HELP ! NO DVCPRO HD 720p capture preset

I'm about to start a job shot on DVCPRO HD 720p 25 PAL on Friday, but through research I thought I could capture at this rate, I've just found out that you can only do it of P2......
Any ideas?
Matt
Help...........

You need FCP 5.1.2 to work with 720p25 footage. And make sure that you have SHOW ALL selected in the Easy Setup window.

  • DVCPRO HD 720P Capture File  Pixel Dimensions, etc.

I'm crossing over from Final Cut 7 where I've been using AJA LHi card to capture DVCPRO HD 720P 59.94 tape from the Panasonic 1400 deck successfully for years. In Premiere I've adjusted all the capture settings and sequence settings to conform to DVCPRO HD 720P 59.94:
-Pixel format: MC DVCPRO HD 720P 60
    -Capture format: AJA Mov Capture
    -Video format:  720P 59.94
    BUT....
-My Premiere capture tests look not only slightly horizontally stretched, but  cropped about 30 pixels only on the right of the full raster frame in both Premiere and in playback in Final Cut 7.  This is true for the clip as it plays on the timeline as well.
-When I launch the clip in QT player it has the same cropping problems but is playing as 960x720, not defaulting to 1280x720 as normal 16:9. Final Cut captured clips play in QT as default 1280x720. So the file as captured in Premiere is missing a tag that tells QT how to resize it. I'm in QT 10.4 by the way.
-I've imported captures from Final Cut into Premiere and they look fine.
-The Premiere captured clip in the bin shows as 960x720 which is correct for DVCPHD, but in parenthesis shows (1.3333) which I've never seen anywhere before.
-The folks at AJA think this is a Premiere issue not a capture card issue, and I tend to agree.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you

I'm wondering if what the original camera may have embedded into the file is jumbled in with the 1400 and "crashing into" what both FCP and PrPro expect to 'see'. From the above grab, PrPro is thinking that this is just a P2 format Panny camera, shooting "standard" P2 stuff. Which this clearly is not.
At this point ... wondering is say Kevin-Monahan could jump in here & provide some assistance? At least, he'd know who to talk with about this. So might shooternz ... he's been around this sort of thing for many years.

  • Capturing dvcpro hd 720p 25

I've tried capturing through my black magic extreme card via SDI but the results look awful, then I tried prores with much better results but the frame size is 1280X720 not 960X720 which is what I need. Any ideas why the quality is so low with the dvcpro hd 720p 25 codec and any other codecs I can use which will give me the same frame size?
    Much Thanks, Matt

Why not simply import the files via firewire in the original codec or, if the material is stored on a P2 card, simply drag the files onto the hard drive and use log and transfer?
The DVCProHD 720 960x720 dimension is how the codec stores the material. When it is played, it is translated into a full frame size of 1280x720. If you move the DVCPro material to a ProRes codec, the 1280x720 preset is appropriate.
Or did I not understand your problem/question?
How is the material stored? Tape, P2 cards?
What are you using as the capture device? VTR, camera, P2 card reader?
    Version of FCP?
    Version of OSX
    Version of QT?
Computer model? (there is no such thing as a G5 Mac Pro)
Additional information may help clarify things

  • Configuring Capture Presets (v. need help)

Background info: MBP with Final Cut express HD, using a DVD-R camcorder(Hitachi
    DZ-MV580A).
I previously captured video via fire wire about a week ago, however this time it is via USB.
I believe the reason why I can't capture video at the moment is because it is now connected with USB. FCE HD is telling me to change the capture presets..problem is I do not know where to go in order to do so. I appreciate any help!

I gave that option an attempt. Didn't work. My MBP doesn't initially read the camera. I plug camera in via USB, turn on camera, no response. Sometimes the MBP reads the plugged in camera as a DVD...and then my dvd-drive starts loading.

  • 64 Min DVCPRO HD 720p 60p

Typically I dont double post, but this is also in the Authoring section, I dont know where the problems lies, but I have a feeling it's in a little of both
I am in a extremely messy situation. I cant what I am doing wrong. I shot a Ballet DVCPRO HD 720p 60p Direct capture into Final Cut. High Definition has such great quality in the RAW, and when I compress and Author the DVD, it *****, no detail, and I loose 1/2 the lighting. I am new to the post production side, and beg for your help. If anyone who works with DVCPro HD and 1 hour to DVD I would greatly appreciate it. Also am I suppose to be using a special DVD?

I actually check my FinalCut to Compressor Export against the frame of the editing timeline image, and they are almost identical. NOW, When I pop in the DVD, Differnt stary. Night an day on softness. Color and brigthenss is actaully brighter, and blurrier. Brigtheness is not night and day, I wish there was a way to take a snap shot of my DVD, but it says I can when DVD player is open. So to me, it seems as if DVDSP is doing something to it.

  • Capture preset anamorphic - output aspect ratio wrong

My capture preset was dv pal anamorphic as the footage was taken on a widescreen camera. Footage looks fine in FCP6, but when I export a QT file, the aspect ratio is wrong. Why should this be and how do I correct it?

