Have a problem with my screen turning blue after exiting Safari or Firefox, what is going on?

Have been having an intermittent problem with my MacBook Pro running 10.6.8.
When either running Safari or Firefox the desktop will turn blue and i have to hard reboot in order to use my Mac again.
Please help.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Step 1
Enter "WindowServer" (without the quotes) in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the same process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

It will input your Quicken PPC data file directly if it was Quicken 2005 through 2007.  If older you need Quicken 2006 or 2007 PPC first to convert your data file; and this update must be done BEFORE you upgrade to Mavericks:

To make sure that this is not software related, set it back to factory settings, without using any backup data afterwards. Set up the rest of the personal settings manually and test the phone. If it still does not work, this is a hardware issue and the phone has to be serviced by Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider:

  • I have an IMac running the latest level of Lion.  Since installing Lion and also being forced to replace the hard drive I have a problem with the screen intermittently go all white.  Happens about 8 to 12 times a day.  I am using Wild Blue as my ISP.

I am looking for anyone in the west Tennessee area using Wild Blue along with Apple IMac who is having a problem with their screen going complelely white every so often.  Have had the maching into the Apple store in Memphis.  They could not get it to fail.  Help

TutorDaddy, if this Mac is still covered by the initial warranty or under AppleCare, take it in and have it looked at. As the old label used to say, there truly are "no user serviceable parts inside." Kernel panics very usually indicate failing hardware.
I have an older iBook G4 that started developing kernel panics and like you, despite reinstalling the OS from a freshly formatted volume, they kept continuing. I looked at the crash log and saw that in each instance of panic, the last bit of code to be accessed had something to do with AirPort. Knowing that the AirPort software was at then current levels, I surmised the problem to be a bad AirPort networking card which, on that particular model of the iBook, was a very small module attached directly to the logic board. Since the computer was out of AppleCare, I broke the machine down myself (I didn't realize that there could be so many barely visible screws in one machine) and removed the offending piece of hardware. My iBook lives but without WiFi, it now sits as a more or less desktop machine needing an ethernet connection to stay connected to a network.
I do not suggest you break into your iMac. First of all, I'm guessing one would need to be able to pull off the glass and have the necessary glue to reattach it, which is not really available to us consumers. If you're feeling adventurous enough to read the crash logs from each panic, you might be able to surmise the hardware component (or badly written application or library; it can happen) that's causing the panic. If it's a software issue, remove the offending software app and see if the panics return. If it's a hardware issue, it's best to let a competent service tech qualified on Apple hardware to handle it.

There is no "world apple warranty" on iPhones. As paulcb points out, the warranty is only valid in the country of origin. You will have to bring it to the U.S. or send it to someone you know there to get it serviced.

  • Tv screen turned blue after speaker layed against right lower screen

after a speaker layed on the screen,in the right lower area of the screen.  the area
of the screen turned blue and is now covering almost half of the screen.  the rest of
    the screen is ok.
    thanks,  ljd

The other possibility is that he laid a physical speaker against the face of an LCD or plasma screen, damaging the unit.
LCDs/plasmas are much more sensitive to frontal pressure than CRTs.
To the original poster:  What kind of TV is this?  Where was this speaker laying against the TV?  Did someone accidentally lean a speaker against the face of an LCD/plasma so the panel was bearing weight, or did someone place a speaker near the side of a CRT TV (whether a normal CRT TV or a CRT projection unit)?
If it's an LCD or plasma, the panel is likely permanently damaged.  Time for a new TV.  Don't lean stuff against the front face of such units in the future.
If it's a CRT, it just needs to be degaussed most likely.

