Having a hellish time with a RAID 5 Array

Seems that after a hiccup and a freeze that required a hard restart things have been going downhill.
Nothing but a gray screen after the restart and then had to start from an external drive.
Raid utility showed 2 of the 3 drives in the raid set as roaming but in good condition. The third drive that was associated with the raid set and in good condition, but the raid set itself wasn't viable. Guess this due to the other 2 drives roaming.
After reseating all the drives and the raid card then starting again, the raid utility now shows all three drives roaming but in good condition. There is no raid set defined.
Would I be able to just create a new raid set using those three drives and everything will be happy once again or will I lose data if I do this?
There isn't alot of information that I've found that pertains to this situation.
It also has the newer raid card.

I'm having a hard time with my sound blaster z sound card to sync with cs6. Can anyone share with me

I'm having a hard time with Adobe CS6 synching up with my soundcard. Latency settings and other applications are challenging at this time. I had 3.0, but my Windows 7 computer is now "deceased". Please help.

I endorse everything that Steve just said but to try and get you going while you're shopping for an audio interface more suitable for sound work than use as a doorstop, try the following:
Go to the Windows sound control panel and make sure the SB card is selected as the default on both the Recording and Playback tabs. On the advanced menu for both, set the bit depth and sample rate to either 16/44,100 (CD) or 16/48,000 (Video) depending what suits you best. Note that your SB card only works natively at 16/48,000 so anything else involves a conversion that the card hides from you.
Go to the Windows Control panel and, under the sound section, turn off all system sounds (since they can hijack your sound card). Close every other application that may want to use the sound card (internet for example).
In Audition, go to Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware. Set the device class to MME. On the drop down menus set the Default Input and Default Output to be your Soundblaster. On the Master Clock set it for the SB Output (this'll likely be default). Set the latency at around 200ms (you may need to increase this later if your playback stutters--or you can try decreasing it until you get stutter, then take it back up a bit. Set the sample rate to whatever you selected on the Windows Sound Control Panel.
The Soundblaster will likely have installed it's own control menu. Go to this and select Mic or Line as appropriate for the input and whatever you need for the output. I can't be more specific as SB keep changing what they call things.
Hopefully this'll get you going even if it's not the best compromise for quality and latency.

Having a hard time getting permissions to create directories and files in www folder:

So now I have a LEMP stack which runs fine and I have my root account secured and a new username "adriano". If I SFTP into the server using the username adriano, I am unable to create any files or directories. Trying to do a simple wordpress install doesn't work because I need to be able to create a folder for it, and a wp-config.php file. Both of which, like I mentioned, I do not have permissions to do. Yes, the username "adriano" has been added to the sudoers file via visudo.
I've never been very good at UNIX permissions so I was wondering if maybe someone can help me out?
Also, since I am using nginx it does not seem like I have a www-data group or user and my www folder is /usr/share/nginx/

No, no, you guys misunderstand me. I am not that much of an oblivious person. 95% of the time I understand EXACTLY what the code that I am copying and pasting does. And when I don't, I look into it further before executing said commands. I just tend to not remember commands so I google them, see examples, and then copy and paste them to avoid the busy work of typing out long strings. For example, it took me like 6 months to remember that to untar a .tar.gz file it was -xvfz.
But I digress. drcouzelis, I do have root access. It's my own VPS. However, I have always used shared hosting through different hosting providers and now that I got a VPS and have to do everything myself, I am a little bit lost.
I followed what wonderwoofy said and created a www-data group, added the adriano user to said group, and changed the owner of my http server root to www-data, and I SFTPed into the server again with filezilla and it still works perfectly. However, those "hordes of hackers" drcouzelis warned me about does not sound pleasant so I am really really really hoping one of you guys can tell me the next steps. Root login is disabled in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file, and I also changed the port to a random port I created. My web files are all served from /usr/share/nginx/ (there are different folders in there that correspond to different domains.) Now what I am wondering is that if user "adriano" is in the sudoers file as ALL=(ALL) ALL, doesn't that pretty make adriano the same as the root user? The reason why I am so worried about this is because I heard/read countless times that working through the root user is BADDDDDDDDDD and will bring evil and shame upon your life (not in those exact words) and that you should never work with it. Also, do I have to worry about anything dealing with groups and/or users and/or permissions when it comes to PHP? I have php-fpm installed.
I am willing to buy anyone who can help me out with this a beer or two and I will be forever in your debt.

Having a tough time with Prelude and Playhead movement.

