Heads-up for Yahoo Messenger
In my archive & install of Leopard Yahoo Messenger quit at every startup. But there's a fix if this is happening to you. Back somewhere on this thread were instructions how to change a code line. It had been busted by the beta of Safari 3 and though it worked, it would always scroll back to the top.
I made this fix to mine in a copy of Yahoo Messenger. This version works.
It's not perfect though. If you log in invisible and the names are in italics, they do not change to plain when you become Available. And the opposite is also true. But click on each name individually will change the state of the text. There's a feedback option under the Help menu.

The cheap & easy way is to just drag the app to the Trash.
If you want to get all of the associated files use an app deleting app like the free AppCleaner;

Just drag an app and drop it on the AppCleaner icon in the Dock and it will find and present to you all the files it thinks are associated with the app. You can uncheck any that you want to keep and then let AppCleaner Trash the rest. -
Can u use a USB webcam on an iMac with built-in isight for Yahoo Messenge?
Hi...I hope someone can shed some light on this.
I have an intel core duo iMac 20 with built-in isight.
I use Yahoo Messenger (the new version) and have no problems getting my isight to work with it.
For most circumstances, the built-in isight is fine... but sometimes having a camera with a zoom feature and the ability to pan further up or down would be most beneficial.
I also own a usb Logitech (pro-4000) webcam (the last series for which they have Mac support) and have installed the latest Mac drivers for it. I can get the Logitec to run its built-in applications, but when I try to select a webcam to use for Yahoo (in the yahoo preferences webcam section), the only selection available to me is the built-in isight.
Is there any way to get the option to choose between the Logitech and the isight?
I tried macam drivers, but that just gave me an application that allowed me to record video or snap pics from my Quickcam, Yahoo Messenger still does not recognize it as a source.http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/

Where can we suggest new features for Yahoo Messenger and other RIM IM clients?
I just downloaded the new version of Yahoo Messenger and I like the user interface. But every time a new version comes out, this application creates a less-complete history of contact behavior. Several versions ago, the contact's status showed up in the open conversation, along with the time stamp of when the status changed. This included Idle and Custom Status changes. That disappeared. In the last version, you could see the time the contact signed in or out last, and sometimes both. Now they're gone as soon as you close the conversation.
The whole idea of having Yahoo up on the BlackBerry all the time is that you don't have to be staring at the screen all the time, that you should be able to take it out of your pocket and check out those events that occurred that didn't set off alarms. I'd like the whole contact history to be right there, for as long as I want to keep it active. How can I make this suggestion to RIM for the next version of Yahoo Messenger? Thanks.

i have a new mbp. i've installed yahoo messenger. first time i used it, it was okay. webcam was good (using the built in isight). the next day, i cant use the webcam for YM. it always stops. why is that?

mac book pro Mac OS X (10.4.6)As I have a PC-using girlfriend halfway 'round the world that I called using Skype for audio and Yahoo for video, I was motivated to find a solution quickly until Skype adds video for Mac (hurry, Skype, hurry!).
Anyway, I have a free solution that turns out to be better than Yahoo anyway: SightSpeed. They've got video chat (w/video voicemail!) for PC and Mac, and the PC/Mac versions work together.

If this company can do Mac/PC video already, then I don't know why Skype isn't ready yet. It's got a pretty good user interface; but the audio's a little funky for me (sounds like 50's sci-fi sound effects in the background no matter how I tweak it or using headset), so I'm sticking with Skype for audio and SightSpeed for video.

Web Cam does not work for yahoo messenger

I down loaded a s/w MacCleanse, it kinda deleted a lot of files from my mac book air after which the web cam stopped working on yahoo messenger. I checked Ichat the cam works perfectly but does'nt with messenger. Does any one have a clue on how to fix this..from my experience, attempting to use two programs that allow the use of the camera will render it unusable on the second program attempting to use it. So, if you started iChat first, then forgot to quit the program, and are now trying to use Yahoo Messenger, then you must quit iChat first and it should work.

