Help: SQL Developer Feedback Forum?
I can't seem to find the appropriate place to post this -- but I recently downloaded SQL Developer v1.5 and it cannot save database connections. Error log reads as "DatabaseConnections has no JNDI context so cannot list connections"

Sql developer not working which i got when i installed oracle 11g on win7
Hi i successfully instaled my oracle 11g on windows 7,but when iam trying to use my sql developer chich i got by default with 11g is not working ..when i open it its asking me for "select the path of java.exe file" when i browse and given the right path .iits again giving me the same pop and not throughing any error msg at least.
Could u pls help me out on this??Well, not supported does not necessarly mean does not work, but if you have problem, then your only way is to find a solution on your own or through other fellows who are doing the same.
Anyway, you could ask your question in the SQL Developer dedicated forum, but again, you could have some unexpected issues by working on non-supported config :

W'azup with SQL Developer barfing on SQL*Plus "set" commands
Check out this short script and the results it generates, as pasted below.
I can't find anything in the SQL Dev documenation re: what SQL*Plus set commands it supports and which it considers "passe." I'm particularly puzzled by the "column ... format ..." command getting ignored.
set heading off
set pagesize 0
set linesize 80
set feedback off
prompt ...start...
column x format a5
select 'abcdefghij' x from dual;
prompt ...end...
line 1: SQLPLUS Command Skipped: set heading off
line 2: SQLPLUS Command Skipped: set pagesize 0
line 3: SQLPLUS Command Skipped: set linesize 80
...start...
X ----------
abcdefghij 1 rows selected
...end...For supported SQL*Plus commands: SQL Developer Help > SQL Developer Concepts and Usage > Using the SQL Worksheet > SQL*Plus Statements Supported and Not Supported in SQL Worksheet.
The "column ... format ...." command is not supported. A workaround is to use substr in your select statement.

Oracle sql developer issue...
Hi,
I am using "Oracle Sql Developer" to access the database.I am not able to see any existing table when click on "Tables" in the object browser. But i am able to query the table.
Can some one tell me how can make oracle sql developer tool to show the objects.
Thanks.Hi,
Did you create the table after creating a connection? If yes, you can probably try a disconnect (right click on the connection and choose) and then connect again (or click on the refresh icon). A
By the way, there is a dedicated forum for [SQL Developer|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=260] . You might want to post this question there, if it hasn't resolved by the steps I gave.

Column numbers in SQL Developer
This may seem picky; but I find it frustrating to get error messages of the form error in line 35 column 83 and then not have a convenient way other than counting to find line 35 and column 83. Is there a way to jump to the error point? If not, is there an option to show a column ruler?
Jim Smith (and RaghvendraSaboo and Sentinel):
Many thanks for the prompt and helpful replies. These work!
I hope to someday reach the competence level to be able to be so helpful to others on this path of enlightenment.
One more question: Is there any way to help SQL Developer do a better job of screen rendering? If I scroll quickly either vertically or horizontally in a table or a query result, part of my screen becomes unreadable. An Alt-Tab to another application and then an Alt_Tab back always clears it up; but the process gets old very quickly. I experience this on all three of my PCs with SQL Developer.
Is anyone else having the problem? Can I change some setting to avoid it?

Has anyone had this problem before who might be able to help?
I am kind of in a rush because I need it for a college assesment on monday so any help will be really appreciated:)
Thanks
RyanWelcome to the forum!
Whenever you post you need to provide the full sql developer that you are using and all of the details about what you are doing and the problem you are having.
You haven't provided the version, what user you are connnecting as, what type of connection it is (normal, sysdba), the type of connection you are connecting as (thin, oci), the JDBC jar version if using one, the Oracle client or server versions. -
HR SCHEMA FILES PRESENT BUT TABLES NOT SHOWN IN SQL DEVELOPER - PLS HELP
Dear DBA's,
I am studying towards the OCA and working through the SQL Fundamentals I Exam guide text book by John Watson and Roopesh Ramklass. I have a problem with accessing the HR Schema tables in SQL Developer. I can get connected to the HR schema but no information is available when i click on the + sign next to the "Tables (filtered)" link in SQL Developer under Human Resources - BTW (I've downloaded Oracle 11G)
Please help, I've tried the following already;
1. Downloaded the HR Schema sample scripts again
2. Resetting the Sample schema with this syntax in SQL PLUS - @?/demo/schema/mksample systempwd syspwd hrpwd oepwd pmpwd ixpwd shpwd bipwd default_tablespace temp_tablespace log_file_directory/
3. I have no Master script file so I cant recreate the sample scripts
I've been reading forums and trying to Google but I am too new at this and just can't get the HR schema to display all the information in SQL Developer. Please help as I really badly need to practice the exercises in the text book.
Any help to resolve this will be greatly appreciated.

Where to find help with SQL Developer installation?
Hi,
I just want to try out SQL Developer and compare its capabilities to TOAD's. Unfortunately, I am not PC software savvy and now am stuck with a SQL Developer (sqldeveloper-1.2.2998) installation problem. When I clicked on the .exe file, I got a blank SQL Developer screen - there is nothing in the screen except a heading that reads 'Oracle SQL Developer'...
Does anyone know of a blog or a site that I can get some help with problems like mine?
Any help is much appreciated!Hi,
SQL Developer forum link:

There are 2 versions of SQL Developer, with/without JRE.
Try out the full install version with JRE.

