Hello
I tried to install Handoff but it doesn't work.
I have Iphone 6 IOS8.0.2 and mac pro last generation on 10.9.5
Explanations on apple.com about handoff are too light,
I need more because I tried everything and nothing happened
I don't understand how to pair devices in ICloud for example
and I would like to use my mac to call, but it's the same thing : it never works.

OK. The reason I asked for details is because this does work for me.
I found what you were referring to on page 18.
Persoanlly I find handoff a pain to activate because with Touch ID activated I wake and instantly unlock the iPhone with a single press but here is how I found handover to work from my watch to iPhone.
I opened a message conversation on the watch - purposely I did not choose the last person I was writing to.  Then, I woke my phone with the power button to see the lock screen. Then I could see the messages icon in the bottom left of the phone lock screen and when I slid that icon up (and then entered my password) the phone unlocked into the messages app and the specific conversation I choose.
With Mail, very similar except after Mail opened it did not go to the particular thread - I got an error to say communication with my phone was lost.
Of course, ensure Bluetooth is on on your iPhone.
If this doesn't work for you. Try resetting or repairing your watch but otherwise I'd say you need to call Apple support.

    Hi all,
    I have an extremely strange issue on my rMBP which has not been solved yet despite over 2 hours on the phone with Apple support, and another hour after being put through to a Senior Advisor, and several online chats.
    I have a Apple Certified Refurbished Late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro, which has a 2.3Ghz i7, 16GB of RAM, 500 Flash Storage and the NVIDIA discrete graphics. It was purchased in December 2014 on the Apple Store. It is running 10.10.2.
    For some reason, my computer WILL NOT register with iCloud. Messages and Facetime both would not work, my iPhone 4S which is capable of text message forwarding would not recognise it and allow me to turn it on. Handoff, Continuity and Instant Hotspot - basically any of the features to do with iCloud or connecting to another device - do not work.
    Originally I believed it was just an issue with Messages and Facetime so I reinstalled the OS back to 10.10.1, but that did not solve the problem. All my Messages contacts kept on coming back as 'not registered with iMessage' and I could not turn on SMS Relay either.
    I contacted Apple on Wednesday night and ended up talking to several different people, the Senior Advisor was the most helpful - really tried to help me figure out what was wrong, and to fix it - wonderful help, really was. They used screen sharing and were quite confused. They figured out as well that Handoff, Instant Hotspot, and all those other features don't work either. At this point, they made me update to 10.10.2 to see if it was an issue with the update, but to no avail.
    Eventually, the SA checked my iCloud account and saw that the computer hadn't even connected to iCloud, and wasn't even showing up as one of my devices, despite the fact that I had signed into iCloud on this computer.
    The SA told me that he suspected it must have been something to do with hardware, but didn't know what it could be. He said the only time he had seen this before was on a refurbished laptop when the serial number hadn't been put back on, but my serial number was there, so he said it must have been something to do with Bluetooth or Wifi.
    Wireless seems to work completely fine, but there is a strange thing with Bluetooth in which within System report says that the computer is not discoverable or connectable, despite the fact that in the Menu Bar it says it is on and discoverable. It becomes discoverable and connectable once you toggle the switch in System Preferences.
    I was planning to book a Genius Bar Appointment as suggested by the SA, but something strange happened today - all of a sudden, some (not all of them) of my iMessages from earlier today came through. Still no working Handoff or Facetime or Continuity, but now I am starting to wonder what is really wrong.
    Despite the fact they said it was hardware (especially Bluetooth), what could explain why it (seldom) or will not register with iCloud? Can anybody shed some light on the situation and whether a Genius Bar appointment could help fix it?

    Needed to add some clarification here:
    iCloud shows me as signed in, but Calendars are NOT checked
    Internet Accounts shows Calendars as syncing

    I have the latest updates (iOS 8.1) installed and my MBP is on Yosemite 10.10...
    I have my iPad Air, iPhone6, and MBP on the same network.
    And, I have bluetooth enabled.
    Yet, I don't see the handOff icon appear on any of my mobile devices...
    Am I missing something??
    Does setting a password on all my devices affect this feature?

    To get Handoff working between your devices, please take a look at the article below for settings needed to be configured on your devices.
    Check your settings
    Check the following settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
    Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
    Make sure your iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and comparing the name of the network each is on.
    Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
    Go to Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps and make sure Handoff is on.
    Go to Settings > Phone. If you seeWi-Fi Calling, turn it off.
    Check the following settings on your Mac:
    Go to the Wi-Fi icon at the top of your screen and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
    Make sure your Mac and iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi on your iOS device and compare the name of the network with the Wi-Fi network on your Mac.
    Go to the Bluetooth icon at the top of your screen and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
    In System Preferences > General, select “Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices.” If you don't see this setting, your Mac may not support Handoff.
    Open the FaceTime app, go to FaceTime > Preferences and turn on “iPhone Cellular Calls.”
    Go to System Preferences, and sign out and then sign in again to your iCloud account.

