Hard disk moved to new machine, license no longer accepted

I installed CS4 to my Macbook and activated it no problem. A few weeks later the Macbook was trashed due to spillage onto the keyboard. The good news is that it was covered by insurance, and also the hard disk was not affected. So I bought an identical replacement and moved the hard disk from the old one into the new one to save reinstalling everything etc.
That has worked fine for everything except... now when I start up any of the CS4 products, the license checking process quite reasonably detects that this is not the same machine as it was originally installed on and tells me it's not licensed. Of course, I can't deactivate the license on the original machine as it's dead. Is there any way I can sort this out, or do I need to contact Adobe?

I had a problem:
First Customer Service representative kept repeating instructions to Deactivate product from Windows Programs Control Panel Menu (I then asked to be transfered to someone who could help me with my situation), then she hung up on me.
Second Customer Service Rep transfered me to Technical Support where I waited 3 hours before hanging up.  I was finally actually able to have this handled the third time.
I was thoroughly disatisfied with my experience with Adobe.

  • Recently upgraded Mac 24" to Lion (clean install) and now no external hard disks work with Time Machine

Recently upgraded Mac 24" to Lion (clean install) and now no external hard disks work with Time Machine.
installed new internal disk first with fresh 10.7.3 Lion software. Also upgrade ram to 4GB. Work great, super fast.
BUT.... my WD 1TB firewire400 external disks no longer work with the Lion enabled machine now.
FURTHER... I read somewhere that WD is problematic with Lion but Seagate was not... so I went and bought a new 3TB Seagate GoFlex.
When it didnt work properly either, I patiently searched and found a software/firward upgrade and applied.
    I re-partitioned disk to extened/journaled standard, etc.
Then assigned the particition to Time Machine. Drive turned the blue/grey color, so I thought it would work.
But, it has now been in "preparing" mode in Time Machine for HOURS....
What is up Apple? So dissappointed. Ive read these type of problems are notorious with Lion and I wish I never upgraded.
Are you trying to make issues with External disks, to drive people to iCloud?  That trick ont work in me. I will not reward bad behaviour Apple.
Please provide a fix... I wasted hours/days screwing around with this, instead of using the Mac for what its intended!

Solved by Pondini, on another thread I opened...
    Answer:
    Sounds like either:
A directory problem on your internal HD.  Verify your internal HD, and Repair any other volumes being backed-up per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
Something in OSX may be damaged.  You've tried the "combo," so a fresh copy of OSX (that won't disturb anything else) would be worth a try (and you don't need a tech for that).  See Installing the ''combo'' update and/or Reinstalling OSX.

They should, yes.  You should have a full and complete backup as well, of course.

  • I cannot transfer music from my external hard drive to my new machine. Help!

I backed up all of my iTunes from my old computer to my external hard drive. When I went to transfer them to my new computer, they did not show up. They can only be accessed if the hard drive is connected.  I downloaded the iTunes version for Windows 7- the 64 bit version- on my new machine. Any ideas? Thanks! Also, anything new I have purchased and downloaded onto the new machine is fine. Just all the old stuff doesn't "stick." It's only about 3,000 songs. I'm sure it is something silly and simple, yeah?

Copying the files directly from a Time Machine backup may be possible but I don't recommend it. Your new hard disk is essentially a new computer to Time Machine, and it will have problems understanding where to put the individual files. What you're trying to do is just not the right way to go about it.
To restore from a Time Machine backup, boot Lion Recovery and select "Restore from Time Machine backup".

  • HT201250 if I used external hard disk for backup time machine, is it possible to use that external hard disk to save another else from diffrent computers?

If I used external hard disk for back up time machine, is it possible to use that external hard disk to save another else from diffrent computers?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can do this, but you should make a new volume on your external disk. Time Machine needs a volume that is only used to store backups, so you can't store other data in the same volume as the one you are using for making backups.
If you want to create another volume on your external disk, use Disk Utility to do this > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU3.html Anyway, you should get another external disk to store other files, but if you don't want to, you can create another volume in it

