Having trouble exporting mpeg2 files from FCP 3 - please help me!
I haven't made a DVD for a little while, in the meantime have upgraded my operating system from 10.3 to 10.4 and am completely up to date with QT etc. I have Final Cut Pro 3, DVD Studio Pro 1.5 and Quicktime 7.3. The problem now is that when I try to export my edited video as mpeg2 from FCP, FCP immediately quits- I just can't figure it out... it leaves a file icon in the destination folder but apparently the error in the crash report means that I'm trying to write to a read only destination!?

Can you use DVDSP to do the encoding for you?
FCP3 was really not intended to be run from Tiger, in fact, I believe it will not install on a clean 10.4 disk.

I have an EPS file that was created with CS3 on a macbook leopard operating system and was saved according to the ( Adobe) instructions to the CD in illustrator 3.
Later I tried to open the CD on a Performa 6200 CD using a macOS 8.1 with Illustrator 6.0. When I opened the CD there was a closed lock on the top left corner of the window, the EPS file icon appeared as a gray paper not looking like your typical illustrator file. I then proceeded to click on the EPS file and a window appeared with this message: "The document "---" could not be opened, because the application program that created could not be found. Could not find a translation extension with appropriate translator".
If there is anyway that you can help out please respond, I am really desperate.
Thank you,It sounds like your older performa might not know to open that EPS with illustrator. Try going into Illustrator and using File>Open. If that still does not work it may be that CS3 did not save down a version that will work with Illy 6. Options for saving a legacy EPS from CS3 are Illy ver 3, 8, 9, 10; so you would need to save down to 3.

I have bought the download and backup disk online to put windows on my computer, but it keeps saying please put disk in and wait a few seconds for your computer to open it. There has to be away to put this on my computer from a download....
Yes I have LION, I do not have a DVD burner but I was told i can do this via Flash Drive. I have it formatted correctly but it still will not open it. I guess i am just going to have to return this Windows b/c i cant figure it out. I am downloading it one more time and then saving it to my flash drive. This time I am downloading the 64 bit ISO. Think that may help?

I am having trouble exporting .raw files from my Mac Book Air to an external storage device. Even though I am exporting as "original" they are being exported as jpegs. Anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong?
Using the "original" setting is the correct way to do it. Select on of the photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option. That will take you to the file inside the library via the Finder. Confirm that what you see if the raw file.
If it is then try the following: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

I am having trouble exporting closed captions from premiere cc 2014. I see them in the program monitor but after i export and try to playback in either quicktime or VLC i get to embedded captions. I eve tried the side car file and embedded with compressor and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated.
I only used compressor because i switched from final cut to adobe. easy fellas!I have latest QT version, do i need to go back to 7? I have tried VLC also, i usually use that to check CC in mpeg files. I am exporting a QT H.264 for just testing purposes, I need a prores HQ, also this is SD so my sequences are set to 720x486.

This works fine, but when I go back to FCP, delete the clip from the timeline and place an other clip there and when I Export>Using Compressor, Compressor places the clip in a new Window title "Untitle 1" and so it goes on. As far as I understood, whenever you add a clip from the FCP it places it below the first clip so when I want to add my settings, I can add all 3 settings to all the clips. You're misunderstanding a couple of different things. When you send a clip or sequence from FCP to Compressor, you cannot then apply the settings you want in Compressor then go back to FCP and delete that clip from your sequence ... Compressor is trying to reference that sequence. If you keep removing clips, then Compressor won't follow those clips ... you're essentially breaking the link between Compressor and FCP by doing this.
Try this:
1. Load Clip A into the Viewer, Set your In & Out points and add your Color Correction.
2. Press Command U to Make a Subclip. This will create a separate "clip" in your bin. Rename as necessary.
3. Repeat this process for your other 19 clips.
4. Then Select all of your new subclips in your Browser, then File > Export > Using Compressor. This will open Compressor and add all of those subclips into the Job window.
5. Add your appropriate Target settings and set your Destinations and revise any filenames if necessary.
6. Click Submit.

Having trouble recovering music files from data cd
Over a month ago my computer crashed, possibly due to me trying to update my ipod to Version 1.1. Unforunately a lot of my programs weren't working after that, including Itunes, but I still have my music files which I could not listen to so I decided to save them as data so that they would not be lost forever. I was finally able to get Itunes up and running a couple of days ago, the music files on my harddrive have been deleted. I am now having trouble getting the songs from the cd I had burned to back onto my hard drive, I have tried Apple's method of dragging the files to the Source List while in Itunes, but this does not work. I have also tried Importing the songs, copying the file, and copying the folders, but none of this works. Sorry for this being so long
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What do you have set in the System/CDs and DVDs preferences to do when a disk is inserted? If the option is not set to the Finder do so and see if that will make any difference.
Otherwise boot into Safe Mode and see if you can copy the files from the CD to a folder on the Desktop. Boot back into your normal account and see if you can import. Or import while still in the Safe Mode.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Having Problems importing XML file from FCP 6 onto a FCP 5 application
I have a project file that i worked on FCP 6 and wanted to move to FCP 5 app. on a different Pro Mac but when i try to import the xml, it prompts me to "Please choose a Translation Document File". I choose the FCP 6 project file because i wasn't sure what to choose and i get the ERROR: No translation templates matching the selected XML file were found. Unable to import this file.
any ideas?make sure you exported your XML from FCP6 using a compatible XML version (1, 2 or 3) ... version 3 would make the most sense as its the most recent FCP5 compatible version .... don't export using version 4 (the default for FCP6), that one is for transfering projects between different installations of FCP6 only

