Gutenprint with HP 2100--hangs up between print jobs. Help?

Working on hooking up HP Lazer Printer 2100 with OS 10.9.1
Have successfully installed Gutenprint 5.2.9 and usbtb
USB hookup to computer (Mac Pro).
Printer working but only one job at a time. After each print job, the queue hangs up (saying printer not responding). If I click the pause button and then the go button again, printer prints the next job fine.
I am no expert on this sort of thing and am already giving myself some serious high fives for having gotton this far after everyone told me to simply ditch my old 2100 and buy a new lazer. So now if I can work around this problem, I think I'm good to go.
Anyone with suggestions?

Hi,
I got an HP2100 for ages now. My wife can print only sometimes with 10.4 with generic drivers and I can print better with 10.5. Just today the printer did not want to talk to me anymore and the only way to connect was with Appletalk enabled over ethernet cable. That works usually very reliably for me.
Going over airport to the printer (through the wireless router) is the flakiest. I know this sounds bad but once it works it usually works.
Regarding your specific issue: One thing that helps is to hold down the little button on the control panel and then the bigger one in the front for a while. When released, the printer will print a Jetdirect Configuration page and a self test configuration page. That will tell you a lot.
Hope you find a bit of usefulness in my response.

  • How to get laserjet to pause between print jobs

I just reinstalled my OS (Win7) over the weekend, and the laserjet P1102w is working fine, but it is doing one thing differently than before. For as long as I can remember (even going back to an earlier laserjet 1018), I could send 2-3 print jobs to the printer. When the first was done,  the printer would pause for a few seconds, and only then, start pushing out the pages of the second print job (I'd use that pause to alert me to go to the printer and scoop up all the pages of that first job).
    Now, it isn't doing that.
Is there a setting to check? Honestly I'm not sure what to look for, but I didn't see anything in Windows' printer preferences.

    Hi paulri,
Sorry that I had misread your post. The pausing between print jobs, was most likely a function of a communication lag between the printer and the computer, and not a feature of the printer or the software. This option is not available with the Operating Systems print spooler.
As a workaround, I would just print one document at a time, and wait for it to finish printing, before printing the next document.
For future reference, just in case you may need it, here is your printer's user guide.
Thank you for posting, and have a nice day!

  • Print job from Windows hangs in iMac print queue - help please!!!

I have a new iMac core duo and am trying to print to my Epson Stylus CX4600 from Windows. Bonjour sees the printer and sets it up, the print job seems to go just fine, but when I check my G5 (the Epson is connected to the G5) I see the job stopped. If I try to start the job, nothing happens... the only way to clear the Q is to delete the job.
I have all the latest drivers, and have tried bonjour both with generic postscript and with the Epson driver - no luck.

  • HP Laserjet P1006 suddenly quit printing wirelessly - in between print jobs. Instantly.

    Hi -
I used to be able to print wirelessly from my macbook Pro (OSX 10.8.3) to my Laserjet P1006.
I can still print if I plug in via USB, but as soon as I unplug, the "print and scan" window says my printer is offline.
I was inbetween print jobs when suddenly the printer stopped allowing my computer to print wirelessly.  There was nothing I could see that would have set it off.
I have tried shutting everything down (computer and printer, even wireless router)  and turning back on.
I have tried telling computer not to remember printer... then connecting again with USB to get it to recognize as new.  That didn't work.
I tried to follow instructions for MAC and for this specific printer from a post someone else made, but the instructions said to hit utility from the "Open Print Queue" window and I didn't have that option.  It also said to look for Bonjour, I didnt' have that option.
    I'm frazzled.
How can I get my wireless connection back?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Teh Laserjet P1006 is a USB only printer and does not provide any wireless connection:

May you connected the pritner to a print server (a USB port of a router, etc.) in the past? yje specific model does not support any connection without using a USB.
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos thumb up in the post.

  • HT3669 Why must I Cycle Printer Power and RECONNECT the USB Cable between Print Jobs? [ hp LJ 3030 PCL 4/5 ]

Until recently, I was able to Print across my LAN.  Now I can only print (1) job at a time through the USB interface on my MacBook Air w/ OS X 10.8.4
I don't do a LOT of printing, so it could have started in a prior update.

USB interface? Are you using one of those USB to parallel adapter cables?
They don't allow two-way comm - which is how the printer tells the computer "done with this page."
You can try this special USB driver that deals with this problem:
    http://buymelunch.org/printing/usbtb/
Any reason you stopped using network printing?

  • P3005 prints two letters top left before print job- Help Pls.

It just started doing it and it doesn't happen all the time either. It's very frustrating when I am printing cheques and the first cheque gets used with just two letters in the top left and then the actual print job starts with the second cheque.
I've tried uninstalling the printer and re-installing it but that doesn't help. It's not consistant either.
It also has started happening on another co-workers printer a HP 4250. These printers are not networked and are hooked up to our PC's (Windows XP).
I am the tech guy for our hotel but not a professional and I can't figure it out. No settings have been changed.

