How can I resize my Flash site to fit any screen resolution?
I built a 100% flash site with tiled framing but I have a
problem. My flash was built 766 x 750 pixiels. When viewed at
resolutions greater than 1024x768 the webpage looks great but
anything less than that it looks like @#$@. I know most people
probably view at 1024 x 768. Is there anyway to auto resize based
up on screen resolution or something to detect the screen size and
adjust the webpage accordingly.

You think so? Even if they have their resolution that high
(which is
fairly standard, nowadays), do you think most people maximize
their browsers
to fill that whole area?
> Is there anyway to auto resize based up on screen

There is, indeed. :) Check out the Stage.onResize event in
the
ActionScript 2.0 Language Reference. That event is dispatched
when the
browser (or whatever container) is resized -- in cases where
the SWF is
embedded with percentages. If that's your aim, you'll need to
code against
that event, which can be done like this ...
http://www.quip.net/blog/2006/flash/how-to-position-movie-clips-browser-resizing
It can take a bit of thought, depending on the complexity of
your goal,
but the result is usually worth it. The site in your URL is
already built,
so this wouldn't do much of anything without opening the
hood, so to speak,
and completely rebuilding the engine. A Flash movie has to be
designed and
programmed to respond to the Stage.onResize event.

How do I get the Flash site to work on the server
Hi,
I'm a beginner working with Studio 8. I have the Flash site
working as desired from my desktop, but I have issues once loaded
to the server. Hopefully someone here can point me in the right
direction.
Firstly, I would like the site to work within a non-sizeable
browser window. I am not sure how to do this.
Secondly, when I try to visit the uploaded site, it appears
not to load properly. I see an isolated movie clip loaded on the
screen, but my pre-loader never displays, and there is no animation
at all.
I am not sure where to start looking, but if you do, please
share - grateful, I will be.
-Brianok - here is an update.
For reasons unknow to me, the Flash site works on my pc now
that I re-published the html. Unfortunately, everyone else that I
ask to visit have to refresh their browser before they see it
animate and work.

How to insert videos in flash site
hi
you might have seen on many sites the affect in which small
video clips of real people are imported into flash movies. e.g on a
site some people are working in office and that video is loaded
into the flash site but the people matches with the design of the
site without their actual background etc.
how this kind of video import is done? where i can upload my
own video into flash site's some scene.
thank youHi
thanks for your reply. I am not sure really how should I
classify the videos I am taking about but let me try to explain...
You might have seen NIKE websites about football and
merchandise etc. On those website you will find a footballer
playing with foot ball or if you have seen a site of an energy
drink where there are few dancers, you need to answer few questions
to get to the dance movie of a dancer.
What I want to do is that I want to design a 3D environment
for my flash website where I want to show some people working in
office in a section of the site. For that I will make a video with
my digital camera and will use it in the site. Similarly I want to
show my own videos merged with the website design. So it sounds
like I am acting within the wesite design environment.
I hope I am clear enough now.. -
How to align an all Flash site to top of page
Yep I'm a newbie and I'm assuming this is pretty easy. How do
I eliminate the top border to the following site?
http://totalscript.com/newsite/ts.html
I’m using an HTML with an embedded SWF.
Thank you,
AlexThat top border is in your swf. If you right click in there
you get the flash right click menu.
Since it looks like you are publishing for player 7, I can
assume it is AS2. Try going into your code and adding:
Stage.align = "TC";
This will auto-align the content to the top center of the
player region. -

How do I get the flash site to load an XML without security
I made a music mp3 player but now the XML wont load and the
music player says undefined. I changed security settings in Adobe
Flash Player. But I dont want to have everybody who views it have
to change settings. Is there some type of ActionScript code that
will allow the XML to load without security problems. I have the

Hello, need some advice / help.
I currently have a flash site and I have an AIR app. I need
to use the badge within my flash site. Does anyone know if there is
anyway of using the AIR Badge within the .swf or will I need to
create a normal .html page for this to work.
Your help would be much appreciated. What do you mean by "attacked"? and what makes you think it was attacked because it was Flash, or that the same site, in static HTML would not have been attacted?
Just a review in how Web sites work...
There is NO SUCH THING as a Flash Web site... only HTML, PHP, ASP, etc. sites which happen to have some Flash content.
To verify this for yourself, visit ANY site on the Internet which might be called a "Flash site". Look for the file name extension at the end of the Web address...one thing you will NOT see is .swf as the file extension.
You asked for opinions/views right?
Best wishes,

Hi,

How can I install flash player plugin (version 8) in browser

ThanksVia Javascripting. Look for Flash detection kits at the

As well this forum focuses on database access issues and you
might find more
takers for this type of question in the Flash General forum.

How to publish a small size flash site
I have made a total flash site but the exported site is 50 mb!!
Not a usable size, so I want to know how to make this site 'smaller'.
there are a ton of flash sites on the www, so I must do something wrong..
What is the normal file-size for a flash site?
pleas help.
grtz
DaanTypically a flash file only gets that large when you embed a lot of images or video.
If you want to shrink the size of the SWF, you will want to externalize those assets somehow. If video, use progressive download and an FLVPlayback component. If images, save them to a directory and load them at runtime with a Loader component. Audio can be loaded at runtime very easily as well.
If there is detailed animation over the video that isn't interactive, export the entire animation as a video, and then load that in another file to decrease initial load time.
Typically, these days, a good size SWF comes in around 1-2 MB. Ideally it would be much smaller than that, wherein the initial load should really be about 30-60 kb, so it will open in 1-3 seconds on a 56k connection, and then all other assets load after the initial load. -

Thanks for looking! i am making my first flash site, and im
not sure what to do next in regards to navigating through the site.
I have different sections, home, info, hardware, equipment, etc,
but im not sure how to make each section appear when you click the
corresponding navigation link. i have an idea but im not sure how
to execute it.
Should i make a movie clip for each section (home, info,
hardware, contact), then place each movie clip in its own frame on
the main time line, and on each navigation link button (each one is
a movie clip) use action script and put a gotoAndPlay() code with
the frame number of the corresponding section? so when you click
it, it goes to that frame which has the movie clip that has the
content for that part of site, say contact, or info?? if so how can
i do this?
that sounds really confusing and im sorry but please help out
a beginner! Thank you and happy halloween!

