HELP! canon ip1800 printer stops after cups update

Hi All,
After the recent cups update to 1.4.1-1, my little canon pixma ip1800 printer does not work.
I had used a couple of old debian packages to get the printer working when I first bought it: cnijfilter-common and the cnijfilter-ip1800. By using the deb2targz utility to unpack the debs, I was able to just write a short shell script to install the driver, which has worked well for ages.
I downloaded the AUR cnijfilter packages for this printer, installed or built all the dependencies, removed the old debian based printer driver and installed the AUR packages.
However, after a reboot, when I used the cups admin page (http://localhost:631) and tried to install the pixma ip1800, I keep getting the same error:
Bad device-uri "cnij_usb:/dev/usb/lp0"
I just don't understand why the AUR driver is not working, both parts built ok-any ideas?
I need this printer working again! Help.

I have the same printer. In addition to the steps outlined in the news entry I had to delete the printer from the cups admin panel and re-add it. Of course you'll have to redo any customizations you made to the ppd file so before you do this you may want to make a backup of that printer's ppd file (ie. /etc/cups/ppd/ Canon_iP1800_series.ppd ) to reference later.

My Canon i560x printer stops in the middle of print jobs

My Canon i560x printer stops in the middle of print jobs when printing via Airport Extreme. Single-page jobs are fine, but the printer sort of runs out of steam on when printing multiple pages. It simply stalls with a flashing warning light, and if I press the resume button it spits the sheet out. The job remains in the queue until I delete it.
This only happens when printing via the base station. If I connect the printer directly, it happily churns away, printing as many pages as I like.
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

And it's not a Canon- or Tiger-specific
problem, as I've also had similar problems with
different versions of OS X, including Jaguar and
Panther, and also with some HP printers.
Now that is strange indeed. My Canon Pixma 5200 stopped working correctly the minute I upgraded to Tiger. Now I got the 5200R and it works beautifully.
You've probably done all this already, still a few random thoughts:
- Got the current Printer driver ?
- Use Airport Express firmware 5.5.1 (*do not* use 5.6 or 5.7!)
- Make a hard reset of the Airport base
- Disable the Mac firewall (and set up the printer again)
- Try all this with another (temporally) user account
- Repair permission + restart before and after installing drivers

Help Needed in Fixing USB Printer after CUPS Update [SOLVED]

CUPS updated a while ago but I didn't notice any warnings from pacman or whatever. I did later notice on the front page that cups had been upgraded so that usblp is no longer usable. It told me to blacklist usblp, and so I did. I also upgraded the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file as per the instructions.
I still cannot print.
When I plug in my printer, I get the following in /var/log/messages.log:
kernel: usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
kernel: usb 5-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
load-modules.sh: Not loading module 'usblp' for alias 'usb:v03F0p1D17d0100dc00dsc00dp00ic07isc01ip03' because it is blacklisted

I did indeed, though the solutions presented seemed quite convoluted.
Luckily, I have printing working by readding the printer.

Cannot print to printer from firefox-- stopped after an update.

After one of the periodic updates the print function stop working. The printer will cycle pper--but nothing prints. With a capture printer it will produce just blank page(s). The printer and all other print devices work fine from the desktop. I use a fax and some other pdf printers. All work from desktop--none from firefox. I have the lastest version--this machine takes automatic updates from firefox.

The problem still exist. I can print to all devices from IE can not print to any in Firefox. It will give printer selection and go through the motions but only produces blank paper--no image or print at all. This came about after an update that may be has long has a year ago--the last time I tried to print from the browser was that long ago and I stopped trying when it did not work.
I can: get a printer, select it and it will call the spooler and produce a blank sheet of paper per page.
On IE I can print to all devices, fax, printer and other software.

Help! - Printing via Photoshop CS3 to a Canon ip1800 printer

Please be gently with me as i'm new to a Mac............
Prior to my purchase I would print images via Adobe Photoshop CS using Windows OS to a Canon ip 1800 printer and would be sufficiently happy with the results for home printing.
Since purchasing a Mac things have all gone horribly wrong! I am now either producing washed out prints or one's with weird and wonderful colours.
The only reasonable results I have been able to obtain are by either printing in iphoto or by letting the printer manage colour.
This is my current workflow
Photoshop Cs3 edit image
File print
Colour management Document: Select profile Adobe RGB/ SRG (tried both)
Colour handling: Photoshop handles colour
Printer profile: Canon ip1800 series SP2 (For photo paper plus Glossy 11 pp-201)
Rendering intent: Perceptual (tried all to be fair)
Black point compensation: /
Print
Printer: Canon ip1800 series
Preset:Standard
Colour matching (no control all greyed out but led to believe this is correct)
Colour Sync (circle with a dot) Canon colour matching (circle)
Print
Awful result !
I may be doing something completely obviously wrong but this is the same workflow I have previously followed but without the options in the printer driver. I'm guessing but think there might be some double profiling going on. I have had a quick try in lightroom 2 with very similar results.
Any help would be appreciated as its driving me mad!!