Sri.If you search in the iSight forums on Apple support you'll get better info.
iSight on iChat = both video and sound work fine. If you are talking to a person on PC, then both video and sound will only work if they are using the latest AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) on Windows.
iSight on OSX Yahoo IM = only video works - there's no sound options in the OSX Yahoo IM preferences so they didn't even code that in.
iSight on Windows Yahoo IM = only video works. No one has coded a driver that works with the firewire microphone part of the iSight yet. -

Hi, tvpappy. On the Yahoo Messenger homepage, it's noted that v. 3.0 Beta requires at least os X 10.4. If you're still running 10.3.x (as the System Info below your post indicates), then that's why YM 3.0 Beta doesn't run on your machine.

Go to Solution.well i made some test's with 4-5 soft with yahoo messenger and i think that IM+ is still the most best yahoo mess for N97 i didnt saw any other soft better than it and i tryed slick 0.54, ebuddy,shmessenger,etc and i think IM+ is still the best (u can see u avatar and etc) wich with others u can't.and i can place Slick 0.54 on 2th place after im+, but i still w8 for some one to tell me one better soft for yahoo messenger for N97 , like yahoo messenger on ihpone if u guys knows haw it looks

Nokia's new asha models come up with the chat app pre-installed. Just open Chat from the home menu and add your Yahoo and gTalk accounts there. You can also use Nimbuzz which does the similar work too..
If you're looking for Yahoo Messenger or gTalk for calling, that isn't possible. You can only use the chat from your phone. -

Yahoo! Messenger was last updated September 20 and recent reviews are pretty negative. Seems an issue with Yahoo!'s app, not your iPad. Send Yahoo! feedback aasking for an update.

the isight/webcam was working fine in yahoo messenger (ym) for sometime, then for no reason at all it won't work anymore after i closed it. It keeps saying no cam found. any solutions?

Logging Issue, Can't Disable - Yahoo Messenger
Hello everyone, I recently had a problem with Yahoo Messenger and contacted Yahoo about it and was told to send them a Log of the program, by enabling the logging feature via Terminal with the following steps:
+"To help me investigate the issue, I'll need you to send me a diagnostic+
+log file. Here's how:+
+1. Enable diagnostic logging:+
+a. Quit Yahoo! Messenger for Mac.+
+b. Launch the "Terminal" program located in Applications -> Utilities.+
+c. Copy and paste each of the following commands into the Terminal.+
+Press <Return> after pasting each command.+
+defaults write com.yahoo.messenger3 EnableRMPLogging -bool YES+
+defaults write com.yahoo.messenger3 LogLevel all+
+defaults write com.yahoo.messenger3 LogPath ~/Desktop/ym.log+
+2. Now that diagnostic logging has been enabled, try to repeat the issue+
+you're experiencing with Yahoo! Messenger.+
+3. Disable diagnostic logging:+

Now, after completing the last 2 terminal steps just shown above and deleting the original "ym.log" file on my desktop, every time I open up Yahoo Messenger, a blank "ym.log" now appears on my desktop.
Anyone know what step is missing to turn this log feature off in Terminal?
Please help.Well, after some extensive research and digging through old forum posts on several Mac forums, I found out that I was modifying the Preferences file under Users for Yahoo Messenger.
Basically just deleted the file, restarted and the command was no longer active and the logging no longer active.
Hope this helps others who may encounter the same problem. -
Palm Pre Default Messenger App - Unable to Login to Yahoo Messenger
I have not been able to sign into yahoo messenger for last several days using palm pre's default messenger app. I can sign into google talk. Anybody experienced this issue? I can log into Yahoo messenger from the mobile.yahoo.com using the palm's web browser. Error I saw was that it could not connect to the server.
I CAN log into Yahoo Messenger via HP TouchPad Messenger App.
what is the yahoo messenger server address that the palm pre messenger app is using? I want to contact yahoo as well if they changed anything on their end...thanks
