Help on strings in java

I have a problem on Strings. I'm Reading a text file I'm getting it line by line. Is it possible to split the string like if my text file contains this line
10113932,"BERNARDO, BENITO CARLO III H.",CS-IT ,Paid
i can split it like
10113932
BERNARDO, BENITO CARLO III H.
CS-IT
Paid
and place this in an array of strings or something maybe vector. What String function should I use? Please help. Thanks!

Hi, if I'm going to use the StringTokenizer() with the delmeter of comma (,) then the tokens will be
10113932
BERNARDO
BENITO CARLO III H.
CS-IT
Paid
but i want it to be like
10113932
BERNARDO, BENITO CARLO III H.
CS-IT
Paid
where BERNARDO is still in one token with BENITO CARLO III H.
do you have any idea where this could be possible?

  • Why returning string from java stored function failed ?  HELP ME, PLEASE

    Hi everybody,
    I created java stored function: it's doing http post, parsing xml from http reply, and returning string result.
    Sometimes, it doesn't return any value. What can be a reason ?
    The high level procedure, has following form:
    class SBE {
    public static String call(String arg0) {
    SBE sbe=new SBE("d:\\oracle\\ora81\\network\\log\\SBE.log");
    String result=SBEParser.go(sbe.sendRequest(arg0, ""), sbe.logger);
    sbe.logger.log(result);
    sbe.logger.log("Finish SBE intetraction");
    return result;
    PLSQL wrapper has a simple form:
    create or replace package PG_SBE as
    function CALL(arg0 in varchar2) return varchar2;
    end;
    create or replace package body PG_SBE as
    function CALL(arg0 varchar2) return varchar2 as language java name 'SBE.call(java.lang.String) return java.lang.String';
    end;
    In log file ("d:\\oracle\\ora81\\network\\log\\SBE.log"), I can find message :
    "Finish SBE intetraction"
    but query:
    select pg_sbe.call("any argument") from dual;
    doesn't finish.
    What can be a reason ? What can I do to trace stage of convertion java string to varchar ?
    Please help me...
    Best regards

    hai,
    can anybody know how to encrypt and decrypt a string using java..
    please if anybody help me with a small example and with code
    thanks
    ravi chandra

    hi,
    of course there are better ways to crypt your code, but the following 2 functions do their job....
    as far as i know java has an own api for crypting stuff.
    private String GetEncryptedString(String aCryptedString)
    String result = "";
    String str = aCryptedString;
    int[] asciiArray = new int[str.length()];
    for(int i = 0; i < asciiArray.length; i++)
    asciiArray[i] = (int)str.charAt(i);
    char tempChar = (char)(asciiArray[i]+3);
    result = result+tempChar;
    return result;
    private String GetDecryptedString(String aString)
    String result = "";
    String str = aString;
    int[] asciiArray = new int[str.length()];
    for(int i = 0; i < asciiArray.length; i++)
    asciiArray[i] = (int)str.charAt(i);
    char tempChar = (char)(asciiArray[i]-3);
    result = result+tempChar;
    return result;

    Need help in my assignment, Java programing?
    It is said that there is only one natural number n such that n-1 is a square and
    n + 1 is a cube, that is, n - 1 = x2 and n + 1 = y3 for some natural numbers x and y. Please implement a program in Java.
    plz help!!

    I assume that this is some kind of assignment.
    What is the program supposed to do?
    1. Figure out the value of N
    2. Given an N determine if it is the correct value
    I would expect #1, but then again this seem to be a strange programming assignment to me.
    // additions followI see by the simulpostings that it is indeed #1.
    So I will give the tried and true advice at the risk of copyright infringement.
    get out a paper and pencil and think about how you would figure this out by hand.
    The structure of a program will emerge from the mists.
    Now that I think about it that advice must be in public domain by now.

    This comes up periodically. It just isn't possible using that type of approach. Probably the best you could do is the create an ADT (containing collections) and use that to pass a 'batch' of information.
    Hopefully this will get addressed in the next release of the database.

    I am in the process of doing a Proof Of Concept / Evaluating products that can help us build a Java Application to Convert a PDF document to a Searchable PDF.
    I wanted to check is there any simple JAVA API from Adobe to achive this ? Any direction in this regard is greatly appreciated.@

    You can achieve this using LiveCycle PDF Generator JAVA API. You can find required code here:
    Adobe LiveCycle * Quick Start (SOAP mode): Converting a Microsoft Word document to a PDF document using the Java API
    In parameters:
    //Set createPDF2 parameter values
    String adobePDFSettings = "Standard";
    String securitySettings = "No Security";
    String fileTypeSettings = "Standard OCR";
    "Standard OCR" file type setting will run OCR on input pdf. In the code, instead of doc file provide a pdf file. Resultant pdf will be searchable PDF i.e OCRed PDF.
    Feel feel to ask any further questions.

