Help sought understanding auditing options

So, I have been asked to assist a site collection owner in implementing reporting of who has permissions to read or modify files within certain sensitive areas of the site collection.
I am aware that there is a way to implement site collection auditing.
1. As far as I can tell, there is no way out of the box to just audit individual sites or libraries within a site collection. Is that correct?
2. Where does the auditing data go - sql server data base or the server's local disk?
3. When trimming is implemented, are the audit reports stored in SharePoint or a shared folder?
4. Is there a way to set up a SharePoint group so that members can access the audit reports without the user being a member of the site collection administrators group?
Thank you

I have continued to read on this subject and it does not seem very clear to me.
I have yet to find instructions on the steps to turn on auditing on just one specific library.  Instead, what I have read seems to indicate that I need to do the following:
1. create a site collections policy at the site collection level that indicates that I want to turn on auditing.
    When I try this, a caution appears that auditing of "some" events is enabled for all sites in the site collection, regardless of which events are selected. What does that mean? What if I don't
want auditing for all sites on the site collection? Do I have to check events, or can I leave them all unchecked so that only when I get to the specific library I choose what events to audit?
2. assign that policy to a specific document type - such as "Documents" - at the site collection level by going to the site collection content types, selecting the specific types that may need audited, then selecting information management policy
editing
    The same warning as I mentioned in 1 is also here. If I want auditing for documents in just one library of one site, is that doable, or am I forced to have auditing for all documents in all libraries in this site collection?
    When I look at the site collection content types, there are all sorts of content types available. What if management needs to audit all current and future document types for a library?
There appears to be no way to handle this situation in advance - is that the case? Does this require someone monitoring the library and updating policies when new types are uploaded to a library?
3. at the library level where I want auditing, go to the library settings > information management link. The content type should now display the policy name. Clicking on the content type should allow one to turn on auditing for that library or list. However,
this is NOT what I see. Instead, I see a message telling me that a policy has already been set for the content type – and in fact, content types for which I did
NOT create a policy now have on
This appears to indicate that auditing is going to take place anywhere in the site collection instead of just the specific library and content type that I was attempting to select
in step 3.
I feel like either I have an incomplete or totally incorrect understanding of the auditing - or what I am wanting to do is not possible in SP 2010.
What is desired is to be able to look at the actions against a specific library in a specific site and to determine when someone gains access to it that should not and determine whether or not that person actually accessed the information to which they should
not have been given access.

  • SAP newbie - would like to understand integration options

    What are the choices when it comes to integrating SAP (MySAP, ECC5, Oracle Db) with another external ERP platform (Windows based with MS SQL Db).  We wish to create approx 8 interfaces (Sales, Accounts, Stock etc) between a retail ERP and SAP.  I understand that PI could be a choice but this seems expensive and we don't currently have it set up. Any help to understand interface options much appreciated.

  • Help to sum up insert/update/delete statements audit options in 9.2 .

    Hi,
    I'm considering what audit options Oracle 9.2.0.8 Enterprice Edition got for dml statements.
    So far I know:
    - there is no dml text stored except for sysdba/sysoper users via audit_sys_operations
    -audit insert , delete,update gets only who/when no acctual sql_text available
    -FGA is only usable for SELECTS but with CBO enabled or false possitives possible
    only solution is:
    -create trigger on every application table which will do audit via autonomous transaction and some homegrown code
    -create after logon trigger which makes trace like 10046
    -sniff network traffic between DB and hosts and use intelligent software to extract sql statements
    Did I miss something obvious here ?

