HELP Please . IBM L170p ThinkVision 17-inch Flat Panel Monitor

Hello
I was given a IBM L170p ThinkVision 17-inch Flat Panel Monitor (ibelieve that is what it is) and im having some trouble getting it to work. I think i may need the drivers for it but i can not locate them online. I did a search on the IBM site and this is where i found out the name for this monitor. I typed in the " Type# " from the side of the screen which is 6734-HBO s/n xxxxxxx .
I have it connected to my laptop as a second monitor but i can not get a picture on it. If i hold down one of the buttons to adjust the screen left or right ect, the picture will appear for about 2 seconds and then it goes back to a black screen. I was hoping that someone here could help me out and link me to the drivers for this monitor ?  OR do you think there is another problem with why i can not get the picture to display, and if so do you know of a way to fix this ?
Any help at all would be appreciated Thanks in advance
-Curt
UPDATE:
I found this listed as a driver on here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-50550
I downloaded and saved all  files to a folder and then followd the direction from an online manual for installing or updating the drivers for the monitor and this didn't help at all. It just told me there were no better updates then the ones that were already installd..
So it must be another problem. Does anyone have any guess or fixes for this ? Thanks again

primul - welcome to the forum!
before we assume this is a hardware problem, let's walk through some troubleshooting first.
1: did this monitor work on the previous system before it was given to you?
2: have you ever used an external monitor with your laptop?
3: have you set your laptop to either mirror or extend the desktop onto the external display?
4: have you tried uninstalling the current driver and then installing the one from IBM?
5: what do you see on the screen during those 2 seconds when you press one of the buttons?
1. As far as they knew, the monitor worked the last time that used it, but they couldn't remember when.
2 & 3. I always use an external monitor on my laptop as an extended monitor so that i have one large surface for a screen when i do my work on photoshop.
4. i havent tried this because i dont have the driver cd to reinstall the ones that are on my laptop now lol.
5. i see my screen wallpaper when i get it to work for those seconds, or i see a window that may have opened up on that screen.
If it's going to be a pain to get this to work i'll just chuck it out or throw it on ebay for parts. Dell is selling new 20inch flat screens for 150$ so i was thinking of snaging one of those.

  • HT1752 What are the latest versions of OS X (and OS X 10.4) that I can install on my iMac Power PC G4 (17-inch Flat Panel)?

    Hey guys,
I was just wondering as to what the latest versions of OS X (and OS X 10.4) that I can install on my iMac Power PC G4 (17-inch Flat Panel) are?
Any information would be much-appreciated, as ANYthing that would make this baby run a bit quicker (withOUT burning a massive hole in my pocket) would be a GREAT help!!! (;-D)

The highest version of the Mac OS that runs on PowerPC Macs is 10.5.8. The last iteration of OS 10.4 was 10.4.11.
As 10.5 has more overhead than 10.5, I doubt it will make any speed differences and may knock speed down a notch or two. It did on a G4 tower I have with specs similar to the last of the G4 iMacs.
    Things that help:
    1) Max out the RAM. If you post more details about your iMac from Apple menu > About this Mac > More Info... we can see how much more RAM you model can accomodate (different G4 iMacs have different RAM specs; with modern modules, some can double the max amount of RAM the outdated Appel Specs call out).
    2) See if the hard drive is getting too full. Although it varies with hard drive sides, for legacy Macs you want no less thant about 15 percent of the hard drive space free.
    3) In OS 10.4, run the periodic maintenance scripts manually. Link :Running the Mac OS X maintenance scripts
If it's web video that's slow, you can't fix that. Most web developers use modern video technology that has abandoned any efforts to be optimized for pre-Intel mac processors.

Normally, you just connect the monitor to the MacBook using a VGA adaptor that you can buy from an Apple Store.  Now try System Preferences > Displays > Detect Displays.  You should now be able to select a display mode for the monitor.  If it still doesn't work, then I'd check that everything is properly connected.  I've had problems with colours disappearing due to a faulty connection in the VGA adaptor.

  • Migrating from old G4 15-inch Flat Panel to new iMac 24-inch 2.16GHz

Just purchased a refurbed 24" iMac with 2.16GHz core duo from Apple. Currently work on 15-inch flat panel 800MHz PowerPC G4 iMac using 10.2.8. Main applications are Photoshop v.7.0.1, Final Draft 6, and Office v.10.1.8. All important data is archived on three external OWC Mercury firewire drives. What is the most efficient, least problematic way to migrate? Or am I better off avoiding migration, installing latest Intel-friendly Photoshop, Office, and Final Draft software, and dragging select image files, and documents from external drives to new desktop? Also, how can I easily transfer my old iTunes/iPhoto/iMovie libraries over to new iMac from external drives without doing a migration? Thanks!

