Hate Location Services on my Camera

I absolutely never want to use the geo-tagging/location feature for my photos. I want to turn it off and yet because of the Location Services Setting also is tied to the map/gps services that I frequently need, I never can take a quick photo without having to answer the question with "no"--often missing my photo opp. I should be able to turn this off once and for all. It seems absurd that gps/mapping and camera settings are tied together. I have been a Mac user for years and this is one of the most frustrating poorly thought through features I have ever seen.

I'd send a feature request on how you would like it to work http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
I think geotagging will be very useful in future versions of iPhoto and Picassa with location search features but I would like to also like to see a "always allow or always deny" options.

    Hey jerzeyzfynest,
Unfortuantely, no -- Geek Squad Protection plans require that repairs be sought before a product is considered for replacement. This means your current laptop would only qualify for an exchange if one or more of the following conditions are met:
A factory-authorized technician has determined that repairs cannot be completed
A factory-authorized technician has determined that replacement parts cannot be obtained
The unit has accrued two previous qualifying repairs a factory-authorized technician has identified a third qualifying hardware failure
A detailed overview of this policy may be found in your plan documentation, as well as in the sample brochure available on the following site:
    http://bbyurl.us/TandC
If your current laptop hasn't been performing up to par, then I'd encourage you to speak with a technician at your local store when you have the chance to do so. Diagnostic services are included in your service plan coverage, so we'd be glad to help find out what's going on.

  • Are location services for the camera off by default in iOS 5?

A friend just bought an iPhone 4S and when he opened his Camera Roll after shooting a bunch of photos, Places did not show up. I asked him to check Settings and location services were turned OFF for his camera, but were ON for all other applications that use location services.
I found that location services for my camera were set to OFF today as well.
Is this the default for iOS 5? Or has it been the default for iOS from day one?
If so, why? You would think that the camera would be the one built-in feature you would want to use location services.

    Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services>Traffic>On...turn on/off here.
There is no supported way to downgrade the iOS.

  • How do you get apps into location services?

Location services only shows camera, siri, and weather. My wife's phone shows over 20 apps in location services, which I also have the same apps loaded on my phone, and they do not appear in my Location Services in Settings but they do in hers. This prevents Notifications on these apps.

What version of the operating system, iOS, have you got on the iPod and iPad (Settings > General > About > Version), and what minimum version do the apps require ? If, for example, the app needs iOS 5 but you only have version 4.3 on the iPod, then it won't download onto the iPod. Also some apps only work on the iPad (e.g. they need the iPad's larger screen) so they also won't download on an iPod. An app's requirements are listed on the left-hand side of their description page in the store.
I also assume that the device which the apps aren't downloading on is also connected to a network ?

  • My CAMERA, SAFARI apps have vanished. Can't turn Location Services "ON"

I have an iPhone 4S and the camera on it has vanished so I cannot take any pictures, use face time etc. also I'm unable to turn my "Locations Services" setting to "ON" for some reason!?. Please help

You're welcome.  Let's see what we can do. You mentioned you had location services turned on go back there and toggle the location services button on/off a couple of time and make sure maps is turned on. Then give it a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons until the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait until your iPad starts on it's own.
Checks maps, if it's still not working remove all restrictions.
I was going to recommend  reset all settings but you already did that.
Next I'd bring your and your Dad's iPads to the Apple Store to be checked out. Especially your Dads. A brand new iPad shouldn't be having this kind of problem.

  • Workaround to show pins when location services for camera was off.

The general location services were on but for the camera it was off. After I captured the pictures I do not see any pins in the places where I took the pictures. Is there a way how I can get the pins in the places?

If your camera location service is off then there is no way.
You need to switch location service on for your Camera app to have meta data included.
    Added:
Import photos to your Mac iPhoto then in Info mode use Assign a Place...

  • HT5467 iPhone iOS 6. What is the difference between, respective purposes, and functions of having both location services for photos vs camera

What is the difference and respective functions of turning on or off location services for "photos" and "camera" ?  I guess I don't see what purpose of having the option for photos location services in addition to the camera option?

