Handling variable flat file name in UNIX environment

Dear Forum,
I am working in a project where,
Online systems generate flat files with variable names (followed by timestamp) and load into a Unix directory (FTP Location) for loading into data warehouse.
Using OWB, I will have to rename those files into a static name then execute the mapping. Once the mapping is executed the the source file should be transfered to a different directory.
I am trying to do this using a external process in OWB process flow. I found a similar reference in the link below
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/pdf/Cases/case7.pdf
But here it is shown for windows only. As I do not know unix, I could not proceed a lot with this.
Therefore requesting you all, please help me showing how can I achive this. I think your answer will help many others along with me, looking for the same solution. Please help.
Kind Regads
Zakir

You will need to logon as your Oracle owner (the userid is ORACLE, in my case), and then issue the following commands from a terminal session:
To create a new reports server (one in addition to the default
in-process server), use the following commands:
export ORACLE_HOME=<whatever your oracle home path is>
cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
./rwserver.sh <newserver name>
To start the new server, issue:
./rwserver.sh server=<newserver name>
Leave the Unix session that was used to start the server logged on unless you have something like DTWM running that will keep the server running. Otherwise, if you log off the unix session, the server will end.
Then just substitute the new server name in your line command. The difference between the in-process server and a standalone server is that the in-process server will not always stay active - it will start when it receives a request. The standalone server will stay active all the time and wait for requests.
If the standalone server works for you, I would suggest then putting it in the correct config files to let Enterprise Manager manage it for you. If you get that far, let me know and I can tell you how to do that also. (Plus the instructions are in the Publishing Reports To The Web manual).

  • Flat file to Oracle: Dynamic flat file name

    Hi,
    I am doing a transformation from flat file to oracle.
    At one place there is requirement like flat file name is dynamic.
    *eg. D:\ Flat DB\ Sample<Date>.txt
    examples may be like Sample09012012,Sample08012012 *
    As in physical schema we specify name of file is there any way by which we can specify dynamic file name.
    as stated above.
    Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    Yes you can specify a variable in the file name ( the resource name filed) .
    You need to refresh the variable in a package and then use the interface to pick data from the file .
    Thanks,

  • Creating dynamical flat file name in mapping?

    Hi.
    I know about the variations on how to use an input parameter and/or sysdate to create a dynamic output file name in a mapping.
    My challenge is nearly the same, but I cannot make OWB generate the correct code.
    Problem:
    - got a one column table that holds an identifier in a string field
    - got a function that reads and returns said identifier
    - imported function into OWB
    - trying to use the function call in the Flat File Operator's Target Data File Name, e.g. fixedfilename||fn_get_id()||sysdate||'.ext
    OWB creates the code:
    UTL_FILE.FOPEN(
    'my_location',
    'fixedfilename'||fn_get_id()||'_'||SYSDATE||'.ext',
    'w',
    32767
    However, when compiling the package code, it returns the warning:
    ORA-06550: PACKAGE BODY, line 2214, column 29: PLS-00201: identifier 'FN_GET_ID' must be declared
    which results in an error when trying to execute the mapping.
    I've tried substituting the function call in the FOPEN call:
    myId := fn_get_id();
    UTL_FILE.FOPEN(
    'my_location',
    'fixedfilename'||myId||'_'||SYSDATE||'.ext',
    'w',
    32767
    and this works fine, the mapping creates a file with the desired filename. But obviously not a good solution rewriting the generated code all the time....
    Anyone solved something similar?
    Could I use an input parameter and the autogenerated function GET_<PARAMETER>?
    But can I set the value of an input parameter inside the very same mapping?
    Regards,
    -Haakon-

    (It always helps writing out one's problems...)
    I managed to get it working :-)
    Added an input parameter to the mapping, and gave the outgroup variable a default value by calling my imported function.
    Then concatenated the implicitly generated function (GET_PARAMETER) in the Target Data flat file name.
    I now have a target file name that changes according to a departement id stored in a parameter table.

  • How to compile form orginal file(*.fmb) in UNIX environment

    These days, i encounter a problem, i create a form application in Windows2000 or WindowsXP environment, then i compile this .fmb file to .fmx, then i transport this .fmx file to Unix environment which is our Application Server, the Oracle Application Server is in this Unix environment, i put this file in the directory which is directed in the Forms_Path variable, however, when i started to run this application by entering a valid url, the message shows that this fmx file is not runtime file, someone told me that i should recompile the orginal file under unix environment, so i transport the orginal file(.fmb) to unix environment, then i want to use the f90genm tool to compile the .fmb file, however, it shows that this command can not execute, it shows that can not open a lib file under:/project/.../../..,however, this directory does not exist at all, what case this error? i also use f90gen command, it shows: can not execute/finish creation, i want to know, how to use the two commands and what parameters i should set before using the commands? thanks

    If you are talking about forms 10g then here is the method
    1) run x windows interface on your machine
    2) login to linux server
    $ export DISPLAY=<IP address of machine>:0.0
    $ frmcmp.sh module_type=form module=myform.fmb userid=user/password@connectstring compile_all=yes

  • To read flat file from a unix server

    We need to read a flat file from a Unix server, where our Database is located.
    The location gets created correctly.
    But while we are trying to import files from the location in Design Center , we get an error that "directory does not exists", although the directory has all the permissions.
    Can someone please suggest how should we create the location so as it can read the files.
    Please Reply ASAP......