  • HP flat panel monitor - does it need a driver?

Can I just check if it is necessary to install a different driver for a HP flat panel monitor, as I tried to connect a HP 19 inch display and the display looked a little fuzzy, certainly not as clear as when it had been displaying from the old PC. Thanks in advance

No drivers should be necessary. Check the Display system preference and make sure the monitor is being driven at it's default (maximum) resolution. Some monitors don't auto-detect correctly, so your Mac may not have set (or even recognized) the correct resolution.
    Hope this helps.

  • Flat Panel Monitor Dimming

I have an iMac G4 Flat Panel monitor that keeps dimming itself to the lowest setting. This seems to happen when it goes to sleep. When the user awakens the iMac it stays dim and we have to go into System Preferences and choose monitor and then slide the brightness bar to the right.
Any ideas on how to stop it from getting Dim so many times during the day?

Try zapping the PRAM. The other option is to trash the file: Macintosh HD > Users > <your username> > Library > Preferences > com.apple.systempreferences.plist . This will clear your preferences but often solves issues regarding preferences as the system re-generates a new plist file. The best thing to do is just move the file to the trash and not delete it. If it doesn't clear your fault you can restore all your preferences by dragging it back.

  • Powermac 8500 Flat Panel Monitor Options

I have a PowerMac 8500 and my Apple Multiple Scan 15 monitor is making noises, the green power button flashes, the image distorts bowing inward on the left side, or the screen doesn't light up at all.
What Apple branded flat panel monitors can be driven by my computer? The Mac 8500 has a DB 15 connector, I believe.
Would I need an adapter to connect the flat panel display, and which adapter?
I have 2 Apple Flat panel 17"? monitors that came with my G4's I could test, if I had an adapter. Is this a good idea?
    Thanking you in advance.

You don't need to buy an Apple display. Any brand LCD display can be used with a Mac, provided that the computer had adequate graphics support for it, with a suitable hardware interface. If you buy a used display, be sure that it can be returned if there are any problems (like dead pixels). When you consider the initial cost of shipping and possible cost to return a bad display, I'd be reluctant to buy a used one at eBay. Many sold there are high-mileage units pulled from corporate use. If there are any retailers in your area selling used computers, I'd check with them first. At least you'd get to try it out before buying and avoid shipping expenses. Otherwise, the prices of new displays have dropped so much that buying one for your 8500 isn't money wasted, since the display can be used with any newer computer that you might purchase.
Have you ever added VRAM to your 8500? It shipped with (2) factory-installed 1 MB VRAM cards, and is maxed out at 4 MBs with an additional pair of 1 MB VRAM cards. You might want to consider installing a Mac-compatible PCI graphics card having onboard SGRAM or DDR-memory, to provide better performance for a newer display. If you go with an older graphics card, you'd be better off buying a display with the standard 4:3 aspect ratio - like your old Apple display. The optimal resolution setting for a widescreen display (16:9 aspect ratio) may not be supported by older graphics cards. Two old (but still good) graphics cards are the ATI Rage Pro (8 MBs of SGRAM) or the ATI Rage128 (16 MBs of SGRAM). Both of these cards have a VGA port, eliminating the need for an adapter. You could find these for very little at eBay - but they must be Mac-compatible versions. Cards pulled from PCs aren't compatible, unless they can be re-programmed with a Mac ROM. A newer graphics card, like the Radeon 9200, would be capable of supporting any modern display, but costs more than your 8500 is worth. That's when you should consider investing the $$ in a slightly newer, used Mac (like a G4 tower) with AGP graphics.

  • Quicksilver and HP L2335 Flat panel monitor?

I'm considering buying an HP L2335 flat panel monitor to connect up to my Quicksilver which currently has a GeForce4 MX AGP card but will shortly have an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB card.
Does anyone know if there are any compatibility issues?
    Kerry

    Hi,
The normal AGP slot provides 45w of power. The 9600 card is really a 9800 card that has reduced performance, half the rendering pipelines for instance. This was done to lower the AGP power demands and to remove the aux. 12v power supply (i.e. ATI 9800) because some folks are worried about the overall power consumption and fan noise.
The 9800 can require as much as 70w at full power, so the need for the extra 12v is needed. The 9600 Mac/PC version, being reduced in ability, was made to use less than 45w, so the normal 9600 PC aux. power connector and cooling fan were removed - and fingers were crossed.
This leaves the individual machine's AGP Slot to provide a full 45w of 12v power to the 9600, some do -some don't. Tricky isn't it, marketing is wonderful.
Personally, I find the ATI 9800 fan not to be objectionable and the extra performance is great. Adding the 12v aux. power wire is easy as pie, so installation is easy.
    Regards,
    Dave

  • Flat panel monitor recommendations

    Hi All
I know I can connect a flat panel monitor to my eMac using the mini VGA port via an adapter, but can anybody recommend a decent 20inch flat panel screen as the Apple ones are tad expensive for my pocket :]
    Washac

The Apple displays are LG's. The exact same screen from LG is about 300$-350$ and has a beter contrast ratio. You should try going to a computer store (other than Apple) to find the screen that I'm talking about because I dont know the model number.

