Has anyone setup a Canon PIXMA MP500 Photo All-in-One with Airport Extreme

Hi,
This printer is fairly well rated but I don't know if its compatible with Airport Extreme and 10.4, and if so how difficult was the set up.
Also, if you can suggest a multifunction printer that works well with Airport Extreme and 10.4, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
MK

First, Only printing works for multifunctions connected to Airport Extreme/Express.

  • Canon Pixma MP500 Printer won't print with MacBook Pro

I just bought a brand new MacBook Pro to replace an older PowerBook G4 laptop. I have a relatively new printer - maybe one year old - a Pixma MP500 from Canon that worked fine with the old laptop. I can't seem to get it to work with the new MacBook. I can use it as a scanner no problem with the new laptop, but not as a printer. I installed the software from the original Canon CD, but when I go to "add printer" MP500 shows up in the list as a USB printer but won't add. When I try to add it I get a -9672 error. Anyone out there with any idea what to do?

Hi, I actually did tried doing exactly that (should have mentioned it in my first email) and just tried it once more for good measure, but I still get the error message when I go to add the printer. So, MP500 shows up in my printer name list, with USB as the connection type, and print using shows Canon IJ Printer, but when I go to add I get "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Error: -9672". Help!

  • [SOLVED] CUPS does not list Canon PIXMA MP500 printer in Add Printer

I'm finally getting Arch up on my desktop (second time I've fooled around with Arch seriously) and it's been going smoothly so far.  I've hit a roadblock when trying to get my printer (multipurpose Canon PIXMA MP500) set up with CUPS.  I've followed the wiki directions on CUPS and "CUPS printer-specific problems" to get it installed.  dmesg gives me information saying it's plugged in via USB, and the scanner on the printer works with sane/xsane with no additional configuration.  However, CUPS isn't displaying the printer in the Add Printer dialog on the web interface after I've logged in as root; it's giving me Serial Port #1, Serial Port #1, and CUPS-PDF.
I can't find information about an MP500-specific driver, and I don't know if using the MP540 driver is what I need.  I'm stumped with this; has anyone tried to install this printer before, or gotten it to work?  Thanks!

Success!  I got CUPS to recognize my printer by using cups-usblp and removing usblp from the blacklist.  The printer now shows in the add printer dialog on the web interface.  I originally had an error "Add Printer Canon_MP500 Error (Unable to get list of printer drivers: Unknown)" when adding the printer; however, after installing the most recent cnijfilter-common from the AUR and a good reboot, I was able to add the printer and select a driver "Canon PIXMA MP500 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7", and it works!
    Marking this thread as solved.

  • Trouble installing canon pixma mp500--please help!

I have OS X 10.4.11 (that's tiger, I think), and I cannot figure out how to connect my Canon Pixma MP500. This printer model is not one the computer automatically knows how to connect to, so I installed the printer driver. I first installed it through the CD ROM that came with the printer, then when I had no luck with that I went to the Canon website and downloaded the most recent driver file for the printer. Both times, it seemed as though it would work, because: the files loaded onto the computer without problem; the printer browser window lists the MP500 as a possible printer to add; in the "print using" box, it lists "Canon IJ Printer" as an option (which it did not give as an option prior to downloading the printer driver). Yet, when I click "Add," it thinks for a few minutes then gives me an error message saying there was a problem trying to add the printer (error code -9672). I have not been able to find anything helpful from the Canon support website.
All I can say is "arg"! I have definitely reached the end of my problem-solving capabilities.

You can delete those three .pkg files from the Receipts folder. The following instructions are for removing an HP driver, but the steps can apply to the Canon driver as well. I've substituted Canon for the older HP references that originally appeared. I did not create these instructions. They were posted some time ago by another user in a different forum. (In a galaxy far, far away.)
These steps will delete the necessary files to be able to install the software package to your operating system.
    Resolution:
Deleting the Current driver (drivers) and preferences:
    1. Save all work and close all applications.
    • Open the Macintosh Hard Drive.
    • Open the Library folder on the Macintosh Hard Drive
    • Open the Printers folder in the Library folder
    • Open the Canon folder in the Library folder.
    • In the Canon folder there should be a Pixma or MP500 folder. Drag this folder to the trashcan.
Note: There is no need to empty the trash after this step.
    2. Close all windows that are open at this time and reopen the Macintosh Hard Drive.
    • Open the Users folder on the Macintosh Hard Drive.
    • Open your user file in the Users folder. The one with the little house beside it.
    • In the Little House there should be another Library folder. Open this folder.
    • Open the Preferences folder that is located in this Library folder.
    • In the Preferences folder locate all the files that start with com.apple.print. and drag them into the trash.
WARNING: This will delete all your printing preferences for all printers.
    3. Close down all the windows that you have open.
    Install the downloaded Driver.
    4. Once the driver is completely downloaded to your computer, double click on the file.
    • It will mount the disk image and open a window with the installer in it. Double click on the installer in the new window
    • Enter an Administrator name and password for the installer and click continue.
    • Click continue on the opening page for the HP Inkjet Installer
    • Read the license agreement and click Accept to continue.
    • Click Continue to the Read Me file.
    • Select Easy Install from the drop down menu in the top left corner and click the install button.
    • When the installer is finished click Quit.
Adding the Printer to the Printer Setup Utility
    5. Open the Printer Setup Utility if it was not automatically opened by the Inkjet installer
    • Open the Macintosh Hard Drive. Open the Applications Folder. Open the Utilities folder. Double click on the Printer Setup Utility
    • Delete any existing Canon MP500 series printers that may have been added automatically by the Operating System. Click on the name of the printer and click the Delete button in between the Add button and the Utility button at the top of the current window.
    • Add the printer to the Printer Setup Utility by clicking the Add button at the top of the current window.
    • Select USB from the drop down box at the top of window. NOTE: For the 5850 you will want to select rendezvous or hp IP printing if it is connected through one of it's network connections.
    • Wait until the system prompts you to reload the browser, due to knew printer drivers being detected. Click OK to reload the browser.
    • Click the Canon MP500 printer from the box below. Then click the Add button at the bottom of the page.
These instructions were written for Panther, so some steps may be different in Tiger, but the general process should be about the same.

