Hatching columns & selecting data

Hello,
I have two questions:
1) I have drawn a chart in numbers '09 and instead of using a colour fill, or 'texture' fill, I want to use hatching because the chart is going to printed in a black and white publication. I can't find how to do hatching at all - does anyone know? I have Excel as well and they have stopped offering hatching for columns which is stupid because its used so often in publications - I hope someone can tell me that Apple haven't done the same!
2) My second question is about how to select data. In Excel you can select the data to use for the X and Y axis and also what data to use for the legends. In Numbers I don't seem to be able to get 'behind the scenes' and tell it how to use the data.

For your first question, you can create your own hatch patterns and use them. It is possible someone has made sets of these and you might be able to find some on the web. I have not searched recently so I don't know. Here is a post on the subject from a while ago and it has two hatch patterns in it (three if you make a mirror image of one of them).

  • Selecting data in forms from site column fields

    We are seeing some unusual actions when selecting data from site columns on the new item form.  Here's the context.
    2 lists are maintained at the Intranet level and designated as a site column.
    4 lists are maintained at a subsite level and are also designated as a site column.
    We created a list on the second tier subsite (third level) and added all 6 of the site columns to the list.
    When opening the new item to add an entry, some of the fields have a default value listed.  You only need to click your selection once to populate the field.  Some fields appear with (none) as the default value.  Other fields are blank and
    you have to double click your selection to populate the field.
    We have not edited the default forms in any way...they are straight out of the box.
    I'm assuming this has something to do with the setup on some of the lists, sites, or site columns, but haven't the foggiest as to what may be causing the issues.  All list settings I've thought to check are consistent with each other.  Any help
    would be greatly appreciated.

    robin, you are on to something with the 20 item question.  i created three lists with 19, 20, and 21 items respectively and then added 3 columns to my test library and attached to those lists.  when in internet explorer, 19 works perfect.  however,
    on the new item form, the fields for 20 and 21 are 3 times the length of the 19 field and do require a double click for entry.  when adding a new item in firefox, all three fields were single click entry.  is there someway to change this behavior?
    the mystery remains though on the default value.  in this test library and test columns, (none) shows up as the default value on the new item form for all fields regardless of the number of items in the list.  cameron, since these are lookup columns,
    the default value option disappeared on the column creation page.  is there another location where i need to select a default value?  or, hopefully not, do i need to copy over my data and delete/recreate the lists?  
    i know early on the creation of the lists were somewhat haphazard in that some users turned off required entry for the title field and skipped over it for data entry while others simply renamed the title field and entered data in it.  that may be more
    of a nit on my end, but wasn't sure if it might randomly have an impact.

  • In Numbers, how can i change only the year in a date formatted column of data?

    I'm using Numbers 3.5.2 on an iMac running Yosemite 10.10.2.
    This column is a listing of dates tied to info that needs to happen on a particular date each year. Rather than re-key all the dates so the year advances to 2015, it would be great if I could change just the year for the entire column, leaving the day and month intact.

    If you already have a column of dates, and just want change the year in the entire column, rather than reenter the dates,  then you could use a formula something like this:
    The formula in B2, copied down the column:
        =DATE(YEAR(A2)+1,MONTH(A2),DAY(A2))
    Then select the new column, command-c to copy, and Edit > Paste Formula Results. The original column can then be deleted.

    It would appear that you external table definition and the external data file data do not match up. Post a few input records so someone can duplicate the problem and determine the fix.

    if you have data in db then you can create xml with needed structure
    and so you can create bip report
    do you have errors or .... ?

  • How to create a dynamic RTF report which creates dynamic columns based on dynamic column selection from a table?

    Suppose I have table, whose structure changes frequently on daily basis.
    For eg. desc my_table gives you following column name on Day 1

For that I have defined a concurrent program with XML as output type and have attached a data template/data definition to it which takes in XML as input and gives final output of conc program in EXCEL layout. I am able to do this for constant number of columns, but dont know how to do it when the number of columns to be displayed changes dynamically.
    For Day 1 my XML file should be like this.

