Help please - Bad crashing, freezing, lines and pale patches and more

I wonder if anyone can help me. I am not very technobod and there are progressively awful problems on my Mac until it is now so slow.
I need to fix it before it dies altogether, or I throw it out of the window.....
Problems:-
Thin black lines randomly appearing across the windows.
Ghosting of windows, they leave another version when moved.
Sometimes windows just white out in areas with scribbly lines like pretend text.
Sometimes windows have large bare patches all of a sudden or go see through
Programs keep just quitting for no reason.
The whole computer just freezes every now and then. Sometimes it waits and returns, occasionally it crashes completely.
It is really painfully slow and can take me considerable minutes to open a new window or get something else up on screen.
The tool bar sometimes goes all skeletal with no background.
Loads more silly things like this... all random.
It is driving me absolutely potty. It's only used by me doing emails, filing pics, designing jam labels, letters, going on forums and things. I don't give it loads to manage unless I'm doing something spectacularly stupid. This computer ought to be big enough to run a design studio....
I have tried mackeeper, found it gave more problems than it solved, and uninstalled that, I've tried Clean my mac and only cleaned some, I left the universal binaries and the Caches alone. I then tried Onyx and fixed some listings (I kept the report) and cleaned up the caches in that, then restarted.
It is now even slower than before I started fixing it, and all of the problems are still here. I've got time machine for back up.
What can be going wrong? Is anyone able to help over the next couple of days?

  • Need help please with a recent line repair

    to cut a very long story i lost my phone line completely 8 days ago i reported it to my ISP and after 5 days i got it back... now they had to replace the cable running from the telegraph pole to my house for some reason thats where the fault was i thought great well done... couldnt wait to get home and get back on the net .... but to my horror it was so slow taking about 1-2 mins for a page to open and its still pritty poor now takes about 30 secs to 1 minute for a web page to open...been intouch with my ISP im having no joy telling me its all fine nothing wrong i done tests and this and that with them and they seem happy with my connection and speed ...but im telling them that before the repair i was getting between 2.8 and 3.2 MB now im lucky to be getting 1 MB ...one guy even said he couldnt understand why im not happy with the service ...now there telling my its my profile through the line has been changed and ill have to wait for 10 days and checking and testing and doing things over and over again and segesting its my computer and set up ect ...
    i have been at this for a week now what can i do ??? please someone help is it the new line or is it my ISP ??
    but i keep telling them it was all fine before and theres nothing wrong with my set up or my computer because the lap top is the same with the Ethernet cable plugged in so they both cant be the problem ..i have had them both checked at a cost of £65 with a computer tech guy at the shop he said they are clean and healthy systems !

    There is a peice of equipment within the exchange which 'optimises' the speed of the broadband based on what the line is capable of. When you have had the recent fault on the line it is likely this equipment picked up the fact that the line wasnt capable of the speeds you were getting and has 'restricted' the speed to give you a stable connection.
    The equipment is there to try and offer you a stable connection for your Broadband (better to have a slowwer speed all the time than a super fast speed for 5 minutes of the day).
    Unfortunalty this can be 'confused' when you have a fault on the line and reduce your speed to compensate for the bad line. It should automatically 'optomise' the speed over a 10 day period and the problem should sort it self out.
    You can request your ISP to check this and make sure your line is set up corrcetly after the recent fault, but to be honest it can easier to wait the 10 days (as it is likely the people you speak to are not fully aware of this part of the line/Broadband or willing to help)
    It is also possible that the repair has had a negative affect on what the line can suppport (this can happen but unlikely to decrease your speed by something which you would notice) and the only soultion for this is to speak to your isp (if they are happy with the speed you are now getting you might not have much luck).
    It sounds like your ISP aren'y very helpful and have 'fobbed you off' for the ten days with out just telling you why, if it was me at this point I would consider an alternative ISP.
    Hope that atleast explains why they told you to wait ten days. :-)

  • IPad Crashes-Black Lines and makes random restarts

    This barely happens before on my ipad until recently my teacher confiscates my ipad. After this going on, my ipad kept on undergoing multiple crashes and restarts. When I was rotating my screen or opening an app, it shows black lines and restarts by its own.
    I tried system reset and restore but none of it seems to work.

    Help Please! Hey I like Green Apples, but this does not look good
    I need some help with my late 2011, 4gb memory, 500gb hard drive Mac Book Pro. I’ve had problems in the past, the hard drive failed only after 3 months from purchase date.
    Now this thing started 2 weeks ago, I turned it off in the night and started it up in the morning to find an Green Apple Logo Screen and after loading it goes to a blank screen.
    That’s it no matter, what I do, restart, turn off and I trying safe booth and trying to re-intstall Mavricks lol that was not pretty (It looks like an old crash windows computer) It had no information on it.
    Pretty much it is a paper weight now and I need some help.

