Handling connections on a server
Hi,
Im fairly new to multithreaded programming and I am creating a basic applet chat room. I have the basics working but im not sure how to go about handling the connections on the server. I was thinking about creating each connection on the server as a thread so that all incomming messages from different clients can be read at the same time. But I was wondering how would java cope if there were say a few hundred clients connected to the server, would java have trouble handling that many threads at the same time? The other way I thought would be to have just 1 thread for reading messages and 1 for sending messages which would loop through each connection reading 1 message at a time. Does anyone know which method would be best to use or have a more effecient alternative?
If you're writing this for academic purposes, or to be used by a small group of friends or coworkers, the simple solution of one thread per connection will be fine. On even an average PC, a few hundred or even a thousand or more threads will not be a problem, unless the server in question is also providing some other service, so that threads may be a scarce resource.
Having said that, a more robust a scalable approach would be to use a thread pool, and possibly a selector from the java.nio package. The basic idea is that, since not all clients are communicating all the time (It may seem like I'm working nonstop to type this message, but it's probably under a millisecond for my computer to package it up, and hand it off for delivery up to the Sun servers.), you can share threads among multiple connections.

Unable to connect to the server to pull data from mysql
Hello,
I am novice working with Flash Builder 4 and I just created a test application which runs well in my computer pulling data from Mysql using PHP and populating a datagrid. But when I transfered it to the my hosting provider failed. I have been doing some modifications to the gateway.php and amf.config.ini to solve some of the issues. Now the application try to run but doesn't populate the data in the datagrid. I included a tracking point in my data service file to read the connections variables, but they come up in blank. I highly appreciate any help. Here are my gateway.php, amf.config.ini and the data service.

* README for sample service
* This generated sample service contains functions that illustrate typical service operations.
* Use these functions as a starting point for creating your own service implementation. Modify the

Thank you for you prompt response. Yes, I have changed the connections variables in my dataservice ( I didn't post real values). You are right, after all I didn't make changes on the gateway.php except to add some tracking points. The one that I changed is the amf.config,ini. The application runs without any error exceptions, but don't populate the datagrid. According with the tracing is stoping just when establishing the connection to the database. Please let me know if you have any other clue. thanks -
Hi,
I have been trying to get a very simple WebJob developed and deployed onto Azure with little to no luck. I have a MVC Website which has a common project which handles my Data Access Layer with Entity Framework. I have created a WebJob project
using Visual Studio and added the following lines of code to the Manual Trigger Function
[NoAutomaticTrigger]
public static void ManualTrigger(TextWriter log, int value, [Queue("queue")] out string message)
RitualDBEntities db = new RitualDBEntities();
log.WriteLine("Function is invoked with value={0}", value);
List<Location> locations = db.Locations.ToList();
string msg = string.Empty;
foreach (Location location in locations)
msg += location.Name;
message = msg;
log.WriteLine("Following message will be written on the Queue={0}", message);
In my app.config of my WebJob i have the following connection strings:
<add name="RitualDBEntities" connectionString="metadata=res://*/RitualDBEntities.csdl|res://*/RitualDBEntities.ssdl|res://*/RitualDBEntities.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string="data source=ritual-pc\sqlexpress;initial catalog=RitualDB;integrated security=True;persist security info=False;MultipleActiveResultSets=True;App=EntityFramework"" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" />
<add name="RitualContext" connectionString="Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=RitualDB;Data Source=ritual-pc\sqlexpress" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
<add name="AzureWebJobsDashboard" connectionString="DefaultEndpointsProtocol=https;AccountName=ritual***;AccountKey=tQAP0gyMYKtWPJeIbsqk2iT2k69gyd1FwcyRf3+5Mc9b9EdYzpj0Dq8X2VHUmF*****"/>
<add name="AzureWebJobsStorage" connectionString="DefaultEndpointsProtocol=https;AccountName=ritual***;AccountKey=tQAP0gyMYKtWPJeIbsqk2iT2k69gyd1FwcyRf3+5Mc9b9EdYzpj0Dq8X2VHUmF*****" />
When i test locally (F5 Debugging) the webjob runs successfully and does the loop of the objects returned from the database. When i deploy this Azure the WebJob fails with the following error:

If i remove any of my database code and use just the basic Stub code my webjob will run successfully so i know that my connection strings (outside of the DB ones) are correct. My MVC web application also runs perfectly using the same connection strings
in Azure so i also know that they have also been configured.
I am now lost and need some guidance, so if someone is able to assist me that would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Ritual.Can you try to log the connection string you are using in both cases to make sure they are the same?
Also can you share your site name, either directly or indirectly?
This will help us investigate.
Thanks,
Amit -

I've been working on our church website and all of a sudden this week, my computer will not connect to the site. I keep getting a message saying that the the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can fix this?
The "The connection was reset" error message can be caused by a bug fix for the BEAST (Browser Exploit Against SSL/TLS) attack that the server doesn't handle.

