Hang while connecting to Oracle 9.2 DB in VS 2005
I use ODP 9.2.0.401 (but also tried 9.2.0.7 and 10.2.0.1) against a 9.2.0.4 Database, Client and server residing on separate XP SP2 machines.
I use the English version of Visual Studio 2005 on a German XP machine.
In one solution, I successfully access the DB in a web service project but cannot connect the Db from a simple test form in another project using the following code:
Imports System.Data
Imports Oracle.DataAccess.Client
Public Class DalTestForm
Private dbConn As OracleConnection
Private Sub Button2_Click(...) Handles Button2.Click
dbConn = New OracleConnection()
dbConn.ConnectionString = "Data Source=sbs0.wks001;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sbs0;Password=sbs0"
dbConn.Open()
Debug.Print("Connected")
End Sub
End Class
The Debug.Print is never executed and the IDE hangs. Only a reboot of the client is able to kill the process "DalTest.vshost.exe" which completely loads the CPU.
I was going to use System.Data.OracleClient which works fine but there I cannot pass array parameters to stored procedures can I ?
I start loosing too many hours on this now. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks
Stef
There is not ODP.NET version officially supporting .NET 2.0.
If you use any 1.x version (9.2.x or 10.1.x) , it could work or it couldn't.
In my case it doesn't work. I will wait until the next version which is said to be 2.0 compatible (in later may it seems)
And as you find the MS provider doesn't accept array parameters.
Sorry

While Connecting to Oracle through jdbc thin driver, following error is displayed. Please help me in resolving the same.
<b>SQL Exception:

Any or all of the following conditions may also apply:
1) You are able to establish a SQL*Plus connection from the same client to the same Oracle instance.
2) You are able to establish a JDBC OCI connection, but not a Thin
connection from the same client to the same Oracle instance.
3) The same JDBC application is able to connect from a different

Error while connecting to Oracle in Linux
I wrote a JAVA program to test the connection with Oracle. It worked in NT environment, but it did not in Linux Environment. I got the error message: "IO exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection."
Here is JAVA code:
import java.sql.*;
class Employee1
public static void main (String args [])
throws SQLException
try{
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
Connection conn =
DriverManager.getConnection ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@203.149.143.1:1521:ora1",
"dxhub", "manager");
Statement stmt = conn.createStatement ();
ResultSet rset = stmt.executeQuery ("select user_id from user_info");
while (rset.next ())
System.out.println (rset.getString ("user_id"));
catch(Exception e)
System.out.println(e.getMessage());
I think there is nothing wrong with JAVA code. There must be something wrong in the Linux environment. I appreciate your help if someone can give me a little advice.

Problem in sql developer while connecting to oracle 11g
when am creating a database connection with oracle 11g in sql developer editor it s throwing network adapter could not establish the connection
connection name test
user name system
password system
Role default
Host name localhost
Port 1521
SID orcl
Can any one help me to resolve the problem?
Thanks in advanceThose parameters probably aren't correct.
Is that 11g on your machine? Try to specify the real IP instead. And sure the listener is up?
Also sure about the SID and port?
Hope that helps,

Problem while connecting to Oracle 9i server from Oracle8.1 client
Hi experts,
Could you please help in resolving the issue we are facing.
We are trying to connect from Oracle 8.1 client to Oracle 9.2 server and its giving error .This is on Linux environ ment.
FYI - we are getting errors when we changed the client as Oracle 8.1 instead of Oracle 9.2.
Pls suggest.
Thanks.8i client can connect to the 9iR2 database, but beware wich client are you talking about, only 8.1.7 is compatible against 9iR2, even though you must be aware this is a no longer supported combination, which means in case you find a bug the only solution available is to upgrade the client version to 9iR2.
By the way, is there a real reason why you have to tie your client to 8i? Being 8i long ago dessuported.

Error while connecting to oracle 10g data base
Following is the code we used to connect to oracle 10g data base using symbian 7.1 series 80 SDK
int CTest_S80AppUi::SetupODBC(void)

char *DataSource = OD_DATA_SOURCE;
char UserId = "system", Password = "manager";
rc=SQLAllocEnv(&Henv);
//if (TEST_CHECK_ERR(SQL_NULL_HSTMT, rc, "SQLAllocEnv", FALSE) < 0) return(-1);
rc=SQLAllocConnect(Henv, &Hdbc);
//if (TEST_CHECK_ERR(SQL_NULL_HSTMT, rc, "SQLAllocConnect", FALSE) < 0)
//return(-1);
rc = SQLConnect(Hdbc, (unsigned char *)DataSource, SQL_NTS,
(unsigned char *)UserId, SQL_NTS,

SQLAllocStmt(Hdbc, &Hstmt);
//if (TEST_CHECK_ERR(SQL_NULL_HSTMT, rc, "SQLAllocStmt", FALSE) < 0) return(-1);
return (1);
} /* SetupODBC */
iam getting the return code for SQLConnect as -1.
Thanks in advance.Thanks for the reply.
//syntax means comments.
chk the following code.
int SetupODBC(void)
char *DataSource = "polite";
char UserId = "system", Password = "manager";
if ( SQLAllocEnv(&Henv) < 0 )
return -1;
if ( SQLAllocConnect(Henv, &Hdbc) < 0 )
return -1;
if ( SQLConnect(Hdbc, (unsigned char *)DataSource, SQL_NTS,
(unsigned char *)UserId, SQL_NTS,
(unsigned char *)Password, SQL_NTS) < 0 )
return -1;
if (SQLAllocStmt(Hdbc, &Hstmt) < 0 )
return -1;
return (0);
As said earlier there is a problem in SQLConnect. It is returning -1.
But the code should return 0 if successfully connected.
The info regarding the arguments used in the above methods:

HDBC Hdbc; /* Handle to ODBC Connection object */

you should mount and then open the database
if you are using spfile
then issue
SQL>startup
database mounted.
database opened.
or
SQL> startup nomount pfile='location'
database will be in nomount stage
SQL>alter database mount;
database mounted.
SQL>alter database open;
then you can issue your command..

