Have Audigy2 in Vista, why are there two volume control icons in system tr

Hi,
I'm running an Audigy2 on a Windows Vista system. There are two volume control icons in the system tray. One is the Soundblaster control, the other is the Windows control.
Are these two programs supposed to be running at the same time? Do they conflict with one another?
Thanks for your time,
Big Al Mintaka

Hi pgaastra.  I don't know why there are two items in the task bar, but you have identified the
recommended fix.  The why never bothered me enough to investigate, so maybe we will both
find out now.

  • Why are there two graphics cards listed in system information?

I have a MacBook Pro 5,1 2.53 Ghz. I am using Photoshop which brings the machine to a standstill, or so it seems. I looked in system information and discovered that there are two different nvidia GEFORCE graphics adapters listed...one 9400 and one 9600. Is there a way to select the 9600 which shows 512 mb or video ram versus the 9400 which only shows 256 mb? I am hoping that the extra video memory will improve performance. Or is this 9600 connected only to the video output and not to the built in screen?
Thanks for your assistance in advance!

    Thanks very much Niel!
I guess I knew about that setting, but did not realize it actually changed the graphics card that was selected! Already seems to be better after logging back in on the MBP!

On the ones that show up with Phoenix as the time zone the times change. Also I have had some of the times showing on the calendar at an hour different that when I open the Appointment. It will show the correct time, but on the Calendar it is sometimes different. "
From that information, it makes sense that your calendar is off.
Phoenix is in another time zone part of the year.   When daylight saving changed, Salt Lake City and Denver changed, but Phoenix did not.   You may have set time and date to auto, but the Mac knows the time difference and is compensating for it.

  • Why are there two separate JWS forums?

There's this forum and http://www.javadesktop.org/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=45 - shouldn't they be merged? Why are there two? Which one is the "official" one?

This forum, (the java developers forums) pre-date javadesktop.org, and as can be seen by the total thread count (5000+ threads vs 64 topics) has a lot more activity on the yopic of Java Web Start.
Javadesktop.org was created in 2003, and since it has much overlap with generic java development they also created a thread in their forum for Java Web Start.

  • Why are there two versions of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro in my Programs

I understand the annoyance and confusing issues with CC and CC 2014 programs.  I also have read in the community of Acrobat installing twice purposely?
My question is all my CC (or CC 2013) programs installed around early Feb.  The newer CC 2014 programs updated (or installed) around late June of 2014.  I have two versions of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro listed in my programs, are they two different versions?  The one installed in Feb shows ver 11.0, the one showing installed mid August is showing as ver 11.0.08.
Can I uninstall ver 11.0? or are these both purposely installed by Adobe.  If purposely, why is Adobe making their installs and updates so confusing and VERY annoying??
    Thanks for any suggestions!

There isn't.  One is Acrobat, the application installation.  The other is Acrobat's Creative Cloud licensing installation.  Do NOT try to remove one.
This is kind of documented in the Creative Cloud's Acrobat deployment documentation:  Creative Cloud Help | Deploying Adobe Acrobat
    Uninstalling Acrobat on Windows
Once you have deployed Acrobat using the package in the Exceptions folder, you can uninstall it using the usual process for uninstalling msi packages. There are two MSI packages that are necessary to uninstall in a standalone package.  One for the main MSI package that the Creative Cloud Packager creates which is for licensing and the second MSI package which is the Acrobat Pro MSI package which is in the Exceptions folder.
Here is the command line syntax for uninstalling Acrobat:
    Syntax Example:
    msiexec.exe /x <path to Acrobat msi file> /qn
Here is the command line syntax for uninstalling the Creative Cloud Packager licensing package:
    Syntax Example:
    msiexec.exe /uninstall <path to the CCP msi file> /quiet

  • Why are there two versions of Photoshop (CC

After accidentally opening two parts of the same website in DW CC and DW 2014 CC, I uninstalled the older version.  Can someone tell me WHY the new version didn't overwrite the older one?  I assume that it is necessary to uninstall older versions, but this should be automatic on the upgrade shouldn't it?.  What is the reason for this? Kind of interested because it was unexpected.
Years ago when upgrading from CS3 we discovered that the Photoshop PDF function could no longer make PDFs with pages in newer versions CS4 and CS5 (which clients wanted) so I have kept my CS3 Photoshop pgm just for making PDFs, while running the latest version for everything else.  Is it possible that Adobe depreciated some functions in this new release of CC2014 and that is the reason for both versions of CC?  Just putting it out there, I don't spend my vacations in Roswell, NM or anything like that.
    Thanks!
    John

Adobe, why are you making things so complicated...
People pay for the cloud, so they want improvement, they want to go with the latest tools automatically.
I'm a spoiled Mac user, where Apple always overwrites old apps, which is the most user friendly solution there is.
Please do this as well, because it truly sucks to have two apps!
Could you tell me how I get rid of the old version on a user friendly way, so my documents open with the new app.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Why are there two 10.5.1 Updates?

