Help Needed setting up external monitor

I have a Mac Pro with the standard video card giving me two DVI outputs. I have a Cinema Display as my main monitor and a 17" Panasonic broadcast monitor as my secondary monitor. I have a Matrox MXO box connected to the secondary DVI and a SDI cable running from Matrox MXO to Pana monitor. The screen is on and I can drag items over to it but I want to set it up as a external monitor and no matter what I select I see a message that the monitor is missing. Do you think its because I have it connected via SDI? Any ideas?
Darrin

External monitor to view your footage, or as a second desktop? Darn, I wish I had my MXO with me now...I'd figure this out. But I am sure in the MXO control panel there is a setting. Look in the PRESENTATION tab.

  • Need help: W520 connecting 2 external monitors

    Hi,
I just bought two new monitors and trying to connect both of them with W520. Both monitors are 1920*1080 and have VGA, DVI, and DP. (No HDMI)
I know one solution that probably going to work is to connect one with displayport and the other with VGA.
However, I really hope I could use digital signals for both of them since VGA is still not completely as good as displayport or DVI.
As the displayport on W520 is the only digital output, I called the technical support to ask if I could use a dp->dvi converter and a dvi splitter to connect both monitors. The technical support confirmed this. But I still don't know if I should use a dp->dual-link dvi or just a regular dp->dvi.
I've also read the reviews of USB->DVI adapters. The common problem they have is that videos could not be smoothly played.
I don't want to buy the dock or an active converter since they cost too much. So, please suggest what is the most economic solution if I want to get 2 digital output from W520.
    Thanks!

[Reviving this slightly old topic because it still comes up on Google searches ...]
I wanted to report my successes with 3 screens - the laptop screen and two external monitors - with a W520 quad-core and a MiniDock Plus 3 - 4338 - 90 Watt.  Both external monitors are connected to the MiniDock with DisplayPort cables.
    a) Win7 Ultimate was easy to set up with the drivers 83de42ww (8.17.12.7593/8.15.10.2538, dated 2011-12-14).  BIOS in Optimus mode, but disabled OS detection.  I can use the Windows 7 "screen resolution" applet to configure the resolution and relative location of the monitors.  Only issue:  I have to do that each time I dock - otherwise it boots/revives from sleep using only the laptop's screen.  I never use the Intel or NVidia consoles to do anything.
    b) Windows Server 2008 R2 was MUCH harder to get going - largely because I was doing it six months later and using the latest drivers.  The drivers in 83de44ww (8.17.12.7658/8.14.10.2538, dated 2012-04-20) just do not work for this purpose - I could not get all three screens going no matter what I tried.  So I uninstalled the NVidia drivers and Intel drivers (in that order!) and installed 83de42ww (as in (a) above) and now it works fine.  Even better: it remembers when I dock to light up all three displays without me having to adjust anything.  To get it to work, though, I had to use the NVidia control panel to set screen resolutions.  After that, the Windows "screen resolution" applet now works fine.
    c) Back in November when I was trying to get 4 screens going I found a Lenovo PDF that described all kinds of display configurations for the W520.  Can't find it online now.  Anyway, it certainly implied that 4 screens (3 external) worked, but I couldn't get it to happen.  Now I'm glad you've pointed to this specification that contains the following remarkable facts:  First, that you can get 4 monitors working with the 170W MiniDock Plus, and you can also get it working with the 90W MiniDock Plus (which is what I have) ONLY IF you've got a DUAL-core, not a quad-core (I have a quad-core).  Very interesting!  Perhaps the quad core sucks up just enough extra energy that the NVidia chip isn't left with enough to power 3 video signals.  Unfortunate.
    d) I don't know why I have the 90W MiniDock Plus - Can anyone advise me?  I've got a 170W brick that says it delivers 8.5 amps at 20V, that's 170W alright.  But the bottom of the MiniDock says it accepts 4.5 amps at 20V, thats 90W.  So did they just ship me the wrong MiniDock with the right brick?