I'm having a tough time grasping how navigation in the Prelude Timeline works, and will try to keep my questions short and separate, rather than a long list.
1) I've added markers to a clip. When clicking-on/selecting a marker that I've added, it appears in the HUD, but the Playhead automatically moves to where I click. That may place it anywhere between the In and Out points for that marker, when what I might want to happen is to select/highlight a marker, then move the Playhead to the Out point, (perhaps in order to move the Out point a few frames). There must be something about the Playhead behavior that I'm missing.
2) How can one Play only the part of a clip that has markers? Example: I have multiple markers, but I want to Play only the footage between the In point of Sub Clip 1 and the Out point of Sub Clip 1.
Is there a way to do that?
The difficulty in doing this seems to be compounded by the situation described in Question 1 above, i.e. when I select/highlight a Sub Clip, the Playhead moves to where I click.
I've tried various key combinations in the Timeline and the Marker Inspector, but no joy.
Is there a way to select and Play only a Sub Clip from its' In point to its' Out point?
Using Production Studio Premium CS6 on Windows 7 Pro, and Prelude Help>Check for Updates tells me everything is current.

Clicking on either the In/Out point to drag either one, they move as shown in your example.
I don't know how to record video from my screen to show the behavior, but when I do what you do in the first 2 seconds of your video, i.e. click in the middle of the colored marker bar, the CTI moves to where I click,
I notice that you already have a marker highlighted, then you click from an area without markers to the center of the first marker, then the center of the 2nd marker, then the center of the 3rd marker, all without the CTI moving.
When I do those same steps, the CTI moves to where I click. It appears you're using only Comment Markers. (I can't read the Marker text to know for sure). However, I''ve also tried it with Sub Clip markers, and a combination of Comment and Sub Clip markers, and the CTI still moves to where I click.
I've looked in Edit/Preferences, but nothing there seems associated to the behavior I'm experiencing.
Is there some other setting I'm overlooking? Maybe something "connected" to how the HUD affect CTI movement?

Having a terrible time with Illustrator CS5 lagging

I searched around for a while, but I haven't been able to find anyone having a similar problem.
Here are the basics.
I'm currently creating a 3 layer Illustrator project in CS5 and lagging/hanging has become frequent and lengthy. The project is a black and white image with a text overlay. The art board, text box and image are all 6in x 6in. The text box is completely filled with 6pt text from top to bottom and side to side. There is a lot of text. The typeface changes frequently throughout the text between about 4 different varieties of Helvetica Neue (light, regular, bold, etc). The text color also changes frequently.
The problem seems to have arisen as I added more and more font related changes to the text box. In other words, as I began changing all of the text to light, regular, bold, etc, Illustrator began to lag more and more. Something as simple as typing a letter, backspacing, or changing font color takes up to a minute to do. If I simply type a letter or backspace, I get the spinning beach ball for anywhere between 20 and 60 seconds before the letter appears or disappears.
This didn't happen until i got about 1/4 of the way in to the frequent typeface changes.
I'm on a new 13 inch MacBook Pro, Intel Core2 Duo 2.4 ghz, 4gb ram. I also opened the file on a 17 inch MacBook Pro, Intel Core i5 2.53 ghz, 4gb ram also running CS5 with the exact same result. Both systems are running OS X 10.6.4.
If anyone has any idea what could be causing this, or how to remedy it, I'm willing to try it.
It really seems that the frequent typeface changes over a large amount of text are what's causing the lagging, but I can't see why that should be. Especially since the project is not very large to begin with. File size is only 2.2mb.

I am having a similar problem with CS4 on a PC and suspect a background program to be the problem as well but I don't have RightZoom.
It lags when selecting, dragging, typing and drawing but very randomly. Some days I can use Illustrator through my whole 8 hr shift and not have a problem and other days, every other thing I do causes a 3 - 10 second delay. There really doesn't seem to be a pattern to it but there must be. Working from scratch on a new document or older ones with linked files makes no difference. The PCs we use are more than poweful enough to handle the program, 64 bit system with 6 GB of RAM and Intel I5 processor. We have 2 identical builds and both are having the same or similar issues. One worse than the other. I find myself going back to CS2 more and more often just for the stability. Any help on this would be appreciated.

MSI X58 Pro - I'm having trouble setting up my first Raid 0 Array

Hey guys! I have an i7 920, X58 Pro, 3x2GB DDR3, Radeon 5850, 640GB WD Black (Windows 7 64 bit + applications) and 1TB Samsung F3 (backup) system and I'm having trouble setting up a raid 0 array. I recently decided to purchase two additional 1TB Samsung F3 harddrives in order to create a raid 0 array, while still keeping my original two harddrives separate. I installed the new harddrives today, installed the JMicron drivers that were on the drivers disk that came with my motherboard, went into the bios, and changed it from IDE to RAID. I then went into the raid bios, selected the two new harddrives and selected raid 0, saved everything and tried to load Windows and Windows refuses to boot up. I got an option to try fixing Windows but that didn't end up fixing anything. Finally, I was forced to go back into the bios and switch it from RAID back to IDE just to get Windows to boot up again. Does anyone know what I need to do in order to get this raid 0 to work? Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

Perhaps create a software RAID? You can do it in Windows through Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Computer Management --> Disk Management.