  • Help with understanding initial admin account vs. directory admin

    Hello,
    I am hoping someone can help me understand the initial admin account created when I was first configuring my server, and the directory admin.
    I have setup an advanced server, and when I was going through the initial setup I created an account that for this discussion I'll call "admin." Once the initial setup was finished I started using Workgroup manager to create accounts. I was informed that I should create a different directory admin so I did and for this discussion we'll call that account "diradmin."
    I am curious why the initial account of admin does not show up in workgroup manager, and why it does not show up as an option in Server Admin to assign permissions.
    Is this making any sense?
    Any explanation is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Scott

    Hi
    Presumably you used the Server Setup Assistant to configure Services prior to bringing the Server online?
    Not a good idea really. When choosing Advanced after the Server Software has been installed don't enable/configure any service apart from Remote Desktop. Once the Server setup is complete run all available updates. Once you've done that begin to configure required Services using Server Admin. Once you've done that begin to populate your directory nodes with users using WorkGroup Manager.
    The key to understanding the two accounts (a) System Administrator (admin UID 501) and (b) Directory Administrator (diradmin UID 100) is understanding which directory node you want to provide services to. The 'Local' node and the server in general (putting aside the super user 'root') will always be admin. Once you promote the Server from Standalone to OD Master you effectively create another Directory in addition to the Local one. This LDAP Directory can be used for all sorts of things. Principally enabling directory and contact information (amongst other things) to be shared/accessed with users that exist in that node with an enhanced authentication system (Kerberos) not available in the Local node and if the Server is in a Standalone Role. This LDAP Directory is controlled by diradmin. You won't be able to use admin for the LDAP node but you can use diradmin for the server in general - although I would not advise it. You can use root for both nodes - again I would not advise it unless absolutely necessary. Basically use admin to log into the Server and do the day to day stuff and use diradmin for the LDAP. Get into the habit of never having both applications open unless you are going to use them. Once you are done, quit out of them and leave them alone.
    To toggle between the two Directory nodes launch Workgroup Manager and click on the small blue globe below the main set of icons at the top and above the Users/Groups/Machines tabs. You should see at least 4 selections: Local, /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1, Search Policy and Other. If you don't see /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 select Other and browse for it. If you still don't see it then you effectively don't have an OD Master. This will severely limit the ability of server to provide auot-mounting networked home folders as well as access to iCal Server's features amongst other things.
    Finally if you truly want LDAP and everything that goes with it then your DNS Service - wherever its placed - has to be correctly conigured and tested. This link is for a post that explains how to achieve this simply using the interface:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1251475&tstart=45
    Depending on your network environment it might not be appropriate for you? However stick with it as it is a long post and you may find it useful?

  • Classic Report + jQuery help me understand

    Hi All, need some help to understand couple of things
    I had a theoretically small thing to achieve on one of my APEX page (inline editing of one column).
    Classic report allow me to select a named LOV as a type of the column, and using ajax i was able to update changes into database.
    But the method i have achieved this functionality totally blocked me.
    Here how I did it:
    1) I have assign a static id to my report region (Move)
    2) In Element Attributes on that column i add on change event onchange="javascript:save(this);" 3) In function save() i have next record to select the value and primary key to be able to update the change in the database
    function save(pThis) {
    var newVal = pThis.value;
    var currIndex = $('select[name="'+pThis.name+'"]').index($x(pThis.id));
    currIndex  = currIndex + 1;
    var myid = $("#report_Move table.uReport tr:eq("+currIndex+") td[headers='PK_ID']").text();
    ... ajax call here is ususal using myid as PK and newVal
    }My HTML generated by APEX:
    <section class="uRegion  clearfix" id="Move" aria-live="polite">
      <div class="uRegionHeading">

    I have decided to ditch Visual Communicator as an option.
    Apart from the poor support, I have tested the Trial version and it would not make sense to use the application in its cirrent form.
    In a ten minute period using 2 cameras as a test, the application froze and crashed four times. Not acceptable as reliability is crucial.
    The test was done on a Windows 7 64 bit machine with 4 physical Xeon Quad core 3GHZ processors and 32 GB RAM with a 2GB Graphics card, so performance was not the issue.
    the application is just not stable.
    I am getting better support and results from both Wirecast 4 and Cutfour.

  • Can you help me understand the use of the word POSITION in TR and CFM?

