Headset for iChat

What is the best headset for talking on iChat (brand, bluetooth vs. usb)? I did a search before posting this question. There is not much there. I have a MBP 2.33 core 2 duo.
Thanks,
Eric

erk, as Ray noted, the Logitech USB headsets have been problematic (headset not recognized without frequent trips to the Sound Preferences panel, and - at least on his MacBook Pro and my MacBook - total system freezes).
Not sure who else makes a USB chat headset, though.
NOTE be sure that you DO NOT buy an analog (stereo mini-jacks) chat headset, as Macintosh computers don't have a mic-level input, just line-level (which requires a powered/amplified signal). They just won't work.

  • Connecting a macbook to a tv for ichat?

    Hi,
I am wondering if there is a way to use a macbook connected to a tv with a dvi or similar cable to ichat.  My Mom is throwing a 70th birthday party for my dad and we usually chat macbook to imac, but I know there is a way to connect to a tv so I can 'attend' the party.  I can't seem to find what I am looking for, but it seems like it would be simple.  The problem is that my Mom isn't too savvy in this area, and it is hard to walk her through this.  I would think once she connects to the tv, a simple switch in Displays prefs would do it.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hi,
My MacBook Pro has a DVI Output and came with an Apple DVI to VGA cable.
It is very short at about 6 inches.
    My TV has VGA Input.
For me this would need a longer cable to be able to place the Computer in a position to still use the camera (it would be useless for them to see you but you not see them because the camera was facing the wrong way) then in System Preferences > Displays Mirroring can be turned On.
I would then go Full Screen in iChat so that the iChat Video chat was the whole display on the TV.
I would also get iGlasses (A System Add-on) that can be used by iChat to do various Adjustments to the Macs Video pic  (Pan and Zoom is one thing that may be useful for a shot of a room when people are further back than normal).
For Sound to the TV she would probably have to use a 3.5mm jack to whatever the TV has.
(And chose System Preferences > Sound > Output  and then Line Out (it may read Headphones if something is Plugged in) - she may also have the option for the Digital feed).
Obviously if her Mac or her TV have other connections then some inter cabling will be needed.

  • Final Cut Timeline Feed as video source for iChat?

I was at the Apple NAB presentation in Vegas a few weeks ago, and one of the things they showcased in regard to iChat AV was the ability for an editor to videoconference with several other people at once and one of the video feeds in the chat window was actually the output from the editor's Final Cut Pro timeline. As he made changes in the FCP timeline, he could play it out in real time and all the people in the chat could see the video feed and make comments on the edit.
OK- so we were excited because that's a workflow issue we have here. So, we bought some iSight cameras and Tiger and started to do some testing here. The only problem is that it doesn't seem very easy to set up. At first I just thought, "well, they are just playing the timeline out of the firewire port on the FCP machine and another computer is ingesting that firewire stream as a video source for iChat." except when you connect 2 Macs together with a firewire cable, the FCP system doesn't detect a DV video device to output to and the iChat system doesn't detect the incoming firewire stream as a "camera". I spoke to tech support and they said it's not something they support so no luck there.
I did find an article on Creative Cow about someone doing something similar, but it involved exporting the FCP timeline out through a Kona analog video card into an external tape deck that does analog to DV conversion which then can be imported back into iChat as a DV stream, but last time I checked, a Kona card would run me around 1500 bucks.
    Anyone have any other ideas?

    HI Jeremy,
Welcome to the Aple Discussion Pages.
Based on the Auto Responding iChat Accounts that play films I would guess they were either using an AppleScript to import FCP as the Video sourdce or usiing an Add-On like iChatUSBCam that also alows you to change the video source to the desktop.
iChatUSBcam has a new beta for Tiger http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/

I know my Apple Id (it isn't ".mac") and password but I can't log on to ichat.  I keep getting a message of password not matched.  I saw somewhere that my Apple id is the same as my ichat account.  Do I need to create a new account for Ichat?  I've already reset my Apple id password 3 times in the last 2 days.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hi,
At one time only Email IDs from Apple (when it was just @Mac.com) were referred to as "Apple IDs"
Other IDs such as to log in to Discussions were know as Discussion IDs
Things like the Online Store and iTunes and Apple realising that people would prefer one ID to have access to Everything tended to move things together.
There can be a variety of combos now
    iChat Name
    @mac.com before MobileMe
    @mac.com post MobileMe

Ask the Verizon store to exchange your iPhone for a different iPhone 4.
UPDATE - Sure, try ckuan's solution first.  Then use mine if that fails.

  • I want to buy a wireless headset for my iPad that will allow me to lissen to a video while blocking out any other sounds in the room yet is comfortable. I do not have any experience with headsets so I do not know what to expect.

I want to buy a wireless Bluetooth headset for my iPad that will allow me to listen to a video while blocking out any other sound in the room. I tried a philips 6000 earplugs but it was not good at blocking out sound. Can anyone give me some suggestions. I see lots advertised but do not know which one to chose.

Take a look at HeadRoom (headphone.com). It's a fabulous resource for all types of headphones, with great guides and useful reviews.

UCCX 9.0- My customer wants only ziptone in headset for new call to agent, no ringing on Phone.
Can this be done? I can't seem to find a way to do this natively.

Yes, I looked into that option. They don't want that because some agents have been known to walk away from their desk without going not ready.
    Thanks for the quick response!

  • What is the best headset for the iphone 5 that is not bluetooth.  I need great listening and speaking quality.

What would you consider to be the "best" non-bluetooth headset for the Iphone 5?  I have had some serious health issues of which could be stemming from the bluetooth and I need great sound quality both listening and speaking.  Any suggestions?

