GX70 Destroyer - Can I update my bios?

Hi,
Can anyone help me by telling if it's safe to update my current bios? My bios version is E176KAMS.50F.
My concern is that on my product page: msi.com/support/nb/GX70-3CC-Destroyer.html#down-bios&Win8.1%2064
the provided bios' version is: E176KAMS.L0H
And because I saw this warning, i'm a little concerned:
Please download BIOS corresponds to the version in your notebook. For example, if a notebook is equipped with version E1763IMS.300, then please download version E1763IMS.3XX. Users should be aware that using incorrect BIOS version can result in a bricked system.
I want to update because I'm getting random freezes which force me to hard reset my computer. This has been happening since I bought it (4 months ago).
Thanks in advance

It's okay to update to L0H from 50F.
You will need to also update the video BIOS.
They will kick you GPU frequency back to 1250Hz again and it's good for performance.
Thanks for the reply RX. I've read that warning too yes; I've never flashed vbios before. Is the order of execution first the Bios then the vBios?
And do i need to prepare the vbios flash in advance or can i flash the bios then launch the pc and prepare the vbios afterwards?
Thanks again.

So you can´t update an GE60 with freedos to UEFI, is that right?
I have Windows 8 on my GE60 freedos und the problem that my GPU won´t boost.
Will this bug be fixed anytime soon?
You cannot update the GE60 that came with FreeDOS to UEFI, correct.
The GE60 does not have a GPU boost function like other models do. It does have a built in GPU boost that is regulated by the GPU, and this was fixed with a recent firmware update (roughly 3 or 4 months ago). You should update to the latest FreeDOS/Win7 bios if you have not yet.

  • How can I update the BIOS without using a CD?

    Hello!
I have recently decided to upgrade my RAM from 2GB to 4GB. After installing, I booted up my computer to find that it would not recognize the new memory. After doing a bit of troubleshooting, I decided to try and update the BIOS, as the version was from 2010. I downloaded the BIOS update boot CD application from lenovo, burned a disc, and on reboot I found that the boot order did not have CD listed on it. Here's the catch: I don't have the supervisor password. This is a hand-me-down laptop, and I have tried to find the password to no avail. This is the current boot order: USB drive, Hard drive.
My question is, can I either create a BIOS update disc using a USB, or update the BIOS some other way?
I understand that it is impossible to recover the supervisor password without having it serviced (which I would rather not do, even if I have to send my RAM back to Crucial)
    My system specs:
    Thinkpad L512
    Bios version: 1.04
    Bios date: 2010-3-26
    Embeded Controller Version: 1.01
    Windows 7 32 bit
    Thanks for your help.

    Welcome to the forum!
    Two things here:
    a) If you run System Update, it should offer the latest BIOS for your machine as well. I've never done it on a passworded unit, so it might or might not work but might be worth a shot.
    b) I doubt that the ability of the system to recognize new RAM has anything to do with the BIOS. ThinkPads much older than yours will run 4-8GB RAM with an old BIOS, older than your machine to begin with.
    Good luck.

  • CAN'T UPDATE THE BIOS!!

I have a Z60m and i would like to update my bios from version 1.12 to the latest. I downloaded the utility on the website, it says that my laptop should shut down and the restart in update mode but all i see is a regular restart of my laptop and no bios update.
    Did anyone had this problem?

You probably need to update the embedded controller to a version that the new BIOS can work with, check the information offered on the download site.
Now, before you ask; I know it says that if you need to update both BIOS and embedded controller you should update the BIOS first, it says the exact opposite on the embedded controller download site - confusing
Just choose your updates and versions carefully.

  • MSI H61M-P21 (B3) - Won't start, how can I update the BIOS?

    Hello Everyone!
I just bought an MSI H61M-P21 (B3) Motherboard along with Intel Celeron G530 Sandy Bridge (2.4 GHz) and 1 DIMM of 4GB DDR3 1600 KingMax. I use NJOY 500W true power as power supply. The system starts but no image, no beep code, nothing... Testet with another DIMM of RAM (4GB DDR3 1333 KingMax), but no luck. Tested with another power supply (450w true power), no luck again. I have tested the motherboard out of case, put on an antistatic surface, no luck... Reset CMOS, same situation: no image, no beepcodes...  On the Main BIOS Chip of the motherboard is a little sticker on which is written "E7680IMSH30" - i guess that the motherboard comes 'shipped' with 7680vH3 BIOS.
Is there a possibility to update the bios without replacing the CPU or send the board to RMA? I'm almost sure that the problem is around here...
Thanks in advance! Any answer is welcome!
P.S.: I appologise for my bad english.

    Good morning.
I've tested the motherboard this weekend with another DIMM of 4GB DDR3 1333, ThermalTake PSU (500W, i don't remember the model) and Core i3-2120 CPU - those components were taken from another IDENTICAL motherboard H61M-P21 (B3) with same version of BIOS. Didn't worked... I have tested my Celeron CPU G530 on the functional H61M-P21 (B3) and it's working...
So, there is a problem with my mainboard, i will send it to warranty.
Thanks a lot. Have a nice day!