How do I get my canon pixma ip100 photo printer to print  two pages from my iPad mini? Iam new with the computer terms & stuff, can any one please help me hook it up in easy terms...thankyou

You would have to either use an app from Canon if they have one or use a 3rd party program such as Printopia, Print Central, Fingerprint, etc. That printer is not Airprint compatible.

I have a Canon Pixma MP500 scanner printer, is there a driver that can be loaded that is compatible with OSX v10.9.4?

Thanks, PAHU, for providing the Australian site for the Canon driver.  I have an MP500 and it still seemed to print fine after I downloaded Yosemite.  However, as others have reported, the MP Navigator no longer performed normally in scanning. The "Save As" keys didn't align and therefore didn't work but one could still scan using an alternative method ("Scan with scanner driver" button).
In any case, my hard drive subsequently failed on this 2010 27" iMac and when it was replaced the tech installed Yosemite 10.10.1.  Just tried printing this evening and it wouldn't.  Advised I needed undefined "software." Got various error messages.  Went to Google and read this and downloaded that to no avail.  Tried the Gutenprint driver but it too didn't work. Latest error was "stopping job because the scheduler could not execute a filter."  Had no clue what that meant!  System info listing for the printer (under About this Mac, System Info) lacked any reference to permissions or a printer utility version (but I didn't notice or know significance of omissions).  Finally I downloaded from the Australian site, just the print driver 10.51.2.  The printer then printed!!!  (The MP Navigator scanner remains flawed but works by clicking "Scan with scanner driver" rather than the normal way.)  I'm holding my breath that things will continue to work.
Thanks again, PAHU, for your help, and Greg and Pam and Andy too!

  • Has anyone found a way to use the Epson Print Utility with an Airport?

I have an Epson Photo 2200 connected to the USB port of my Time Capsule. Everything has been working great until recently. Now I cannot use Epson Printer Utility unless I connect the printer directly to my Mac via the USB port. It does not find the printer. Connected directly, Epson Print Utility2 works properly. Epson Print Utility3 does not find the printer, even when connected directly. Reading the various discussion threads, I am not alone and the problem is with many, if not all of the Epson printers. The Utility worked fine at one time but appears to have quit working over the network probably around OS upgrade 10.5.2. In addition, you must use the Gutenprint driver when installing the printer. Epson's gives an error.
Has anyone found a way to use the Epson Print Utility with an Airport print server with OS 10.5.2 or later?

Before receiving this reply, I had other problems with the Gutenprint driver. I'm not sure what I did but after playing around for about a day, the Epson driver finally worked while connected through the USB port. The printer then worked with the Airport. The print utility still doesn't work without being directly connected. (It used to work while connected to the Airport. Until recently, I never connected the printer directly to a computer.)

  • Has anyone successfully connected an AEBS to the new Panasonic TVs with built-in WiFi?  If so, please describe the requirements and process.  Thanks.

Has anyone successfully connected an AEBS to the new Panasonic TVs with built-in WiFi?  If so, please describe the requirements and process.  (TV subscription is through DirecTV and ISP is TWC.)  Thanks.

If you wish to use the cellular capabilities of a device, you will need a SIM (unless the carrier uses CDMA which doesn't use SIMs) and you will have to pay a cell carrier. No cell company provides service for free. The only way you will get free Internet is via WiFi to a free and open WiFi access point, as sometimes is offered in public buildings or by some businesses.
    Regards.

I've posted this before and was recommended to phrase the question like this, has anyone been able to successfully use more than 8 cores with Logic?
If so or if not please specify what version of logic you have, what computer since only the new Mac Pro's have 16 virtual cores, and any other information or reference saying how to or how its not possible. This seems to be a question many users need to find out before upgrading to a new mac. Thanks!