  • Problem with black screen and crashes after installing windows 7 and bootcamp

K, so I partitioned my internal HD using Bootcamp, installed a new copy of Windows 7 Home, put in my Mac OSX disk and installed the additional stuff. I can successfully log in to Windows and open the browsers I have installed: Comodo dragon and Mozilla FF. McAfee auto installed with FF and I have Comodo Antivirus installed.
However, within minutes of use, my screen goes black, the computer does not shut down and reboot, I have to press the power button and wait a few secs for it to shut down then reboot. This has happened from both browsers while in Windows on Facebook in a game; while trying to save an attachment from an email via webmail and also while checking the inbuilt Windows settings for the display.
The latter produced the following report (below) on reboot and when I hit the "look for a solution" button, the actual window vanished after a few secs.
2 additional bits of info which may or may not be related:
    a) running windows troubleshooter I discovered I have prob with:
driver for Inter (r) 5 series /3400 series chipset Family USB Universal Host Contoller - 3B3B
    - I Googled this and it seems a common prob. Tried the reinstall, didn't work, so disabled it as suggested on some of the forum posts.
    b) The OSX side of my computer seems to run fine most of the time, tho I have had the odd back screen, then wait, press reboot to power on and off in past as related in this post last month: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4844797 (maybe a kernal panic..???)
Would anyone know what is causing these probs or what I can do about them? My computer is no longer under warranty and the couple of times I had probs while it was, I was told the probs were to do with the power supply and given a new one, I'm not sure if they looked at the logic board. The OSX side has also had an ongoing prob to do with sudden shrinkage of the image content, which I mentioned to the geniuses at the Apple store b4, but as it wasn't acting up there they couldn't do anything about it... ( looks as tho sm1 changed the screen resolution and whatever is in the browser window shrinks, tho desktop, is never effected - if that makes sense!.)
All in all tho, does make me wonder if the prob is based in the graphics switching..???

When booting up hold down the option key and pick the Mac startup disk.  To make it automatic, once in your Mac side go to preferences, startup disk and pick the Mac disk.  Next time you boot up it will boot up to Mac OS.

  • I have had problems with slow and non-responding Internet using Safari.

While my Windows-based laptop and iPhone access the Internet fine, we are having difficulties with our iMac accessing the Internet and, if we do get on, it is extremely slow.

If you mean movies you have exported from iMovie HD, those can be imported easily. If you mean iMovie HD projects opening in iMovie '11, I don't see many people have much success with that.

  • Problem with my new (refurbished) Canon Rebel t4i. Anyone know what's going on?

So, my girlfriend got me this sweet Rebel t4i for Christmas. I'm still learning how to use it, but it's giving me a problem, and I don't know if it's because something's wrong with the camera, or if I'm doing something wrong.
85% of the time, when I try to take a picture or video, instead of taking the picture, it just says "BUSY" on the screen. Sometimes the flash buzzes and flashes light, but no picture. Sometimes if I hold the button down for an extended period of time it will take a picture, sometimes it just fritzs out.
I really like this camera but because of my schedule I haven't found time to sit down and really figure it out. There's a warranty on the camera, plus it was purchased recently, so I need to know if I need to send it back.
I can take a video of what it's doing if that'll help.

There may be nothing wrong at all... this sounds like the camera isn't able to focus.  If there isn't much light on your subject (e.g. shooting indoors) and the subject doesn't have enough contrast in poor lighting, then the issue would be normal and not a camera problem at all.
By default, the camera is in "One Shot" mode -- but a side-effect of One Shot mode is that the camera uses a behavior called "Focus Priority".
Focus Priority says that the camera is told NOT to take a photo UNTIL it can confirm that it was able to lock focus on something.   Depending on the available light, the camera may struggle to do this.  There must be enough light.
But the camera has one more trick up it's sleeve... it can use the flash as a kind of focus-assist light.  It pulses the flash rapidly (which will making a buzzing sound) in order to add enough light to the scene so that the camera can hopefully lock focus.
Once it can lock focus, it's happy to shoot.
If you switch the lens to manual focus (set the "AF/MF" switch on the side of your lens to the "MF" position -- that's Manual Focus), THEN the camera is told that YOU are taking care of focus and to just shoot whenever you press the shutter button (there will be no delay -- of course the camera wont even attempt to focus.)
For action photography, you can put the camera into "AI Servo" mode which continuously tracks focus on a moving subject.  But a side-effect of AI Servo mode is that the camera uses "Release Priority" behavior instead of "Focus Priority" behavior.  In this mode, the camera is told to take the shot as soon as you fully press the shutter release (hence the name) and it will do so EVEN if the camera did not finish focusing (normally you'd half-press the shutter and wait for it to focus -- you can also configure a back-button to focus as well.)
Take your camera outside during the day and try shooting when you KNOW there is plenty of light.  It should have no problem.  Inside... it needs enough light.
Canon's 430EX II speedlight flash has a red focus-assist beam built into the flash.  When you use that flash it will use the focus-assist beam on the flash to focus the camera (the flash projects the beam through a red lens in the lower part of the flash -- and the camera is able to lock focus on the pattern being projected by the beam.)  You can even use the flash to create the focus assist beam EVEN if you don't want to use flash (you can tell the camera to disable the flash -- in which case it will just use the beam but wont fire the flash.)
    Hope this helps!
