Header trouble

I am new to both DreamWeaver and CSS. I am using DreamWeaver
CS3 to develop a website for our company. I used the health_nutr
design as a starting point but made modifications to fit our needs.
My problem lies within the header. I inserted a header image using
a div tag. Now I need to add a "Home" and "Contact Us" link along
with a search field to allow users to search the site. Originally I
drew the ap div's where I needed them and inserted the images. I
could not get these to view the same in IE and Safari. In one or
the other the images would either be dropped or flying up too high.
I tried every positioning possible, with relative, absolute, etc. I
then removed the ap div tags and inserted a table and entered what
I needed there. This works perfectly on the main index page. On all
the other pages, it either makes part of the header invisible or it
adds white space below the header section.
The attached code is a page that has a table added to the
header. It shows fine in IE but in Safari, part of the header image
is missing.
Is there a better way to be doing this? Or what am I missing?
I'm on a deadline for this project and I'm at my wit's end trying
to figure this out. Thank you for any help or direction you can
give.

It sounds like you are using a 3-column table either in the header or at the top of your document. Why not use tabs instead? Tabs are really much more versatile.

  • Troubles by changing the size of a bookmark header text Repot generation Toolkit

    Hello everyone
    I'm having  troubles getting the size of  a header text formatted into a different font size, I attach the code I'm using to get the work done.
    At the end I get all I want from the report generation toolkit but the text size in the header and footer . Does Anyone have a clue?
    Well the image is too small I'm getting an error when I try to post a bigger one. The thing is that the VI's used here to change the size are append report text.vi and format text.vi. The first one is used to insert text through bookmarks in the header and footer  (it works just gereat) and the second one is intended to change the size of the inserted text (it doesn't work at all) I've already used shift registers in the for loop but I get the same results. The last VI is dispose report.vi
    thanks in advance

    Maquina Etdos Verifica Reporte.vi ‏94 KB

    Hello Julio9,
     sorry for the waiting I had to clean the block diagram up and take into account some data security issues before I could post the information you asked me to. I have to tell you that I already came out with a patch for the issue nonetheless it is not the correct way to solve it and I would appretiate if you or anyone else could help me to do it right.
    Here is what I changed:
    In my code at the Initialize state (within the state machine) there is the New Report.vi I opened it to get also the new report SubVI.vi opened, afterwards I selected the NI_Word.lvclass: new report subvi.vi and opened it in its code yoou can easly see the double numeric constant value for the size of the text inserted as default. I just changed it from 12 to 8 to correct the formatting. As the outcome all the text inserted through the bookmarks have the default size (8 pts).
    I attached the new version of my code with all the documents you will need. Please follow these steps:
    1.-Open the project named Verifica Temperaturas 2010.lvproj
    2.-Run the main vi named Maquina Etdos verifica reporte 2.vi
    3.-Check the option Laboratorio de Refrigeradores:
    4.-Click OK
    5.-Complete the information as shown:
    (For Selecciona Machote pick the word document named Document.doc attached in the .zip file. For the Selecciona Archivo de temperaturas pick the Estacion1_21-02-2012.txt file also attached in the .zip file)
    6.-Press Siguiente
    After completing the steps you'll see how the document in created. As expected the size of the text in the header is 8 pts.

    Hi Wayne,
    Thank you for this response.  I have tried this but when I start enterring $ amounts some, such as $6.00, go in OK others such as $4.00 appear as a date ie 4 Oct 12.
    Kind regards

  • Trouble with header size....