Problem with wired headsets is that there is not std for mic in headsets so if its not 100 % made for iphones it will not work

  • Anyone use M-Audio FireWire Solo for iChat AV 3.1 audio output?

Using an up to date iSight, audio output for iChat AV 3.1 works perfectly through my G5 internal speaker but does not work through my FireWire Solo. It yields 100% digital distortion everytime the person on the other end speaks. Everything else in my setup works beautifully with my M-Audio device (Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Reason, iTunes and all other applications). M-Audio is looking into it, but does not have an answer yet.

    Hi,
Checking olderpost I found your had been missed.
Add-on Capture cards for Video and MIDI audio devices have to have the most recent drivers.
I would alos recommend setting up MIDI devices with the MIDI Set Up Utility found in Applications/Utilities

  • Can't make an account for ichat, can't make an account for ichat

    Hi
I just bought me a new macbook pro and i wanted to use ichat.
The problem is, I can't make an account to use it.
I just have hotmail.com accounts, and it doesn't work on ichat.
And i fail in making an account that is compatible for ichat.
    Can you help me ?

    Hi,
In iChat 4 there was a Get an iChat Account Button that linked to the @mac.com registration page (when you selected @mac.com in the add account drop down)
In iChat 5 this had an option for the AIM Option to link via the same button to the AIM registration page.
Then AIM moved their Registration page.
For iChat 5.x.x. Apple have since disabled the Button (or pointed it to s different page saying the service has sort of ended)
The Button is not there in iChat 6
The @mac.com registration Page is Here
This allows you to link an external to Apple email ID to an @mac.com name (It is sort of Hard Linked so you can only use this Email once this way)
You cannot use an Email already Linked to an Apple ID.
The Password you create here must not exceed 16 characters (AIM Server limit)
The Name is both Apple ID and AIM valid Screen Name.
A name create here will work in any version of iChat.
    iCloud.
You can create a iCloud ID and this will end @me.com
Again the password should be kept to 16 characters max.
You can link existing Apple IDs to this as the creation process but again this "Hard Links" the emails
iCloud does allow you to create IDs from scratch (i.e with an email not already used with an Apple ID)
These names will only work in iChat 6 or Messages beta or Above (there's bound to be an "Above" at some stage as they say Messages will be in Mountain Lion)
    AIM registration page is here
This can create any ID you want (it says it will be @aim.com but your don't enter this Suffix)
You can use a secondary email for Password recovery and confirmation as many times as you want.
The password is limited to 16 automatically
You an in fact list any existing email as the AIM name (I have seen both Google mail IDs and Hotmail IDs as AIM Screen Names and technically it is possible to use an Apple name/ ID and the Name at AIM - most times it will tell you it is already in use)

  • Why did AIM for Ichat suddenly return an error?

I was using AIM for iChat earlier this morning and everything was working fine. Then suddenly, without warning, it logs out of every iChat account and returns the error: "An internal error occured that disconnected you from all iChat services. To resume iChat, log in again to your instant messaging account." I can log into my bonjour and jabber account, but as soon as I try to connect to AIM, it brings them all offline. I went to AIM.com and signed in and have been using the web client since, but apparently this has happened to about half of my friends on iChat. Why would this be and what can I do to fix it?

    Hi,
Now and then the AIM Servers have a blip and many people seems to get kicked Off Line.
I have server accounts/AIM IDs and keep some using SSL and the api.oscar.aol.com server on port 443 and some using the login.oscar.aol.com server on port 5190 without SSL.
Usually it only effects one group of my logins and not all of them.
It can of course be a server local to you that is having issues.

  • Wireless headset for iPhone

    Hi !
I´ve just converted from a ordinary SoneEricsson-user to now a iPhone 3GS-user. I´ve now concluded my new step and found out that I´m satisfied with everything beside that I´m missing my bluetooth headset from SonyEricsson - a headset with earplugs like the one you use for iPod but without wire connection to the phone. Up to now I´ve only found wireless headsets for the iPhone you must put on the ear all the time - you look like you are working with telephone support or CSI-gards
I´d be greatful if someone could recommend me a website where I can order my typ of headset for my new iPhone.
    /Marlene

The BT profile that might accomplish this is not on the iPhone, but even if it were you would not be happy with the results. Go for a good wireless microphone.

  • Webcam for ichat or Skype?

Hi, could anyone give me any advice on a good webcam to use with iChat or Skype?
    Thanks, John

    Hi
http://www.mac-compatible-web-cam.com/ can be a starting point.
With a Mac Pro that has USB 2.0 ports you can get any UVC (USB Video Class) camera as the Mac OS has included a Generic driver for these since OS 10.4.9 (Although it does not always give you all the options Vista might.
UVC tends also to be known as Vista Certified.
They include the X-Box 360 camera which gives quite a Good picture.
The Link I posted links to other site that sell the cameras.
Not all of those sell brand new cameras. (I spotted a Firewire Web Cam on sale from Amazon in the list)
A Firewire camcorder can function as a Web cam without the need for further drivers as well.

  • Headset for 2 devices

    Hi.
I am looking for a bluetooth headset for the following use case.
"I will receive and make phone calls by mobilephone and laptop. I need a headset that works with both of them at the same time".
Feature list tells that BH-607 and BH-904 can be connected to 2 devices. What this actually means? Could both of them fit to my prupose?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Bluetooth stereo headsets for E61i?

As E61i does not support A2DP there are no Nokia bluetooth stereo headsets available. But are they totally incompatible or just working mono then? Asking because my notebook supports A2DP and I just need ONE headset for both...

    Hi,
I think that the adapters are the same. You just need to check that both support stereo sound and look about the same.
And of course, you can always go to a shop and test them. (Which is probably best in any case, since what might be the best for someone might not be best for everyone else.)