You can have the msgsend calss as an utility class
with out a main method. Change the main method to
    some other name like sendMessage.
import that class in your servlet email2.
If msgsend is in a package, you can do import somepackage.msgsend
    msgsend emailMes =new msgsend(filename);
    then,
    emailMes.sendMessage();
    Hope this helps.

    scphan,
thanks a lot for your reply! It is helpful! (although not "solved" - alas).
The thing still doesn't work: maybe I missed some magic trick?
If you bear with me, here is what I did:
    a) downloaded jdk-6u10-docs.zip
(from "Java SE Development Kit Documentation 6"
    -->
    https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewFilteredProducts-SingleVariationTypeFilter)
    -- it was unzipped automatically by my Safari downloader, creating the "docs" directory);
    b) then I pointed the Netnbeans to this dir (it says "Add ZIP/Folder", so to my understanding the "dir" should work, only faster), --
-- still "Show Javadoc" results in "Cannot perform"... (:-.
    Anything I did terribly wrong?
Note that I stared at the http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp for a while before finding the "documentation" link.
Noticeable also that the page starts with "What Java Do I Need?" but doesn't answer that question.
Why does Sun make it so freaking hard for the beginners?..
Does it make sence to ship something without documentation?..
Why doesn't Apple distribution include it for 1.6 although it does for 1.5 and 1.4?..
Why do creators of Java not care that Java actually works out of the box, -- including (and that I think makes my question a Java question) in one of the two most popular Java IDEs?
(The last few sentences are mostly for flounder).

    3.  Restart the computer, and then return to the [System Preferences] > [Printers & Scanners] window.
    4.  Click the [+] to add the printer.  Select [Select Printer Software] under [Use], and then select the [Canon MF8500 Series].

  • Print job help puttin two movieclips on the one page.

I am using the printjob function to print off a movieclip,
however.. i need to print off another movieclip on the same page
and cant seem to do it, how is it done? currently my code is like
    this:
    pj.addPage(cert, {xMin:-400, xMax:600, yMin:-400, yMax:800});
my instance name for my other movieclip is "white"

What do you want then? Can you describe how you like to position the text?
In word processing document you can use layout breaks and column beaks to get two text columns beside each other.
You can also use text boxes, one for each language. You can even use Shapes as text boxes.

  • HP DeskJet D1660 hangs in the middle of a print job?

My HP DeskJet D1660 occasionally hangs in the middle of a print job.  No error message appears but the light in the power button is blinking.  I have tried opening the printer queue and deleting the job.  The queue switches from status "printing" to status "deleting" and hangs with the queue never deleting the print job.
Solutions tried: turning off printer, unplugging printer, unplugging and replugging the USB cable.  None of these clears the queue or restarts the printer.  Restarting the machine also did not unclog the queue initially, however, after a lot of cable unpluging I got it cleared and was able to use the printer again.
Today It stopped in the middle of a print job again this time with an Excel spreadsheet (the first was printing a web page).  After trying some of the same fixes again but before powering down the computer I somehow got the HP Guided Solution up (I"m not sure what I did to trigger it).  Using this help system I managed to get the queue unclogged and the printer up and running following about ten different steps.
Why is this problem starting to reoccur.  Is there a permanent fix or will I have to struggle thru the process of stopping and starting the print spooler every time it happens.

    Hi hp_issed & TXGabe,
I understand that both of your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printers are not able to print correctly and quit in the middle of jobs.
What is the firmware version of the printer? click here to find out how to retrieve it.
Which Windows operating system are you running?
Is the printer connected via USB, ethernet or wireless?
Is the power to the printer connected directly into a wall outlet or a surge protector?
    Thank you,
I worked on behalf of HP.

  • HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw Multifunction Printer –job prints repeatedly by AirPrint from iOS 6 devices

HP would like to make customers aware of an issue with its LJ M1217nfw and LJ M1218nfs printers. When using AirPrint from an iOS 6 device (e.g. iPhone or iPad) with the iOS 6 OS, the print job will print continuously unless the customer cancels the job manually.
The reason: the latest FW available on HP.com (version 20120901) does not support AirPrint from Apple iOS devices (e.g., iPhone or iPad) with iOS6 OS. This will be fixed in the next version of firmware.
To avoid this issue, please use this workaround while waiting of the fix in the next release of FW. The previous verion of FW (version20120206) for M1217nfw does not have this issue.
To deal with this issue, customer can select any one of the operations to terminate the print job:
Cancel job manually in ‘Print Center’ from  iOS device
Double –click the Home button to display recently used apps
Swipe left or right to find ‘Print Center’
Tap ‘Printer Center’ and click ‘Cancel Printing’
Another option is to Power Cycle the printer.

  • HP 6110 All-in-one no longer prints...print jobs sit in queue

My printer worked fine last week and now I went to print somethign and it just sits in queue.  I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers, running the HP Diagnostic (which says everything seems fine) but nothing prints.   Any ideas on how to get this working again?  I also tried to print on my other laptop and that doesn't work either - so it's not an issue with this particular computer.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I have a similar problem but only with my vista pc.  All print jobs sit in the queue, don't print.  No problem printing on my mac.  Please jhelp!

  • Direct printing, disable queuing of print jobs

I have some label printers that are connected to touch screen macs that we use for checking people in, setup like a kiosk. I would like to have it print directly to the printer without them being queued up on the mac. When the labels run out or jam, dozens of jobs get stuck in the queue, and you can't tell it by looking at the computer (dock is hidden). My preference is that when that happens, the computer would instead of adding to the backed up queue, it would hang on the print job and would not allow any more activity on the computer until the printer was attended to. So what I am asking is: Is there a way like in the "old days" of mac, is to directly print to a printer without it going to the queue first?

    Short answer - no.

  • Cannot cancel print job on network B9180

I have a B9180 network connected printer with an IP number. A print job is registered and cannot be printed or cancelled from the computer that created the job. I have cancelled the job on the printer using the X button because it would not cancel from the computer.. The computer has been restarted, but the print job is still registered in the printer cue (Vista 64) for the printer.  I can select the job and select cancel, the printer says it is cancelling, but does not complete the cancel.
I cannot print any new jobs due to the bad job shown in the cue.
Can someone tell me how can I cancel the bad print job and clear the cue on the computer? I have tried everything I know.
    Thanks