Database Connection in SQL Server 2000
Hi All!
I would like to ask your expertise regarding JDBC-MS SQL Server 2000.
I have here a sample code in connecting to SQL Server 2000, AgriMrpPrd Database using the account "sa" and the password "092802". I have tried running the code in my local server at home and It successfully runs, but when I tried running it on my local server in the office, I was not able to create a connection object though I already have changed the HOST, PORT, DATABASE, USERNAME, and PASSWORD values.
I have tried logging in using my local account, removed the LAN connection, start my local server and tried connecting to it but still it does not work.
I have tried turning the firewall OFF and try reconnecting but it there was no improvement.
I do not know if there is a difference if there is my computer is on a DOMAIN (althought I am only connecting to my local server).
Source Code:
import javax.swing.*;
import java.sql.*;
import com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.*;
public class SQLServerConnection{
public String un, pw, db, host, port, url, driver;
public Connection conn=null;
public void connectDB(){

Please give me wisdom in handling this problem...

MADzHi All!
I would like to ask your expertise regarding JDBC-MS
SQL Server 2000.
I have here a sample code in connecting to SQL Server
2000, AgriMrpPrd Database using the account "sa" and
the password "092802". I have tried running the code
in my local server at home and It successfully runs,
but when I tried running it on my local server in the
office, I was not able to create a connection object
though I already have changed the HOST, PORT,
DATABASE, USERNAME, and PASSWORD values.If the code runs in one place and not the other, it's got to be a problem with seeing the host.
I have tried logging in using my local account,
removed the LAN connection, start my local server and
tried connecting to it but still it does not work.
I have tried turning the firewall OFF and try
reconnecting but it there was no improvement.
I do not know if there is a difference if there is my
computer is on a DOMAIN (althought I am only
connecting to my local server).I have no idea how to fix your problem, but there are several things to comment on about your code:
(1) You don't have to import the microsoft package. It's actually a bad idea.
(2) I'd name this class DbConnection, because if you wrote it properly it might have a chance of being useful wih other databases, too.
(3) You hardwire all the connection information. Better to pass it in so changing the database doesn't require a recompile.
(4) It's bad to mingle Swing and database code. Take those JOptionPane calls out.
(5) Print the stack trace out when you catch an exception. You're losing a lot of information by handling it that way.