    Hey,
    I am having trouble getting rid of a gap at the top of my header/banner
    The attached picture shows what i am talking about: if you look above the photo on the left, you will see a black gap that i cannot get rid of.   I want the picture to go all the way to the top of the page
    How do i do this?
    sorry for the simple question, but i just can't work it out

    You have h2 tags (head text size 2) around the image at the top of the page.
       <h2><img src="logo%20black.jpg" alt="ken logo" width="1000" height="200">
          <!-- end #header -->
    </h2>
    They are adding an extra 18px drop above the image. Header tags are block tags, which means (partly) that they come with extra space (margin) above and below). Taking the h2 tags off moves the image back up. Then you can go to the css and make the header div 200px tall (the height of the photo) instead of 218px, and the whole thing will tighten up.
    .twoColLiqLtHdr #header {
        font-family: "MS Serif", "New York", serif;
        background-color: #000;
        background-position: 0px;
        height: 200px;
        position: relative;
        padding-top: 0px;
        padding-right: 0px;
        padding-bottom: 0px;
        padding-left: 0px;
        margin-top: 0px;
        margin-right: 0px;
        margin-bottom: 0px;
        margin-left: 0px;
        border: medium double #300;

  • Trouble with the header content of php script - return wrong character: ??

    Hello everybody!
    I have one problem with reading of content of php's return text value.
    Ok in php script was programmed something like this:
    ===========================================
         $new1 = ereg_replace(".*OUTPUT url=\"(.{40,70})\" ?/>.*", "\\1",$XMLResponse);
         $size = strlen($new1);
         header("Content-Type: text/plain");
         header("Content-Length: " .$size);
         echo $new1;
    ==========================================
    $new1 includes url address to picture.
    Ok, in my java applet I'm using the method readLine() of DataInputStream Class, where I'm reading the return text value of the mentioned php script. The code is here:
    ==========================================
              try {
                   dis = new DataInputStream(url.openStream());
                   str = dis.readLine();
              } catch (IOException e2) {
    ==========================================
    but response is a text plus this kind of characters in beginning : ??
    What the trouble there? Thank you
    Jan Zitniak :)

    Hello,
    thank you for your idea, but I resolved problem with this code:
              URL urlReal = null;
              try {
                   urlReal = new URL (str); // convert String to URL
              } catch (MalformedURLException e) {
                   // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                   e.printStackTrace();
    In that code I "converted" a string to url where the string happened a real URL address.
    Jan :)

         <p>Sending Otis to Brian for the board and train program was the best decision I ever made.  After being told Otis could not be helped and that he should be put down, I was devastated.  Otis has now been back from Brian's program for a few weeks and is extremely obedient and friendly.  He is the same puppy we brought home a couple years ago, but calmer and without any aggression.  We work on Otis' obedience daily as well as walk him and put him on the treadmill.   Thanks to Brian, our dog is happy-go-lucky and more approachable.  The list goes on and on of how Brian has helped the family, myself, and especially Otis.  If you are having issues with your dog, especially behavior and aggression problems, my advice to you is to trust Brian.  Your dog will be in good hands with a safe, reliable, responsible, dog lover that will treat your dog like his own.<br />

    The issue with that white space is explained by the use of relative positioning of your menu. Remember that relative positioning visually allows you to move an element, but that its "shadow" or "foot print" is retained in the document flow. So it still takes up space where it originally flowed in your content, and this causes the header image to position itself the way it does. Turn off the relative positioning of the menu to see what I mean. A simple solution is to set the #header to relative positioning, and then apply absolute positioning to the menu.
    There are other issues with your code. Much of it can be simplified, and you should really stop using ID selectors from this point on, and predominantly use classes instead. The use of ID selectors ought to be limited as much as you can - they force you to write bloated convoluted code.
    Try to write DryCSS (Don't Repeat Yourself).
    Here is my somewhat cleaned up code. Notice I removed and simplified most of the css selectors. Some have no css properties at all anymore. And be careful that you cannot use re-use the same id selector in your html  code: it will not validate. #program1 must become .program1
    PS as always, please backup your files before applying these changes! Dreamweaver lacks a history/versioning feature!

