stage, aiming for a feature lenght high def dv film. I am still quite new to the HD scene so I was wondering if anyone with experience could guide me through it.
To begin with, can I use HDV in Final Cut Pro 6, with a Macbook Pro 2.16 (duo core) and 2GB RAM?

- FelexionI'm with Jerry and the rest...don't cripple your production by using the VERY CONSUMER AVCHD format. Do yourself a favor and get an HVX-200 and shoot proper HD. You won't be able to work with AVCHD in the native format anyway, you'll need to transcode it to Apple Intermediate Codec or ProRes. And all the AVCHD cameras are really on the small handycam consumer level.
WOrk at a film company...get a decent camera.

I have Final Cut Pro X (10.0.9) and would like to change my project settings but I am having trouble finding the 'Modify Settings button.' Where exactly is it located? You have to choose – one settigf or another.
The thing is.your HD clips will look better in an SD project than your SD clips will in an HD project.
WIthout knowing much more about your project and the kind of content, it's really hard to be specific. But generally I'd let my project settings be guided by what fraction of my timeline will be made up of HD clips and how much SD clips. If it's 75% HD, I'd probably do an HD project…and so on,

What's so good about Final Cut Pro?
Hi everyone, I am totally new to Macs, switching over from the PC. And so far, I have to say that I honestly enjoy the Macs a lot more than the PC's. With that being said, my wife's friend was telling us that we should invest in Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. The problem is we know nothing about the two programs other than photoshop is obviously working with photos and final Cut has something to do with movies.
So can someone please tell us whats so good about these two programs. And if we were to buy them, is there some sites that offer good tutorials to learn how to operate each of them?A quick tour of Final Cut Pro can be found here:

Codec error from photoshop to final cut pro sequence
I'm trying to render a video, but i get the error "codec error"
The clips are actually still layers coming from photoshop cs2.
I set up the photoshop document with the preset "ntsc dv 720x480 with guides"
In final cut pro, my sequence settings are: ntsc dv (3:2), compressor settings h.264

I am thing of using Final Cut Pro but when I try and download I get the message “Your computer’s video card does not meet the minimum system requirements.” Can I do anything about this? I am using a Mac Pro early 2008 with Yosemite 10.10.2. My current graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB.

It is just as the message says. Your video card is not compatible.
You can add a compatible graphics card and use FCP X with your mac. I can't suggest which one, but maybe other people on this forum can guide.
And you may also get good suggestions in the Mac Pro forum.
