Help! install jdk in redhat 7.1 linux

I installed jdk1.3.1-02 in redhat7.1 ,and changed profile ,but when I type
java -version
it shows
Kaffe Virtual Machine
Copyright (c) 1996-2000
Transvirtual Techologies ,Inc ,All rights reserved
Engine:Just-in time v3 Version:1.0.6 Java Version :1.1
obviously ,it is not sun's jdk , if I want use sun's jdk ,how to do it ?

hey
type following commands to find out where the kaffe is installed
1]
locate kaffe
OR
2]
find / -name kaffe
Or you can find out which kaffe rpm is installed by typing following command
rpm -qa | grep kaffe
after getting rpm file name you can simply uninstall the rpm by using
rpm -e <rpm-name>
OR
if you dont want to do that go to the executable file of kaffe
by saying vim kaffe
and comment the line that shows this message
try these options
i am sure one fo them will work

  • Installing Netbeans on RedHat Enterprise 5 Linux

    Hello,
After installing both the jre-6u2 and jdk-6u2 RPMs I have had no problems getting netbeans to work...
However what caused me to stay up rather late trying to get this thing installed originally was the fact that the installer asks specifically for the location of the j2se sdk location (not the normal jdk) but when the path to that sdk is given it says that it is not a compatible sdk. I doubt that this is a spelling mistake on the installer but I am confused to why the j2se-sdk is not needed.
If anyone can clear this up for me, I would be greatful.

When you installing Java on Linux, installable should not ask for JAVA_HOME as you mentioned "Please ensure that you have Java 6 or newer installed on your system and accessible in your PATH or by setting JAVA_HOME "
Check this link for more info, it suppose to be as good as Windows

    Hi,
I am unable to install Oracle 9.0.1 on Linux RedHat, tried many times. While installing i get following errors-
"Error in invoking target install of makefile
    /usr/oracle/9.0.1/plsql/lib/ins-plsql.mk"
"error in invoking target ioracle of makefile

"Error loading native library : libnjni.so"

    Any workaround ???
    Thanks in advance.

There are many versions of RedHat. Your post indicates you are using one of them, but your post really does not give a hint as to which one. Funny thing is - different versions have different install requirements.
I really don't understand why operating system version is such a big secret. Especially since it is logically so critical to installation issue. Even when installing on Windows, the first questions is 'which Windows'.
You have, of course, followed the suggestions at http://www.puschitz.com and noted the errors and workarounds, have you not.
Especially about things like packages and versions.

  • How to install JDK on LINUX Ubuntu on system with no net/wireless?

    Hello!
I need to install JDK on LINUX Ubuntu on system with no net/wireless connection.
    What are the commands?
    Thank you!
    Edited by: 800512 on 07:29 10/01/2011

    - Download your release of choice from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
    - Put the file on a USB thumb drive
    - Mount that drive on the target machine
    - Follow the installation instructions.
The Linux/Ubuntu downloads of the JDK are offline installers (i.e. the downloaded file contains everything that's required). Only Windows currently has an online installer (smaller initial download, but requires a net connection for the actual installation)
Alternatively: install the OpenJDK from the official Ubuntu packages using apt-zip (http://wiki.debian.org/AptZip).

  • /usr/bin/java Permission denied after installing JDK on linux

    Hi Guys,
I installed jdk-6u1-linux-i586-rpm.bin and I am getting strange errors like this:
1 When I simply run "java" in shell I get this:
    /usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javaf10273: Permission denied
    /usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javaf10273: Success
    2. When I try to run an sh file I get this:
    Warning: -ms128m not understood. Ignoring.
    Warning: -mx128m not understood. Ignoring.
    /usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javae10796: Permission denied
    /usr/bin/java: line 67: /tmp/javae10796: Success
I searched around and as I understand the linux package may have contained some older java version, and the comp is still trying to use that.
But these notes did not say how to uninstall that older version, orr what to do.
Can you please maybe point me somewhere?
    Thanks,
    Gyuri

The RPM installer for the Sun JDK installs Java in /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_01. Just add /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_01/bin to your path before /usr/bin and it should be fine.
Additionally, there are no -ms and -mx parameters, those should be -Xms and -Xmx.

  • I Installed JDK but there is no Icon! Help!

Hello, I installed JDK and it says it's installed yet I cannot find out how to start it up to do my "Hello World" test (I am new to this programming thing). What should I do to find the Java programming application I just installed? Thank you in advance!

Installing the Java JDK does not create anything "to click on". You type commands into Windows' cmd window. Read this tutorial. Begin with "Getting Started" and don't skip anything.

  • New to java, having trouble with Installing JDK on Ubuntu

    Hello, everyone???
I'm try to install j2se jdk-1_5_0_15-linux-i586-rpm.bin on my Ubuntu Linux 7.10, I ran the self-extract file and everything just seemed fine. But when I get to setting the system environment variable , something must have gone wrong. I have read from books which say that I should set 'CLASSPATH=.:/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_15/lib/dt.jar:/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_15/lib/tools.jar'. But I can't find a 'tools.jar' file in the 'lib' directory. There is a 'tools.pack' instead of it.
When I try to test the installation with: 'javac --version', I got :
Error occurred during initialization of VM
    java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object
I don't know why. Do anybody can help me with this problem?

I used the Synaptic version of Java. I don't like where it puts the JDK in a protected folder. I want development stuff in my home folder. The Sun download with the NetBeans is the best, IMHO. You put your install where you want it. NetBeans then slams the pathname with every javac and java you run. Works great for development. Then, becomes the FireFox problem -- the java plug-in. Because I'm AMD-64 I have to use the IceTea java plug-in.
Would Sun please, please write the 64-bit plug-in?
The last irritating problem you will have is running java from a Terminal. That takes internal links in your File System. You can do what NetBeans does: java -classpath=~home/desktop/jdk1.6.1/bin/myPrograms myProgram. Or, you can make SymLinks. I keep a bookmark to this topic from the Ubuntu Forums:

  • Does it exist a JDK 1.4.2 for Linux X86 64bit (not Itanium!!)

    Hi Gurus,
    I'm installing a NW7.0 on a Linux (x86_64).
As you know a JDK 1.4.2 needs to be in place before running sapinst.
However on SUN website there is no JDK for that type of machine. The itanium version doe snot work and if I installed a X86 (32bit) version I'm having problems with sapinst and requests a 64 version.
What I did is to download the JDK 1.5.0 for Linux x86_64 but I'm afraid that I may have later problems as the documentation just talks about 1.4.2.
How is it possible that the installation guide requests something that does not exist? Most probably I'm missing something.
Any help appreciated and points awarded.
    Regards,
    Alberto Sabate

    Frank,
Thanks for your response. I have install it now and I'll try it tomorrow starting a new sapinst installation. I have such a headache after 14 hours of Linux that I can do it tonight. I'll get back  to this tread tomorrow. Thanks.