    Hi,
    I am trying to have a view of typical BI reports in TR and TM/CFM so through my research I came to the following link:.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/62/08193c38f98e1ce10000000a11405a/frameset.htm
    My problem on this link and other postings on this site seem to be the same. Can you help me understand the use of the word POSITIONS in these context:
    1. Our client has asked for financial transaction reports in BW, such as position of Borrowings, Investments and Hedge Operations (TM data).
    2. I have a requirement on, some reports related to Money Market (Fixed Term Deposits, Deposits at Notice) something on FSCM-Treasury and Risk Manager. These reports will be similar to that of Loans, i.e. Position statement, flow statement, etc.
    3. The set of position values for a single position or a limited amount of positions can be reported by transactions TPM12 and TPM13 in R3.
    4. 0CFM_C10 (Financial Positions Cube)
    Do you have some simple report outputs to help clarify how the word POSITION is used in such environments?
    Thanks

    If I future buy 10 shares in company at £1 per share - at the end of the day my potential value is £10
    The next day the shares drop tp £0.9 per share - I have a negative position - my shares are only worth £9
    I haven;t bought them yet - but I have a negative position - ie if things stayed as they are - I am going to realise (ie end up with)  a loss
    Now you can use this for loans and foreign exchange banks as well...

    (assume dept table has cols emp_name and emp_id also)

    update emp set emp_name=(select emp_name from dept where emp.id=dept.emp_id);I guess that these are masked table names ? Nobody would have emp_name in a dept table.

  • Duplicate partitions, need help to understand and fix.

    So I was looking for a USB that I plugged in and went into /media/usbhd-sdb4/miles and realized all its contents was from my home directory.
    So I created a random file in my home directory to see if it would also update /media/usbhd-sdb4/miles , and it did.

  • One search help for multiple select-options in webdynpro abap

    Hi,
    I need a way to use one search help for multiple select-options fields. My scenario is :
    I have a table for keeping different organizational units' values of different systems. I have pasted some sample data from this table at the end of this mail. On the screen I want to have 1 select-options filed for werks, and 1 select-options filed for vkorg. (In fact I will have more org. unit fields...) In the beginning of my application the user will select sid.
    If the user selects ADS as SID, when he opens search-help for the first org. unit (werks), he will see the records with SID: ADS, VARBL = $WERKS, LANGU = SY-LANGU.
    If the user selects AGT as SID, when he opens search-help for the second org. unit (vkorg), he will see the records with SID: AGT, VARBL = $VKORG, LANGU = SY-LANGU.
    I have created a search-help taking SIDD, VARBL and LANGU as import parameters; used field mapping and bound this search help to my table. I have created 2 context nodes : org1 and org2 having attributes SID, VARBL, VALUE, LANGU .
    I have assigned related SID, VARBL and Langu values to these attributes at runtime as I needed. That way, if I use input field and reference to the related context attributes org1-value and org2-value2 accordingly, search help works well as I want.
    However, when I use select-options field , I can not bind the field to the context data. I can give reference only to ddic structure. Is there any way to reference to a context attribute? I searched for this in SDN, but could find nothing.
    I think I won't be able to use this way. What do you say?
    As I read from forums maybe using OVS help will be suitable for me. But I have to use one search-help for all select-options fields. Do you know how I can determine the active select-options field and pass its name (for instance "werks" ) as parameter to this OVS search help. (Also I'll pass SID and LANGU.)
    MY TABLE (ZBYYT080) CONTENTS:

    I will be gald if someone answers me as soon as possible...

    Hi,
    Your ques is how to refer to a DDIC search help to refer to selection screen parameter ?
    Am I right ?
    If Yes, then in the interface IF_WD_SELECT_OPTIONS
    method ADD_SELECTION_FIELD, ADD_PARAMETER_FIELD etc
    have importing param like I_VALUE_HELP_TYPE and  I_VALUE_HELP_ID, I_VALUE_HELP_MODE, I_VALUE_HELP_STRUCTURE
    etc which may help you to link your create DDIC Search help to selection screen params.
    this is just a clue from my side. I haven't tried it myself.
    You can go to the where used list of this method and find some sample implementations which use these params.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need help for understanding the behaviour of these 2 queries....