  • Help Please - iPhone crashed - only showing Apple logo

    Apple support is closed so I was wondering if anyone here can help me.
    I downloaded a new App and during install my iPhone seemed to freeze.
    I held the power button and it powered off and when I powered it back on again it gets as far as the apple logo and never any further regardless of how long i leave it.
    I have also tried reseting by holding down Power button and Menu button but with the same results.
    Attaching to my computer and firing up iTunes only results in an iTunes freeze.
    HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

    You will need to do a restore.
    from another post,
    1. Open iTunes
    2. Coonect iPhone to Mac or PC.
    3. hold both Sleep/Wake and home button for 10 seconds.
    4. The screen will go blank and the instant ir does RELEASE Sleep/Wake and CONTINUE to hold the Home button for 20 seconds.
    5. iTunes will then see the device as in "An iPhone in Recvovery mode".
    6. You may proceed with the restore of the iPhone.
    Note: iTunes may not see it instantly, just continue to hold the home button until it does. If it still doesn't work start the entire process again until it works. Every iPhone and IPod Touch can enter DFU Restore mode regarless of tis state (since this does not require the OS to boot).
    What you will see on the iphone to indicate it is ready to restore is a cahnbe from the apple lot to a cable wanting to be installed. Then you can restore.
    once I got that I clicked restore and it will go through its paces. It may take quite some time so be patient.

  • HT201412 Help please "Flow" crashing !! .

    I had downloaded the app "Flow" earlier today. It was working perfectly fine. Then after my ipod died I put it on the chrager and i turned it back on, I click on the app. It starts up, then goes back to the home screen. I have an Ipod 4g and my software is up to date. All of the other apps work perfectly fine. Quite frustrating since this has never happend before. Also i have tries restarting it 3 times. So, help please thanks.

  • Crashes, graphics glitches, and more crashes when editing video clips

    Can't for the life of me figure out why PE keeps crashing on me, so I'm here for help.
    My system consists of a i7-970 hexacore, 6GB ram, 1x 500GB os drive, 3x500gb raid 0 drives (this is where my video clips are stored), 2x GeForce GTX460 video cards.
    OS is Windows 7 Profressional 64 bit.
    The video files I work with are generally in the 50-200GB size.
    A little background - the videos that I am working with are recordings from Battlefield Bad Company 2 that I have recorded with some capture software called Dxtory.
    I record at 1920x1080 at 60 FPS to avi files.  The avi files are using the "xtor" codec (Dxtory's own codec)

    Audio is PCM 192000Hz recorded in stereo.
    Let me start by saying I have not had trouble with this before until I started recording the videos at 60 FPS.  30 FPS worked ok (some crashes here and there, but they were bearable), but the frequent crashes started happening when I started working with the 60 FPS videos, done mainly so I could play around with slowing the clips down, etc.
    Sometimes I can open and edit clips just fine.
    Recently, a project that I'm working on is crashing when I try putting two different clips from different files together on the time line.  I managed to get it to work once, and saved the project after that.  Then, PE crashed randomly and when trying to reopen the project, it just crashes and won't let me get any further.
    I should mention the graphics glitches as well - occasionally (especially when previewing video clips before adding them to the timeline) after I close the preview window, the graphics in PE will glitch out, causing random lines to appear in certain areas, graphics to stack on top of eachother and freeze up, and sometimes I can click on the "play" button in the main project window and hear everything start playing, but the graphics are completely screwed up to the point where I can't view the video or hit the pause button.
    All of my computer hardware is fine, all drivers, and PE, are up to date.
    Can someone please help me figure out what is going on?  I'll be happy to provide any more information that might help out.

    The most likely issue is the codec that your program is using the create your video. It's apparently not compatible with Premiere Elements.
    This often happens also when people try to record their on-screen video with FRAPS.
    You'll see lots of discussions on this issue in the Premiere Pro forum. However, it's even more pronounced in Premiere Elements, which is designed to work almost exclusively with camcorder video.
    Some video programs are a little more versatile with this type of video. Some people have found Corell's Video Studio better at handling these non-traditonal formats.
    But I did a Google search on Dxtory editing and couldn't find any information on it.
    Sorry I can't offer a solution. But I can pretty much assure you that Premiere Elements isn't it. sorry.

  • HELP please ! No phone service for a month or more....