    Thanks,
    one hypo:
If I always had location services off for the camera, while taking all my photos, then there should be no metadata embedded at all in the first place, so then the photos selection becomes redundant?

  • Bought a new router location services will not work hooked up old router location services came right back on

bought a new linksys router location services will not work on i-pad hooked old router back up and it started working again linksys was no help

WiFi iPads determine location through a database of router locations. Your new one is not in the database, give it some time and it will be added.

  • Can't turn on reminder at a location with location services restriction.

I think I may have found a bug, or at least unintended functionality.
I have an iPhone 4s with iOS 5.  When I turn on location restrictions (Settings > General > Restrictions > Location > Don't Allow Changes -- note that in this list Reminders is set to ON, which means that location services is ENABLED for this app), then create a new reminder in the reminders app, then try to have it remind me at a location, the "At a Location" switch is disabled, not allowing me to create a reminder with a geofence alert.
When I change the setting to "Allow Changes", the "At a location" switch in Reminders is re-enabled.
Interesting thing is that it works just fine if I create a reminder at a location using Siri.
I'd like to be able to keep the "Don't Allow Changes" restriction on as, if my phone is stolen, I don't want people to be able to turn off location services, thus blocking Find My iPhone.
Anyone else can reproduce/confirmt hat this is a bug?

Hate to burst your bubble here, but all a thief has to do is turn your phone off to defeat "Find My Phone". This is common knowledge. Once turned off, a quick restore in iTunes & then listed on eBay or Graigslist.

  • App asks to have location services turned on but App does not appear in location list.

I start the EZ Word Cheats and it starts with the menu open. I click on Quick Import and a blue box appears with the message to turn on Location services in settings. I start the settings app, click Privacy, click Location Services, but EZ Word Cheats does not appear in the list of Apps that can have Location Services turn on. Shutting the iPad off or resetting it does not help.

I reset location services in Setting>General>Reset>Reset Location & Privacy and that fixed the problem. I need not need to restore from new. When I ran EZ Word Cheats after the resetting location services and then clicked on the Quick import under the menu, a message came up asking access to Photos instead of location services. This is the correct behavior since the program does need access to my photos but does not need Location services.

  • Possible fix for problems with Location Services!!!!

Alright, I had just bought a brand new iPod Touch 5th Generation and was having trouble with any app that used Location services (Siri, Weather, Maps, etc) and it was driving me absolutely crazy. Now, I live in a very VERY rural area in Pennsylvania (basically the middle of nowhere) and my new iTouch kept saying "cannot determine location" no matter what app I was using that utilized Location Services. After 4-5 days straight of searching various websites looking for help (including this one), I came up completely empty handed and had pretty much given up on getting it to work correctly. Somewhere along the line, I found out about Skyhook Wireless and the process for adding my wireless network to their database. I thought to myself "What the heck? It can't hurt to at least try..." even after reading on multiple websites that Apple no longer works with Skyhook. So I gave it a shot,..
I went to the following website: http://skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/submit_ap.php
I entered my address into the first empty text field and then clicked the "MAP IT" button.
It deteremined where I was (pretty darn accurately if I say so myself) so I moved on and entered my Wireless Router's MAC Address in the corresponding field.
Then I entered my email address in the corresponding field, completed the CAPTCHA, and hit "SUBMIT".
I received an email a few moments later from Skyhook letting me know they had successfully received my submission and then I sat back for a few moments, crossing my fingers and hoping for the sake of my sanity that it had worked.
After about an hour or so, I tried to get my local weather using the Weather app that comes pre-installed on iOS. Still, it couldn't find my current location. the Maps app gave me the same result.
I sat here planning my next course of action and came up with...you guessed it....nothing!
I said screw it and went about my business for the day. A few days went by and I was visiting a very good friend of mine and I had my iTouch with me. Now my friend lives even further in the sticks than I do but for some unknown and shocking reason, my location services worked PERFECT at their house (every single app I tried that in one way or another used Location Services, it worked every time) so I asked my friend if it would be alright with them to go grab my wireless router and switch with them for a day or two, just as a last ditch effort for the sake of science and my own sanity. They said it wouldn't be a problem at all. So we traded wireless routers for a day or two.
Upon hooking their router up at my house and using the Weather & Maps apps, it still showed up that I was still at their house and showed the local weather for the town that was nearest to them. I was like "Hey, it's better than nothing!" so I left it go for a day or two.
Upon arriving at my friends house to grab my original router and give them back their original router, I checked my iTouch and, lo & behold, it showed my home as my current location and the correct local weather for the city/town closest to my home address, even though I was at their house. I felt so dumbfounded and almost cried because I had actually gotten it to work. I unhooked my original router, hooked my friend's back up, and it showed up that I was exactly where I was supposed to be - at my friend's house.
I brought my original router back to my house, hooked it up and Cha-CHING! It WORKED!!!!! It showed that I was at my house and showed the correct local weather.
And there you have it, How I was able to solve my location services woes.
I'm not saying it will help out everybody else's location service problems but it is worth a shot, it worked for me.
If this DOES help anyone else out, please reply so as to confirm that it wasn't just me that it works for.