  • Handoff does not work on a 2 1/2 year old MacBook Air

    As I do a lots of fieldwork I was looking forward to using the new handoff feature in Yosemite which would allow me to transfer my work from my iPad to my 2 1/2 year old MacBook Air. I have now discovered that my laptop is too old for this feature. Why? This smacks of built-in obsolescence.

    This is a user-to-user support forum, so we can't usually explain the "why" of many Apple decisions, although you may get some educated guesses from someone here. You can provide feedback to Apples at https://www.apple.com/feedback/ if you like.
    May not help, but my MacBook Air is a mid-2012 model that is supposed to support Handoff but I've yet to get it to work in spite of meticulously following all of the instructions.
    Also may not help, but I don't really care if I don't get it to work as all it would seem to do is very slightly reduce the number of steps to open a document on the other device. Without Handoff I can start a document in Pages on my MacBook Air, save to iCloud then go to my iPhone and open Pages and resume editing there. You may already be aware of that -- and you may have more need or use of Handoff than I do -- but thought I would point that out just in case you were thinking Handoff provided more capabilities than it does.

  • Is Handoff and not available for iPad.  feature is NOT showing in settings

    Downloaded iOS 8 on my iPad 3 and iPhone 5s. The Handoff feature is present (under Settings=General) on the 5s and enabled.  The iPad doesn't even display the feature, as if it's not there or even available at all.  Anyone else having this issue?  I've restored once and re-downloaded iOS 8 with the update, yet still no Handoff!

  • HT6510 Mid-2011 Macbook Air doesn't support Air Drop/Continuity/Handoff?

    Why does my mid-2011 Macbook Air not support Air Drop/Continuity/Handoff?  It has Bluetooth 4.0, which is what I thought was the main requirement for getting these devices to work together. I also have an iPhone 6 Plus and a 4th gen iPad.

    If you check your "System Information", it will tell you if Handoff is supported:
    Click on  > About This Mac > System Report...
    Under Hardware, click Bluetooth and check the "Handoff Supported" line

  • Handoff mail problems 8.0.2 and 10.10

    I am having problem with continuity/handoff and mail.
    When I start writing an Email on the iPhone and then handoff to the Mac, the Email opens after some time of a wheel is spinning next to "loading".
    Then I see what I had typed on the iPhone but I cannot continue typing.
    I cannot even close the mail by clicking the red dot.
    I can, however, click in the address bar or the subject field.
    Only thing that helps is to quit mail.
    Then the mail appears under drafts and can be deleted.
    This must be a big - or am I doing something wrong?

    You mean the people that that just 'send report to apple' and get on with it I presume? Like me most of the time. Well, as we all know, there are so many variables. The fact is, as far as I'm concerned right now is that Logic 8.0.1 needs some serious work. I can for sure say that I have noticed a snappier response as far as the graphics go. But as for overall performance, it needs an update. I'm trying not to be negative toward your positive thread however, do a search on overloads and, well, they will unfortunately outweigh this thread for sure. It does make me wonder mind how the price of a pro app like Logic tumbled when apple released the Logic studio box. It's £100 cheaper than Cubase 4. It just makes me think garage band ultimate edition right now.

  • Handoff does not work after phone replacement.

    I'm using iPhone 6 and Macbook Pro Retina 2014 mid and getting some trouble with using continuity on Yosemite.
    Before I use iPhone 5s 16G(IOS 8.1.1)when it was not thrown to the water , continuity does work so well.  But after that, replacing it for iPhone 6, it does not.
    I think it could be happen since my previous iPhone 5s cannot be logout from iCloud but i don't know why exactly.
    so could you give me some advice for fixing it?
    I'm currently using iPhone 6 (64G)with IOS 8.1.1 (12B436) and Macbook Pro Retina 15" with OS X Yosemite 10.10.1(14B25)
    and I also tried to solve this problem with logout/in from iCloud and handoff off/on, rebooting both devices but failed.
    The only working function of the continuity is SMS sync.
    Could you please help me solve this problem?

    I thought I'd post you a quick response because you described exactly the issues I was having. After my phone was idle for a while, my iPhone would refuse to get data over 3G.
    I've tested this thoroughly and I'm able to "trip up" the phone into a state where it can't download data from the 3G network. But turning airline mode on for about 30 seconds then off again resets forces a renegotiate with the cell tower/3g and everything seems to work again about a minute later.
    Nothing untoward listed in the console at this point either - The PDP context that you mentioned that was deactivated was more than likely the Internet Tethering. (It's usually PDP context 1, by the looks of things).
    I think I might switch off 3G and see if that helps until Apple fix this issue. It is related to the wifi issues that others have reported - As I've seen my iPhone unable to download information via 3G if wifi is turned on, but you don't connect to a wifi network. But I can't seem to reproduce this reliably.