  • Help with Resolution on External Monitor

I want to set my HP Envy 15t to drive an external monitor, not as an extension, but rather as my primary monitor.  My external monitor is a Viewsonic VX2250, a little older, and requires that I use a HDMI-to-VGA adapter.  (The Viewsonic also has DVI inputs...not sure it that would make a difference.)  On my current tower setup, I use the monitor in its recommended (or native mode) setting of 1920x1080.  I like this screen a lot.
The adapter is a Bytecc HM-VGA005 and the specs seem to suggest that it can handle a variety of video resolutions - Full HD (1080p), WUXGA (1920x1200 RB mode), and UXGA (1600x1200 VESA mode).
The 15t currently runs in the recommended resolution of 1366x768.  If I understand the specs right, in HD mode it's 1366x768 and in FHD mode it's 1920x1080.   The graphics card is an Intel HD Graphics 4600.  Is this the reason that I can only get HD resolution and not FHD resolution on the laptop?
But whenever I plug all this together and try and change the laptop screen resolution settings, the external monitor only shows 1024x768...pretty lousy.  I have it so that the laptop screen is dark and only the external monitor is on.  But there doesn't seem to be any choices I can make to improve this resolution.  I've checked to see that the graphics driver is up to date and it is.
What do I do to get the best screen I can on the external monitor?  Would buying a new monitor with HDMI inputs achieve better results?  Do I need a different adapter?
    Thanks...Kurt
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Me again!  Well, it was a bit of the nut behind the wheel.    I checked in with the store that I've been buying my cables, adapters, etc.  He said to bring the Viewsonic monitor by to see what might be going on.  As I was setting up, he asked about power to the adapter.  I had the USB cable but didn't think it was needed.  But after putting everything together in addition to power to the HDMI-VGA adapter, I could see I was getting the resolution that I was hoping for.  Why it worked on the Dell monitor, no clue...maybe a better monitor or different VGA cable.  The Bytecc adpater didn't come with any instructions, so I just didn't know.
All is well.  Hope this helps someone in the future.

  • Can anybody help me ? preview (external monitor)

    Hey Guys:
I need to preview in real time my HD 1080i work in an external monitor I am not sure with card should I purchase. I have a Viewsonic 1920x1080.
I know that the most used card are balckmagic and AJA Kona models but I have read some complaints about both.
Firstly I was after Intensity Pro (blackmagic) but it seems that it does not work well with HD output.
Then I searched info about DeckLink (Blackmagic). It seems it works ok but not more reference than oficial web.
Finally somebody told me that AJA Kona cards work really well but I don't know which model will be the proper for monitoring my work in realtime.
Can anybody help me with this ?
    Thanks
    Andres

    Hi Andrew07,
With my Mac Pro 8 core, AJA KONA LHe SDI card using Final Cut and a fibre channel disk array I can capture and play back 1080 HD footage, no problem. (I have also used Blackmagic cards as well)
With After Effects if I have my External Monitor set to 1080 and I try and RAM preview a 1080 composition I can only achieve a frame rate of about 15 fps. If my external monitor is set to normal SD and the composition at half res I can then preview in real time. But that is not Full res HD.
If I render the RAM preview to disk I can then play that in Final cut in realtime at full res
So you have to work around AE as it just can't pump out that much data quickly enough, but I do HD graphics everyday using AE and it does work just not quite as well as I would like ...
    Hope this helps

  • What resolution do I need in an external monitor for my 15" G4 Powerbook?