    I've been a Verizon custmer for as long as I can remember (in my late 50's). I've been living in this smae house now for 10 years - no changes to wiring etc. I have land line and DSL service - never an issue. I woke up one morning back in June and no dial tone. I unplugged each phone one at a time etc., did not solve the problem. I took a phone out to the service box and plugged it into the jack outside and it works just fine. I happened to have a long length of  phone wire and so I ran it out the window  to the jack outside. Thankfully both DSL and phone now work. One odd thing is that my phone will ring now twice per day - 2 rings and at exactly at the same time am & pm. Also, when ever I end a phone call (hang up) the phone will ring once. These behaviors are consistent. The wiring inside the house can't be more than 10 years old as this how old the house is. I have changed nothing except putting the inline filters on each phone when I got DSL 5/6 years ago. I live alone and have not had any service calls by any other utility company so its not that a service person accidently caused a problem with the wiring. I can not afford to call a service tech out to the house only to find out that its somehow my responsibilty as I no longer work and have serious heath issues now and medical bills through the roof. Not whining, just explaining. I know, "you can afford DSL though ?". Yes, the 'net its my only contact with the outside world. I live alone and don't know any of my neighbors. Again, not whining, just 'splaining ! Anyhow, I thought maybe a lightning strike but then the service jack would be fried too so that can't be it.I have only a crawl space access to the house wiring and crawling around down there trying to test the wiring will be painful and difficult to say the least. I thought that maybe I could un hook and splice say the green wire to the red wire on the outside jack and then put the probes from a continuity tester across the green/red termianls at each inside jack so as to test for a break in the line might work ? Of course I'd have to repeat for each color which means a lot of running outside and back in again but I guess I could do it if need be. I only have 3 rooms, each with a modular wall jack and a phone in each + the DSL wire/jack. Other than this I'm all out of ideas and not even sure if the splicing idea even makes sense ? If anyone could help with an answer/advice, I'd be extremely grateful as the cold weather will be coming soon and having a wire go out through an opened window - even if only crack, will not cut it when it gets -30 here !! Thanx much....

    Thank you for responding. Yes, I do have a long length of phone wire but its part of a phone company reel 'thingamajig' and I'd have to cut the jack off the end thereby ruining the piece. If I did cut the end off I'd then have no way to use my phone/DSL if I couldn't do the needed repairs immediately. This is why I was asking about the 'splice' procedure. I think my 'logic' is correct - if you unscrew the green and red wires out at the box and splice them together they'd form a continuous loop from the outside box to the green/red wires at the wall jack. Of course one can splice any 2 of the colored wires to make the 'loop' and it can be spliced at either end - inside at wall jack or outside at box....that is 'I think so'.... Then I put the probes of my continuity detector on the corresponding red/green wire ends at the opposite end and see if I have a continuous, unbroken 'loop' (?)This wouldn't answer whether there was a corrosion issue or not but it should show if there's a break in one of the wires. The house is comparatively 'new' as houses go and I can't help but think there's something else going on here - especially since the phone rings twice per day at the exact hour/minute/second every day and also rings once whenever I hang up the phone. I was hoping a Verizon person would see my post as there has to be something particular to Verizon I think that someone who does/handles repairs would recognize. I'd find it hard to believe that the 2 calls per day and the ring when I hang up doesn't signify SOMETHING to do with trouble shooting/line testing or hardware characteristics known to Verizon. Again, thanks for taking the time to respond. Now if I could just get a Verizon person to do likewise !

  • Please help - computer is crashing & freezing ever since upgrade to Leopard

    Ever since upgrading to Leopard, my computer has been crashing a lot more. Sometimes it just freezes up. Most recently, I got the gray screen with a bunch of different languages telling me to restart using the power button. Here is the crash report. Can anyone tell me what's going on, and if there's anything I can do to help?

    I'd suggest doing this:
    How to Perform an Archive and Install
    An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
    Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Help please? Static audio, Crashes, ActionScript Errors and more issues with Flash Player 16

    So, this is the first time I'm posting in here and I'm sorry if I mess up or smth.
    Anyway, this is what happened:
    - Firefox tells me Flash Player 15 is vulnerable
    - I update to the newest version
    - After the update I run into several things that are highly annoying.
    First of all:
    - I can't watch any livestreams anymore, neither on picarto nor on twitch. The video keeps loading and buffering, then works for a second or two and then goes back to buffering OR alternatively the video would stop whilst the sound continues or vice versa. (My wifi connection is super fast and I never had any problems until the update)
    - On youtube videos only load for a second or two, then the audio vanishes and the video crashes. (Never had that issue before, EVER)
    - The audio is incredibly wonky, aka, depending on the bass or sounds I hear static noises and weird sounds. (This only happens on videos that require flash, the sound is fine when playing CDs )
    - When watching videos and pausing it or going back a few seconds to rewatch something, the audio suddenly is completely gone.
    - Flash player crashes A LOT
    EDIT: Another Issue appeared:
    - When watchign videos using the Blip player (used by some websites) I get ActionScript errors which then result in crashes