    Hi,
    I need your help for understanding the behaviour of following two queries.
    The requirement is to repeat the values of the column in a table random no of times.
    Eg. A table xyz is like -
    create table xyz as
    select 'A' || rownum my_col
    from all_objects
    where rownum < 6;
    my_col
    A1
    A2
    A3
    A4
    A5
    I want to repeat each of these values (A1, A2,...A5) multiple times - randomly decide. I have written the following query..
    with x as (select my_col, trunc(dbms_random.value(1,6)) repeat from xyz),
    y as (select level lvl from dual connect by level < 6)
    select my_col, lvl
    from x, y
    where lvl <= repeat
    order by my_col, lvl
    It gives output like
    my_col lvl
    A1     1
    A1     3
    A1     5
    A2     1
    A2     3
    A2     5
    A3     1
    A3     3
    A3     5
    A4     1
    A4     3
    A4     5
    A5     1
    A5     3
    A5     5
    Here in the output, I am not getting rows like
    A1     2
    A1     4
    A2     2
    A2     4
    Also, it has generated the same set of records for all the values (A1, A2,...,A5).
    Now, if I store the randomly-decided value in the table like ---
    create table xyz as
    select 'A' || rownum my_col, trunc(dbms_random.value(1,6)) repeat
    from all_objects
    where rownum < 6;
    my_col repeat
    A1     4
    A2     1
    A3     5
    A4     2
    A5     2
    And then run the query,
    with x as (select my_col, repeat from xyz),
    y as (select level lvl from dual connect by level < 6)
    select my_col, lvl
    from x, y
    where lvl <= repeat
    order by my_col, lvl
    I will get the output, exactly what I want ---
    my_col ....lvl
    A1     1
    A1     2
    A1     3
    A1     4
    A2     1
    A3     1
    A3     2
    A3     3
    A3     4
    A3     5
    A4     1
    A4     2
    A5     1
    A5     2
    Why the first approach do not generate such output?
    How can I get such a result without storing the repeat values?

    If I've understood your requirement, the below will achieve it:
    SQL> create table test(test varchar2(10));
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into test values('&test');
    Enter value for test: bob
    old   1: insert into test values('&test')
    new   1: insert into test values('bob')
    1 row created.
    SQL> insert into test values('&test');
    Enter value for test: terry
    old   1: insert into test values('&test')
    new   1: insert into test values('terry')
    1 row created.
    SQL> insert into test values('&test');
    Enter value for test: steve
    old   1: insert into test values('&test')
    new   1: insert into test values('steve')
    1 row created.
    SQL> insert into test values('&test');
    Enter value for test: roger
    old   1: insert into test values('&test')
    new   1: insert into test values('roger')
    1 row created.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> select lpad(test,(ceil(dbms_random.value*10))*length(test),test) from test;
    LPAD(TEST,(CEIL(DBMS_RANDOM.VALUE*10))*LENGTH(TEST),TEST)
    bobbobbobbobbobbobbobbobbobbob
    terryterry
    stevestevesteve
    rogerrogerrogerrogerrogerrogerrogerrogerrogerYou can alter the value of 10 in the SQL if you want the potential for a higher number of names.

    I need your help in understanding the FA acquisition via Internal Order. The process we are following is that we create AUC using the AUC asset class and enter that AUC number in the settlement rule while creating IO. Once IO budget is approved, we release the IO. Once GR is completed, we do the Invoice receipt for the PO, followed by settlement of IO against the AUC. Afterwards, we create fixed asset in AS01 and enter this asset number in the settlement rule for the AUC in AIAB and settle the AUC to Fixed asset for the costs.
    My question is that during all this process, I don't see the PO information in the AUC record. When I display AUC, under the Enviornment tab, I see the Purchase order link but when I click it, there is nothing in there. The reason could be that we are creating AUC seperatly and not from within the IO where it says create AUC. I am not sure what is the best way for the whole process.
    I would be thankful if you can guide me.
    Thanks,
    Shalu