"Failed to Continue Activity" Cocoa Error 4609.  Handoff is working for phone calls and text messages. By email just crashes each time. It was also doing it under 8.0.2.  My iPhone and iPad handle this fine. It's only the MacBook to the iPhone that fails, and only on email.

  • Handoff & AirDrop Not Working on MacBook Pro (Yosemite, iOS 8.1)

    I'm trying to get Continuity working on my Mac but I'm not having any luck. Handoff and AirDrop are working well on my iPhone 5 and iPad Air 2 but it just won't work with the Mac.
    It's a 2012 model MacBoo Pro with Retina Display running the latest version of OS X Yosemite. Both of my other devices are running iOS 8.1 and I'm logged in to my iCloud on everything. I've tried signing out if iCloud on the Mac, turning Bluetooth off and on, turning Handoff off and on again on, restarting the Mac but no luck. I'm receiving texts on the Mac and phone calls so my Mac is connected to my iPhone in some sense but that's about it.
    I'm also having problems with Notification Center. I'm trying to add the Reminders widget to the Today view but whenever I add it nothing appears.
    I'm unable to make any changes to my Notifications in Settings either. I use Magic Prefs and every time I start my Mac a notification pops up saying it's active so I go to settings and turn them off and when I log in again I get the same message. This didn't used to happen in OS X Mavericks so I don't know why I can't change it now (I'm guessing it's a compatibility issue but just thought I'd mention it).
    Anyone got any solutions to my problems? Would really appreciate some help. Cheers

  • How to configure switch to route ISP ethernet handoff? (L3 or VLAN routing)

    I have an ISP providing a redundant internet circuit through Ethernet handoff, and I need to route their border network to my firewall which will hold the public IP address block.  The handoffs will go into 2 3750 switches stacked, which in turn will be uplinked to an ASA active/standby pair.  How do I configure the switches to handle the traffic?  The equipment isn't in place yet so I can't test the configuration; just trying to validate the plan.  I'm not sure of the pros/cons of using L3 switchport vs VLAN routing.
    Example, ISP provides 2 drops, 10.10.10.1/29 and 10.10.10.2/29, and a virtual gateway to route traffic out to the internet, 10.10.10.3/29 (FYI - in reality these are public IP's, just using privates for example).  Assume the public block is 192.168.0.0/24.  I need to configure the 3750 switches with interfaces of 10.10.10.4/29 and 192.168.0.1/24.  The ASA firewall outside interface will be 192.168.0.2/24.
    The ISP routes everything destined for 192.168.0.0/24 to 10.10.10.4/29.  I need to route all outbound internet traffic to 10.10.10.3/29.
    So the 3750 would have a layer 3 port-channel with IP 10.10.10.4/29 to uplink to the ISP drops.  It will also have another layer 3 port-channel with IP 192.168.0.1 (or should I use a VLAN interface for both or either?).  The ASA outside interface will be 192.168.0.2.  On the ASA my default route out is 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.0.1.  The default route on the 3750 stack will be 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.10.10.3.
    Thoughts?

    Hi,
    I have been trying to use handoff(Continuity)  between my iPad mini and iPhone 6 both using iOS 8.1.
    I managed to be able to do it with iOS 8 with a 5c instead of a 6 but now my iPad can not be detected on my phone and vice versa and if they do appear they will not connect and then disappear off the list.
    Its a shame one of the main features I was looking forward to I am unable to use (I can't even use it on my mac because it is outdated!)
    Is there anyway to get around this?
    Also I know this is off topic but I travel on trains a lot and my iPad mini is not cellular if I can get handoff working again is it possible to still use the sms forwarding feature?

    Be advised, however, that I and many others are using iOS 6.1 with WPA2-secured WiFi networks with no problems at all. (iPad 3, iPad 4, iPhone 5)
    Did anyone suggest checking if the firmware in your Comcast router is up-to-date or suggest something as simple as restarting the router by removing power to it for 30 seconds?

    I'm not sure but I haven't seen anything on the Apple site that indicates that it would not work. The following troubleshooting documents may help: Get help using Continuity with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite - Apple Support
    Note in particular the Mac models supported. The other thing that occurs to me is that in addition to being on the same network they would have to be within Bluetooth range of each other.

    Im trying to use the Handoff feature but i don't get the option to. I have set it up on my phone to work and on Mac, I can receive calls from my phone onto my MacBook Air but I can't use it for my mail. Im using a NTL world account if that makes a difference.

    I Have just updated my 3rd generation iPad to iOS 8.0, and the first thing I looked for was the handoff feature, but the switch is not showing. I turned it on on my iPhone 5s running iOS 8. I thought it'd work after turning Bluetooth on, but nothing changed.