  • Can't print with Airport Extreme and Canon MP610

Can anyone suggest a way around this?
I am unable to print using my new Canon MP610 multifunction printer when connected via my Airport Extreme, but I can print when connecting the printer to my computer directly, not using the Airport Extreme. After several hours of frustration, updating drivers and firmware, etc, I contacted Canon and received an email back stating:
    "MP610 is not supported by
Canon with a wireless connection through an Apple Airport. This does
not necessarily mean that it will not work, but we are not able to
    provide configuration and troubleshooting information."
Last summer, my daughter was able to use the same Extreme to print wirelessly using her Mac Book Pro and her Canon MP600 multifunction printer (note - different printer model).
Sounds like Canon isn't saying it won't work, but they cant' help.
If anyone can offer a suggestion to work around this, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Doug

The most comprehensive set of troubleshooting instructions for printing problems involving Airport printers is found at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107418
It is possible your printer simply cannot be made to work in this manner, and is more often than not a problem with multifunction printers.

  • Is anyone successfully using Netgear WN3000RP with Airport Extreme?

Got a brand new WN3000RP wifi range extender. I went through the installation several times myself and several times with tech support to no avail. Tech support told me to return it for a new one.
Everything is connected and the install process goes smoothly but I ultimately cannot ever use the extended network to connect to the Internet. I can see the range extender's mac address on the router but the two devices don't seem to talk to each other.
I'm just wondering if I'm going to have the same problem with a new one or not and wondering if it's even compatible with Airport Extreme routers.
I'm using Airport Utility version 6.1.
Can someone out there can let me know if they got this device working with their Airport Extreme?
Also, what are my other options to extend my range?

I know this answer is likely too late to help but it may help users in the future. In the situation where you are using a range extender there are a few things you need to confirm to make sure it is going to function properly and also some best practices to make sure your network is running smoothly.
    1. Is the range extender using the router for DHCP? I have found in my experience is that the router should "reserve" a MAC Address and IP for the the Range Extender. Most times it is 192.168.1.2. I would first set up the router to have the range extender have a set IP Address of 192.168.***.2 and add the MAC Address to the list so that the Range Extender has a Static IP Address in the private network.
    2. Initially set the range extender to have an SSID(Wireless Network Name) different than the Router's(Airport) SSID. This will allow you to determine if the Extender is functioning normally without it interfering with your existing network.
    3. At this point it is important to set the Range Extender DHCP. What this will do is let the range extender request IP Addresses, DNS(Domain Name Servers), and UPNP Requests. This is where I feel that a lot of people are having issues and assume that the router will still resolve DHCP. If the SSID and Wireless Channel are the same your network will work intermittently with internet access until it is configured correctly.
    4. For Devices that will stay on your network such as NAS(Network Storage), Smart TVs, Apple TVs I would recommend setting Static Private IP Addresses for each of them. Such as 192.168.1.3(NAS), 192.168.1.4(Apple TV), 192.168.5(Smart TV). Also if you enter the MAC Address for each device when you set this up it would be recommended.
    5. If devices are having issues connecting to internet or certain web services are having issues. It may be necessary to set the Extender(Which is now handling DHCP with IP, DNS, and UPNP passed through from the router) as the Gateway for which device may be having issues. For instance if the Apple TV is having issues communicating on the network(Air Play, Sharing, Streaming) set or configure the network settings manually on the Apple TV. The IP Address would be the one your reserved on your router. The Subnet Mask would likely be 255.255.255.0 by default unless you have changed the amount of potential "Hosts" on your network. The Gateway would be the IP Address of the Extender(Which is paired with your router). DNS servers should be handled automatically. In some situations with certain devices you may need to use a DNS Service for Streaming, but this generally isn't needed.
    A Visual Representation would be
ISP>Modem if needed>Router(DHCP Enabled and MAC Addresses Reserved)>Localized Devices<Range Extender(DHCP Enabled and Static IP Address 192.168.***.***)<Apple TV(Manually Configured IP Settings and Range Extender set as Gateway)<Other Devices Localized to Range Extender but not in range of Router(AirPort).
In this representation you should be able to have the router and range extender broadcast Identical SSID and Channels(Radio Frequency). This also allows for advanced settings to be put in place such as LAN networks or Subnets.
An issue that may come up is communicating with the range extender or router while setting up the network. A simple workaround that will allow you to configure either if the network doesn't let you connect on a MacBook is to go to System Preferences>Network>Wifi or Ethernet>Advanced>TCP/IP in configure IPv4>Set Using DHCP with Manual Address> Then IP Address that corresponds with your current network 192.168.***.*** but is not the same as the gateway, router, or reserved devices. This will allow you to connect and configure devices even if router or extender is not assigning IP addresses or operating properly.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

    Hi @starmih,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you are trying to setup your HP Officejet 4314 on Windows 7, and I am happy to help!
There is no official HP software for Windows 7, however you can use this guide, Installing the Printer Software in Windows 7 for a USB Cable Connection, to install the in-OS driver.