Failover not working while connecting to Oracle 11g database
Hi,
We have a J2EE application that connects to Oracle 11g database.
The connection URL we are using is as below
jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION =(SDU=32768)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=abc.hostname.com)(PORT=1525))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST= xyz.hostname.com)(PORT=1525))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=PQR)))
The issue that we are facing is, the database failover is not working.The application only connects to the first host in the TNS entry.Evertime there is a failure in the connection to the first host,manual steps are required to swap the hosts.
This started happening after we upgraded Oracle DB from 9i to 11g.
We are using the client jar of 9i to connect to 11g. Could this be causing the problem?
Thanks In Advance.
-Tara889517 wrote:
Yes, you are right. Nothing else was updated.
The application still works as expected except the failover.If you are correct then I seriously doubt it has anything to do with java. It would be something to do with Oracle and/or network infrastructure.
If not then it is some small problem with the driver. You can try updating the driver but I wouldn't expect a fix. -
Problem while Connecting with oracle thin driver

I am trying to acheive the connection using the following piece of code
Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@THIRU:1521:ORCL",
"scott", "tiger");
The problem lies in that piece of code only,
In the TNSNAMES.ora the entries are as follows.
THIRU =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Thiru)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = thiru)
EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = PLSExtProc)
(PRESENTATION = RO)
How to solve this one. Can anybody tell me how to provide the proper url.
thanks in advanceYou were very close.
"Thiru" as opposed to "THIRU" should be the name of the machine running the database, but that would imply that the DNS lookups are case sensitive, and we know that's not the case.
My guess, because the network adapter itself is reporting an error, is that "Thiru" evaluates to an IP address that isn't correct, that is, it's trying to make a connection to a specific address and getting nothing back in return.
Anyway, I think your program(s) are just fine, and your network is misconfigured. Incidently, it is always a good idea in cases like this to use the full name of the machine, for example...
...getConnection( "jdbc:oracle:thin:@thiru.maran1977.com:1521:ORCL"...
and in the database configuration itself...
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = thiru.maran1977.com)(PORT = 1521))
You may also use the IP address if you wish. -

Cannot connect to Oracle 11gR2 database from SQL Server 2005
Both SQL Server (Windows) and Oracle (Linux) are in 64bit environments.
I have done the following on a Windows 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2005:
Install InstantClient from Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Client (11.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64) to C:\Oracle
Install oledb from 64-bit ODAC 11.2 Release 3 (11.2.0.2.1) for Windows x64 by executing install.bat oledb c:\oracle odac
Note: Not sure whether 11.2.0.2.1 version of ODAC will cause any problem since I cannot find 11.2.0.1.0 version.
I have checked the Allow inprocess of OraOLEDB.Oracle provider in SSMS.
I have executed sp_addlinkedserver @server = 'ORACLE_TEST', @srvproduct = 'Oracle', @provider = 'OraOLEDB.Oracle', @datasrc = '##.##.##.##:1521/TEST'
The ##.##.##.## is the ip address of the Linux server which has the Oracle 11gR2 database TEST.
I have executed sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname = 'ORACLE_TEST', @useself = 'FALSE', @rmtuser = 'xxxx', @rmtpassword = 'yyyy'
The xxxx is the oracle username and yyyy is the password for the oracle user xxxx.
I know the oracle database TEST is up since I have setup connection in Oracle SQL Developer having:
##.##.##.## as the hostname
1521 as the Port
xxxx as the username
yyyy as the password
TEST as the service name
When I click Test Connection for the linked server ORACLE_TEST in SSMS, it just hang.
When I issue a query like select count(*) from oracle_test..xxxx.table1, it just run forever. I'm not so sure how to query an oracle table. I have also tried select count(*) from oracle_test.xxxx.xxxx.table1.
When I retype the password in the Linked Server Properties, it just run forever.
Do I need to create a tnsnames.ora on the Windows machine?
Do I need to change the tnsnames.ora on Linux machine?
I'm very new to Oracle.This forum is dealing with connections from an Oracle database to SQL Server - so the Oracle database is the driving site and this is the way round from your linked server set up.
As you're suing the instant client you might post your issue in the instant client forum:

Connection between Oracle 9i and MS Sql Server 2005
Hey Guys,
I am hoping to create materialized view of data on a small sql server box using our oralce 9i cluster. Anyway, i have done this with mysql using the standard odbc dirvers and a dblink, but i am having trouble finding an odbc driver for the connection from oracle to sql server. So, i was wondering if you guys know of a free, or cheap odbc driver, or have a suggestion of an alternative connection method.
PS: i have see: Heterogeneous Services Agents and Transparent gateways floating around, so are these options that don't need the odbc drivers and are free?
Thanks in advanceSome links

But you have to remember one big thing - I've not seen yet one compare that was completely indifferent to any of the included DB's. So you can be sure that every doc that you get on MS website will say that SQL server is better, every doc on Oracle website will say that Oracle is better. Every doc on other websites will say that better DB either is:
1) DB that has payed for the reserach paper
2) DB that was mostly used by the researchers
So of course you should be very cautious about each paper you get.
