Headphones don't mute speakers in WinXP

In OS X, when I plug in my headphones, the iMac speakers mute so as not to bother others in the vicinity. After installing Win XP via Bootcamp, I notice that when I plug in my headphones, they work fine, but the speakers don't mute. Is there a place to fix this in the WinXP control panel or is this another one of those beta bugs? Thanks.

Visit the SigmaTel Control Panel to disable the SPDIF digital output.

    a) the speakers don't mute when headphones plugged in
    b) no sound period from headphones
Unless there's somewhere I can't find my mute speakers button is gone. I've run Windows repair and uninstalled/reinstalled SB several times.
    Help!

Check the connection between the soundcard and the dri've bay. You can test this by seeing if there's red light coming out of the optical out in the dri've bay.
I suspect the bay's gotten disconnected or lost power.

  • Bose in-ear headphones don't work with my macbook

My Bose in-ear headphones don't work on my macbook. However, they are working just fine on the iphone and ipad. When I plug it in the laptop there is nothing showed in the sound preferences, just the internal speakers. It's like I insert a stick or something there's no response whatsoever!
    Anybody have a solution??
    Thanks

it's likely a hardware issue most people experience that the detector which indicate if there is a headset plugged in are activated all the time making their phone silent but your issue is likely the opposite
the cure if it exist would likely be the same as the stuck in headset mode
    iPhone stuck in "headphones" mode
    worst case would be repair

  • Why would the audio play through the headphones but not the speakers?

I am working on an app that has embedded video. The audio works fine through my speakers and headphones as it does for some of my coworkers, but I also have other coworkers who get audio through the headphones but not the speakers. It's a variety of devices, 4, 4S, and 5. Any thoughts?

If you are working on developing an app perhaps you should try the developers forum.

No. I'm sorry. But, i think it uses the headphones as an antenna so it has to be plugged in to headphones in order to make it work. but, it burns the battery down so i don't use the radio function that much.

  • How do I play audio from my headphone jack and internal speakers?

How do I play audio from my headphone jack and internal speakers at the same time ? I have a splitter for my audio jack so that when i connect up my second monitor I can have it so it also plays audio as well as anything else i have connected into the jack but how do i let the internal speakers emit sound at the same time?

    Hello,
If you mean the internal speakers in your Mac, you can't play audio through them at the same time you have anything plugged into the headphone jack. When you plug something into the headphone jack, it disconnects the internal speakers.

now my headphones don't work?  (m-audio)
Am I missing something in preferences?

I would not even try to fix it after getting the logic board replaced. I would take it back to who ever replaced it and tell them it is not working properly.

You never did answer one of my questions.  Did your external speakers ever work and the internal speakers mute as they should?  If the answer is yes, do a System Restore back to a time when they worked properly. Type System Restore in the Start/Search box , hit Enter and follow instructions.  If the answer is no, do a System Reset as follows.  Turn off computer. Remove all attachments and battery. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.  Attach Power and insert battery.  Start computer and tap F2 at the Toshiba splash screen to get in BIOS.  Press F9 to setup system defaults. Answer Yes. Press F10 to Save Configuration Changes and Exit.  Answer Yes to complete the process.  The computer will restart.

  • Don't mute xmod speakers when headphones is plugged

Is it possible not to must the speakers even if headphones is plugged in? Any ways to solve this problem?

HDMI can carry video and audio. But, the DVI output of your MBP is Digital Video output, with no audio component. So, you're doing what you need to do - connecting your headphone port to your TV/stereo via mini-stereo to RCA cables. If your TV/stereo has digital (optical) audio input, you can connect a mini-Toslink plug to your MBP, since the audio port is a combined analog/digital port.

  • Why don't the speakers in my iPad work? It works with the headphones but i get no sound when the headphones are unplugged

The speakers do not work on the I pad2 even when I have reset it numerous times, and the headphones are unplugged?

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound. Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and its the icon; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

    Hey there Kyleosipad,
I was able to find this nifty Knowledgebase article that gave some insight on how to fix your issue. It looks like an audio setting needs to be adusted:
    1.  Go to the Control Panel.
    2.  Search for "Realtek HD Audio Manager".
    3.  Click Advanced Device Settings.
    4.  Click Multi-stream mode.
    I hope this helps.

  • Headphones and Speakers don't have different volume controls. Headphones same volume as speakers.

Under the volume mixer, it shows "Speakers and Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC). Everytime I plug in my headphones after listening to the speakers a bit loudly, the headphones still have the same volume as the speakers did, making the headphones blare very loudly. I want to figure out how to separate the speakers and headphones' volume control so that when I plug in my headphones, it'll have a different, lower volume than the speakers did (my desktop computer does that). Please help, thank you.

Hello...I have the same question...How the IDT Audio Control Setting can be configured to allow independent volume control setup between normal speakers and independent dual headphones? The setup is very confusing as there must be a way otherwise why it is called independent and the icons show up in that fashion,,,, may be HP customer support would like to explain..Hope to get an answer..Thanks..

  • TS3274 My headphones don't have any sound when I plug them in with iTunes or any other app with sound. The speakers continue to play. How can I switch over to headphones?

I can't get my headphones to work.  When I plug them in, the speakers continue to play.

There is a mechanical switch that when pressed in switches over to headphone jack.
    It is inside the jack.
Try pushing the headphones all the way in.