    What I've tried to do:
    - revert back to an older version of Flash (but it kept telling me to update so I gave up on it)
    - Try to enable "hardware accelaration" BUT, when right clicking on the Flash Symbol on Adobe's site FF freezes and tells me that Flash player crashed
    - Found out that I already have hardware accelaration enabled and it still keeps crashing
    - I deleted all of its local cache
    - downloaded and installed the debug version
    But none of it helped in the slightest.
    I really hope someone can help me fix this OR that adobe soon comes with a patch/update that fixes all these things ;_____;

  • Firefox Crashing/Freezing Constantly and Resetting to Defaults

    For the past few weeks, I have been having a lot of issues with Firefox crashing. Every time I try to open up a new tab or load a web page it will freeze. Sometimes this is only for a few minutes, while other times this lasts up to an hour and I have no choice but to close the program out using the task manager, as any attempts to close it normally fail. This is most prevalent within the first few minutes after I launch Firefox, and the program has been slow in this regard for quite a while, though usable after waiting a few minutes for it to fully load. As I stated though, for the past few weeks it has been completely locking up and crashing when this happens, and it continues to happen after I have already loaded web pages and try to open new ones.
    I tried a complete fresh install, and the problem was fixed for a few days, however, after going for a couple of days without internet access and trying to get online again, the problem returned even worse than before. More than that, now from time to time my Firefox completely resets to default settings, clearing out my "New Tab" page's pinned tabs, as well as removing whichever theme I had applied.
    This glitch has rapidly made Firefox unusable for me, which makes me very upset as I far prefer it to Google Chrome. While I don't know that it would help discern the issue, below is also a list of all the extensions I have installed as well as the plugins I have that are always active, (with all my other plugins either being disabled or "ask to activate"). With the exception of "Adblock Edge", I have had all the extensions installed for several months with no issues. "Adblock Edge" itself I only installed after uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox to try and fix my issue. My current Firefox version is 35.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 Crashing with rendering, freezing system, and more

    I'm having some serious issues with Premiere pro on my late 2013 iMac.
    OSX 10.9.5
    3.2GHz Intel Core i5
    16GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    NVIDIA FeForce GT 755M  1024MB
    I'm working in 1920x1080 23.976fps. Media files are from sony FS700 .MTS and Cannon 5DmkIII .mov
    Multiple times per day, PP crashes on me. It all started when I was getting really choppy playback which would be accompanied by this error message:
    A Low Level Exception has occurred in ImporterMPEG (Importer)
    This would soon after lead to the program freezing and me having to force quit the program. After contacting Adobe the first time about this persistent issue, the tech explained to me that it was a "Memory Leak" issue and that there was nothing that could be done. After the support team member ended our chat online before helping me solve my issue, I called support. I provided my case number and this person picked up where the helplessly left me and did the typical Adobe one fix all: He went into the hidden library and cleared all of my preferences, removed any third party plugins, and cleared the files in the root applications Adobe folder, renamed a folder "Adobe.Old" etc.
    As I explained to the support team member on the phone, this is not a solution but rather a bandaid until it happens again.
    Low and behold it has happened again. This time the support team member had me create a new System Administrator account on my computer thinking that there was a permissions problem with my other account which was conflicting with PPCC2014. While this was a major pain to switch between the new account and any other program that I had set up for day to day work, it allowed me to continue editing and at least (at a less efficient rate) get things done.
    Now, while using my new System Administrator account, I am getting terrible crashes that not only stall the program, but force me to hard re-boot my computer. These crashes are accompanied by a terrifying looking screen that I was only able to capture once.
    They've only become more intimidating as now I cant even see the program when this happens, but this is the only screen capture that did not turn out completely black.
    I'm looking to see if anyone has had any extreme issues like this and if so how they were able to fix it. I've now spent 6+ hours with support and after the last one was told I would receive a personal email follow up by the end of the day (never happened) to take further actions based on the performance after the new account creation.
    I need help. Now.

    First of all, try this: Re: A low level exception occured in: Importer MPEG (Importer)
    Next, make sure that if you updated OS X to 10.9.x, or later, you must check the following each time you update: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
    Other things to try:
    Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
    Repair permissions
    Disconnect any third party hardware
    Remove QT components from Mac HD > Library > QuickTime
    If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot
    Report back if anything here worked for you.