Unable to connect to local server
Folks:
When I tried to access an older Mac running Leopard (10.5.8) from my MacBook Pro running Mavericks (Finder: Go: Connect to Server: LocalServer), I was unable to connect and received a message,
'There was a problem connecting to the server "LocalServer". The server may not exist or is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
I tried deleting any keychain refrerence to local computer.
I tried deleting the list of recent servers from the Finder.
I tried restarting both my laptop and the local server.
Nothing,
There is a local server icon under the "Shared" section of the sidebar of the Finder browsing window. I can find no way to delete this listing.
I can access the the Mavericks MBP from the old Leopard server via remote login, but I was unable access the old Leopard server from the new Mavericks running MBP.
I finally achiveved access by
1) Turning on SMB sharing for my account on the local server
System Preferences: Sharing: File Sharing: Options: SMB Sharing: MyAccount then storing my password.
2) On my MBP, connecting via smb.
Finder: Go: Connect to Server: [Enter smb://Localserver.local]
It finally worked, BUT … after successfully connecting to the local server, I now have TWO listings for Localserver in my Finder browser window, the live link and the old link which still says "Connecting."
I can't figure out how to get rid of the earlier afp link, OR how to make it work. I would prefer to use AFP as the SMB notation from both computers indicates that the storage of my password is not as secure.
Restaring the computer doesn't help.
I had a similiar problem when I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and I tried many of the same tricks to no avail. That problem seems to have fixed itself.
Anybody have any bright ideas?
Thanks much.I should have been more clear. This is on an 8-core Intel XServe.
I was able to use Server Admin locally on the machine for weeks. Now I can't. Nothing has changed or been altered on the machine during that period.
I can not connect to the server via Server Admin remotely or locally. I can connect via SSH, ARD, etc. and the system is still serving NFS just fine, so it's just the process that handles communication with Server Admin that is non responsive.
Something interesting from the syslog:
qt1 servermgrd[44258]: servermgr_accounts: noteDirectorySearchPolicyChanged (reopening nodes)
qt1 servermgrd[44258]: -[AccountsRequestHandler(AccountsOpenDirectoryHelpers) openLocalLDAPNodeIfNeeded]: dsLocalLDAP = (null) , error = Error Domain=com.apple.OpenDirectory Code=2000 UserInfo=0x1066a16c0 "Unable to open Directory node with name /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1."
qt1 DirectoryService[31]: DirectoryService has 42000 internal references open (due to clients), warning limit is 2000.
These lines repeated apprx. every 30 secs until I bounced the servermgrd. Now, I see that entry whenever I try to connect to the local server via Server Admin.
Now, this system is not a LDAP server, but I understand OSXS still uses LDAP for local directory info... I've tried restarting the related directory services as well, but still no joy.
It looks like my only recourse is a reboot, which is really not a great option for a dedicated file server. Am I the only one who has ever encountered this issue of Server Admin eventually losing contact with a server? -
Can we connect one DATASYNC server to two postoffices ?
Hi there,
We have 2 postoffices, one MTA, one GWIA (NetWare based) and one Datasync server. The GWIA handles 2 internet domains, the second domain is routed the second postoffice through a vpn tunnel to another location.
The first PO services a number of users and this all works fine. Now members of the of the second postoffice also want their devices to be synchronyzed.
Question is: can we create a second trusted soap connection from the one Datasyncserver we have? Or should we put a second datasync server on the remote location. This would best from a performance point view ofcoarse but, as we have only a few users on the second location, can it be done with one datasync server? Has anyone ever tried this?
Thanks in advance!
Eric LoderichsI have 22 different domains and they are all handled by one datasync server...try it and see. Make sure if there are any firewalls in the mix that it will pass the traffic...

MDM 7.1 Portal Connectivity to MDM server
Hi all
I was running the MDM 7.1 ramp up version so far with full connectivity from the portal to MDM. I had configured both the standard business partner and a custom repository using the Portal Business Content . Now that I have migrated to the just released MDM 7.1 (GA ) , I am encountering the following error at the portal level . I am using the standard "Using Mapping" to connect to the MDM server from the portal and not the newly introduced "Trusted Connection" . Any body has any clue as to whats going wrong ..

RayHi Ray,
This is a trusted connection problem. For this you need to create allow.ip and deny.ip files in your server. In allow.ip you need to give those ip address through which you would be connecting to MDM server executable file(mds.exe) like in your case your portals ip address. And in deny.ip you need to specify those ip which you feel shouldnt connect to MDM server. After assigning this ip remember to restart your mds.
Also the users through which you are trying to connect to an MDM repository, their usernames must exist on the MDM repositoryu2019s Users table.
For more details please see page 299 from MDM 7.1 Console refernece guide
I hope I am able to solve your problem