  • Help with calling a java application from inside another one

    Hello!
    I am having this problem which is getting on my nerves and dont know how to solve..
    I want to call from my java application, another java application. So i use the exec command. Then i want to read the output of this execution from my own application, (the "parent" process).
    But it doesn work properly. Something seems to happen and i dont get the whole output.
    The java program i want to call is created for running an application created with Matlab java builder.
    This program works when called from cmd, but seems not to work when called from inside a java application.
    The code of my java application is:
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process child;
    // The java class getmagic is a special kind of java file that uses classes that work in matlab. It uses a component (.jar) file that is created from matlab java builder. thats why it wants the -classpath and the rest options.
    //I hope you wont get messed up in here.
    String[] callAndArgs = {"java","-classpath",".;C:\\Program Files\\MATLAB\\R2006b\\toolbox\\javabuilder\\jar\\javabuilder.jar;..\\MagicDemoComp\\magicsquare\\distrib\\magicsquare.jar -Djava.library.path=C:\\Program Files\\MATLAB\\R2006b\\bin\\win32;","getmagic","4"};
    try{
    child = rt.exec(callAndArgs);
    InputStream is = child.getInputStream();
    InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(is);
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr);
    String line;
    while ((line = br.readLine()) != null)
    System.out.println(line);
    is.close();
    System.out.println(child.waitFor());
    System.out.println("Finished");
    }catch(IOException e) {
    System.err.println("IOException starting process!");
    }catch(InterruptedException e) {
    System.err.println("InterruptedException starting process!");
    The java program (getmagic) thats uses matlab gives the following output (after some time) when called in cmd with argument 4
    Magic square of order 4
    16 2 3 13
    5 11 10 8
    9 7 6 12
    4 14 15 1
    My program shown above only prints:
    Magic square of order 4
    1
    Finished.
    Do i do something wrong? How can i get the rest of the output???
    Thank you very much in advance,
    Stacey
    PS: I am sorry for the length of my post.

    Hello CaptainMorgan08, thanx for the instant reply.
    I tried, but no, i cant.
    Because i cannot include this java aplication that uses matlab into my application, cause 1) it needs special arguments in the compiler and during execution so it can be run and 2) it uses classes that java doesnt have. only the java-like matlab code.
    For example it uses:
    import com.mathworks.toolbox.javabuilder.*;
    import magicsquare.*; //the component which is made from matlab java builder.
    So i cannot compile it with my application!
    If you know of a way, please let me know!
    I know i might be missing something.. something that is obvious to you.. but i ve been working days=nights hardly no sleep..so you can excuse me if i say something foolish..

  • How to convert number to string in java

    hi how can i convert number to string in java
    something like
    public void Discription(Number ownerName){
    String.valueOf(ownerName);Edited by: adf009 on 2013/04/08 7:14 PM

    Yet another way of doing it is: ownerName.toString().
    If you are working in and IDE such as Netbeans or Eclipse, type a period after the object name. Wait a second or so. Eclipse/Netbeans Intellisense will show you a list of functions that object provides that you can choose from. toString() is one of them.

    If you mean to type this: "Is there any place where I can see an example of the String.split() method? My Java book doesn't have one." then here's an example:
    Check the API doc:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/String.html
    public class Test {
        public static void main(String[] args) {

  • Discussion - Date/Time POJO property - String or java.util.Date

    Hi,
    I always wonder how date/time should be declared in POJOs - String or java.util.Date. I have used both and always felt comfortable with String but still would like to know your views. (In DB datatype is datetime).
    I know some of you will say "as per requirement" but what I have experienced we never give too much thought and when we have issues down the line we start wondering.

    I always wonder how date/time should be declared in POJOs - String or java.util.Date. I have used both and always felt comfortable with String but still would like to know your views.
    (In DB datatype is datetime).If the latter is a given, then I would definitely use a Date. Doing the Date/String conversion at the DAO level seems an improper location; in particular, it constrains what upper layers can do with it:
    - if the business logic has to do date/time computation, it will have to convert back to Date (or Joda DateTime)
    - if the UI needs a different representation than the one that was used in the DAO (such as, different time zone, or showing only the month, whatever,...) it will probably need such a conversion too, and another one for the reformatting (or clumsy code parsing the date string).
    I know some of you will say "as per requirement" but what I have experienced we never give too much thought and when we have issues down the line we start wondering.I can easily see the issues caused by premature conversion to String. But what kind of issues do you risk if you keep the Date representation?
    In summary, I'm all in favor of using a Date (or Joda DateTime ) all along, until it's eventually displayed.

    J.

  • How do I compress a string with  java.util.zip - not a file ?

    How do I compress a string with java.util.zip?
    Is possible to compress something else except a file?

    Of course, compression works on bytes, not some higher level constructs like Strings or files.
    You can use the ZipOutputStream or DeflaterOutputStream for compression.
    And the javadoc for Deflater even has a code example of compressing a String.
