Header column row query
Hi
Generally when we query:
select employeename, employeeaddress from employee
Out come is:
a1 b1
a2 b2
a3 b3
I have to write one query, in which i should be able to insert a header row. like:
employeename employeeaddress
a1 b1
a2 b2
a3 b3
As in above result header row should also be out come of query.
please help.
Hi,
Here's one way :
SELECT empname, empaddr
FROM (
SELECT 0 as head, 'employeename' empname, 'employeeaddress' empaddr FROM dual UNION ALL
SELECT 1, employeename, employeeaddress FROM employee
ORDER BY head;Could you tell us the reason you want such an output? Maybe there are other methods to serve the purpose...

Why is it so problematic changing the amount of header columns/rows in Numbers?
When I set up a new spreadsheet I often make many changes to header rows and columns until I get a layout ironout and suitable for my task. Heck I even transpose from column headins to row headins sometimes. Yet everytime I reduce say column headings it always deletes the information in the column I didn't want it to. Even when I have a blank column. Is there any way to select columns then change column headers item in the inspector or something? Well obviously I tried the former and the answer is "no", leaving "something" ;-)
This is a hopeful question for workarounds/methods/education before I place a feature request to polish this functionality with some no-nosense inetligence.Put your feature request in.
The current state of affairs is:
You may convert the topmost non-header row to a header row, to a maximum of five. Doing so will not affect the content of the cells in the row (but may change format attributes such as bold and alignment).
You may add a header row above or below an existing header row, to a maximum of five in total, using the appropriate menu items in the popup menu in the header row's reference tab, or by pressing option-up arrow or or option-down arrow. Cells in the new header row will be empty. Any formulas referencing cells in the original header row will be adjusted as necessary.
You may add header rows above the first row of the table by choosing a number larger that the (checked) existing number of header rows in the sub menu of the Tables menu item Header Rows. Cells in the added rows will be empty.
Converting header rows to non-header rows is not supported.
The top header row(s) may be removed by choosing a number smaller than the (checked) existing number of header rows in the sub menu of the Tables menu item Header Rows.
Any Header row(s) or regular row(s) may be removed by selecting the row(s) (or a cell in the row(s)) and choosing Delete Row(s) from the Table menu.
The content of cells in the row(s) is deleted with the rows. Formulas referencing cells above or below the deleted rows will be adjusted, theose referencing cells in the deleted rows will return error message.
Support for converting, adding and removing Header columns follows the same pattern as above, with left and right respectively replacing above and below.
Footer rows may be added or removed following the same patterns as above, with below and above respectively replacing above and below.
Converting to or from Footer rows is not supported in either direction.

Locking Header Columns or Header Rows
When working with large spreadsheets in Excel you can go to the window pull down and select to freeze or lock a header column or row. I'm unable to find the availability of this useful tool in the Numbers'08 program. Does it have this capability? If so how do I activate it?
To get it you must upgrade to iWork '09

Does Coloring Of Rows and Column in Query effect the Performance of Query
Hi to all,
Does Coloring of Rows and Column in Query via WAD or Report designer , will effect the performance of query.
If yes, then how.
What are the key factor should we consider while design of query in regards of Query performance.
I shall ne thankful to you for this.
Regards
Pavneet RanaThere will not be any significance perofrmance issue for Colouring the rows or columns...
But there are various performance parameters which should be looked into while designing a query...
Hope this PPT helps you.