    Hi Simon,
this is because Quicktime is showing the whole file, squashed.
What is your final destination? DVD? Web? Presentation? That will depend on how you will output the file. If you are planning to play it on an SD TV, go to your timeline and make sure you change the ratio to SD with a widescreen mask.
If you want widescreen to play correctly on a standard def tv, then you need to add the mask to it. If you are planning to put it on a SD tv with widescreen, the TV's aspect ration is changed to accomodate the file. So it is playing back correctly, it is the TV that will change. This is why dvds often have two different discs, one for SD and one for wide screen.
    I hope this is helpful.

  • How can I ensure that the audio sample rare of my capture preset matches?

    Hi everyone
When capturing tapes I get warning that the audio sample rate of one or more of captured files does not match the sample rate on my source tape. This may cause the vidio and audeo of the media files to be out of sync. How can I make sure that the my capture preset matches the sample rate of my tape? Can anyone be able to show me how? Thank you. Faruk.

    Hi
Fuerther, I have double checked and found that none of my ten projects has sound, although audio meters settings moves up & down. Simultaniously, canvas displays that in- & out of clips are not set , and in browser I see time codes on the images when the playhead stops in timeline. I did not have this problem before. I wonder appreciate if if these issues are interrelated, and if I may have clicked something that has triggered this.
I would appreciate it if you or other friends could kindly address this problem and help me resolve the isssue. Thank you. Faruk.

  • What are the FINAL CUT STUDIO capture presets using a "Blackmagic Intensity Pro HDMI PCI Express Capture Card"

A S-VHS cable and a/v cables are connected to the breakout box.
    What are the presets:
    1) Sequence Preset?
    2) Capture Preset?
    3) Device Control Preset?
    thanks

    1) Sequence Preset?
    2) Capture Preset?
    3) Device Control Preset?
Is this realted to your other question? Don't post more than once, please. GEt it right the first time and then wait. Patiently.
    1. Your sequence rpeset will be determined by the production's output taarget, it has nothing to do with the Balckmagic capture unless you alreday know what that will be. And you do, in fact, because VHS only comes in one way. When you bring your fist captured clip into a sequence, FCP7 will aks if you want to confrom the sequence to the clip's settings. Say yes. Done.
    2. Your capture is going to be regular ol' DV. There's no reason to try to use any other advanced codec for VHS. But you probalby hsould have a time base corrector or frame sync in the loop to help correct and stabilize ancient tapes. Your preset if NTSV DV
    3. There is not control for a VHJS deck. So une unctrolled device.

  • Sequence and Capture Presets

I've shot and captured 35 hours of footage originally shot in HD (output in standard def 16:9) using Final Cut 5.0. After loading it and spending hours organizing it, I found my Sequence Present is 3:2 - Also the Aspect Ratio is set to NTSC-CCIR 601/DV Anamorphic 16:9 is off. Compressor is DV/DVCPro NTSC. Pixel Ratio is also NTSC-CCRI 601/DV.
Capture Preset is NTSC (3:2) Anamorphic is unchecked. Compressor is DV-NTSC. input is DCR TRV 900. I captured from a Z1U.
Can anyone tell me- aside from being a dumb *** in the first place- how I can redeem my project> ? I need this to be for professional broadcast (standard def, 16:9) - I'm on deadline and want to avoid recapturing. If I DO need to recapture, can retain markings/ subclips?
    Thanks a bunch!

Well there's a couple of things to check.
What settings did you use on the Z1U? (HDV, 1080i, 30fps?)
Did you use the capture preset mentioned in your post to capture the material? (check in the browser or item properties)
If that's the case, you have an offline version of your material and you will have to recapture the whole thing (use the HDV capture preset) or online your final edit (basically only recapturing the material used in the final edit)
I'm not sure how the online process will work in this case as I only have experience with PAL. It could prove to be tricky but someone here in the discussions forum must know if and how it's possible.

  • DVCPRO HD 720P: pixel aspect ratios with still images from Final Cut

I am currently trying to get still images from a trailer I am working on with Final cut pro. The footage is DVCPRO HD 720P 24pn and the interlacing and pixel aspect ratios have been giving me a lot of trouble in photoshop. I am able to convert the PAR but it is for preview purposes only...? I need the file to be saved with the converted PAR. How do you do that???
Also, the de-interlacing filter on photoshop doesn't seem to help the quality of the photo.
    Anyone have any ideas?
I have searched and searched and only found somewhat related questions, so maybe I am the only one trying to do this...

Why are you doing interlace if you have 720p?

  • Changing capture presets for audio

I just upgraded everything (os,fcs,qt) and am trying to capture some video from my Canon zr70 miniDV camera. I keep receiving the message "The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape....Make sure the audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of your tape."
I don't know what this means or how to do it.
Looked on previous posts and found this advice: "You need to duplicate your capture preset and change the audio settings to 12 bit" (12 bit is what my camera claims to be using).
I need step-by-step instructions. Can someone please help me? And dumb it down...
    Thank you,
    Katherine

Open the audio/video settings in FCP's FCP menu.
Then click on the Capture Presets tab.
Duplicate the DV NTSC 48khz capture setting, and a dialog box will open to change this new copy. Change the audio capture to 32 Khz 16 bit in the lower right area of this window. Change the name of the preset to what makes sense, and use that as the capture preset.

