HELP ME WITH HDX18 CPU UPGRADE GONE WRONG

I am not a regular member of this forum and logged on today because I really need help
Here is the story. I wanted to upgrade my old HP HDX18 to the Q9100 processor which is the highest one listed in the service manual. I studied the manual intently and made sure this was an ok upgrade.
I disassembled the notebook exactly as it was done in the manual down to the motherboard. I installed the Q9100 and then reassembled exactly as it was in the manual. I found with the hard drive connected, a Crucial M4 SSD-solid state drive, the computer came on for about 10 seconds getting to the windows logo and then shut down. However, with the drive disconnected I found that I could access the bios and the computer would not shut down.
I decided to reinstall the old processor and the exact same thing happened. I ran diagnostic tests while in the bios screen with the drive connected and it appeared all was ok. When the drive was reconnected I got this error screen.
I did use Phobya HeGrease. The Q9100 processor was a used processor off of ebay. I looked on the Intel website and it is unlikely this is an engineering sample.
I searched the internet and found that some others have had this exact same problem and they corrected by reseating the CPU. I looked at the CPU again and found that this seems fairly simple. It seems like its in their securely. Its just a drop in and screw. When its locked, I cant seem to get it out with my hands.
I read some articles about how too much Thermal paste might cause this to happen and I probably had on a bit too much.
So please help me out with any ideas. Right now my HDX18 is in a pile on the floor.

The good thing is that the cpu is probably not the issue. I have noticed that a memory test failed so it could be magnetized during the disassembly/assembly. If you remove the ssd and are able to access the BIOS, it might suggest that the problem is the ssd. Make also sure that the memory is compatible with the cpu as better cpus support faster memory.

Hard Drive and RAM upgrade gone wrong - please help!

I have a 2+ year old Mac Mini Core Solo that I recently decided to upgrade. Originally it had a 80GB hard drive and 512MB of RAM and I installed a 250GB Western Digital drive and upgraded to 2GB of RAM.
Everything went smooth with the reinstall of OSX and the Mini was actually working, Internet was working etc. I was in the process of downloading and installing all of the Mac SW updates and that went on for several minutes, it actually got through most of them and then a screen came up to tell me to restart the computer. I did and then got the same screen. Which was the gray screen with the restart message and a message like this:
panic (cpu 0 caller 0x00398C43); unable to find driver for this platform: "ACPI"
(Then there was a bunch of hexidecimal debugging jibberish and then some kernel version info.)
So I held down on the option key while doing the restart and tried to start from the internal disc and also start from the install disc. I can get to where I've reinstalled the first disc again, but then when I have to restart the computer to load the second disc I get the gray restart screen again with the above info.
During one of the attempts I brought up utilities and did a scan of the internal HD for defects and all the repair steps but it always said that everything was fine. When I bring up the general computer info it shows that I have 2GB of RAM. So it recognizes the two items that I installed.
So what do I do now? I am stuck on this issue and out of ideas, I havent tried to put back in the old hardware to test it, (but I would prefer not to as that doesnt really help me with the new stuff I bought).
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to offer as much detail as possible in case there is something in there that triggers an idea with someone. I dont live in a huge city so theres no apple store within several hours drive from here.

It is a kernel panic and unfortunately it can be caused by a bunch of things. But I think I have it figured out for now.
My first step was to put the old RAM back in with the new HD, no change with the problem.
Then I put the old HD back in with the old RAM (original config) and everything was back to normal.
Then I tried the new RAM with the old HD and everything is also good. (and faster!)
So it would appear that the new HD was flakey and needs to go back to OWC.
Hey, I'm a pro at taking apart and rebuilding a Mini now!

Help!! Where have I gone wrong with CSS ??

I am having a few problems with our website (www.grateexpectations.com) as of yesterday evening. The website appears fine in safari (online and off line) but a mess in firefox and chrome and maybe explorer (online and off line) .
I have never experienced this before, I have checked all styles and code. Could it be a virus? I have updated with Dreamweaver CC at work and CS5.5 at home. Is this the problem??

Download Helper, even with paid converter upgrade, gives "Invalid Capture File" errors and will not record audio, with "File Creation Error - Unable to rename/copy audio file" Error.

