HELP MAC OS doesnt boot up SOS

Hello,
I have a serious problem with my Macbook from 2007: I get a folder sign wi a questikn mark when I want to boot up and the system doesn't start. I already tried to use every command while booting up including the single user mode but it doesn't work. I dont have access to my system cd at the moment because I'm travelling.
Is there any other way to get a system cd to come into the repair mode?
Many thanks in advance
Tobias

Based on your profile, I have to wonder if you attempted to upgrade yesterday and failed because of some underlying system issue. Rule#1 never upgrade during travel without a couple pocket drives to backup to.
That said you can try single user mode with command-s at startup, where command key has the Apple logo or a 4 leaved clover icon. Upon entering at the command line type
/sbin/fsck -fy
and hit enter. repeat until it says it can't repair, or repair is finished
if repair is finished type
/sbin/mount -uw
and hit enter. Then type
exit
followed by enter key.
If the repair is unable to be done, you need to recover your data, to an
external drive if not backed up using one of the data recovery tools here*
http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html#RECOVER
then try Alsoft Disk Warrior to repair the drive.
If that doesn't work, replace the hard drive.

  • Urgent help, Mac won't boot! :(

    Hi Folks,
Is anyone able to write a quick procedure for this?
    http://www.davidglover.org/2009/09/t-mobile-usb-stick-120-zte-mf626-on-snow-leop ard.html
I've copied the file to a USB key and booted my Mac in to Single User Mode, other than this I am totally lost and need my Snow Leopard fixed for tomorrow
    Thanks a lot in advance

If you don't know what you named it, then at the command line enter:
    df
You will get some output like the following:
Filesystem 512-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on
    /dev/disk1s3 325596176 19479216 305604960 6% /

    /dev/disk0s3 66197496 19684552 46512944 30% /Volumes/Windows
You should be able to identify it from the results. You know the capacity of your flash drive and you may remember what you named it by looking in the last column.

  • Help Mac Pro wont boot up

I have acquired a Mac Pro from a friend. It is an earlier model mac but Im not sure how early. My problem is, when I press the power button, the power light flashed and the built in speaker plays a really high pitched buzzing noise followed by a single low pitch beep. Sometimes it will stay powered on and other times it will just cut itself off. If it stays on the high pitched buzzing from the speaker will continue until you manually cut it off. It also doesn't display anything on screen...

If you bought the Mac from a friend get your money back. That high pitched noise and low pitched beep most probably mean the motherboard is hosed.

  • HELP - Mac Prp Freezes when Installing Boot Camp Drivers

    Please HELP me!
I just installed Windows XP Pro SP2 on its own hard disk on my Mac Pro using Boot Camp.
Then I inserted the Leopard Install DVD and started to install the boot camp drivers.
In the middle of installing the "Intel chipset" my Mac Pro froze. The might mouse no longer would move the cursor etc. After waiting 10 minutes, I just rebooted.
In the troubleshooting section of the Guide, it suggested I re-run the Boot Camp Drivers and click repair. I could not see any "Repair" option. The only option was INSTALL. I tried to install the Boot Camp drivers again and the mac Pro froze again (now showing Broadcom drivers).
Any ideas? This is really frustrating.
    Rob

I was able to complete the boot camp drivers wizard in Windows. But I had to first disconnect my firwire iSight and my Apple USB Modem.
But now when I reboot I still see a new Hardware Found Wizard. It looks like it did not load the iSight Drivers.
Now when I run the Boot Camp Drivers I see REPAIR. I tried that but that did not solve the problem. No drivers are being loaded for my firewire iSight. In Device Manager I see question marks beside iSight.
    Any Ideas?

  • Help, new to Mac.. iMac boot but keyboard doesn't work...

Not sure what happened but the mac would now boot to ask for password. The keyboard does not respond. Act as if it not paired. I boot with the OS cd and the keyboard works fine. So I not it's not a hardware issue.
One more note, I put a usb keyboard, and when I type the user name, it appears the keyboard has been remapped.
    Anyone seen this?
    thx
    Jerry

A bump up! Maybe someone will see it!
Also, try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Cheers! DALE

  • Need Mac to automatically boot as first partition (HELP)

hi guys, i have windows and mac on a different partition and i use Alt button to select,
How do i automatically make MAC my first partition to boot
    any advice would be great!!
I should probs state that i am running on a Imac27" running on the I3 processor and have the latest MAC OS 10.6 or something like that (bought this mac about christmas so not too old!)