We used to be able to sort by multiple columns/rows at once by right clicking on the header and choosing show more options-how do we do that in the new Numbers? It doesn't appear anywhere. Do I now have to sort massive tables by each column one at a time now? Also there used to be an easier way to merge/unmerge cells without me having to go to the table menu each time. Am I missing something?
Multiple column sort is a missing feature in the new version. Hopefully soon to return. You can do a multicolumn sort by sorting one at a time in reverse order of importance.
For merging and unmerging cells, I select the cells and right click to bring up the contextual menu. Merge and unmerge are on the menu. You could also create keyboard shortcuts for Merge Cells and Unmerge Cells in the Table menu. -

Header columns alignment in PDF using CFDOCUMENTITEM
Hi All,
I'm creating a PDF with CFDOCUMENT tags and using CFSAVECONTENT tags. I will do the formatting everything inside the CFSAVECONTENT Variable and create the PDF using the save content variable.
<cfdocument format="PDF" orientation="landscape">
<cfoutput>#strContent#</cfoutput>
</cfdocument>
The generated pdf will have 5 or 6 pages which will have a table kind of structure.
My client needs the header columns on each page of the PDF. As of now, I'm having the header column in the first page alone.
I tried using CFDOCUMENTITEM TYPE="Header"; I'm seeing the columns as some text with no alignment as a row.
How to align that so that it looks as a header?
I tried the one below;
<cfdocument format="PDF" orientation="landscape">
<cfdocumentitem type="header">
<html>
<tr style="font-weight: bold; font-size: 8pt; text-align:left">
<td width="10%">Test<br>Number</td>
<td width="11%">Test B</td>
<td width="18%" align="Center">Test<br>Factor</td>
<td width="18%" align="left">Test c</td>
<td width="4%" align="left">Test Qty</td>
<td width="4%">%<br>Impact</td>
<td width="10%"align="center">Test Owner</td>
<td width="6%">Date</td>
<td width="17%" align="left">Comments</td>
</tr>
</html>
<cfoutput>#strContent#</cfoutput>
</cfdocument>
Thanks in advance for your help!Got this header formatting working by using CFSAVECONTENT before the CFDOCUMENT tag.
Not sure why my style sheets not working inside the CFDOCUMENT tag. -
2 header columns and 3 body columns
Hi
i have designed a dynamic table with 2 header columns and the body rows are dynamic,
my requirement would have
an image attached to the cell1 of the body row each time it repeats ,i am getting the image field
from XML
my issue is
how to create a table with two header columns and have three body cloumns(including the image,
if say i have created a table with three columns , is there a way that we could supress the line between two cells that comes when we create a table.
Thanks in advance
please find the attached doc .Hi Paul
Thank you very much for the reply, yeah i tried to merge cells on my header colunm and it worked,
but on the body columns where i have 3 cells
cell1 -->LOGO_BENEFITS--> image field
cell2 ---> TITLE_BENEFITS -->text field
cell3---> STATUS_BENEFITS--->text field
here i have a issue (i dont know much of XML and i am passing the above 3 cells below as follows:
<SF5>
<LOGO_BENEFITS>C:\Logos\icon_SF5_grey.gif</LOGO_BENEFITS>
<TITLE_BENEFITS>BENEFIT1</TITLE_BENEFITS>
<STATUS_BENEFITS>XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX</STATUS_BENEFITS>
</SF5>
<SF5>
<LOGO_BENEFITS>C:\Logos\icon_SF6_grey.gif</LOGO_BENEFITS>
<TITLE_BENEFITS>BENEFIT2</TITLE_BENEFITS>
<STATUS_BENEFITS>XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX</STATUS_BENEFITS>
</SF5>
ISSUE 1.
1) i am not able to see the picture in the pdf. (for some reason it just showing blank space in place of the image_field) --(is there any thing wrong in the way i am appending the path for the pic in my XML)
2) considering the image shows up, how do i supress the two cells in to one in the body column (cell1 and cell2) .
Thanks again for your time