"Targeting specific timelines in a flash movie can be daunting
in the beginning. But if you start from the main timeline (_root)
and build brom there, it becomes easier to understand.
For eg:
If you have 2 movieclips on your main timeline (_root).
Navigation and Pages.
Inside Navigation you have the buttons, and each button is a
separate movieclip.
Inside Pages you have each page, each a separate movieclip.
to target a specific page number, from a button, there are 2
ways you can go about it. The method that Ned suggested is called
RELATIVE.
-meaning that you target FROM WHERE YOU ARE.
the second method is ABSOLUTE.
-meaning you target FROM MAIN TIMELINE.
Relative is good, but can be confusing when using dot syntax.
Absolute is straight forward and easy to understand, and can
be used from anywhere in the whole movie. The downside, is that it
generally requires a bit more typing.
In the example I stated above, it does not require more
typing. simply say:
_root.page.gotoAndStop(number);
This line can be used from anywhere in your movie, at any
timeline depth, and will work with no worries.
You can also have ALL navigation code on the main timeline on
the first frame. Simply designate the path to the specific button
like so:
navigation.home_btn.onPress = function(){
doSomething;
this tells Flash that the button named "home_btn" located
inside the movieclip called "navigation" will have to doSomething
when Pressed.
I hope this helps you understand targeting a bit more.
Good Luck. -
How to make a Flash site more searchable
Hi all,
I was wondering how to make a Flash site more searchable in
search engines. I'm guessing it is with meta tags, can anyone tell
me which meta tags or if there are any other hints or tricks.
Thanks,
MediaMan5335Sad to say MediaMan5335, there's no real defined way to read
a Flash movie file. Currently there are tips and tricks to do it,
but all of them are merely patches to somethin long overdue and
needed. Since Google is setting the trend, the best way to gain
ranking is to follow their set of new rules.
There were several ways to gain rankings, whether is be
paying your way to the top, putting multiple links within your
site, or placing tons of words that would be read by spiders.
Google has multiple articles pertaining to Search Engine
Optizmization or SEO. Head on over to Google and just type in
"Google SEO" and you'll find a multitude of articles.
Right now to answer your question, META KEYWORDS and META
DESCRIPTION are your best tools for METAs. Having legit links
INBOUND and OUTBOUND will help.
Currently there a several companies working on allowing SWFs
to be read by Search Engines. Hopefully this helps answer your
question. SEO can be a daunting thing. -
Help Needed!! embeding a swf widget into a flash site
Hi all.
I am currently making a flash site for a band, and need to
embed an external SWF widget into it.
Its easy enough to embed it into HTML page, but idealy this
site will endup a single SWF file, to make distribution onto the
bands various pages (MYspace etc) easier.
The code to embed in html is:
<embed src="
http://www.soundclick.com/player/V2/mp3player200.swf"
width="200" height="140"
flashvars="bandid=850463&playType=band&ext=1&testMode=0&autoplay=1"
name="MP3PlayerBasic" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
wmode="transparent" pluginspage="
http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
/>
Some one told me it should be no probs to embed a swf with
some sort of LoadMovie command, but he didnt have a qule about
assigning flashvars to it.
Any help here would ge greatly apreciated.
Cheers.
SionI am listening to you and was letting you know that the code that I am trying to use is probably from an old forum. The code that Flash CS4 cranks out is about 10 pages long which seems a little much just to import an .swf with a transparent background. I don't imagine CS6 would be much shorter.
From what I gathered, the html file checks to see what version of Flash you're using as well as what browser. The code for that is insane in my opinion and I am trying to keep my html file for my homepage rather small. I had no problem importing this in DW with a transparent background (when I was using DW) but am using Komodo Edit as my HTML editor now as it didn't come with Production Premium that I just got.
If you know the correct (newer) code, that would import an .swf with a transparency, that would be most be useful. If not I guess I'll just wait for someone to reply that does.
I will try to extract the code from the CS4 HTML file and use that, but did already try it once and it didn't work. If all else fails, I'll just download a trial version of DW and/or Flash CS6 and see if I can figure out how I did it on a website I developed a couple years ago (that I lost the files from in a HD crash). -
How to centre a flash file in web browser
I tried this in the export menu, but nothing seemed to work?
I've placed the file in a table dreamweaver for now, but it looks
rubbish in Internet explorer it's too big, on mac it's fine and
centred. But ideally i'd like the page to centre automatically and
resize if the wndow is too small etc. is this possible through
Flash?
Thanks - OliOk, will try get onto that site.
this is our site:
Parkmill Flash Site
on all our macs it works great because our screens are set
1152 x 870 +, but most screens are set smaller i suppose and hence
the need for the site to shrink if the screen is set for example at
800 x 600 and so on.
havent a clue where to put code when it's suggested as the
reply above