I am having the hardest time with the screen protectors! HELP ME|!

So I bought the Anti-Glare screen protector from the Apple Store fir my iPhone. The first time I out it on, it looked good, but when I really looked at it, it was crooked around the Home button which looked really stupid, so I took it off with some tape and repositioned the protector, but yet again, can not get it straight, but worse of all, because my house is filled with flying dust, the back of the protector is filled with dust and lint and smudges, so now I cannot use the first one, so i open the other and what happens? THE SAME THING!!! So I have 2 questions.
1. What am I doing wrong, what is the best way to put these on? Should I take the protector off just a bit and place it on the phone and then let it fall into place? Or take it off completely and then place it and hope I get it straight the first time?
2. I am going to buy some new protectors (Same brand and everything), but I am wondering, would the Apple store give me an exchange despite the fact I did this to the protectors? Has anyone done that before?

It took me THREE OF THE THINGS before I get one of them on -- luckily, once on, it has never had to come off, and that has been since July.
I ended up putting a small piece of scotch tape at the bottom right corner, which helps you lift it up and reposition without having to lift it too far that desk lint and things get on it again.
I actually got so fed up after the first two, when I went back to get the second package of them (since there are only two of them per pack) that the "Genius" assisting me said he was a pro and would put it on for me. After the "Genius" had himself used up two of the protectors and it still looked awful, he just gave me another pack and wished me well.
The third one was the charm though, and it has worked perfectly ever since.

[SOLVED] Having a hard time with XMonad

first post ever in this Forum, but I've already used it a few times...
I'm from Brazil, and I chose Arch Linux to be my initial dive into the Linux world, I assumed this one is one of the best for me to learn about computing. I've already installed and reinstalled it a few times. I tried with KDE and stuff, but now I wanted to step up to a higher level, so I picked XMonad.
I followed several different guides to install it and stuff, I checked some solved problems trying to get it running, but no, it's still not working.
When installing XMonad 0.11 it warned me there were pendencies I had to install, some haskell packages and stuff, I got them all installed and it's now listed in GHC-PKG as xmonad-0.11 and xmonad-contrib-0.11. I got Xorg-server, xorg-xinit and xorg-server-utils all installed. I was going to use SliM Login Manager, but I found myself having trouble to start xmonad even with startx, so I'm focusing in configuring it first. I put into my ~/.xinitrc file the lines: "xsetroot -cursor_name left_ptr", "setxkbmap -model abnt2 -model br -layout abnt2" and "exec xmonad", then run "# xmonad --recompile". Finally, when I run startx what happens is that my screen goes black and theres a mouse pointer, that's it, all those XMonad keyboard shortcuts doesn't work, I've tested it with the default template in "/usr/share/xmonad-0.11/man/xmonad.hs" and other downloaded from users in this forum. Nothing ever changes, except from the default template, which gives me error messages referring to 'help' not in Scope, which I believe it's a known bug/error in the file.
I really want to use, try, learn about XMonad, but first I gotta successfully run it at least once, so I can change and see the results while making my own .hs ...
So I'm here asking for a light, all mighty archie wizards.

Ok, so I ran startx with "exec xmonad" with this xmonad.hs config:

Supposely it had to open terminal with WinL + Return or WinL+Shift+Return. But it's not...
EDIT: OH DUDE! I changed urxvt for xterm and it opened! I'm so glad with almost nothing, now I'm gonna check for more keybinds and that wiki a little further... thanks
EDIT2: If I open XMonad and then open xmonad.hs and make some changes, will it automatically update? or do I have to recompile > restart?

Still having a hard time with "search" driven new support site.