The issue with using the multiple columns sub-query in WHERE clause
Hi All,
my database version is 10.2.
the problem i am trying to deal with is that when I use multiple column sub-query in the WHERE clause of the SELECT statement, the actual row number returned from the sub-query is different from the whole statement.
And what I found is that, whenever there is NULL in any of those columns returned from the SUB-QUERY, the outer query will just return NULL for that whole row.
Here is an example:
select empno, ename, job, mgr, hiredate, sal, deptno from EMP
intersect
select empno, ename, job, mgr, hiredate, sal, deptno from t;
7782 CLARK MANAGER 7839 09-JUN-81 2450 10
7839 KING PRESIDENT NULL 17-NOV-81 5000 10
7934 MILLER CLERK 7782 23-JAN-82 1300 10
select * from EMP where (EMPNO, ENAME, job, MGR, HIREDATE, SAL, DEPTNO) in (
select empno, ename, job, mgr, hiredate, sal, deptno from EMP
intersect
select empno, ename, job, mgr, hiredate, sal, deptno from t);
7782 CLARK MANAGER 7839 09-JUN-81 2450 10
7934 MILLER CLERK 7782 23-JAN-82 1300 10 If I specifically deal with the NULL situations for the columns which might return NULL, I can get the result right.
select * from EMP where (EMPNO, ENAME, job, NVL(MGR,-1), HIREDATE, SAL, DEPTNO) in (
select empno, ename, job, nvl(mgr,-1), hiredate, sal, deptno from EMP
intersect
select empno, ename, job, nvl(mgr,-1), hiredate, sal, deptno from t);
7782 CLARK MANAGER 7839 09-JUN-81 2450 10
7839 KING PRESIDENT null 17-NOV-81 5000 10
7934 MILLER CLERK 7782 23-JAN-82 1300 10 the problem is that, I feel this is a very lame way of handling it.
So, I wonder or am asking if there is any better or standard way to do it?
any help would be highly appreciated.
ThanksHi,
As you discovered, INTERSECT treats NULL as a value, but IN does not.
What you did with NVL is one way to handle the situation. If there was a chance that any of the columns could be NULL, then you might prefer something like this:
select *
from EMP
where ( EMPNO || '~' ||
ENAME || '~' ||
job || '~' ||
MGR || '~' ||
TO_CHAR (HIREDATE, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')
|| '~' ||
SAL || '~' ||
DEPTNO
) in (
select EMPNO || '~' ||
ENAME || '~' ||
job || '~' ||
MGR || '~' ||
TO_CHAR (HIREDATE, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')
|| '~' ||
SAL || '~' ||
DEPTNO
from emp
intersect
select EMPNO || '~' ||
ENAME || '~' ||
job || '~' ||
MGR || '~' ||
TO_CHAR (HIREDATE, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')
|| '~' ||
SAL || '~' ||
DEPTNO
from t
);This assumes that you can identify some string (I used '~') that never occurs in the strings in these tables.
This is implicitly converting the NUMBERs. That's usually not a good thing to do. but explicitly converting them would make this even more tedious.
You should explicitly convert any DATEs to strings, however. Depending on your default format, and your data, you might get away with implicit conversions even for DATEs, but don't bet on it.
If you had to do this often, you might consider writing a user-defined function:
delimited_string (empno, ename, job, mgr, hiredate, sal, deptno) would return a string like
'7839~KING~PRESIDENT~~17-NOV-1981~5000~10'
This will make the coding easier, but beware: it will make the execution slower. -
Single Sub Row Query Returns More Than 1 Row!
I am trying to update values in a table from another table and getting the error: Single Sub Row Query Returns More Than 1 Row.
I want table B's PRV_NAME updated into table A's PRV_NAME where A.PRVID = B.PRVID where B.PRV_TYPE = M'
Both tables have all unique PRVID's, however, table B has PRVID's that have the same name. So table B data can look like this:
PRVID PRV_NAME
1234 PHOENIX MED
1235 SAC MED
1236 SAC MED
1237 OVERLAND
etc..
So, as you can see the PRVID's are unique, but not the PRV_NAME's. Is this the reason why I get this error?
I did not build the tables and have no control over what is put in them. If this is the reason for the error, is there any way to resolve this?
For reference, here is the query. Maybe there is something wrong with this?
update msb_prv_source ps
set ps.prv_name =
(select prv00.prv00_prv_name
from prv00_prv prv00
join msb_prv_source ps
on prv00.prv00_prv_id = ps.prvid
where prv00.prv00_prv_type = 'M')