  • G4 Ti4200 & Samsung Flat Panel Monitor

I cannot get my AGP based MSI G4 video card to work with my Samsung 17" TFT Flat panel monitor.  The screen remains blank during POST and Boot.  The video card works fine with my old Trinitron CRT.
Anyone else have this issue? anyone got a solution?
My old GF2 based AGP card works fine with this monitor, and I tried a PCI based GF2 board from a differnet maker also works fine with the Samsung, but I also tried a PNY FG4 board and it also does not work

Did you ever sort this problem?
I have exactly the same symptoms, and its driving me mental. (MSI G4ti4200 and syncmaster 171s)
I can't think it's a power suppy issue, but I am under the suggested 200W combined at 185w.

  • How to fix dead pixels on a 20 inch flat panel??

I bought my 20 in flat panel 3 years ago. Both the Dell and the Apple used the same panel from the same manufacturer. My choice was Dell because of the 3 year warranty and 5 selectable inputs. So much for history. In the last 2 weeks I have found what I thought were 2 areas of dead pixels perhaps 10x10 pixels. They were sort of irregular blobs. They were definitely not on the surface of the screen. i.e. dirt. On the off chance I was blind or something I took a very soft cloth, wet it with plain water, rubbed the blobs using my finger tip and they disappeared. I watched through a magnifying glass and you could see the surrounding pixels distorting from the pressure. I don't know what I did to the LCD layer behind the glass but the suffice to say the blobs were gone. The same thing should apply to the Apple display since it uses the same panel. I am not recommending this as a tested and guaranteed fix I am just telling my experience. PS, I am an absolute Mac fan and am not recommending any one elses product.

    thanks to me

  • HP w2558hc 25.5-inch Vivid Color Full HD Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor Remote Does Not Do Anything

I just got the monitor and trying the new stuff out.  Hit a couple issues like ... I have tried the remote came attached to the monitor ... the little one in the slot ... but it does not change the volume or anything else . Is there something else I am to do to get to work. Allen

I got the plastic cover off the battery and the battery came out with it, now I cannot put it back in, I suppose it has to slide under the lip but there is a little 'sort of' clip sticking out in the battery hole, below the model and serial number that stops the battery from sittiing properly in the slot.  Anyone experience this??

  • Hooking up to Dell Flat Panel Monitor

    Greetings.
I am looking into purchasing a MacBook Pro, but as I am new to Mac, I was hoping I could get some help in terms of hooking it up to a second monitor for video editing. The Apple display is out of my price range, but I have access to some great Dell flat monitors - a 19 inch display and a 20.1 widescreen display.
Is it possible to hook these PC monitors up to a Macbook Pro? I've read that Apple displays hook up to the MacBook Pro via DVI. Is this possible to do with the Dell monitor? How would I connect it?
Thanks in advance. Any answers and extra pointers will be appreciated.

You'll be able to use it in three different modes:
"extended" which extends your desktop across to span across the monitors
"mirror" which creates the clone you were thinking of
Both of these are chosen in the displays pane of system prefs.
The third mode is where the MBP is closed, so your only desktop is on the external monitor. You get this by closing the lid, which puts your MBP to sleep, then clicking the mouse to wake it up on the external. Note that you have to have an external mouse and keyboard hooked up, and the MBP has to be plugged in, not running on battery.
Once you're in this mode, if you open the lid on your MBP you won't see anything there. Hit cmd-F2 and the mode will switch to extended.

  • W2071d HP backlit flat panel monitor

My screen is all of a sudden (today when I turned on PC, I never turn off monitor) is YELLOW. I can't figure out what settings to change to fix this annoyance.
All programs, movies, everything has a yellow hue.
    HELP!?!

    Hello Terry_S,
You state the images shown on your monitor has a yellow tint to it, is that correct? I will try to help you.
Try doing a factory reset on the monitor.
    1.       Press the menu on the monitor (should be located on the front right corner at the bottom)
    2.       Toggle down to factory reset
    3.       Select that option
    4.       The monitor will probably flicker and blink which is normal
If that doesn’t make a difference, try hooking the monitor to another device to see if the same issue occurs, that will tell you if it’s the monitor or the computer.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.