Hello mac friends this is my first post I really hope someone can help me out. I need to get an external monitor for my 15 powerbook g4 1.67 w/ 64 mb graphics card. I can not find any monitor on the market whos' native resolution matches that of my g4 (1280x854). Do I need to match the native res? I ideally would like a widescreen b/w 20 and 23", though I am not crazy about the apple displays (mainly the $). I am trying to figure out what native res I need to be looking for in an external monitor, etc. Anyone who can advise would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks- Jon
    PowerBook G4 15inch 1.67ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   low res, 1.5gb ram

The fact that you don't need to match the native resolution disguises a great and valuable feature: Your PowerBook can drive monitors higher than its native resolution. Check the specifications for your PowerBook to see how high it can go. (There's a Specifications link at the top of this page.)
For example, my PowerBook G4 native resolution is also 1280x854 like yours. I bought a 20" Apple Cinema Display which is 1680x1050. Is that a problem? No, it's GREAT. Because I didn't just double my screen space, the external more than doubled it thanks to the ability of the PowerBook video card to go beyond the native resolution. My PowerBook's specs say I could run a monitor up to 2048 by 1536 pixels. (Many Windows laptops have the same capability.)
You can go to any computer store and buy just about any monitor that has a DVI or VGA port on it, that is within the resolution range for your PowerBook, and it will work. Dell, Samsung, NEC, etc. should all be OK if you want to save money. DVI is better and plugs in directly, but if you buy VGA, you will need to use the VGA-DVI adapter that came with your PowerBook.

  • Help Needed Setting Up IMAP Relay?

I an currently maintaining an OS X 10.4.11 Tiger server, running on a PowerMac G4 Mirror.
Currently, we have our mail setup through our isp via pop (they do not offer imap). All of our employees have set up several access points to the pop server (i.e. home, office, smart phone, etc.). However, the problem arises that as each device is maintaining its own mail, when accessing mail on each device, mail read on one device still shows as unread on the others. As well as, any mail sent from one device, does not exist on the others.
To eliminate the duplication, and missing mail, I thought setting up an imap server would keep all devices in sync.
My thought is, collect all the mail from the isp pop server, onto the OS X server and then have the employees access only the imap server from all the devices.
    i.e.
    Setup imap server
setup imap server to download mail from pop server, and save in the appropriate account.
setup all client mail accounts to access imap server.
I have been able to set up the imap server without any issues, however, I have not been able to figure out how to get the pop server mail from the isp into the local imap database.
    I hope this make sense.
I know there are free services out there that will do what we want, but we do not want to rely on an external service if it is a process we can maintain internal.
If anyone can help me set this up, or suggestions on how to approach this problem, I would be very grateful.
    TIA

I'd probably have a conversation with the mail ISP along the lines of "add IMAP, please" and that will either be followed by happiness, or by migrating to another mail vendor, or migrating to local mail services.
I've bucketed mail over (via imap), and it's not really a good solution; there are a number of wheels that need be kept spinning and by the time the dust settles (outages, glitches, the usual cruft), you might as well either re-host mail to to another mail ISP that offers imap (gmail, for instance), or simply run your own mail server.
Usual tools are imapsync and offlineimap, and those target (obviously) imap and not pop. (I haven't seen much that does a pop pull, but it's likely feasible.)
If you decide to host your own, you'll probably want to upgrade to something newer than the PPC gear, and you'll need to sort out your public forward and reverse DNS for your mail server, and ensure all that matches your MX record.

  • Help needed setting up print server

    i got 2 printer:
    1 usb inkjet epson 1290
    1 hp5100 network
    i have 1 server:
serving epson for our col proof using powerripx as driver and shared via os x print server
i have 2 network interface card on the server.
my problem is: the position of the server in the office has only one network interface port, i want to have my HP connected to the 2nd network interface of the server and the server connected to the only available network point there and thus have the server serving both printer.
have set up the en1 interface, enable NAT, dhcp, firewall, but the server itself does not recognised the hp which is connected to the 2nd ethernet interface. when i move it on top of the ethernet list in system preferences it does recegnised it but the the whole print server is not accessible on the network.
can someone with more experience help me set this up.
    thx

I didn't say it's impossible. I just offered an easy solution to your problem that will save you and you users some hassle in the long run (eg. when you come to troubleshoot you wn;t have to look at 2 networks and a firewall). I guess I just like easy solutions. And ,dude, 20 bucks...
If you want to go the hard(er) way you need to:
    1. set up a second network address range on the second card
    2. give the printer a fixed IP address within that range
    3. ensure firewall is not blocking packets from/to the printer
    4. config the printer on your print server & clients

  • Remembering setting on external monitor/display

    MacBookPro 2.4GHz 2 duo w/ Leopard:
I use an external monitor (samsung, older) at work; sometimes my computer remembers my display settings (i.e. automatically sets to the correct resolution and arrangement) and sometimes it doesn't. I haven't been able to find a pattern.
Is there any way to make it remember all the time?