I am still having a very hard time using this new support site. It is extremely confusing. Confusing is frustrating.
I've looked at the Tutorials and User Tips. While the User Tips have often been helpful, overall I feel like the Tutorials especially is like getting a 5 page pamphlet on how to fly a jet plane. Top level overview. Not detailed enough.
It shouldn't be so difficult - it's overly complicated to use this new site. It should be intuitive. It's not.
My biggest issue is that this forum seems to REQUIRE a user to KNOW a priori what the user is looking for so that a SEARCH can be done. It seems to have no "browse" friendly features such as categories. And it's missing those ambient indicators such as the partially filled light blue dots on the old forum that showed in a nano second what threads were new, had updated posts, or were already read.
The new site seems geared to take one down a rabbit hole with SEARCH too because it's constantly suggesting very OLD content that's not relevant.
If you don't SEARCH and use just the right terms and know exactly how to set up some sidebar, toolbar, RSS feed, bookmark, email notice, etc etc etc. it's almost impossible to find things on purpose or accident or to know when a thread is updated.
On the old forums, when I would post a question for myself I made a point to browse for threads where I might be able to help someone else. I have no idea how I could do that now.
I now dread having to use the forums. I can't seem to help myself by finding existing answers in prior posts, help myself by keeping up with my own posts (since I can't tell what's new/updated) and I can't help others.
It would be great if some kind of organization and structure could be put in place to help make this support site browse friendly.

Hi, Gordon: I would guess we have a few hundred at the most. I have only entered about 20. Most of the entries are retail stores we sell wholesale to, and contractors we sell at contractor prices, but we also have a retail trade of customers and that is going to increase a lot when we open our new show room in a few months.
My main concern is design and sales to the contractors and public, but I frequently get calls from stores asking about our inventory stock, shipments, etc. I'm new to this so I am just learning.

This post is in regards to the HTC Droid DNA, and details my current support dilemma with VZW. If a VZW rep could please read this and comment on a way to find a solution, or if any other users have been in a similar position, your advice would be appreciated.
It is no secret that there is a defect with the HTC DNA, which could otherwise be an excellent device. The problem: supposed firmware issues which cause the device's SIM card to dismount at random. Any calls to VZW will tell you that they released an update to fix the device. The problem: the success rate is very, very low. I suspect the problem is HTC's fault and not Verizon's, but I do feel it is up to Verizon to handle these issues with dignity.
I have this problem, to an extent that seriously makes this phone little more than an advanced paper weight. And with it being a device used primarily for work, to have the SIM card dismount upwards of 20 times a day is simply unacceptable. The device is defected, well documented, and very much experienced by a LARGE percent of the user base. Spend 5 minutes Googling and you'll see that there is no shortage of people experiencing this problem. The worst, is looking down at my phone only to find out that again, the SIM card is dismounted, and I'm not receiving work calls and people are becoming increasingly frustrated with me. Sometimes 1 reboot fixes it (for who knows how long), sometimes it has to be rebooted 4, 5, and even as much as 10 times to correct it. Sometimes you just keep rebooting and the issue never corrects itself. I've almost thrown it at the wall several times.
Now, here's my problem with Verizon.
They will replace the device with a refurb, but NOT FOR FREE if there is any visual physical damage to the phone. I had an idiot crack my screen about a week ago, and while I can understand why Verizon would have policies in place to fine individuals for returning broken phones (duh, that's probably why you want a warranty replacement), it is without question that a cracked screen has anything to do with this problem. It's a VERY well documented issue. A problem that I had before cracking my screen, and one that has becoming increasingly problematic, so much so that this thing isn't even a phone anymore.
I spoke with a Verizon rep who was happy to send me a refurb (what awesome service, I was thinking) but who at the last minute dropped on me the bit about any visual damage to the phone resulting in a non-refundable $299. The rep sympathized with me as she had the exact same problem with her DNA and had to have her phone replaced as well, but informed me that I was basically out of luck. Visual damage to phone once received by warehouse = $299, regardless of the fact that the nature of the return has nothing to do with the screen, and that it's very well understood that this is a manufacturer problem which has nothing to do with a cracked screen. Here's the kicker: I asked her if I could perhaps pay some sort of smaller fee for the broken screen - nope. I asked if I could take the phone to a professional to have the screen replaced, then send it in for replacement - nope. I asked if there was anything I could do to pay for the marginal damage of the screen crack - No, no, no.
This is absurd. I am not trying to cheat anyone but am left with no choice but to suffer with a defective device simply because Verizon does not care to make any sort of logical exception in this case. That is the epitome of poor customer service. There will always be exceptions, and a good company will recognize that and make sure their customers are cared for. If I did this with my customers, I'd be out of business. Too big to fail, I guess - the worst thing to happen to consumers.
Verizon needs to step up and take responsibility for selling a faulty device. I'd be happy to pay for the OEM parts to replace the screen assembly so that my device can be swapped with one that, you know, like works and all? Why can't this be arranged?

Having a working phone is definitely a must! I understand how frustrating this whole situation has been for you and I apologize for all the inconvenience.
You mentioned that the phone screen is cracked. Although this may have not caused the issues you are experience, it voids the warranty. If we replace the phone through the warranty you have to return your defective phone to us. Once the phone is received and physical damage is found, you are billed $299.99 for the device.