Import data using Excel and Oracle SQL Developer - I need some help
Dear friends,
I'm using Oracle SQL Developer 1.5.1 and I need to import an Excel file into a database table. If I try to import this file in XLS format, fields and headers are correctly being shown and separated, but if I press "Next" button, it simply doesn't do anything - it stays stopped.
I did some search here in this forum and it seems to me that, when you try to import a file via XLS format, SQL Developer has bugs. Is this correct?
If I save the same file in CSV format and try to import the same file, it goes ahead, but SQL Developer is not separating fields and headers correctly. It combines all CSV fields into one - let's say Column0 and fields 1;TEST;01/01/2000 below the same Column0.
Saving the file in CSV format is not a problem, taking a very little time. But I don't know how to make SQL Developer import it correctly. Could somebody please help me? Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
FranklinHello K,
yes, you're right. I found the following topic after posting this question here.
Re: After update to 1.5.1, import from Excel fails
I downloaded version 1.5.0 and I'll use it whenever I import data from Excel.

Forum Search Tool - SQL Developer - Wrong location?
In the Forum Search - Category or Forum, the SQL Developer appears in Database division.
I think he should appear in the Developers Tools division....Another way of getting to the correct forum is to use a feature's portal. Might be helpful to know that route when unsure of which forum.
For example, in this case you could
start at Oracle Technet homepage portal
go to either
- Database product portal OR
- Developer tools portal
both will point to the SQL Developer portal
which points to the SQL Developer
This is simply to indicate that there are several different, legitimate, paths to a forum - including through the Dev Tools as well as through the Database area.
My point being that no matter where we put the forum, basic taxonomy principals indicate that someone will have a legitimate argument to move it somewhere else. Thus fulfilling the basic human need to require politics in any and every area of existence. <g> -
Need help in installation of SQL Developer in Win7
Dear Frens,
I got a task to validate the SQL developer(64 bit version) in Win7 environment. I followed the advice in this form and installed the 64 bit JDK first.
It can be verified:
C:\>java -version
java version "1.6.0_26"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode)
Then SQL developer asked for the path of java.exe for the first time, and after configuring it to the correct path, I found it had problems creating the connection to the database when I tried to click database connection button. Please be noted, I do not have the win admin right for the PC.
The error messages are listed below. Need some help from you guys.

Is there any context-sensitive help in SQL Developer. I'm looking for a way to link SQL syntax with some sort of a Help function. Searching the SQL Reference pdf just doesn't cut it. For example, when I search the SQL Reference pdf for Round, I get 134 hits. I would look for a page or 2 on how to use Round, with examples, but accessible directly from SQL Developer.
No there isn't.
There's a rejected feature request for this at the Exchange (http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=42626:39:947182819474243::NO::P39_ID:5662), so chances are very small it ever makes it in.
Nevertheless, you can still vote and add comments there; if there's enough weight on an item it will eventually make it for the TODO list.
Including the doc isn't necessary, but just linking to the correct page would save a lot of time. In the case of ROUND, on pressing F1 inside the code editor or worksheet, sqldev could link directly to the SQL reference (http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/functions135.htm).
If the team doesn't want to put it in, maybe someone else does. It would make a nice extension... if you feel up for it?

Urgent Help !!! Export data into insert format (Oracle Sql developer)
Hi all,
Please help , when i try to export ms access table which have 400,000 over rows to insert format using oracle sql developer 1.5.5. After the export have done the exported file xxx.sql is empty.
Is it because of too many rows? or what tool or function should i use for exporting table with many rows.
It used to have exported successfully with
Insert into table( ) values ();
Insert into table( ) values ();
Insert into table( ) values ();
Insert into table( ) values ();
----- when i try to export table with over 10,000 row.
Regard,
TunAnother option is to export your file as Formatted text (space delimited). This will create a fixed format file. You can either create an external table to access the file or use sqlloader to load it. In your control file or access parameters you will specify the positions of the fields you are interested in. Your control file will look something like this:
OPTIONS (BINDSIZE=50000,ERRORS=50,ROWS=200,READSIZE=65536)
LOAD DATA
CHARACTERSET US7ASCII
INFILE '/home/FIXED_FORMAT.dat' "FIX 58"
CONCATENATE 1
INTO TABLE "EMP2"
APPEND
REENABLE DISABLED_CONSTRAINTS
"ID" POSITION(1:2) INTEGER(2) ,
"REGION" POSITION(3:3) INTEGER EXTERNAL(1) ,
"DEPT" POSITION(4:6) INTEGER EXTERNAL(3) ,
"HIRE_DATE" POSITION(7:14) DATE(8) "mmddyyyy" ,
"SALARY" POSITION(15:19) DECIMAL(9,2) ,
"NAME" POSITION(20:34) CHAR(15)
SQLDeveloper does not currently provide an option to import fixed format files.