  • Capture presets popup, how do i find?

I am having aproblem with my final cut express hd program. It keeps telling me that there is no connection even though my camcorder is hooked up to my laptop correctly. I keep getting an error message that says I need to reset my capture presets but I can not find a popup menu to do that. Resetting with easy set up is not doing the job. I am using a vixia hv30 and/ or a SONY HVR-Z7U  with an mac laptop. Can you help. What do I need to do?

You need to verify that both cameras are set to output the correct format of video out the firewire ports.
If you shot HDV, you must make sure that both cameras are set NOT to downconvert the signal to DV at the firewire port. There is a menu setting ON THE CAMERA for this.
If they are set to downcovert to DV, then FC does not see the vtr that it expects - if easy set up is set to HDV it will look for an HDV signal and see a DV signal.

  • Capture preset for dcvprohd1080 24p??????

I just shot a bunch of footage with an hvx200. The recording format was 1080i/24p. I am used to filming 720p with this camera and the presets in fcp are fine. There is not a capture preset for 1080/24p in fcp. There is only a 1080/24pa preset, which cant be right because its a totally differnt recording format. does anyone know the right way to capture dvcprohd 1080i/24p?

I found that most interesting.... but again I ask why do you need to go to all the hassle and it IS hassle of RE-encoding from MXF to QT? I'm editing the MXF files straight.
There is no "reencode", it is a simple transfer and addition of a QT wrapper so that FCP can read the files. Nothing is re-encoded, no metadata is lost, as Ben says. Hassle? What UTTER nonsense! if you rename the clip, FCP knows what links to what, and when you import you can RENAME and ORGANIZE your clips...a KEY thing to an efficient workflow.
Are you telling me you EDIT THE MASTERS? You don't back up your footage at all? So, if your hard drive fails (and they often do), then all your footage is gone. Even if you edit the MXF files directly with Raylight, you ought to back up the masters by copying them to another disk, or LTO, or whatever. Just common sense. I keep my original MXF files on an archive disk and import the files into FCP where I can rename and organize how I please.
In all my time of using the HVX (about 16 months) I've never known FCP to save the Metadata.... even if it hides it somewhere obscure its still a waste as FCP can't intiragate it.... i.e. I did a search this morning for all 720 50p footage shot in Tibet on P2 card serial number XXXXXX.... its an absolute breeze with P2cms. How can you do that with FCP? you can't you have to rummage through potentially 100's of clips.
What metadata are you referring to? All you need are the clip names and timecode information really, and FCP retains that. Even if you rename a clip from 0003FG5 to "man crosses street," FCP knows that MAN CROSSES STREET is tied to 0003FG5. If the drive fails or media is lost, and you reimport, it goes right to the clip.
I don't in anyway doubt your qualification in this field BUT I find it odd that your advocating such a convoluted workflow!
Convoluted? Are you STILL saying that you edit your MASTER CLIPS and don't back them up? And if you do back them up (as you should), doesn't THAT double the size of your footage?
First I program the metadata into the HVX via the SD card. I shoot what I need. I then hook up to my MBP to the HVX and fire up P2cms. I then injest the card(s). Lastly I fill in any outstanding required metadata.
When I come to edit the footage.... I have the powerful P2cms database on hand to find any footage that I need within my collection of 1000's of clips. That then gets dropped into the required sequence. No fuss no hassle!
Sorry to say it but after spending about a year with it all I can say is that Apple's workflow *****
Depends on what you are doing, what you are editing, and what workflow you need. Your workflow works for you, but doesn't necessarily work for everyone. Just like the Importing workflow doesn't work for everyone. A lot of people like and use Raylight and edit the masters right away. ENG crews, people who need fast turnaround. It works. But so does importing and renaming and all that. There isn't ONE way to do things, because there are many many different production types...each requiring a different approach.
Work the way you work...do what you do. Don't knock something because it isn't the way you do it. As the saying goes, "there is more than one way to skin a cat." As long as the cat ends up skinned, what does it matter how you did it?
    Eeew.

  • Capture dvi and optical digital audio-in through one custom capture preset

How can I create a FCP capture preset that will capture from a digital video to firewire box (grass valley (formerly canopus) advc-hd50) AND the optical audio in port on my desktop mac dual g5?
I have HD dvi video (which has no audio content) and digital audio (or analog for that matter) that i wish to capture in sync then edit in FCP.

if you go to audio/video settings you can duplicate a setup that is close to what you want and edit that setup. under capture presets> audio select whichever input on the mac you wish to use.
consult your documentation with the capture device for the video side. when you have something that works save that as an easy setup (on the summary tab "create easy setup")
I've never used either the optical nor analog in so I can't vouch for it's behavior however it is available as an option
Hopefully your device will somehow pass timecode so edits are repeatable
