Hardware Config for MI server!

Hi All,
I need information regarding the hardware configuration for the MI server which should deploy SAP Netweaver Mobile 7.1 and support xMAU 3.0 SP5.
Can anyone throw some light on this.
Thanks in advance!

  • Recommended Hardware Config for huge OLAP Cube build

    Hi David ,
Can you please provide the recommended hardware config for cube having billions of data under fact table . We ran a cube with 0.1 billion of data took around 7 hours to process. What could be the key areas to gain the performance benefit ? ansd also what could be the CPU , RAM (server) , RAM (Oracle DB) to gain much more perf benefit in such configurations ?
Also we have 32 bit windows 2003 server .Can we get better result if we switch to 64 bit ?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi!
Well, I would definitely recommend you to proceed with a consultant because I feel that you have some lack of methodology and experience together with time constraints for your project.
Regarding hardware, unfortunately, I would not be able to give you any precise figures because I have no supporting information. What you should bear in mind that your system must be balanced. You (better with consultant) need to find a right balance between all the factors you consider as important while building a pile of hardware:
    - cost
    - architecture
    - speed
    - availability
    - load scenarios
    etc...
Regarding architecture point bear in mind that today finding right balance between processing power and storage processing capacity is a challenge. Put attention to this.

  • Hardware recommendations for Oracle server

I'm looking for hardware recommendations for a new Oracle database server. I'd like to have Active/Passive redundancy, so I imagine an external storage device is necessary. Does Oracle publish any hardware recommendations based on budget? I'm not sure what our budget would be but I can assume two database servers and a single external storage device in the $20k range.

Oracle does not publish any recommendations at all.
If they did, the recommendations would be based on load and expected performance characteristics, not based on budget.
Your best bet is to chose a vendor (Sun, IBM, HP, Dell) and ask them. Each of those vendors has a group that specializes in answering this kind of question.

  • Care to share your server/hardware config for Spatial?

Hi there - we're in the early stages of planning for a new spatial system (geocoding a large volume of existing address data), and we'd like to get a sense of what different organisations might be using by way of server architecture for a high-availability, large volume dataset GIS where your typical spatial query is a within-polygon or buffer-type search of geocoded address data, and you might need to support several thousand of these per hour... (for example).
Would you share your platform/CPU/OS/memory/storage config comments as they relate to a dedicated Oracle Spatial 10g DBMS?
Or perhaps just suggest what you had to do in addition to the baseline 10gDBMS requirements to give Spatial room to perform well...
Any comments are accepted with humble thanks.
    Kind regards
    Dennis

    Dennis,
Several thousand, say 3000 per hour is less than one a second. I'm not sure how much data you have (define large), but in general I'd try to keep all, or most of the data in RAM to get the best performance possible. A Linux box with say, 512GB of RAM is entirely resonable to use. If your seach patter is geographicly time sensitive (moves based on time of day), you could also effectively use partition prunning to reduce the amount of data to be searched.
This is will give you a single, fast, db. For HA you need at least two, depending on what you define HA as.

My best guess for an optimal hardware platform at this point is the

Intel box with 256 mb RAM, 10 GB disk with a 800 MHz processor.
Would appreciate any feedback on whether I'm over or under the target fora

  • Minimum hardware requirement for Report server with 4 engines ??

    Hello all ,
Can someone please tell what is the minimun Hardware requirement to be able to run a Oracle 91 AS with report server having 4 engines ??
and where I can find this kind of documentation.
We have a Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE running on a machine with under 1 ghz power and around 300 mb RAM
, but the report server seems to keep crashing ..
    Can anyone pls advice
    Thanks

    Hi,
For calculating the minimum hardware requirements, you may need to look at various factors:
    1. No of reports requests that need to be processed per second
    2. Whether all these requests are synchronous or asynchronous
    3. Response time required
    4. Type of reports - large amounts of data, large no of images, etc
    5. How much caching you are using
    6. No of queries in your report
    7. Simple / complex layout of the report
    and so on.
So just the information of 4 engines may not be sufficient for trying to calculate the hardware requirements. One useful reference point for you may be the Oracle9i Reports Scalability whitepaper:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/index.html
It lists the number of users supported on some pre-defined hardware configurations, and the average response time for the reports server.
You might also want to take a look at the paper on "Tuning Oracle Reports":
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/search.html?cat=SAP&col=ALC&submit=Search
However, it is also possible that your Reports Server is crashing due to some other problem (not the hardware configuration).
By the way, your RAM seems to be too low for Oracle9iAS installation. See the installation guide for minimum hardware requirements.
    Navneet.

  • Config for BIG server (Solaris)

Our app is currently running pretty well on 2-cpu NT servers. But we need
more performance to support more users on one instance of WL (clustering
isn't yet an option), so we are trying a Big Solaris server. We're looking
for any pointers on how to configure WebLogic/JVM for a big server, esp.
Solaris. I've read over some of the Sun docs but am still not sure.
    Server: 8-processor, 6G memory, Solaris 2.7, JDK 1.3.0_03, WL 5.1 sp9
Heap size: should we set -Xms -Xmx=4.5G on this box?? (was 780M on 1G NT)
Most things say to set the heap "large" but too big can cause problems.
What's as big as possible with 8 processors?
#execute threads: should we multiply because of the number of processors?
We had been using 30 on 2-processor NT - should we now use like 100?
There's some other JVM params that we may play with as well, including the
HotSpot options that are listed on the WL site. Should we set -XX:NewSize
    (and Max) = 128M, 256M, higher?
Additional info: our application has many EJBs (Entity and Stateless
Session) being accessed by client applets and JSPs. Our total number of
users will be in the hundreds, even under heavy loads, but they cause a lot
of activity in the server. Any advice on these and other parameters is
    appreciated.

