Help needed in servlet sessions

hi,
I m having following servlet with the logon and logout request..
and my problem is that I don't want 2session with same clientID
means a client want to log in ( who is currently logged in with say ClientID=5)
with same ClientID (=5) then he won't be able to do that.. and i m invalidating the session
when client hits logout button ( i don't want to use session time out) but what if he just
shut down his browser without logout. In that case i want to invalidate that session
immediately (as it is necessary for first requirement) i.e. if the session resides in memory
than client won't be able to log in again untill that session automatically invalidated...
so help me!!!!
thanks
bhups
some part of my code in which i m getting and invalidating session is given below.
class myServlet extends HttpServlet{
void doGet(req,res)
Client _client=null;;
HttpSession _session=req.getSession(false);
if(_session!=null)
client=(Client)session.getAttribute("_client");
if(requestID.equals("Login"))
String ClientID=req.getParameter("ClientID");
String Password=req.getParameter("Password");
String AuthenticationStatus=Authentication(ClientID,Password);
if(AuthenticationStatus.equals("Authenticated"))
_session=req.getSession(true);
session.setAttribute("client",new Client(Integer.parseInt(ClientID),Password));
res.sendRedirect("./inbox.html");
else
throw someException();
if(requestID.equals("Logout"))
if(_client!=null)
_session.invalidate();
res.sendRedirect("./login.html");
class Client
private int ClientID;
private String Password;
public Client(int cid,String password)
ClientID=cid;
Password=password;
public int getClientID()
return this.ClientID;
}

Hey this can be done using javascript
U have to capture the window close event of the browser and for that event write a javascript function
which calls the logout.jsp page or any other necessary servlets to do the logout process.
a dummy example is given here
someJsp.jsp
<html>
<head>
<script>
             function closeSession()
                             window.navigate("logoff.jsp");
</script>
</head>
<body onUnload="closeSession()">
</body>
</html>

    I tried compling servlet, but it is raising error

  • Help needed in Servlet....!!!!

    Hi
    In my web.xml I have following entry for servlet mapping.....!!!
        <servlet>
            <servlet-name>createBillingItem</servlet-name>
            <servlet-class>com.cdr.billing.BillingItemManagerController</servlet-class>
         <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
        </servlet>
        <servlet-mapping>
            <servlet-name>createBillingItem</servlet-name>
            <url-pattern>/createBillingItem</url-pattern>
        </servlet-mapping>
        <servlet-mapping>
            <servlet-name>createBillingItem</servlet-name>
            <url-pattern>/editBillingItem</url-pattern>
        </servlet-mapping> Now in servlet controller I want to distinguish which url-pattern has been invoked so that I forward to different jsp some thing like this....!!!
    //if <url-pattern>/createBillingItem</url-pattern>
    getServletConfig().getServletContext().
                  getRequestDispatcher("/BillingItemCreate.jsp").forward(request, response);
    // if <url-pattern>/editBillingItem</url-pattern>
    getServletConfig().getServletContext().
                  getRequestDispatcher("/BillingItemEdit.jsp").forward(request, response);How can I achieve this.....pls help...!!!
    Thanks

    You can check HttpServletRequest#getRequestURI(), but I would rather create a 2nd servlet for that. All shared logic and/or methods can just be refactored to helper / utility classes.
    *Thanks a lot BalusC...I am doing request.getServletPath () I will do as you said...!!!*

  • Help Needed in checking session variable

    In a sample site, I am calling a bounded task flow from an unbounded task flow. In the called taskflow the default activity is a router which checks the session variable, and the home page will be loaded only if the session variable is not null. If session variable is null router will lead to a page dispalying 'session expired'. But even after clearing the session if I copy pasted the previous url, the home page is loading. But when I call bounded taskflow from a bounded taskflow, it is working fine. Can anyone suggest any solution? Thanks in advance