Hi,
I'm working in a client/server application. The server side is EJB 3.0 based and the client side is a simple GUI with connection properties, everyone working in a different computer.
Because of this, I want to handle all connection problems and report it to the user, by the moment I use to "throw" all errors up and then catch them and pop-up a message.
For example, at the begining it builds a tree -using a treeviewer-, and if the program couldn't connect, it prints a message and asks to try again or cancel. Later there is a menu option where you can refresh this view.
The problem is when I have been connected and I disconnect -manually- the network connection of the server, then I try to delete one of the tree objects -it needs to connect to the server for removing the entity- but in front of throwing a exception, it hangs and I have to kill the application and execute it again.
The code that hangs:
------------------------------------- Start of code ----------------------------------------
public class ComunicacioEJB {
private static facadeEJB.RedFacadeRemote redfacade;
public ComunicacioEJB() throws javax.naming.NamingException {
c = Context();
lookupRedFacade();
private void lookupRedFacade() throws javax.naming.NamingException{
/* exacly hangs here --> */ redfacade = (facadeEJB.RedFacadeRemote) c.lookup("RedFacade/remote");
-------------------------------- End of code ------------------------------------------
The context is loaded in another function.
Do you have any idea of why is this happening? Why it throws if the connection problem is at the start of the program but hangs if the connection problem is once you have been connected before?
Also it happens if I try to refresh the view or wharever I try.
Thanks for reading.
MiquelHi again,
I haven't found solution yet, but I'm thinking on having a timer or similar for the connection, once this timer ends the funcion throws an exception for timeout.
I will try and I say to you -
Native sql connect to sql server
hello everyone!
my r/3 application server is unix os,versio is 620,I want to connect outer sql server,how can I make it?
thanks in advance!
if the suggest is helpfull,point will be rewarded.hi Bruce,
in R3 we can use SQL statements which are native to particular RDBMS (ie that too execute as it like on their SQL server) we enclose them with
EXEC SQL [PERFORMING subr].
ENDEXEC.
Effect
These statements define an area in an ABAP program in which one or more Native SQL statements are to be carried out. The area between EXEC and ENDEXEC is not completely checked by the syntax check. The statements entered there are passed to the Native SQL interface and processed there as follows:
Almost all SQL statements that are valid for the addressed database system can be included between EXEC and ENDEXEC, in particular the DDL statements. These SQL statements are passed from the Native SQL interface to the database system largely unchanged. The syntax rules are specified by the database system, in particular the case sensitivity rules for database objects. If the syntax allows a separator character between individual statements, you can include several Native SQL statements between EXEC and ENDEXEC. Generally, the semicolon ( is used as the separator character.
You can also include SAP-specific Native SQL language elements between EXEC and ENDEXEC. These statements are not passed directly from the Native SQL interface to the database, but are converted appropriately. These SAP-specific language elements are::
Host variables
Statements for cursor processing
Database procedure calls
Statements for establishing database connections
All Native SQL statements bypass SAP buffering. Automatic client handling is not performed.
System fields
The statement ENDEXEC sets the system fields sy-subrc and sy-dbcnt. When using the addition PERFORMING, note that implicit cursor processing is carried out and the system fields are set for every read process.
sy-subrc Meaning
0 The statements between EXEC and ENDEXEC were executed successfully.
4 The statements between EXEC and ENDEXEC were not executed. After implicit cursor processing with PERFORMING, sy-subrc always contains the value 4.
The ENDEXEC statement sets sy-dbcnt to the number of table rows processed in the last Native SQL statement. After implicit cursor processing with PERFORMING, sy-dbcnt contains the total number of lines read.
Note
Programs with Native SQL statements are generally dependent on the database system used, so that they cannot be executed in all ABAP systems. This is especially true for the examples in this section, which was written for Informix database systems.
Example
Inserting two rows in the database table SCARR. If neither of these rows exists, sy-subrc is set to 0 by ENDEXEC and sy-dbcnt to 1. Otherwise, an exception is raised and handled.
DATA: exc_ref TYPE REF TO cx_sy_native_sql_error,
error_text TYPE string.
TRY.
EXEC SQL.
INSERT INTO scarr
(MANDT, CARRID, CARRNAME, CURRCODE, URL)
VALUES ('000', 'FF', 'Funny Flyers', 'EUR',
'http://www.ff.com');
INSERT INTO scarr
(MANDT, CARRID, CARRNAME, CURRCODE, URL)
VALUES ('000', 'EF', 'Easy Flyers', 'EUR',
'http://www.ef.com');
ENDEXEC.
CATCH cx_sy_native_sql_error INTO exc_ref.
error_text = exc_ref->get_text( ).
MESSAGE error_text TYPE 'I'.
ENDTRY.

Hi Rahul.U,
Are you able to connect to SQL Server successfully from SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) when enforcing encryption?
According to above error message, it could be caused by the inappropriate server name or incorrect TrustServerCertificate configuration in the connection string from Visual Studio. There are some proposals for you troubleshooting this error.
1. Make sure that you connect to the SQL server using the fully qualified domain name (FQDN).
2. When connecting to a SQL Server instance with a valid certificate, please add the
TrustServerCertificate
parameter and set it to true in the connection string. For more details, please review this
article.
However, if you can successfully connect to SQL Server via SSMS, but still fail to connect to SQL Server from Visual Studio, I would like to recommend you post the question in the .Net Framework forum at
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/home?category=netdevelopment . It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.
There are similar articles about error “The target principal name is incorrect” for your reference.