Why is there a smaller one and a larger, 110 MB one, and how do I know that I need to do the larger one? If you look at the "Permissions Warnings" post below, I am having a list of warnings when I do Verify Permissions. This is my only problem. Everything else works fine, so I don't want to mess up my computer. But I also don't know if these warnings are bad.
Why would Apple put out two updates? How do I know if I updated the bigger or smaller one? Please help!!!

  • Why are there two AppleCare plans for a MBP "13? the $239 and the $249?

I just wanted to make sure about my hunch, I believe the $239 priced APP is for the "13 MBP while the $249 priced is for "15 MBPs?
I have a "13 MBP, and if these two types of APP cover the "13 MBP, it is obvious I would go for the cheaper one.

    I have a non-Retina "13 MBP, so I go with the $249 APP right?
    Yes.

Also, is the $349 APP covers all Retina MBPs regardless of size?
    Yes.

  • Why are there 2 apple tv icons showing on remote

There are two Apple TV icons showing up on my Remote app on my iPad Air. is it possible to delete one? Which icon is the newest? I concurently also have a problem with closed captioning appearing and disappearing randomly when this problem occured. This doesn't happen on my iPhone using Remote.

    Baba wrote:
I have never had an ATV1, and the icon never showed up before on my iPad 1, and has never shown up on an iPhone 4S or my iPhone 5. This is definitely an anomaly with the iPad Air, no question in my mind. Just delete the extra icon and move on. It hasn't shown back up again, but I will report if it does.
That's simply not possible. Unlike the Apple TV 2 and 3 where the Apple TV can just show up (providing it's using the correct Apple ID), the only way an Apple TV 1 can show up is if you opt to add an itunes library via the remote app which then generates a 4 digit code which then has to physically be entered into the Apple TV (so it has to be present)
Whether you are aware of it or not, someone has used that iPad with an Apple TV 1.

  • Why is there not a MobileMe icon in System Preferences on my Dome?

My MacBook Pro laptop has the MobileMe icon in system preferences but the Dome does not. Both hosts contain the latest software. Will this prevent the two hosts from syncing?

You've posted this in the iSync forum - the MobileMe forums are here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=116
(iSync has nothing to do with MobileMe syncing, or the MobileMe icon in System Preferences).
You might also want to clarify what you mean by "Dome" - probably means something to you, but nobody else!

  • Why are there two ns-httpd processes running for one instance of iws 6

    Hi all,
I'm used to iWS 4.x where there's only one watchdog and one ns-httpd process running for any given install of iWS. Now in iWS 6.x I noticed there are two processes for the admin server and two processes for the actual single web server instance, along with two watchdogs.
What are the extra web server instances doing? I noticed that there is a 'parent' relationship with the pid's, so I guess one is spawning the other, but why? If it's to have persistent state over restart, isn't that what uxwdog is for?
    Thanks in advance,

You can download latest Web Servers from [http://www.sun.com/download/index.jsp?cat=Web%20%26%20Proxy%20Servers&tab=3&subcat=Web%20Servers].
Please use either of the two

  • Why are there two full size copies of my pictures on my hard drive?

My hard drive contains one full size copy in each of these two folders:
    "Home->Pictures"
    "Home->Pictures->iPhoto Library->Originals"
I come to understand that the iPhoto Library file is the main file that iPhoto recognizes. However, I would like to avoid two full size copies of my pictures if possible. Any ideas?
FYI, my early attempts at organizing my pictures in iPhoto led me to switch to alias mode and retransfer my orginals folder to iPhoto (as repaeatedely suggested in discussion forums).
    -Doug

As Terence pointed out those files may be the "source" files for those early imports where the copy to library option was not selected. You might try the AppleScripts described and linked to in these threads. I haven't used them so make a temporary backup of your iPhoto LIbrary folder and the other photo files before trying them.

    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Why are there two default profiles?

I have been having problems with Firefox (both 19 and 20) not starting. I have followed all of the suggestions from the various threads, but the problem has persisted. Today, I wanted to save my passwords and bookmarks and completely remove Firefox (including deleting my profile) before reinstalling it. When I located my profile folder, (%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\), I noticed that there were two .default folders. One was my complete profile and the other contained a folder named 'Extensions', which seemed to be empty. My question is whether that second default folder may be causing the problem of Firefox not starting. Is there any reason why I should not delete it to see if that solves the problem?