    Thanks for the reply. I'm using jdev 11.1.1.5.0.. I'm just trying with a sample example. I have a login page and when the user logins, the user name is stored in session. the loginpage view activity is in adfc config unbounded taskflow. The login credentials is validated in a backing bean and based on the return value, if the login is valid, a bounded taskflow 'hometaskflow' is called. In this bounded taskflow, the default activity is a router wchich checks the username stored in session. If the username is not null it will lead to the 'homepage' view. Else if it is null it will lead to a 'sessionexpired' view.
    In the java class of login page I'm accessing the session variable as shown
    public Username getSessionBean()
    Username username =
    (Username)resolveExpression("#{Username}");
    return username;
    public static Object resolveExpression(String expression)
    FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    Application app = facesContext.getApplication();
    ExpressionFactory elFactory = app.getExpressionFactory();
    ELContext elContext = facesContext.getELContext();
    ValueExpression valueExp =
    elFactory.createValueExpression(elContext, expression,
    Object.class);
    return valueExp.getValue(elContext);
    On login button click the function being executed is as shown
    public String onLoginClick() {
    if(String.valueOf(itUserName.getValue()).equals("admin")
    && String.valueOf(itPassword.getValue()).equals("admin"))
    Username username=getSessionBean();
    username.setUsername(itUserName.getValue().toString());
    return "success";
    else {
    return "invalid";
    And to set username as null on logout, I used this function on logout click
    public void clearSession()
    Username username=getSessionBean();
    username.setUsername(null);
    The EL expression used to check the value of session variable is
    #{sessionScope.Username.username==null} outcome is expired
    #{sessionScope.Username.username!=null} outcome is active
    This worked when I used in a bounded taskflow, which is being called from another bounded taskflow. But not working in this scenario...

  • Passing objects to a servlet - session or as byte[]

    Hi
    I'm creating my first servlet and I want opinions on my design. I plan to sue my servlet to generate an image. So in my jsp page I have an image tag with the following
    <img src="/Servlet/GenerateImage">But my servlet requires data in an ArrayList from my JSP page. How can I pass the ArrayList to my servlet? I've done some research and been looking aorund the forums, and I noticed people either convert the object to byte[] or pass the object using the session. I've tried doing the byte[] method but I don't know how to pass the byte[] to my servlet. I tried passing it as a parameter using a query string, get the parameter as a string, and convert it to byte[] again, but it didn't work. I can't seem to get this approach to work.
    I'm worried that if I use the session, and a large number of people access my page which runs the servlet, my server will be bogged down.
    What is the best approach in doing this? It'd be great if some sample code or links are supplied
    Thanks for all the help!

    My servlet requires data in an ArrayList from my
    JSP page. How can I pass the ArrayList to my servlet?
    I've done some research and been looking aorund the
    forums, and I noticed people either convert the object
    to byte[] or pass the object using the session. If the ArrayList is derived in the JSP and is required in the servlet, then saving it as a session attribute is the best bet. I guess it would be possible to send all the data from the ArrayList to the client in a cookie, but that seems messy and inefficient.
    I'm worried that if I use the session, and a large
    number of people access my page which runs the
    servlet, my server will be bogged down.The session attribute only contains a reference to the ArrayList and so in itself does not cause a performance problem. If you're concerned that the ArrayList is very large, you could consider saving the info to a disk file. Alternatively, could the ArrayList be derived in the servlet instead of, or as well as, the JSP? Does the servlet need all the Arraylist entries, or just a subset? If a subset, save that as a session attribute and dereference the ArrayList in the JSP. Also, think about when the ArrayList reference can safely be removed from the session.
    What is the best approach in doing this? It'd be great
    if some sample code or links are suppliedJSP
    <jsp:useBean id="myArrayList" class="java.util.ArrayList" scope="session"/>Servlet
    HttpSession session = request.getSession();
    ArrayList al = (ArrayList) session.getAttribute("myArrayList");

  • Help needed to run JSTL 1.1 in Tomcat 6.0.16

    Hi All,Help needed to run JSTL 1.1 in Tomcat 6.0.16. I am trying to run the example given in http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html The example tries to connect to MySQL database from JSP using JSTL and JNDI Datasource.I am running the example using Eclipse 3.4.2 using Sysdeo plugin to start and stop Tomcat server from Eclipse IDE.
    My web.xml file has <web-app xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:web="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd" id="WebApp_ID" version="2.5">
    </web-app>
    and test.jsp has proper taglib directives
    <%@ taglib prefix="sql" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/sql" %>

    When running the same example, by creating a local server in Eclipse(creating new Server connection pointing to same Tomcat 6.0 installation) it runs fine without any error.

    Hi evnafets,
    Wow, very helpful information, great insight into working of Eclipse. Thanks a lot.
    I have one more question. I have a context.xml file under {color:#0000ff}E:\Deepa\workspace\DBTest\WebContent\META-INF{color} folder and that has the Resource element to connect to MySQL database:

    {color:#0000ff}url="jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/javatest?autoReconnect=true"/>{color}
    {color:#0000ff}</Context>{color}As usual when running application in local Tomcat server of Eclipse, this data source works fine. But when I run the application on Tomcat, by starting Sysdeo plugin from Eclipse, the DBTest.xml file created in C:\Tomcat 6.0\conf\Catalina\localhost has the context entry as<Context path="/DBTest" reloadable="true" docBase="E:\Deepa\workspace\DBTest\WebContent" workDir="E:\Deepa\workspace\DBTest\work">
    </Context>The<Resource> element I have specified in the context.xml of \WebContent\META-INF folder is not taken into account by Tomcat and it gives the following error:May 21, 2009 5:20:04 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapperValve invoke

  • Help needed using adobe exportpdf

    The first time I used adobe export pdf it worked well. However the next time and every other time I try to convert a pdf doc to word docx I get the error message at the end of the uploading session. "pdf doc failed to export to m,icrosoft word.  There was an unexpected problem.
    Anyone overcome this problem?