Having Trouble Exporting .mov files
Hi, I've been trying to export a lossless quality .mov file of a presentation I shot a couple weeks ago. It's about 3.5 hours long and is being an absolute pain. It takes over 8 hours for it to export the quicktime animation file, and then it ends up being around 250gb which is way way wayy to big! The files I put into the timeline only add up to 21 gb, why is it doing this? Even when I used an h.264 codec, the file is still around 100gb and it took 12 hours to encode!! Can somebody please help me with this? I need to get this footage to the company I shot for. Thanks!

Losslessly compressed files are huge. That is an unavoidable fact. 250GB is an unsurprsing size for a 3-hour movie that is losslessly compressed. The fact that your input files were 21GB has nothing to do with it. Those files were heavily compressed.
What is your client asking from you? It seems unlikely that they're asking for losslessly compressed file for delivery. Are they asking for something for playback? What are their delivery specifications? -
Having trouble transferring large files from SSD startup disk to newly installed internal HDD
Have just installed an additional 2TB Samsung HDD in place of my optical drive on my late-2011 MacBook Pro.

Startup = 120GB SSD
New HDD = 2TB SATA Samsung M9T

Issue:
Installed my new 2TB SATA drive and it appeared OK in Finder. I was able to navigate to it and create new folders and move small files into it (under 100MB maybe)
Really want to move my iPhoto library onto the 2TB disk to free up space for Apps on my SSD, but when I try to copy/move it over it only does the first few MB then freezes and appears to timeout as the new HDD disappears from Finder and ejects itself. I'm surprised that the eject stuff shows for an internal HDD but that's a side issue.
Have read about similar issues in other OS versions, especially around external HDD and have tried the following already:
* Looked at power management of the hard disks to stop them going to sleep
* Have told Spotlight not to index the new HDD to prevent the indexing task causing issues
* Both SSD and new HDD are formatted using MAC OS/X Extended (not FAT)
* Have tried fixing permissions on both disks as I believe there can be issues in Yosemite
I'm still having a problem despite trying the above. Struggling!
Any help much appreciated.Open Disk Utility. By selecting one of the two entries for the HDD please determine how it is formatted and what partition map it is using. I suspect you did not partition or erase this drive before use. If that's true, then do this:
Drive Partition and Format
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
Now you can try your file transfers again. However, before you do I recommend you clone your SSD to the HDD so the latter could be used as your boot drive should it be needed. That will also create an Home folder on the HDD with the files you wish to move to it. You can then simply remove those files from the SSD to free up the space.
Clone Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
button.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
to the Destination entry field.
5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
the Source entry field.
6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new HDD. Source means the SSD startup volume. -
I am having trouble dragging/dropping or otherwise copying files from my MacAir to a window for a shared drive.
When I try to drag/drop, files get bounced out.
Anyone know how to drag/drop in such a case, or otherwise copy files from MacAir to a shared drive (which I do not believe is on a Mac, not sure if that matters).

Exporting QT file from FCP with multiple audio channels...?
Is there a way to export a QT file out of FCP that will not mix down all of your audio? This file could be a FCP QT or just a regular QT, doesn't really matter!
But If I wanted to edit with self contained Qts that had been synced from a wav file that had 8 tracks, Each from a different mic. How is this possible?

For FCP 7:
Click on your timeline.
Type Command - 0 (Zero) and click on the Audio Outputs Tab.
Change the number of outputs you want, and set the track pairs up as stereo or dual mono, as you want.
Click OK, a warning dialog box will come up that you can dismiss.
On the timeline, Option-Click on each audio track right below the auto-select toggle icon, and from the drop down menu, route the track to the desired output track.
When done, export the Quicktime movie.
The only way you will verify that all the tracks are there is to either open the exported quicktime in Quicktime pro and menu Window > Show Movie Properties. You'll see the additional tracks listed there -OR- just import the exported movie back into FCP and bring it up in the Viewer, you'll see all the audio tracks.
Make sure you restore your sequence back to two channel ouput, if you want, when you are done.

Having trouble exporting to pdf from InDesign CS6
When I attempt to export to pdf from InDesign CS6, the application crashes. Apparently there is some phantom plug-in issue.