    Hi,
    boot your Mac into OSX.
In OSX go to System Preferences then Startup Volume and set your OSX volume to be the default.
On the next reboot your Mac should automatically boot into OSX.
To get to Windows again you would have to use the Alt/Option-key at startup.
    Regards

  • MacBook doesnt boot when wi-fi router is on.

    Greetings.
Thats pretty weird but it is how it is. First time my mac refused to boot i was really confused: tried everything and it didnt help: i saw a loader on the screen but it didnt boot further. Then i decided to re-install Mac Os. Did it, but next time i turned my Mac off i wasnt able to boot it again.
A miracle solved the problem: occasionally i unplugged power supply from my wi-fi router (D-Link DI-524 that is. Latest firmware update installed. original Release:B), and voila my MacBook did a happy beep-beep and started to load a system. So as it is now my MacBook Doesnt boot when my router is on and it does boot if i turn router off.
My MacOsX 10.4.1 is freshly installed with all latest updates that i downloaded via "update software" thing. Did no tuning to it, almost no 3rd party software installed so far, apart from MS Office 2004. My question is pretty simple: How can i make my MacBook boot without unplugging power from my router (since its pretty weird to do it every time i turn my Mac on).
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you for your help.

Could it just be stuck trying to join a Network, or mounting a Share of some kind?

    nicolas

What does apear on the screen?  You could start up in safe mode by holding down the shift key while starting up. You should then go to a login screen. Or you could hold down the R key, which should get you to the restore  option. Then you could use the utilities to repair permissions and repair you boot volume. If you use the restore option, do not restore. go to the top and use the utilities option.

  • IBook doesnt boot anymore

    Servus alltogether,
I really have a BIG problem with my iBook here. I've installed the Screen Spanning Doctor in order to activate a second screen, and my iBook doesnt boot anymore. It gets to the point with the grey apple and the wheel, and then (using apple+v) there seems to be a problem by loading a file called dyld
    dyld:library not loaded: usr/lib/libz.1.dylb
    etc/rx line 262 55 trace / BPT trap couldnt find root user usr/sbin /update
I tried to reset nvram in open firmware without any sucess. I can log on in single user mode, but i dont know what i can do now from there.
It would be also very helpfun if soneone could tell me how to mount a external hard drive (I have a Lacie hard drive, perhaps I can rescue my data. Its still there, I checked it in single user mode.) or a usb-stick.
Perhaps it is also helpful when I tell you this: It is a G4 ibook, using the newest patch of mac os x tiger, and my graphic chip is a ati readon 9200 (which should work with the screen spanning doctor but apparently didnt).
I am really in trouble here, because I need this iBook for university. So please help me if you can.

Try starting up from a CD (Apple-C) or in safe mode: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393
Either of these methods should get your booted. Then, back up your data! Next, try Disk Utility to fix your disk. You may have to reinstall the OS. Luckily, you have that backup now.

cannot get my mac mini to boot. Help?

  • Mac OS X booting... Won't boot

This afternoon I installed the new security update on my MacBook and restarted it as usual, but when booting again it got stuck in the phase where the screen is blue and there's the box saying: Mac OS X booting.. and the blue bar runs.
I tried to switch it off and start again but it always gets stuck on this phase. I even left it run for couple hours but nothing happened.
I found this http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8862343&#8862343 discussion on the forum even though the problem is slightly different since my MacBook gets all the way to the booting phase with the blue bar running. So anyways, I tried to boot my MacBook with the installation disk 1 and used the disk utility to verify and repair the Macintosh HD but it couldn't find anything to repair. After that I rebooted it but the same problem occured once again.
I've zeroed the PRAM memory and it didnt help either. I'm helpless and I have no idea what to do now. Could anyone please try to help me..?
I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.11 just to make sure.

So sorry I couldn't reply--I had to leave for class shortly after I posted here.
Yes, you could have used your iPod as a temporary storage spot, but moving your data there would have required a working computer.
Good to hear you got things working--and thanks for the star! If you need more help, come back

  • Mac will not boot from hard drive or install disc

    Hello All
In dire need of advise...my intel Mac will not boot, even tried booting to the Snow Leopard install disc and all I'm getting is the white screen, apple logo and the wheel.
Just before this happened there was a buzzing sound like the fan was about to fail but that is only a guess on my part. Is there a keyboard shortcut to boot to a terminal window or similar to force the computer to boot from the install disc.
Thanks in advance for any help offered.
    Warren

    Hi Warren
Try holding the Option key and see if it will boot into Startup Manager, where you should be able to choose from a good Drive or your install Disk.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1533
or the D key and run the Apple Hardware Test.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
Also note: key commands may require a USB Keyboard if your using a wireless and it has become unpaired.