    Hi Stacy
                   Thanks for that info.  I was aware of the 100MB limit but
    your response made me think again and go back to the problem and this is
    what I found. The first  pdf document I uploaded into Adobe export pdf was  43
    MB and it went through fine. when I looked at the conversion to Word  docx I
    found it had been transformed into 83MB.
    So the conversion (which was a children's book with lots of images in it)
    resulted in an increase of MBs by a factor of 1.7.
    The second pdf document I uploaded was 64MB and this failed. If I apply the
    1.7 factor then the Word docx I wanted was going to be 109MB and therefore
    over  the 100MB limit.
    I didn't know that converting pdf to word would increase the MB like that.
    Why, I don't know so thanks for your help I've learnt something new.
    Cheers

    so plz i juste want help
    i'm so busy finishing my studies
    when it comes to talk about development with tomcat and eclipse together i'm new so i need some advices,so plz let's be serious!
    i'm working hard to finish my project!Try to communicate less like a monkey with electrodes attached to it's genitals. This means stop using words like "plz" and write "please" instead.
    If you want specific help with a specific problem then you should ask a specific question. "help, JSP and SERVLETS" is not a specific question. And you should also note that if your specific question is about Tomcat specifically or Eclipse specifically then you are in the wrong place to begin with.
    So do you want to try again?

  • Servlet Session Object

              I need to get the lastAccessTime of the servlet which I have deployed on Weblogic
              7.0.
              I have found that by using ServletSessionRuntimeMBean interface which has a method
              called getTimeLastAccessed, I can get the same.
              I am not able to get the same. Can any one sujject the way I have to go for this.

    Hello Linus,
    Actually, you would want to retrieve the necessary objects from your servlet context
    and then pass them along to your session EJBs. It's not necessary to pass the
    entire ServletContext object to your session bean. You should wrap the values
    in DTOs (Data Transfer Objects / Value Objects) and pass them along to your session
    beans. Also, it's not good to couple your EJBs with Servlets, as they may be eventually
    accessed from standalone clients in the future. For more information on this design
    pattern, please see the following link:

              I keep getting the annoying error as listed, and the server also keeps reporting
              that I can only connect from 0 unique ip addresses. Has anybody else seen these

              With as much detail omitted for simplicity;
              Frustration 1.
              I have a 8sp2 server running all ok, occasionally after a redeploy of an ear file
              I attempt to load a jsp file, and the error below is thrown.
              The JSP has a bean which is session based, and as from following the stack trace
              it is around some weblogic code which tests if my license allows access to the
              http session (on a developer license). I then have to start another server instance
              and do a deployment of a v.simple war, and access this, then deploy the same war
              to the broken server and access that, then the initial jsp works fine. no code
              changes just environment stops, starts and redeploys!
              Frustration 2
              Server runs ok, tray and connect from two machines (I have an ldap server that
              wants to 'broadcast' messages to my server), error of too many connections.
              The ip connection issues can in most cases be removed with a server restart.

  • Some J2ME midlets doubts!! help needed urgently!!!

    Hi,
    I am currently working in a company where it does wireless technology like WAP and I am assigned a task of creating a screensaver midlet. I have some doubts on the midlets.
    1) How do i use a midlet suites? From what I heard from my colleagues & friends, a servlet is needed for midlets to interact with one another. is it true?
    2) How do I get the startin midlet to take note the phone is idling so that the screen saver midlet can be called?
    Help needed urgently... if there is any source codes for me to refer to would be better... Thanks...
    Leonard

    indicates that MIDlet suites are isolated (on purpose) from each other, so you can't write over another one's address space.
    Also, I believe (at least on cell phones) that you have to specifically enter the Java Apps mode; unless you do the app won't execute. If you are in Java apps mode and a call comes in, the cell's OS puts the Java app currently executing on "Pause" mode and switches back to phone mode.
    Not sure if you will be able to have a Java app do that automatically.
    BTW why do you need a screensaver on an LCD display? Is it really intended to show an advertisement?
    Download and real all the docs you can from Sun, once you get over the generic Java deficiencies MIDlet's aren't that hard.