Download Helper Screen Capture worked to capture video if the default "no audio" option is active. But, no audio. The "speakers" or "microphone" audio options are confusing....the audio to be captured is from the video, so what do you choose? With either "speakers" or "microphone" selected, the captured file has poor audio and no video. Re-capture efforts (speakers) get "Invalid capture file error" and "File Creation error- Unable to rename/copy audio file"
The paid upgrade of "Converter" doesn't work.
Instructive documentation - not very good.
Suggestions - Need time delay between initiation of "Record" and starting the video to be recorded.
Could use timer tracking of the record process.
Are there operating system limitations? (Have Windows XP Pro)

Old iPad ios (3.2.2) help needed with backup and upgrade

Sorry in advance for what I'm sure will be a remedial post for most everyone on here.
I have an iPAD ios 3.2.2.. I know that's really old, but I have been afraid of upgrading for one reason and one reason alone: Smurfs Village! I know it sounds silly, but my fiancée plays it all the time and I'm terrified of losing all her stuff.
So, I hook iPAD to laptop and see most of my stuff (videos, some games, etc.) in the iTunes ready for what I assume is a backup, but no Smurfs Village! I see posts out there on the Internet saying to just sync to Game-Center and yada yada yada, but that's obviously a "no go" with my version of the OS and i can't upgrade until I make sure everything is backed up...... See this vicious cycle that I have gotten myself into?
I'm really kind of embarrassed typing this. I've had a couple of Apple notebooks over the years,but never anything that runs IOS so I'm really kind of lost and scared to do anything without some solid and sound advice from ths forum. I'm not even sure that if I sync to iTunes on my PC, will it back EVERYTHING up before I upgrade the OS. or is it just certain things that get backed up? Do I need to purchase a third party app? See, I am really lost here so someone please have mercy on me so I can get this thing (Smurfs Village) backed up and restored while still keeping my marriage on the right track.

If it's an app then it should reside in your iTunes library. If it doesn't you can transfer purchases

When you sync a backup of the device is done, which would contain app data among other things. You can also select iPad under devices, right click and manually back up.

UPGRADE GONE WRONG...

I have an iPod photo...I had around 7000 songs, a few photos...and some downloads from limewire on it. I upgraded to the latest version...so here is what happened:
1. Suddenly, my music collection will no longer fit on my ipod...previously, the collection was circa 6k songs 17 megs....it is now 70+megs
2. All songs in the library are at least dulpicated, some quintupled.
3. My limewire dls are now showing 1.6mb each (really).
I wish I hadn't bothered, I restored my ipod as it had backed up with everything, twice, treble, etc...
I spent a few hours, manually deleting the EXTRA repeats in iTOONS library but, still no result worth mentioning.
Can I have my old itunes and disk space back, I had photos and all sorts on there too and it's all messed up
Solution??
Any help would be most welcome.

Additional, not that it will help...
after having dl the latest itoons, when the ipod was docked, it showed around half space free, but when sync was done..., you guessed it, not enough space....on the ipod...so what on earth is going on???

IOS 8 upgrade gone wrong - how do I get my data back?

I was upgrading my iPhone 5S to iOS 8 today using iTunes. Halfway through iTunes through an "unknown" error and recovered my phone back to the factory settings. I don't have any backups on either iTunes or iCloud (don't ask why).
I did a search for data recovery tools and it seems there are many out there that claim can get data back. Has anyone used any of these data recovery tools. Can they recover data in this situation?
I have lots of contacts, Messages and Notes which are gone forever if I can't recover them.

If your phone is back to factory condition, there's nothing to recover.
I won't ask why you didn't make a backup before upgrading as you requested. Doesn't mean I'm not baffled.

Help required with WLC software upgrade

I have a customer with WLC 4402 in use, running software version 7.0.98.0, and supporting 11 APs at present. The customer wants to enlarge the WLAN, which involves increasing the number of APs. I have purchased a new WLC5508, and have installed it onto the network alongside the 4402. the 5508 is running software version 7.0.116.0. Because the wireless network is critical to the user, we want to move the APs over to the new controller while the network is up and running, then remove the 4402.
However, when we set the 5508 as the master controller, or tell one of the APs to use the 5508 as its primary controller, the AP connects to the new controller, downloads the new software version, attempts to load it but reports an error with the unzipped file size of the software and fails to boot. formatting the flash on the AP, then disconnecting the 5508 from the network and rebooting the AP allows it to connect to the 4402, it downloads the older software and boots as normal. A new AP, if connected to the 5508 in a test scenario (ie no 4402) connects, downloads and boots perfectly.
I have the upgrade software to allow the 4402 to be upgraded to 7.0.116.0, but I am concerned that, if this is installed, the existing APs will then fail to boot from the 4402 or the 5508.
all APs are 3502s, running IOS version 12.04(23c)JA when connected to the 4402 and 12.04(23c)JA2 on the 5508.

Your mentioning a corrupt image makes me wonder - we had a lot of trouble setting up the initial config on the new WLC, getting a lot of launch failures. Eventually things seemed to settle down (it certainly booted successfully first time this morning) and getting an AP to connect without a problem made me hope it was just a quirk of the configuration wizard, but I think I will try a reboot of the WLC before I do anything else, just to check it is stable.
If it is a corrupt image it may take a little while to sort, as we have not as yet got a support contract on the 5508 - the plan was to upgrade the existing contract on the 4402 once they were swapped out, but I'll let you know whats going on

it is really true that your headphone sound reduce to half.and i prefer that don't upgrade your phone and no any new codec for playing audio or video files added to new firmwares.
and if NSU give error to you instead of firmware you should try the other kind of internet connections.or use proxy server.my problem solved with this work i hope this for you too.