    We have started Design Center on a local machine(Windows Machine) with uaer as repository owner of the server,
    In the design center we can not sample the file till we import it,
    can you please tell how to sampe the file without importing it.
    Also a location pointing to server location gets easily created on the design center and the file module points to that location only, but when we try to import the file through that location, it says directory does not exists, although oracle user has all the read write permissions on the directory......
    Please help!

  • Fix variable text (File Name) when importing INDD into INDD

    More of a fix request than a new feature:
    Simply put, the variable text (File Name) shows the file extension when the document is imported into another INDD regardless of the variable text specifications in the originating document. This is unexpected and undesired.
    Please see problem description in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/489492?tstart=0

    Seconded. Currently, I don't use this variable in this way, but I can envisage future scenarios where it would be a problem.
    And it seems a strange thing to miss out on ... (why would an INDD file behave different?)

  • Include Flat file name as a field in the PSA / DSO.

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to include the Flat file name also in the DSO which is used for loading the data from a flat file source. I have created a new infoobject for File Name in the DSO. Can you guide me from which table I can get this information.
    I was thinking of reading this information from the table which stores the file name in a routine in the transformation to the DSO.
    I came across the table RSLDPSEL, it stores the Infopackage name and file name. But this does not work when I am using the same infopackage to load multiple files. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Hari.

    Hi,
    The main challenge is to get the Technical name of the infopackage in the transformation ( field routine) from PSA (Datasource Source) to DSO for the Filename info object.
    Is there any table which stores the Infopackage and the corresponding data target information in BI 7.0 sothat I could use the field routine in transformation to get the Infopackage ID based on the data target (DSO) ?
    Once I have the technical name of the Infopackage, my logic is to query the RSLDPSEL table and find the file name based on Infopackage ID.
    Please share your thoughts on how this scenario could be realised.
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Hari

  • Dynamic flat file name as source

    Hi All,
    I working on ODI 11g 11.1.1.3 version.
    I have Flat file say ABC01 as source, flat file was successfully load into target.
    But next day new file say ABC02 with same structure was generate from client.
    Every day new file is generate say ABC03, ABC04 and so on.
    how to use this file to load data, without changing file name.
    dynamically can it is possible.
    Please give me suggestion.
    Thanks in advance
    Prashant

    Hi Prashant,
    You can achieve this by doing the following :
    1. Create a variable Called FILE_NAME
    2. Go to your file datastore and replace the Resource Name with variable #FILE_NAME. So you need to pass correct file name to the variable.
    3. To get the filename into variable , you can look into the following thread
    Read FileNames in Directory
    Hope it helps

  • Select flat file name using routine

  • File name under UNIX

    Hi,
    I have this problem: a part of my application is reading a file name. Sometimes the file name contains special characters: , .... Everything works fine when I'm testing on Windows. When I'm testing under UNIX I get '?' insteed of . I can see that la file has a corect name on the HDD.
    Why my application displays different results on Windows and UNIX?
    Ex:
    File f = new File("bla/bla1/bla2");
    Filter filter = new Filter(".txt");
    String[] files = f.list(filter);
    The files array contains diferennts strings on Windos comparing to UNIX.

    Que? File names are allowed to contain certain characters in windows, and another set of characters in unix.

  • Flat file name from Sender Side Dynamically into subject of Receiver Mail

    Hi All,
             I am Using a file to Mail Scenario, My requirement is to get dynamically the file name from flat file of the Sender Side into Subject of Receiver Mail Adapter and attachment of file from the Sender Side. Can anyone help me out.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi....
              You can write udf in the message mapping to get the Dynamic file name and map that to the subject of the receiver mail.
      DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) param.get(
              StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey KEY_FILENAME = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","FileName");
          // read value
          String Filename = conf.get(KEY_FILENAME);

  • How do you dynamically set the flat file name

    Within my process flow I call a mapping. Within this mapping I have a flat file operator (which creates and writes to a .csv file). All working great.
    From this process flow I want to be able to pass a parameter to the mapping (which I can do), and use the value of this parameter as the file name of the .csv file. But I can’t seem to be able to dynamically set the ‘Default physical file name’ to this parameter value within the mapping.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks
    Ansel

    Hi Ansel
    Check out the blog entry here;
    http://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/newsItems/viewFullItem$154
    You can use an expression.

  • Preventing file extensions being added to variable text (File Name)-

    …when one imports one INDD file (v5 or 6) into another. We have the variable text specifications set to exclude file extensions. The .indd does not publish in the originating document.
    We use INDD import and the text variable "File Name" quite a lot.
    TIA-
    -Todd

    I think he's saying that when you open an ID doc, the filename variabe inside can be set to report just the name, but when you import that same doc into another ID doc, the filename variable shows the ".indd" extension.
    EDIT: Yes, that is (stupidly) how it seems to work. No idea how to fix it though. Suspect Adobe has to issue an update.