  • Trouble implementing a header on Wordpress

    I installed the Edge Suite Plugin. I used the shortcode to successfully implement my animation I created for my about me page. I now want to implement a header I created for my site. I uploaded the animation witth the .oam file and chose it as my "default composition". It worked, except an image is visible when it is off my stage in Edge. The file is not showing just what is visible in the stage like it should. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

    Great!!!
    Here goes...
    ///Frame 1///
    var amountLoaded:Number = _root.getBytesLoaded()/_root.getBytesTotal();
    loadText.text = Math.round(amountLoaded * 100) + "%";
    ///Frame 2///
    if(_root.getBytesLoaded() == _root.getBytesTotal()) {
    _root.gotoAndPlay(2);
    else {
    gotoAndPlay(1);

  • Trouble with Report Header

    Hope this is the right forum, I am trying to build a custom report with a coverpage, the report is basically complete with one exception. The page footer section is causing a blank white area on the report header.  The page footer has graphics and text objects in it which don't show up it's just blank. What's worse is it takes the items that it chopped out and dropped them onto the next page.  WTF is happening here?

    Alright, that's what I was looking for. So, if you don't want the Page Footer on the 1st page, follow Debi's advice on suppress it on Page1.
    Here's how can do it though:
    1) Go to the Section Expert (Report > Section Expert) and select Page Footer
    2) Click on the x-2 formula icon beside the 'Suppress (No drill-down);
    3) Type this formula:
    Pagenumber = 1
    This will suppress the Page Footer from appearing on Page 1.
    -Hope this helps!

  • Having trouble creating clickable banner ad/header

    I have gone the route already of creating an invisible button for my header. All I would like to do is be able to click it and it will return the user back to the main index file without opening a new window. When I click on the swf file there is a pointer but nothing happens. Clicking does not oppen a window, or redirect anywhere. I have the following in my actions file in the layer I created.
    clickTAG.onRelease = function(){
    getURL(" http://www.domain.com", "_self");
    I have also tried the following as well:
    on(release) {
    if (clickTAG.substr(0,4) == 'http') {
    getURL(clickTAG, "http://www.domain.com", "_self");
    I have researched and tried changing to several others but have not had any success. I am sure I am missing something simple here but can not figure it out.

    I can imagine they were not used together, but I cannot imagine beyond what I already explained in my last response the differences in what you did... in the first code you use it as if it is a button's instance name.  In the second you use it as if it is a string... two entirely different animals.
    Normally a "clickTAG" represents data that is read in from a parameter in the html embedding code.  Your actionscript extracts that string of data and processes it.  So your second approach appears to be closer to what you need, though it should be directing the getURL to use the clickTag value as the url, not some fixed url string.
    Your best bet to get something working is to find a clickTAG tutorial and follow it thru.  Your best bet for finding one is to use Google and search terms like "AS2 clickTAG tutorial"

  • Hi Guys, having trouble remembering all my passwords on all my devices for the many accounts that we all have. Surely there must be a better and more secure way to prove your identity for all these accounts? Please help my head is going to explode.

    Hi all, has anyone come up with a way to access all of your secure websites without having to remember millions of passwords?
    Going nuts trying to remember them all

    Going nuts trying to remember them all
    Sure, I have them all written down on scraps of paper about 4"X4"--maybe 50 total--and stored under a loose floorboard beneath the kitchen sink. If they get wet from a drain leak, I can easily dry them out in a warm oven at 200° for several minutes.
    Besides that, I keep some in Keychain, but most are in Firefox saved passwords. I've never felt the need to do anything else. Where it's important, I use long random strings. And I don't let Firefox save passwords for anything that involves purchases from C Cards.
    (Note: I really do have the ones written down on scraps of paper that I don't want to keep  in a browser, but not really under a loose flooboard, etc.)

  • Trouble getting my head around new ipod!!

    Can someone PLEASE HELP me?!!!
    I got a new ipod which is GREAT for music, but im having some difficulty.
    My podcasts wont appear in podcast catorgory on ipod & neither will my audiobooks. I've tried the help posted on disscusion pages but still cant do it!! I just feel i cant get the most out of my lovely new little white machine!!
    Is it worth buying the Ultimate Ipod Guide I've seen advertised or is it just me being stupid dumb blonde!!
    PLEASE HELP!!
    Tina

    Welcome to Apple's user-to-user discussion forums.
    Are you getting the podcasts and audiobooks through the iTunes Music Store or from other sources?
    I have no experience with using an iPod with Windows. I know for the Mac that at least for audiobooks from other sources, you can run a script that will allow the audiobooks to have a bookmark and will also make them be seen as audiobooks on an iPod.