  • How do I set up external monitor for iPad

I purchase an Apple vga adapter to connect my ipad2 to an external monitor.  When I try to use it the video dispalys, 'no signal'
    Any suggestions?

Have you tried restarting the iPad? (Hold down the power button until you get the red "slide to power off", do so, and then press the power button again to start the iPad back up. ) That often fixes the problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need Driver for external Monitor for Macbook Pro

Does anyone know where I can get a driver to utilize the output from my macbook pro to an external monitor?  It works great for my iOS but Windows 7 doesn't recognize any external monitor.

  • Setting an external monitor as primary on a MacBook in XP (w/ Bootcamp)?

Hi, I'm trying to use a 17" LCD with my macbook to take the advantage of "Extended Desktop".
I know it's very easy in OSX where you just need to drag the menubar from one screen to the other in the display setting window. I was wondering if there is any way to do this in XP (w/ bootcamp), too. Although there is a check box in XP's display settings that offers the option, everytime i check this "set this monitor as primary" box and hit "Apply", the two screens always remain unchanged. Looks like XP always sets the Macbook screen as the default primary one.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Doniel

This may help but then it may not. I tested it with my iMac and non-Apple second display so results may vary.
With both the MacBook and the second display powered on go to the Apple Menu > System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement
Drag the Menu Bar to the second display and then drag the display itself to the other side of the second display. This should allow acces to the dock and Menubar on the non-Apple display and achive your desired results.
Note: If I sleep my iMac the second display stops so you may need to keep your MacBook open to use these settings
    Hope that helps

  • HELP - problems setting up External Hard Drive to Time machine

    Hi
I set up Time Machine about a month ago. I had an additional 250GB USB External Hard Drive connected but it was not included in the back up. I think that at the time I had been told that I could add the files from the 250GB external to the back-up Time Machine disk later.
Also, before I set up Time Machine on the new 1TB USB drive, I partitioned the drive, and I think as I was deciding how to partition it, I used the Erase utility to reset the drive. I don't know if that is relevant.
Time Machine has been working fine with my internal drive - well I haven't needed to restore anything with it, so I don't really know.
However, I have tried to add the 250GB drive to Time Machine, and in Preferences->Options, the 250GB drive is greyed out in the 'Do no back up' list. And the - (minus) box is also greyed out so nothing happens when clicking on it.
I tried to sort this out a couple of weeks ago, and someone helpful on the forum advised me:
"to move the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist to the desktop. then go to system preferences->Time machine and set up time machine again. the exclusion list will be empty and you can add what you want to it. "
I tried this a number of times and each time I struggled to set it up again. When moving the .plist file I was always asked whether to keep or replace. I tried both, sometimes the file would come back into the folder, sometimes not.
The 250 GB drive was still on the list of 'Do Not Back Up the following drives". After one occasion recently on my attempts, the system did not recognize time machine.
I'm really stuck here - both my drives are ridiculously low in space.
    Please help,
    Thanks
    Steve

What is it you are trying to do? Do you want to change the backup drive from the one you have been using to another drive? That's all you can do. If you have a drive set up as the TM backup drive, you cannot designate another drive as the backup drive unless you disable the existing backup drive. TM cannot backup to more than one drive at a time, and TM cannot span backups across multiple drives.
To move any device out of the Exclude list simply select it then click on the [-] button to remove it from the list.
To prepare a new drive as the backup drive you must partition the drive GUID or APM depending upon whether your computer is Intel or PPC, respectively, and the formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) See the following:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