    Make the XML dynamic as in on Day 1 there must be 3 columns in the SELECT statement and on Day 2, 5 columns. I want to create one dynamic XML which should not be required to be changed if new columns are added in my_table. I dont know how to create this query and also create their corresponding elements below.
    Make the RTF template dyanamic as in Day1 there must 3 columns in EXCEL output and on Day 2, 5 columns. I want to create a Dynamic RTF template which would show all the columns selected in Dynamic XML.I dont know how the RTF will create new XML tags and how it will know where to place it in the report. Means, I can create RTF template on Day 1, by loading XML data for 3 columns and placing 3 XML tags in template. But how will it create and place tags for new columns on Day 2?
    Hope, you got my requirement, its a challenging one. Please let me know how I can implement the required solution using RTF dynamically without any manual intervention.

    I am able to fulfil above requirement. Now I am stuck at below point. Need your help!
    Is there any way to UPDATE the XML file attached to a Data Definition (XML Publisher > Data Definition) using a standard package or procedure call or may be an API from backend? I am creating an XML dynamically and I want to attach it to its Data Definition programmatically using SQL.
    Please let me know if there is any oracle functionality to do this.
    If not, please let me know the standard directories on application/database server where the XML files attached to Data Definitions are stored.
    For eg, /$APPL_TOP/ar/1.0/sql or something.

    Is it possiblo to reorder the column like in excel . I know its not possible bcoz it <table> tag ...

    Select the column within the table and in the property window uncheck the visible. You can also include visible="false" in the jsp page within the column tag.

  • Performance issue in selecting data from a view because of not in condition

    Hi experts,
    I have a requirement to select data in a view which is not available in a fact with certain join conditions. but the fact table contains 2 crore rows of data. so this view is not working at all. it is running for long time. im pasting query here. please help me to tune it. whole query except prior to not in is executing in 15 minutes. but when i add not in condition it is running for so many hours as the second table has millions of records.

    Also 'NOT IN' + nullable columns can be an expensive combination - and may not give the expected results. For example, compare these:

    I have the correct privileges on the directory, but the error seems to be on the EMPLOYER_NAME field. The file I try to upload is in pipe-delimited format. The last field in the file does not have a pipe-delimiter at the end. Can this be the problem? Must I go and look for any trailing spaces? Can I specify in the external table script how many characters I need for the employer_name field? We receive this file from an external company

    common mistake, you gave the field sizes in the
    column listing of the table, but not in the file
    definition. oracle does not apply one to the other.
    in the file defintion section, give explict field

  • How do you determine a column's data type?

    Let's say I have a DB Table out there and I have NO WAY of knowing that column 1 is a CHAR, column 2 is a SMALLINT or whatever. I can write sql to select * from table and see everything, but how do I know what each column's data type is?

  • File Count with selected date range

    Our requirement is to get the file count with selected date by the user from two sharepoint date time controls i.e. dtp1 and dtp2 into the data table. I am able to get the file count of specific folder from Pages library through below code. Now need to get
    the selected date range from two date time picker controls and check with the item created by is within the date range. If yes I need to get the file count.

  • Using menu ring to select data out of database with SQL

    I have a database setup with two tables and six columns of data. One of the columns contains an array of data. I would like to be able to read the data out with two ring controls. One ring to select the table and the other to select certain rows of data based on the value in one row. I want the data charts to update automatically inside a loop when the ring values are changed. I started by modifying the playback(fetching) example. The problem is when I change the menu item, I am not closing the first connection before opening a new one. Should I be using the running stored procedures with parameters method to accomplish this task?? I suppose all of the data could be read and then sorted out of the result.

    There are two possible solutions. If you are using LabVIEW 6.0.x, then you will need to put a while loop around all of your program and poll to see if the values of the ring controls have changed (can be done with a shift register). If nothing has changed, then have a case structure that does nothing. If the values have changed, then get the new data.
    If you are using LabVIEW 6.1, then you can check for a value changed event on the ring controls. Everything else from the 6.0.x version from above would be the same. This eliminates the polling which reduces processor use.

    We have a folder of name General in our site.
    i have two SharePoint date time controls on the user control.
    Now i need to get the number of page versions within the selected dates.
    I am able to get all the pages under the 'General' folder as below

    Within the foreach loop, check for specified date range and increase the count if it fine.

    SAP suggested us to disable COLUMN SELECTION I have tried the below code but still I am not able to get this done..
    Can you please suggest the appropriate method to achieve the same.