Thank you @sberman for a fast replay, I read the article, but still it doesn't explain why it doesn't show at least that I'm in Europe, while my android phone, having set just wifi as location reference, shows my position at 1km accurately(I don't live in a city, that's why such a big radius) in Google Maps.I also saw the time zone, if I set it automatically, detection through wifi doesn't work, it just keeps refreshing.

  • Location Services and battery explanation!

Ok, so many of us are uncertain regarding leaving Location Services ON because of the battery life problem.
I will explain the issue here so there will be no more questions about this:
When enabling Location Services you authorize the usage of the GPS unit on your phone. Below the LS switch you will see other switches regarding the applications that were using the LS in the last 24H. So the question is: Does the LS drain battery when leaved ON but no apps are using it? The answer is NO!
When you use an application that has the option to get your location it will ask for your permission to use the Location Services, if you will deny it it will not use the GPS unit, and so no power will be given to the GPS to function. Try to think the Location Services as it's name says so: a Service: When an application needs GPS information, the service powers up the GPS unit, when no application needs the GPS it cuts the power off from the GPS unit.
Do not compare with the Bluetooth! When using bluetooth, to be always discoverable the BT chip needs to be powered up all the time.
Think this as a somehow "standby" mode, the Location Service is listening in the background for requests for the GPS unit, when needed it powers it up, when not it powers it down.
You shouldn't be noticing more than 1 or 2% drain because of this service being enabled, nothing noticeable.
So it's ok to leave the LS ON as long as the apps using it are not enabled to actively use the service.

Either one. When you see the white/purple arrow on the top, an application you are using has enabled Location Services for itself. While the app is running in either the foreground or background, LS continues to run until the app is either closed or has been force closed through the multitask bar.
LS only uses battery life when it either picks the GPS or the cellular towers to continuously ping your location. But the LS doesn't use as much power as believed. It's actually a combination of things such as GPS and Internet and Music or GPS, Internet and Camera.
Most people keep the LS running as it does little harm to battery life. Some turn it off or turn off certain apps to protect their privacy as they are broadcasting on a social network their approximate location such as LOOPT to friends that you are in a restaurant.

  • Location services and battery life

I see this from the Apple site regarding reducing power consumption:
"Minimize use of location services: Applications that actively use location services such as Maps may reduce battery life. To disable location services, go to Settings > General > Location Services or use location services only when needed."
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
I can read this advice two ways:
    1. Turn off Location Services in the Settings when not using Location Services. As long as Location Services is turned on in Settings, you are using more of the battery.
    or
    2. I can leave Location Services on in the Settings without reducing battery life. It is only when I use an application that uses Location Services that battery life is reduced.
    Which is it?

Either one. When you see the white/purple arrow on the top, an application you are using has enabled Location Services for itself. While the app is running in either the foreground or background, LS continues to run until the app is either closed or has been force closed through the multitask bar.