  • Help needed setting up WebUI for Wireless Gateway

I have a problem setting up a webUI for my demo project.
I am just doing a simple WSN application measuring temperature on a WSN-3121 thermocouple node, and logging it on a wireless RT gateway NI 9792.
Then I wanted to create a web UI for it, and display whats in the gateway's UI - see project.
SO I'm coming up stuck with the web UI.  I've tried reading as much as I can but I still dont know what I'm doing wrong.
As far as I can see, I need to create a web service in the build specs for my gateway, and place the gateway_main.vi as the vi to use.  Then build it, and deploy it.  Once that has happened and I run the vi on the gateway, I created a webUI as shown in the pic, where it imports the web service from the gateway using 192.168.0.16:8080 - that works fine.
When I run the webUI, it just sits there and times out.
I am using LAbview 2010.  Please help.

    Hello markza,
Your approach to using Web UI Builder and understanding its use case is exactly right, the issue lies in the web service you have deployed. The VI you are building as a web service, i.e. gateway_main.vi, has while loops in it and hence cannot be used as a web service. The reason for the timeout is that your UI Builder app is calling the LV2010 web service and is getting stuck there waiting for the while loops to complete. Also, the cluster datatype is not supported in Web UI Builder so you would have to break up the Wireless Node Sampling Time input into two separate numeric inputs.
I would recommend creating a subVI out of your code inside the inner while loop in gateway_main.vi. This subVI should have two numeric inputs to replace the cluster (as mentioned above) and not have either of the Start or Stop boolean inputs. Outputs would stay the same i.e. two doubles and a boolean.
Let me know if that helps you and if you have any further questions.
    Thanks!

  • Help needed setting up cluster communication network

    Hi,
I need some help setting up a two node cluster communication network.
I have two virtual Servers each with four virtual nics.
I want to create a network for:
    Management
    Heartbeat
    Live Migration
    iSCSI
What type of switch would I need to create for each of them? (External/Internal/Private)
I presume that they would all have to be external as they will have to be able to communicate with the other host in the cluster through the physical network.
Would I need to configure VLANs on the physical switch to keep the traffic isolated?
    Thanks

That's all. I don't see any reason to create 4th node. Regarding the iSCSI target - for the test you can install this one
https://www.starwindsoftware.com/starwind-virtual-san-free on the Hyper-V host which can create iSCSI disks. Just create Internal network for the iSCSI traffic (add third adapter to the
FS nodes of course) which is providing network visibility between the VMs and the hypervisor. (you can use the external network too of course).
Regarding the live migration - this is something you cannot test with single hyper-v host. You'll need at least two. You can try ESX which can expose virtualization instructions to the VMs and create two Hyper-V VM to test live migration.
    1) It's actually possible to install StarWind Virtual SAN on the same hosts where hypervisor (in this case Hyper-V) runs. That would build so-called hyper-converged setup, something Microsoft is going to represent with Windows Server 2016 (vNext) and Storage
Spaces Direct. Except MSFT requires at least 4 nodes and StarWind can do 2 and 3 :)
    2) All hypervisors except Hyper-V do support "nested" virtualization these days. So for very lean labs f.e. ESXi sounds like a better choice.

In java class i have used the function
    File.copyFileToDirectory(reQueueFile, TargetLocation,false);
it was working fine when i tried in IntegratedWeblogic server but when i deploy in Standalone Weblogic server its not getting the jar file.

Please let me know is there a way of adding the lib to the project.
    Regards,
    Suresh kumar.k

First you should check that the library has the checkbox 'Deploy by default' is checked for your library.
The you open the project properties of the view controller project, select Deployments, edit the deployment descriptor. Select the Node 'File Groups'->'WEB-INF/lib'->'Contributors'. this should give you a list of libraries your project uses. Check if your library has the checkbox checked (is selected fro deployment). If it's not checked, set it.
    This should include the library.