Customized Help does not work anymore after patch update.

Hi,
Our ECC system have a customized help (SAP Main Menu -> Help -> Company Help). It stoped working after the kernel upgrade. What do you think made it stop working.
I tried to update also the sapgui patch to 21 but still the help would not work.

hi hello i have a problem my i phone 4 has locked itself with a picture of a usb connector and an arrow pointing to the blue i tunes symbol and it wont reset or unlock or sync or do anything at all .
the problem started when i downloaded the new ios update on the 15/5/2012 and it looked like it was working and then froze for no reason and left me a warning note saying it hadnt completed and the phone has been frozen ever since

Epson stylus photo RX595 Printer stopped after updates

I just updated my computer stuff to 10.5.7 and my printer suddenly stopped working. I actually updates several items, but I imagine it was the OS. I can access the printer utility and it will still give me ink levels and other info, but it won't print. The status just changes to "stopped." Stuff like this makes me want to not update the computer.
Any ideas?

I don't have any answers for you. Something similar happened to me . . . when I went wireless with Apple Airport Extreme. I did everything: read all the postings on the topic . . . and there a zillion! I called Epson, they have NO CLUE. I finally connected the printer directly to my iMac, so I am able to print, but I am still unable to scan.
You might try trashing all the Epson stuff in your apps folder and reinstalling from the discs or from the website. Good Luck.
If anyone else has an idea, I'd love to hear it. I have a drawer full of Epson inkjet cartridges, so am reluctant tow switch to another printer . . . but I am sorely tempted.

FWIW - All apps crash when trying to print on HP (HP Laserjet CP1515N) - no obvious new drivers available at HP site for Mac. No route to contact HP - Basically you're on your own! - I noticed that the printer still worked fine on another Mac in the house - so I worked out that the issue is purely software related.
So I totally removed all refs to HP - reset all printers and went in to all library folders and deleted all residual HP files. I repaired permissions and then re-installed the printer. This turned out to be a pointless waste of time!
I upgraded to Mountain Lion and repeated the procedure above. Pointless!
What was I missing?
Anyway - I did a time machine restore of the same HP printer folder I had been deleting and repaired permissions again and voila! We are back in the game. Horray for Time Machine!
Glad it's all working again - though a little confused and dissapointed in the hours lost in the process.
Wondering if, when my other Macs do the same update, I will have to go through this again for each one?
Wouldn't it be better if the updates were actually beneficial to us rather than distructive?
Wouldn't it be good if the people issuing the updates actually got involved and addressed the issues rather than leaving us to fend for ourselves?
Feel a little miffed - especially with HP. They seem to offer support only for people within warrantee. Am I wrong to feel unsupportted?
Was it them that issued the update? I don't even remember it installing.
I don't expect anyone to answer really - I just thought I'd note this stuff in passing.

VssNullProver stopped after installing Update Rollup 3 for System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 R2

I recently installed Update Rollup 3 for System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 R2.
As part of the update I updated all DPM Agents, including the ones on our Hyper-V Servers (which are part of a cluster). I also rebooted every DPM Protected Servers. After reboot all Hyper-V Servers raise a warning that the VssNullProvider service has stopped.
Backup seems to work properly. I can start the VssNullProvider service manually. But after the next backup the service it is stopped again. Exactly the same issue occurs on our test Hyper-V Cluster. All our Hyper-V Servers run Windows Server 2012 R2 and
we use System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2.
Something is not ok with Update Rollup 3. Any suggestions?

Unable to set printer name after latest update.

I updated my airport extreme with the 7.4.1 updater and now am unable to configure a printer name for my USB connected Canon MP530 with the airport utility. The printer name field in Airport Utiliuty comes up blank, and the secondary device (FAX) has a name. The print queue ends up being named "Canon MP530 FAX - 1" If I set a name for the printer and reload, it is gone on startup. Looks like a bug in the new firmware. Anyone else see this problem?

You might try sending yourself a picture text from your phone; that sometimes helps resolve the issue.

Wiki server - stopped after latest update

After updating the last update the wikiserver seemed to have stopped completely. After reading through several posts to move the /library/collaboration/ .db files and applicationsupport/apple/wikiserver files, we are still having a few issues.

I thought it might be a firewall issue, but doesnt appear to be the case. I have deleted all the wiki's in hopes there may have been a corrupt file, we only had 3 or 4 running. Still doesnt appear to be helping.

Can you please share the latest logs.
The best option would be to use the 7.20 kernel.

In a follow up, The printers are a brother mfc-4800 and an Epson 870. It seems like Apple in the latest update did something to make the software so secure that you are not allowed to print whats in your computer?