  • Mini-Dvi-to-Video trouble

    I just bought a mini-dvi-to-video adapter so I could use my TV as a display. More specifically, so I could use my VCR to record what's on my Mac's display. I also bought a headphone-to-composite cable adapter. I'm using a double-headed (is that one male or female? It's male, isn't it?) composite cable from the video adapter to the VCR. The problem is, it doesn't show up. The sound plays (and records) fine, but the video neither shows up on the TV screen nor records onto the tape. What's the problem? Both adapters are Dynex, my computer's a Late 2006 iMac (I think), the cable is WireLogic, and both the VCR and TV are Sony. Please help, thanks.

    So if you eliminate the double headed splitter and plug straight into the TV, does the video still not show up?
    FYI, there have been reports in the past of trouble with the Dynex video adapter. You may need to purchase the Apple OEM one. The Dynex may lack having a ROM inside of it with a proper EDID in the ROM. This is crucial to the Mac.

  • Hi, I am having trouble MacBook Air crashing since Yosemite upgrade. I ran an Etresoft check but I don't know what it means... my system runs slowly and crashes. I have to force shutdown. Sometimes screen is black for a split second b/w webmail pages

    Hello,
    I am having trouble with my MacBook Air 13 inch June 2012 MacBook Air5, 2 4GB RAM  details below in Etresoft report. I recently upgraded to Yosemite and am having system trouble. My computer crashes and I have to force quit to restart. When using webmail there is a black screen for a split second between pages. This did not happen before. I am worried that it is not running properly and perhaps I need to revert to the previous operating system. I only have a MacBook Air and no need to share images between a tablet or phone so I did not need the new photo sharing software of Yosemite. I wonder if I don't have enough RAM to run it? I did not run time machine before I made the upgrade as I did not realise the significance of an upgrade as not very Mac literate. Any advice on whether my system is in danger... most appreciated! I am writing a book and making a back up but this machine is my lifeline and my work is conducted through it. It ran perfectly before... the Yosemite upgrade has perhaps highlighted some problems and it has unnerved me!
    Thanks ever so much for your advice!
    Lillibet

    When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
    These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    In the Console window, select
              DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
    (not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
    There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
    If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
    In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
    Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
    I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

  • Strange gaps in Header and Footer

    Im getting gaps in the header and footer on some of my pages.  Sometimes the gaps are filled with the background color of the colomn and other times they are the body color which is even weirder.  An example link would be http://www.mojogar.com/pcRepair.aspx .  In IE8 I get a gap on top but not  the bottom.  In Firefox3 the gap is on the bottom and not the top.  ???