  • Tecra M3 - Can't update the BIOS

    Hi,
I have a Tecra M3 (PTM30E) and TEMPRO is telling they're 2 bios updates for the machine.
I have downloaded them, but when I run them I am told the computer is not supported. How do I update the BIOS?
    Best wishes
    Michael

Why to hell do you need a BIOS update?
Only because the Tempro said that there is a new update?
Tempro sends only a notification that a new file has been uploaded
Its not a recommendation that you have to update this!
So if your notebook runs trouble free dont update anything!!
I always follow this advice; never change a running system! And its really wise advice

  • Portege R700 - Can't update the BIOS

    Hi,
I recently bought a Portege R700 19M and I have downloaded the latest version of the BIOS available in the Toshiba support page and when I run the .exe file, it doesn't work with this message: "The computer is not supported"
And, when I have a look in the HWSetup Toshiba tool, it doesn't display the BIOS version but some weird character (not usual letters) so I can't know which version is installed.
    thank you for your help

I have a similar problem. I have an R700 18Q (Short Model No: PT311E) and my SO is Windows 7 Pro, 64 bits, and when i try to run "BIOS180_EC140.exe" I got a message: "This computer is not supported".
    So, since "BIOS180_EC140.exe" is just an archive file, I have extracted all its content into a folder and these are all the files inside there: autoExec.0409; autoExec.0411; autoExec.vbe; BIO007BT.COM; CHGBIOSF.EXE; EC73V140.BIN; nchgbios2.exe; nchgbios2.sys; NCHGBIOS2x64.SYS; TosPwChk.dll; TosPwChk.lng; TosWshHelper.exe; version.ini.
So and now? What should I run? I have already tried nchgbios2.exe and TosWshHelper.exe, but nothing happens. Finally I have tried CHGBIOSF.exe, but I got the message: "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your...."

  • X220 4286-CTO can't update new bios

I get the new X220 today and want to update the new bios because the "unexpected CPU throttling mode" problem.
But when i using system auto update, it can't found any new bios(my bios is 1.12) for my system.
So i manually download the 1.17bios from the lenovo websit.
but when i install it, it also failed to refresh and indicate as follow:
The process does not recognize this system.
    The process has been canceled.
Could anybody tell me what the problem was?
My system is X220 4286-CTO, but i can't find my type on the web selection. And if I use autodetection,it confuse my system as X220i 4286-CTO.
I want to update to new bios. How can i do?
    THX!!

hoang0100, my apologies as I haven't understood you clearly...
May be you try flash BIOS via setup after laptop boots?
The BIOS flashing process is simple - just download the BIOS image and Update Utility (in one pack) from Lenovo's web site. Presently the last version of BIOS is 1.17, direct link on US site for your laptop model is here http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018805.
Download and launch exe file, setup process will start. You'll be promptetd the path where files will be extracted. At the end of installation process you'll be asked to start the flashing process automatically. Close all applications, plug-in AC adapter and start. You'll see the process. Don't do anything on laptop during that process, about one minute. At the end your laptop will be rebooted. That's end. Also you'll get backup copy of your current BIOS, that file has name bios.bak.
Note you can flash new BIOS or re-flash manually by launching winflash.exe.
    Cheers

Non B3 version, as im aware ME can't be flashed,
therefor update to newest BIOS base isn't possible
Do not try MSI updater all in one .exe file, which would brick the board for sure for such case.
Although you can still have a try by safest flashing way,
    use this bios archive:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/28rdsq4lzzwmeyl/430.rar?dl=0
and try again using the >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< mode 1 point to bios archive file as before
if can't be flashed it will through an error and will refuse to flash it
Hey Svet, thanks for the reply.....
Well im not quite sure what happened, my new GPU got delivered and i thought you what i'll install it to the board and see what happens, im sure it won't work but hey it's worth a try......
Well everything so far is working fine, GPU installed, drivers installed and i have tried a few games and they look great.
Could it be that the bios is flashed to 4.3 but its not showing on the screen?
    Thanks

I can't acces to cmos to change boot priorityre. HELP !!!
    Notebook Satellite S2410-504.
I try to normally press "C" on startup to boot from CD. but it don't work.
    F12 too don't help.
I think some set some password on HWUtility, but how disable this pasword?
    Please HELP!!!!

LOL... motherboard replacement? You dont need a new Motherboard.. Just a new flashed BIOS... Buy a new flashed BIOS... or ask someone to flash your old one...
Aaaand you can always update the BIOS with the wrong procedure :) as long as you dont reboot... If your highly skilled you will be also able to do the following trick...
Get a NB with the same BIOS and BIOS chip... Load the operating system... remove the BIOS chip while the operating system is... operating... Put the bad flashed or empty BIOS chip in the socket... Flash it... Now you got your accidentally bad flashed BIOS chip flashed...
To your BIOS Password problem Problem... I dont know, if Toshiba has build in a reset Jumper... But in Desktop systems, you can always reset the "complete" BIOS + Password with that jumper. Should be possible in Notebooks too...