  • HT3275 Reuse Time Machine Backup after moving to new Machine

So I've been using TIme Machine for ages, and usually the restore are fine, but one thing has always bugged me:
When I restore (say for a new hard drive) or bought a new machine (in this case i got the Retina MBP)... and i turn on Time Machine again... I haven't been able to find a way to use the old backup disk on my Time Capsule.
Looking into the support info, I found this:
Message: Time Machine starts a new, full backup instead of a smaller incremental backup
There are three reasons why this may occur:
    You performed a full restore.
Your Computer Name (in Sharing preferences) was changed--when this happens, Time Machine will perform a full backup on its next scheduled backup time.
If you have had a hardware repair recently, contact the Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store that performed your repair. In the meantime, you can still browse and recover previous backups by right-clicking or Control-clicking the Time Machine Dock icon, and choosing "Browse Other Time Machine disks" from the contextual menu.
Reading that, I'm led to assume that's just one of the quirks and I can't do anything, and deleting Time Machine backups is quite a hassle as it is.
Is there really no way for my new Retina Macbook to use my old MBP time machine backup and just keep adding incremental data to it? It seems redundant then as say a week ago I deleted something... I actually have no way of getting to it now if I deleted the backup and started again. At the moment, my Time Capsule doesn't have enough space for a complete new one, so i'd HAVE to delete the old one.
Is there a way around this?
    Thanks.

My account name is the same in both systems.
The account name isn't what controls the permissions;  it's the automatically-assigned and mostly-invisible User ID number, also called a UID.  The first user account you create is number 501, the next 502, etc.  So if you ever had more than one user account, the one(s) you have now may be different.  See the pink box in Problems after using Migration Assistant for a detailed explanation.
You really can't change the permissions on Time Machine backups (that would kinda defeat the purpose).
Try creating another account, and see if it has permission to the backups.  If it does, you have a couple of options:
    * Copy everything now on your system to the new User Account you created above.  That's tedious and error-prone, but can be done.  See Transferring files from one User Account to another.
    * Your existing user account should be able to see and restore from new backups (done from the new drive).  When you need to view or restore things from the old backups, use the new account.  Eventually, as the older backups are deleted, the problem will fade away.

  • "Virtual Hard Disks" vs. 'Virtual Machines"

Under Hyper-V Manager, right-click HOST PC, select "Hyper-V" settings. Under Server is shown
Virtual Hard Disks (....path....) and  Virtual Machines (..path...)
What is the difference between those two options and why are seperate paths offered? (In the past I stored all VMs
in a folder called "C:\VM\<servname>" and this seemed to work fine.)
    TIA,
    barkingdog

These are just default paths for new files.  While some users keep all these files together - others like to have VHDs on a seperate disk to VM configurations.

  • I have Elements 6.0 on a an old machine which has now failed (motherboard issue).  How do I re-install it from the old hard drive onto a new machine?

Can anyone help me to re-install elements 6?  I have it sat on the hard drive of an old machine which has a motherboard failure.  I have the serial no, and I have a hard drive caddy.  What do I do?

Sorry I don’t know of any download links for PSE6. It may be worth thinking of upgrading to the latest version PSE13. It now has 64 bit support so you should see improved performance if your new machine has more than 4gb of memory (RAM)
The interface is different to PSE6 although most of the tools you are familiar with will work the same.
Why don’t you download the trial version from the link below and use it free for 30 days. If you are happy with it you can purchase from Adobe or any retailer or on-line store. No further installation is required; you simply enter your serial number to make the trial permanent. It’s a good way of ensuring a successful installation before making a commitment to purchase.

  • QuickTime movies cannot display properly, refresh doesn't work propely for html files on hard disk, opening a new tab doesn't work

    Hi!
I have tried Firefox V4 (but have since reused V3.6.16). The following problems were found:
    a. Cannot display the controls used for QuickTime movies.
    b. The refresh button doesn't function at all if the html files reside on the hard disk. I do this because I need to test the appearance of the web page before uploading to the server.
This problem also exists for v3.6.14 to v3.6.16
    c. When opening a new tab, it doesn't work. Instead, it will open another instance of the browser. By right, it has to open the web page on the same instance of the browser.
    This is my feedback.
    Thanks!!!!! :)

I had some advice to try recording QT audio and adding to the slide.  Now, when recording to Quicktime, it does embed it, but in recording the presentation, it either doubles up the audio giving a strange echo or does the same thing if you ever edit the presentation.
The problem Keynote has is that the sound and image content are not locked together which causes out of sync errors. This is why many users choose video editing applications when using sound in the presentations, as they have both image and audio tracks to sync sound properly together.
Start a new presentation to remove the previous sound recording, Keynote is holding onto the other sound files.
Add the graphic items to each slide and one sound file to each slide for the voice over
1 - In Inspector > Transitions;  use start transitions automatically and set each transitions delay to the duration of the individual sound file.
2 - In QT export, set Fixed Timing and delete the value in the duration box, QT will then use the custom timings for each individual slide.
This procedure does work exactly as needed, Iv used this for nearly 6 years using 4 different versions of Keynote.