    /* Tips for this Hybrid layout
    1. Since the side columns em-based sizing is based on the user's default font size, you will want to be sure that background graphics in the columns take that into account. Built correctly, this is more accessible for those that need larger font sizes, since the width of the columns remains proportionate. If this is undesirable with your design, simply change the width to a pixel size and be sure to change the margins on the #mainContent div accordingly.
    2. Since the sizing of side columns in this layout are based on the 100% font size in the body element, if you decrease the text size overall by using a font-size: 80% on the body element or the #container, remember that the column widths will downsize proportionately. You may want to increase their widths, and the size of the #mainContent div's side margins, to compensate for this.
    3. If font sizing is changed in differing amounts on each div instead of on the overall design (ie: #sidebar1 is given a 70% font size and #mainContent is given an 85% font size), this will proportionately change each of the divs overall size. You may want to adjust based on your final font sizing.
    4. The #container div is not necessary for this layout at the 100% width. You may want to use it to create faux columns or limit the width of the layout.
    5. It is not neccessary to have the 100% width on the #container div since, by nature, a div takes up 100% of the available space. It is here so that if you want to decrease the size of the overall container - perhaps leaving a bit of margin on each side - this will already be available for adjustment.
    .thrColHybHdr #container {
    width: 780px;
    /*margin: 0 auto;  the auto margins (in conjunction with a width) center the page if needed */
    text-align: left;
    padding: 0px;
    margin-top: 0px;
    margin-right: auto;
    margin-bottom: 0px;
    margin-left: auto;
    .thrColHybHdr #header {
    background-color: #C9F76F;
    height: 100%;
    width: 780px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 0px;
    .thrColHybHdr #header h1 {
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0px;
    /* Tips for sidebar1:
    1. Be aware that if you set a font-size value on this div, the overall width of the div will be adjusted accordingly.
    2. Since we are working in ems, it's best not to use padding on the sidebar itself. It will be added to the width for standards compliant browsers creating an unknown actual width.
    3. Space between the side of the div and the elements within it can be created by placing a left and right margin on those elements as seen in the ".thrColHybHdr #sidebar1 p" rule.
    .thrColHybHdr #sidebar1 {
    width: 13em;
    border-top-width: thick;
    border-top-style: solid;
    border-top-color: #C06;
    float: left;
    height: auto;
    .thrColHybHdr #sidebar2 {
    width: 200px;
    text-align: center;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 0px;
    float: right;
    /*.thrColHybHdr #sidebar1 h3, .thrColHybHdr #sidebar1 p, .thrColHybHdr #sidebar2 p, .thrColHybHdr #sidebar2 h3 {
    margin-left: 0px;*/ /* the left and right margin should be given to every element that will be placed in the side columns */
    /* margin-right: 0px;
    /* Tips for mainContent:
    1. If you give this #mainContent div a font-size value different than the #sidebar1 div, the margins of the #mainContent div will be based on its font-size and the width of the #sidebar1 div will be based on its font-size. You may wish to adjust the values of these divs.
    2. The space between the mainContent and sidebar1 is created with the left margin on the mainContent div.  No matter how much content the sidebar1 div contains, the column space will remain. You can remove this left margin if you want the #mainContent div's text to fill the #sidebar1 space when the content in #sidebar1 ends.
    3. To avoid float drop, you may need to test to determine the approximate maximum image/element size since this layout is based on the user's font sizing combined with the values you set. However, if the user has their browser font size set lower than normal, less space will be available in the #mainContent div than you may see on testing.
    4. In the Internet Explorer Conditional Comment below, the zoom property is used to give the mainContent "hasLayout." This avoids several IE-specific bugs that may occur.
    .thrColHybHdr #mainContent {
    text-align: center;
    margin-right: 0px;

  • [Kernel] USB and network trouble

    Hey all, i have some trouble getting my system fully running.
    I have a built in 3com network card, it uses the 3c59x module in the kernel (got it build into the kernel). I also have a usb cd writer. When i start writing my network fails after sometime. I came from vectorlinux to arch. In VL it worked without a prob. Here check my dmesg output. The most interesting is at the end.

    PCI: Using ACPI for IRQ routing
    ** PCI interrupts are no longer routed automatically. If this
    ** causes a device to stop working, it is probably because the
    ** driver failed to call pci_enable_device(). As a temporary
    ** workaround, the "pci=routeirq" argument restores the old
    ** behavior. If this argument makes the device work again,
    ** please email the output of "lspci" to [email protected]
    ** so I can fix the driver.

    When my network is down, the onlything to restore is is rebooting my computer. Restarting the network daemon does not work. Currently i don't have hotplug running, but with hotplug i encounter the same problem.
    I hope anybody can help me.
    Greetinx Atze

    It looks like the problem is with ACPI or you have a hardware IRQ conflict..
    check for a bios update for your Motherboard and check the bios settings.
    It might also help if you moved network card to another pci-slot.