I want table B's PRV_NAME updated into table A's PRV_NAME where A.PRVID = B.PRVID
Both tables have all unique PRVID's, however, table B has PRVID's that have the same name. So table B data can look like this:
PRVIDIf b.prvid is really unique, then
UPDATE a
SET prv_name = (
SELECT prv_name
FROM b
WHERE a.prvid = b.prvid
;should work, whether the other columns are unique or not.
(Depending on your data and your requirements, you might want to use MERGE rather than UPDATE).
I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) for all the tables involved, and the results you want from that data.
In the case of a DML operation (such as UPDATE) the sample data should show what the tables are like before the DML, and the results will be the contents of the changed table(s) after the DML.
Explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from that data.
Always say what version of Oracle you're using (e.g. 11.2.0.2.0).

I see you've posted your code now:
update msb_prv_source ps
set ps.prv_name =
(select prv00.prv00_prv_name
from prv00_prv prv00
join msb_prv_source ps
on prv00.prv00_prv_id = ps.prvid
where prv00.prv00_prv_type = 'M')Even if ps.prvid is unique, the sub-query can return more than 1 row if prv00.prv00_prv_id is not unique. When that that's the case, what do you want to happen? Include examples when you post the sample data and desired results. -
Command button inside header column in ADF table
Hi all,
I want to insert two command buttons inside the header column of an ADF table.
In my mind these buttons should replace the two default buttons (small triangles) to sort the column in ascending order or descending order.
Do you know any solution ?? Because it is 2 days that i am trying , but no way .
Thanks in advance
StefanoUse as mentioned below:
<af:table value="#{bindings.AllEmployees.collectionModel}" var="row"
rows="#{bindings.AllEmployees.rangeSize}"
emptyText="#{bindings.AllEmployees.viewable ? 'No data to display.' : 'Access Denied.'}"
fetchSize="#{bindings.AllEmployees.rangeSize}" rowBandingInterval="0"
selectedRowKeys="#{bindings.AllEmployees.collectionModel.selectedRow}"
selectionListener="#{bindings.AllEmployees.collectionModel.makeCurrent}" rowSelection="single"
id="t1">
<af:column sortProperty="#{bindings.AllEmployees.hints.EmployeeId.name}" sortable="true"
headerText="#{bindings.AllEmployees.hints.EmployeeId.label}" id="c1">
<af:outputText value="#{row.EmployeeId}" id="ot1">
<af:convertNumber groupingUsed="false"
pattern="#{bindings.AllEmployees.hints.EmployeeId.format}"/>
</af:outputText>
</af:column>
*<af:column id="c2">*
*<f:facet name="header">*
*<af:group id="g1">*
*<af:panelGroupLayout id="pgl1" layout="horizontal">*
*<af:commandButton text="Ascending" id="cb1" icon="" iconPosition="trailing"/>*
*<af:commandButton text="Descending" id="cb2" icon="" iconPosition="trailing"/>*
*</af:panelGroupLayout>*
*</af:group>*
*</f:facet>*
*<af:outputText value="#{row.FirstName}" id="ot2"/>*
*</af:column>*
</af:table>

Can't freeze header column, grayed out
Hello... have header rows established and frozen, can't establish header column and freeze it. All areas are grayed out and column header is set as zero and won't allow me to change it.
Do you have any horizontally merged cells in this column? That will prevent it from becoming a header column

Can I move a header column to right side of page? I'm trying to make a planner template and would like the "subject" to appear on the left of p.1 and the right of p.2.
Hi Amy,
Sorry, but Header columns can only be on the left edge of the table. You can mirror your Header Column in your rightmost normal column by entering the expression =A in that column. Fill Down so the expression is in every row.