Yes, I think 2GB memory for one JVM would be too much even with eight CPUs.
In most cases, I woud use 512m per instance, but I am sure there are several
good folks in this news group using more than that. They can share their
    experience.

So even with 8 processors, you think 2G is too big? We've initially
configured the JDK to use incremental garbage collection so that wewouldn't
see large pauses, though I'm not sure how much of a performance hit wetake
for that (I suppose we should try to benchmark it)
We've got 6G on this box so I hate not to use it, but if others have seen
this not work, then we'll try a smaller heap size (1G?) However, a doc on
the Sun site says these two things: "Unless you have problems with pauses,
try granting as much memory as possible to the JVM." "Be sure to increase
the memory as you increase the number of processors, since allocation canbe
parallelized, but GC is not parallel." I guess we should monitor GC times
at 2G to see how it's doing.

You really don't want to make your heap so large. This is a very bad idea.
When the system garbage collects, it will have to go through gigabytes of
memory and your server will stop. Making your heap size too large is justas
bad as making it too small.
"Deyan D. Bektchiev" <[email protected]> wrote in message

    Joe,
Your first problem would be memmory since 1.3.0 has a limitation of 2GB
    of
    heap
per JVM (its actualy a little bit less 2010k worked for us) so you might
consider running more than one instance if memory would be a problem.
    I'm
    not
sure if they've lifted that to 4GB in 1.3.1 but it is going to be for
    sure
    for
    1.4.0.
The number of execute threads solely depends on your application since
    if
    you
have a lot of I/O then you'd want to increase the number of executethreads
while if you are mainly using CPU cycles and most threads do not block
    you
    might
consider even reducing the number of execute threads.
Best way to find out what is best for you -- benchmark it.

  • What's a decent hardware config for photo/video editing ?

I apologize if this has been asked a million times before, but I'm a newcomer. I'm seriously thinking of making the switch from the dark side and buying my first Mac - the iMac 20". My main priorities will be photo editing of both jPEG and RAW images from my Nikon D50 and ( at last ) editing all those video tapes I made of the kids and family vacations over the last 15 years. I'm not a professional photographer or videographer, but I don't want my next machine to be underpowered and cause me to get frustrated while waiting for it to do the the work and therefore loose interest. I'm kind of a hardware geek, so my philosophy is slanted towards more is better - more disk space, more RAM, yada yada yada. From what I've read on forums and at dpreview website, a lot of people recommend more system RAM, so I'm condfident 2 GB of system RAM is a good place to start. However, I haven't seen much talk about 128 vs 256 MB of RAM on the video cards. That's a no brainer for gaming -my son has a PC with 256 MB on a Gforce 7600 and he's happy with the performance, at least until the next generation of games comes out. However,I don't want to confuse the needs of gaming with that of video/photo editing.
Is there a benefit to upgrading the graphics card to 256 MB ? In the near future, I would like to buy additional software, like Aperture, Nikon's Capture NX, or Final Cut.
I realize that upgrading the video memory by the user is not easy on the iMac, so any hardware items that I would like to upgrade should be done at time of ordering from Apple through the Apple Store.
Thanks much, and looking forwarding to a new Mac soon.
    Bill

If you plan to use final cut I would strongly suggest the graphics card upgrade to 256. 2 gigs of ram will be good. This varies from person to person but the processor upgrade could be usefull but it does cost a lot.

  • Hardware Requirement for SQL Server 2012 Cluster

    Hi All,
We are going to share System Requirement document with the customer and one of the technical staff from Customer has request us to provide Microsoft Disk space requirement at least for below 2 section and why?
Quorum & MSDTC (Both will be SAN and what will be their RAID type)
    Please share your advice.
    Regards, Sachin

    Hello,
The quorum disk needs only to have a few MB to hold the file used for arbitration. Normally if you're needing a disk vote, it can be extremely small (100MB or less is what most SANs can do, some can only do 1 GB or greater). The actual file size is a few
    KBs.
MSDTC holds the DTC logs, so this will be sized to how much logging and usage of MSDTC is needed and used. If you're not using distributed transactions then it doesn't even need setup.

  • Hardware Requirements for OC4J and Oracle DB

    Hi,
I'm looking for some information about hardware requirements for a server that will run a Oracle DB and OC4J. It will be used for training purpose (about 10 people) and for running small apps using ADF.
Does anybody knows how much hardware I need?
Is there any documents from Oracle for hardware requirements?
    Any help appreciated. Thanks

    Greetings,
We routinely develop and test on a Dell Vostro laptop with OS Windows XP and 4GB RAM. The key is to either run the Oracle db in a VM (10.2.0.1) with at least 0.5 GB RAM for the VM or use the XE db. I personally prefer the XE db as it is lightweight and easily configured or uninstalled. As far as oc4j is concerned, a lot can be done to improve the efficiency by modifying the oc4j.cmd file in driveletter:/oc4j/bin:
set JVMARGS=-Xmx512m -XX:-UseGCOverheadLimit -server -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Dclass.load.trace=class-not-found -Dclass.load.log.level=finestThe JVM args settings are fully explained at:
