Hardware information thru Java prog
Can anybody provide me the information about how in Java one can retreive information regarding Hard disk serial number, free space, total space of hard disk etc through Java programming. It is possible in Visual Basic and I am sure there must be some method to get this info in Java.
I would also like to know various other utilities/methods thru which one can communicate with system hardware
To access hardware you must to use native methods ie your java application must to invoke some native library (DLL's in Windows) because this issue is OS dependent. There is an Java API specially dealing with this topic: JNI (Java Native Interface).

Returning CGI variables thru java
I am trying to check the cgi environment variables on my application server 10.1.2. I am unable to get any of the ssl variables at all. I can run /cgi-bin/printenv and see all the variables. However I am unable to get them out thru java. I dont know if I am missing something in the configuration of the server or not. I have it set up to run SSL and SSLVerifyClient so the clients have to provide a valid certificate. I need to grab the information off of that certificate to authorize their access. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
We did figure it out. We needed to make the following changes in our 10.1.3 environment. It should be similar in the 10.1.2 environment.

Can anybody help me out if i need to know how to get the hardware informations? and also that if i need to know if there is any network card present in the system or not and if it is present then what is the MAC address of that network card? Also, if it is possible to know how many processors are present and to get the processor ids from each processor, and how much RAM is present? I would appreciate if someone can help me out in this that what API and what procedure i have to follow? and if any working example can be available it is much appreciated, thanks

You can't access detailed hardware specific information, without writing native C++ code and calling it via JNI...
some things you can do, in Java are
1.call java.net.InetAddress.getLocalHost() to get the pc's IP address
2. processors... I saw some Java environment variables that might give this...
On WinNT there's an environement variable NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS
pass this to java via
java -DprocNum=%NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS%
then use
System procNumStr = System.getProperty ( "procNum" );
3. RAM - no, Runtime.totalMemory() only gives the maximum heap space allocated to Java.

Try these in order:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -

Creating XML file in Project folder thru Java Program

i need one help. i need to create XML file in web://<Project Folder> in xmII thru Java Program. i created one java code and i am able to access XML file that is in c drive. i created jar file for this and placed as action block in Transaction and this working fine. but problem arises when i give file path in java code as web://<folder name>/file.xml which is in Web folder of project in xMII.
How to access the file that is inside web folder from java code.

you can address the files that inside the MII workbench are viewed as "web://..." like this:
http://<server>:<port>/XMII/CM/<Project>/<Folder>/<Filename>
The workbench helps you find the correct filename:
- open the WEB tab in the workbench
- right-click on the filename
- select "Copy Link" from the pop up
Now you have the correct link in your clipboard.You can use the "web://" only inside MII.

In C I use fgetpos and fsetpos.

This is a great class - you can get the file pointer (getFilePointer()), and set it (seek(long pos) )
that will do all you need I presume - works the same a file handle in C.

I'm striving to format floppy disk from a java prog.
format, like many other commands/applications, sends some messages back to the terminal and waits for user input. I need to handle communication with such programs.

I'd suggest googling for a workaround.
Re: the second item, I think another thread makes sense. Perhaps a thread that reads all the error output and stores it in a buffer, which could then be queried.