  • Copy address book from old hard disk drive to new

I'm trying to transfer the address book from a hard disk drive (HDD) that crashed to the new HDD that has a fresh install of Leopard 10.5.8. I was able to transfer the contents of the old HDD to the new HDD, so all the files (old and new) are on the same, new HDD. I've tried was several people have suggested, which is to copy the folder "Address Book" from the location /Users/YOU/Library/Application Support/ on the old HDD to the same location on the new HDD, but only the 2 default users appear in the address book when I open it. Surely this cannot be that difficult. Any help is appreciated.

  • Upgrading hard disk in the new aluminum iMacs

Hi all. Is a hard disk upgrade on the new aluminum iMacs something that a seasoned computer geek can do by his/her-self at home? Will it void the Apple warranty if it's not done by a certified specialist?
I want to pick up a new 20" iMac, and I'm having a hard time deciding whether I need to get a big disk now or if I can upgrade at home, on my own, down the road.
I did some research (on this site) on upgrading the hard disk in the last rev of iMacs, and it looks pretty simple. I also noticed that, according to Apple, as long as you adhere to their procedure (only touch the brass colored screws!) you are well within your rights under the warranty to replace the hard disk.
I could not find out if this policy was the same for the new aluminum models. Does anyone have an answer? I don't NEED a 500 or 750GB internal hard disk right now... but I'm sure I will WANT one at some point not too far down the road.
    Thanks!

Apple can't legally "void" your warranty for just opening the cabinet. They can refuse to cover any damage you do -- but unrelated failures are still covered. Apple doesn't own the warranty -- you paid for it, and under US law, they are required to honor it.

  • New Machine: Application no longer exports Crystal Reports

I have a web application that was written in C#. We build and debug the application locally on Windows XP machines. Recently we got new machines, which were loaded with XP, but now with service pack 3 instead of service pack 2.
On the new machine, I installed the web application from VSS and it is working quite well.
The only problem is, Crystal Reports will not export on this new machine. What am I missing?
The error I get when I try to export the reports is:
Error in File C:\directory\reportname.rpt: Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters.
Keep in mind that the application runs fine on the old machine, reports and all. I have searched and searched for a solution to this problem to no avail.
The error is thrown on this line:
    rClass.FormatEngine.ExportToStream(req);
I went so far as to give 'Everyone' full control over the entire file system on the machine to see if there was a permissions issue, but that didn't work at all.
Funny thing is, when I add:
    oRpt.SetDatabaseLogon("username", "password");
the report exports without a hitch. We don't have that line of code in the application on our other machines and the reports export just fine.
    PLEASE HELP! Many thanks.

Crystal Reports has a 3 concurrent processing licenses. Basically it can process 3 users reports simultaneously the other users will be queued until one of the concurrent licenses are released or time-out hit. Now this is different then the job limit there is also a maximum number of print jobs; a print job is not equal to a Processing license. A report with a single subreport in the report header will take two print jobs to run. More subreports or subreports in a repeating section will require more jobs to run the report.
Depending on the complexity of the reports you can get anywhere from 3 (for really complex long running reports) to upwards of 20 (for really light reports) users running reports through a web application. If you are going to be server much more then 20 users I would suggest moving to a Report Application Server (RAS) based application.
Technically a web application that does not close and dispose the report object that runs a report with no database connectivity and only a single text box that reads "hello world" could serve your max print job limit, but would only run 3 users at a time. However this is pretty rarely the case.
So upping your max print jobs from 75 to 1000 may not do anything but create more load on the system (more jobs kept alive) draining resources and slowing the processing jobs down.

  • I have a older model mac pro that I purchased too replace a broken one. I installed my original hard drive in the new machine and would like to link the two together how do I do this?

How to connect two hard drives in my mac pro

Hi, not sure what you mean by link them together!
You could RAID them int one bigger drive, (JBOD), or RAID0 them for twice the speed, or RAID1 them for automatic mirroring backup, but that requires erasing both drives & losing everything on them now.
There are other ways like moving iPhoto, iTunes, etc. to the second drive to make more space on the boot drive.

  • Why is our CS6 Site License no longer accepted when setting up new iMacs?

I'm setting up 11 new iMacs in our lab and our CS6 Site License installs just fine as I have done in the past on many school owned computers across campus. However, when you launch one of the apps, such as PS, a CC splash screen comes up requiring me to enter the correct license number - which was previously accepted at the start of the installation process. After I enter the license, another message pops up and says "The serial number you entered is invalid. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact Customer Support.  When I pose the question above in the CS windows, it claims there are no answers to this question.  We have courses that start in a few days and I need this lab working NOW. Whwy is our valid license code no longer valid? We paid a kingly sum for that CS6 Site license. Anyone have some answers?
