well, that still isn't much to go off of. I give it a try though.
I guess you want to parse out the relevent data out of the xml file and then decide on your favorite delimated file format for Excel. Two popular formats are comma delimated:
"info1","info2","info3","info4"
and tab delimeted:
info <tab> info2 <tab> info3 <tab> info4
Excel should be able to unsestand either of these formats.

Hi Guys,
I need to generate the XML from Excel file. The XML file will have the definition like this:

<birthdate>27/11/2008</birthdate>
<gender>Male</gender>
</people_list>
The Excel file will look like this:
A B C
1 Fred Bloggs 10/21/2008 Male
2 ABC 12/23/2008 Female

All the values in name,birthdaye,gender will come from the Excel file. I am having 100 rows in the Excel file with the data and I want to parse this excel file and create the XML file with the above template.
Any ideas how to do this?

Hi Mahesh,
there are tons of ways to do what you need. It all depends on how your workflow is organized and how complicated it may become.
Alternative 1:
Export your Excel file as a cvs and convert cvs to XML (which shouldn't be so hard).
Pro: Relative easy transformation.
Con: Every time you want to convert the Excel file to XML you first needs to export it out of Excel by a manual step.
Alternative 2:
Save you Excel file as XML (e. g. the new *.xslx documents) and transform it as you like.
Pro: Very clean way to do this. You can access the single source Excel file directly from Java. No further steps needed.
Con: It's very very hard to program because the Excel xml structure is ridiculously complex.
Alternative 3:
You can create a little Excel VBA Script which generates the XML File.
Pro: Easy programing.
Con: Needs some experience in Visual Basic 6 programming.
Alternative 4:
Use http://jexcelapi.sourceforge.net/ or any other Excel-API to Access the Excel application out of Java.
Pro: Clean way to do it. You need no further manual actions to prepare something. (maybe the most flexible and at the same time easyest way)
Con: Additional license.

There can be any 'n' number of <Form1>'s in one XML.But I want to get only the details of the person whose TotalEarnings>1million. Details include
Name->Ttl,Fore,Sur
which in this case would be MR,ABC1,XYZ1
Address->Line,Line,Postcode
which in this case would be ADD_LINE_1,ADD_LINE_2,PST CDE
Birthdate
which in this case would be 0001-01-01
Gender
which in this case would be "null" as there is no Gender tag present
Details->TotalEarnings,TotalDeduction

2. User dbms_instr find the location of <Form1> in a loop
3. For every occurence of <Form1> I find <TotalEarnings> value and check if this is greater than 1 million.
4. If true, I use dbms_instr to get the values of all the tags inside <Form1>
5. The drawback of using dbms_instr is that it gets the value of first occurence of whatever sting we supply.In this case dbms_instr(xml,'<Gender>',position of Form1) will not return null whereas it will return "Female" from the next form. This is wrong as it doesnt belong to the person who earns more than a million.
Can anyone suggest a way to fetch the values that only belong to the form of the person who earns more than a million?

than a million?Why on earth are you using dbms_instr for this? Oracle has built in XML functionality for use against XMLTYPE data, such as the ExtractValue method and the use of XPATH expressions.
I'd suggest you start reading some of the manuals regarding XML functionality in Oracle rather than trying to manually parse it all.

Storing data from XML files in Oracle DB

How to create Inbound Idoc from XML file-Need help urgently

Hi,
can any one tell how to create inbound Idoc from XML file.
we have xml file in application server Ex. /usr/INT/SMS/PAYTEXT.xml' we want to generate inbound idoc from this file.we are successfully able to generate outbound XML file from outbound Idoc by using the XML port. But not able to generate idoc from XML file by using we19 or we16.
Please let me know the process to trigger inbound Idoc with out using XI and any other components.

Hi .. Did either of you get a result on this?
My question is the same really .. I am testing with WE19 and it seems SAP cannot accept an XML inbound file as standard.
I see lots of mention of using a Function Module.
Am I correct in saying therefore that ABAP development is required to create a program to run the FM and process the idoc?
Or is there something tht can be done with Standard SAP?

Currently in fusion we are generating a pdf file using given Rtf template and dataModal source through Ess BIPJobType.xml .
This is generating pdf successfully.
As per requirement from Oracle GSI team, they need index xml file of corresponding generated pdf file for their own business scenario.

You need to add your info to the XML.
So something like:

Then in your detailregion:

Description:
In the above code snippet I am storing the data in an xml file(you know xml is used to store and transport data ) called 'xml_accontextdir.xml' that is uploaded into the MIME repository at path 'SAP/PUBLIC/BC/xml_files_accontext/xml_accontextdir.xml'.
The below API is used to read a file in MIME repo and convert it into a string that is stored in ' xmldata'. (This is just a raw data that is got by appending the each line of xml file).

mr->get( EXPORTING i_url     = 'SAP/PUBLIC/BC/xml_files_accontext/xml_accontextdir.xml'
              IMPORTING e_content = xmldata ).

Here the trasnsformation 'id ' is used to conververt the source xml 'xmldata' to resulting internal table itab_accontextdir, that have same structure as our xml file 'xml_accontextdir.xml'. In the RESULT root of the xml file has to be specified. (In my the root is 'shiva').
Things to be taken care:
One of the major problem that occurs when reading the xml file is 'format not compatible with the internal table' that you are reading into internal table. Iin order to get rid of this issue use one more tranformation to convert the data from the internal table into the xml file.

        SOURCE shiv = t_internal_tab
        RESULT XML xml.
    CATCH cx_root INTO l_o_error.
ENDTRY.

This is the same transformation that we used above but the differnce is that the SOURCE and RESULT parameters are changed the source is now the internal table and result is *xml *string. Use xml browser that is available with the ABAP workbench to read the xml string displayed with proper indentation. In this way we get the format of xml file to be used that is compatable with the given internal table.

XML data upload only from .xml file

Can anyone let me know is ther any way how I can upload the data from .xml file into Oracle Table.
Note: I just want to upload the data from xml file; not entire .xml file.

How to retrieve image from XML file

I am new to XML. So any best guidance is appreciated.
The application requirement is to display image retrived from uploaded xml file in file upload section of our application. And store that image in database.
In my XML file , images & strings & numbers & booleans are there . I am able to save everything in database except images .
I am using JSF, Seam & Hibernate combination. In my Hibernate entity class i took BLOB datatype for image.
I am using following tags in my Xhtml file to display image

But image is not displayed in Xhtml file
I am using org.w3c.dom.Document for retrieving node name & corresponding value in that node in XML file.
I am getting code like below for Image when i am logging all values from XML files in my bean class .