G4 with OWC CPU upgrade keeps freezing

I upgraded my Quicksilver with OWC last spring. At the same time upgraded the RAM to 512+256 (original) and 10.3.9 (7W98).
The computer was given to my by my parents who thought it never worked right (I didn't believe them).
Now if the computer is used for browsing (only Safari or Safari and mail open) for 45 minutes, most likely there has been a freeze and restart. Worst performance is when my daughter is visiting NickJr. or Disney and playing the games (mix of Java and Flash). Then it is every 10 minutes or so.
I don't know where to look to diagnose, any suggestions?

to find out what version the firmware is, go to (Apple Menu)->About This Mac->More Info...
the firmware version is the "Boot ROM Version"
i'm not sure what the latest version for the Quicksilver is, but I think it's probably 2.1.9 or something...actually

HD Upgrade gone WRONG!!! OS dvd wont boot after HD format

I just upgraded my original 160 GB Hard Drive to the Seagate Momentus 500GB HD 7200 RPM. Loaded in the install dvd for Leopard 10.5 that I was sent from Apple Care. Went into Disk Utilities and formated the HD into one partition, GUID and Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)(Source: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2131586&tstart=45).
Then I went to actually install the OS, using "first time install" and an error message popped up. I ejected the dvd to try again, now my Macbook wont boot from the installation dvd. I am holding down "C" as the computer turns on and the "apple", a folder with question mark" and a "circle with line through it" keeps flashing. When I hold down the "Option" button I see the icon for the dvd but when clicked nothing happens.

Is your old hard drive functional? One option that avoids the install disc problem altogether is to clone your old drive.
Replace the old drive in the MacBook. Then purchase a USB SATA enclosure--these can be had cheap most anywhere these days--and put the new drive in that.
Plug the new drive into your MacBook, and use SuperDuper! to create a bootable clone:

WRT160nv2 Firmware upgrade gone wrong

Im having trouble with my WRT160nv2. I upgraded to the latest firmware using the Internet explorer and .bin file downloaded from this website. After the upgrade completed i tried to restart but the router is no completely no responsive. I cant access it via wired ethernet or wireless and its not broadcasting a signal. I downloaded the setup wizard and it cannot access the router either. Anyone else have similair issues or have any input would be greatly appreciated.

As you upgraded the router's firmware,I would suggest you to reset the router for 35 seconds,power cycle the and re-configure the router from scratch.

Another iphoto 6 "upgrade" gone wrong

I am not sure what happened. I am using a PowerBook G4 and was running iPhoto 5.0.4. Somewhere along the line, somehow, I upgraded to iPhoto 6. I would have never paid for it...maybe a trail version got thown into the automatic updates??
I now have both library.iphoto and library6.iphoto files in my iphoto file.
When I go to open iPhoto i get an error that reads.
You can't open your current iphoto library using this version of iphoto.
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.
I am not sure how to fix this. Please help

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Virtually every major release of iPhoto has involved changes to the library structure. When you upgrade there is a message saying that iPhoto needs to upgrade your library and that it will not be readable by earlier versions of the app.
The only fix for your issue is to upgrade to the same version as your parents.
Alternatively, you can access the DVD via the Finder and drag the pics from the Originals folder to your iPhoto. You'll get the pics but none of the albums, slideshows, metadata etc.

Please help me with my CPU configuration

I just purchased a MSI K7N2 Delta-L nForce2 Ultra 400 motherboard and a AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 2.08GHz 333FSB Processor (Retail). I installed everything but when I boot my post screen says I only have a XP 2000+ and when I go into my BIOS i dont see anywhere to change that. Also my FSB settings in my bios only goto 233 and acording to the Motherboard specs it supports 333. Right now the FSB is set to 100 and if I change it to anythign else the computer wont boot unless i clear the CMOS..
Please Help me!! I am at my wits end..

So, you've got a 2600+ 333FSB - okay. The problem is that you're running it at 100mhz front side bus, but this doubled, so it reality you're running at 200mhz FSB. To sort out your problem, you need to set it to 166 (x2=333mhz). I wouldn't try putting it up to 233 again - that's making your system try to work at 466mhz FSB - probably bad for it in the long run. 8o
Instead of going through all these shenanigans, its probably easier to to pick 'High Performance' defaults in BIOS - it'll figure it out for itself then

Help me with this. my dashboard gone crazy

Help, everytime I press the volume button of my macbook, my dashboard appears instead of increasing the volume. but when I press the original keys for the dashboard, it wont appear. I created a mess! I feel like my macbook is so dirty. How can I bring back the original settings of my dashboard. uuggghhh. pls help me. Btw, im new to mac os so pls understand. no harsh comments

Just check the Dashboard and Expose setting and just fix the shortcut keys there.
