Help,Using Sesstion variables

I want to put some variables on the session scope, and I want to access them through EL Expression, I have a login page which I use to log on my application, I want the username to be on the session scope without exposing the packing of the login page to the session.
I tried the following:
1)I made another page 'GeneralSettings.jspx' on the sesstion scope which will stay in the background and function as a container for my session variables, and I made a static input field 'username' and two methods to set and get the value, when I use the set method in the login page, I get a null pointer exception error, looks like I can't set the value of a field on a page without being in the page first.
2) I used a managed class bean class, with the static String variable 'username', this one worked using the setter and getter, but I can't use the EL Expressions to access that variable.
3) I tried to use the managed properties of a managed bean, but I don't know how to set their values.
would anyone help me please, I am a little confused right now (and soon I will start pulling my hair).
Regards,
ahmad Esbita

Dear Frank,
I am currently using the first option but with a little modification, I made the variables and the methods static, I think thats the reason that they didn't show at the EL expression builder, when I remove the static word it works very well , but the username var must be on the 'login' backing class and exposed as a session class.
And since I am not putting the 'login' class on session scope, I need the username in another session class ('GeneralSettings') and change the username from the 'login' class using the static setters and getters of the 'GeneralSettings' class, and thats why I did use the static methods in the first place, to be referenced from the 'login' class.
my code goes as follows:
public class GeneralSesttings {
private static String username = null;
public static void setUsername(String s){
username = s;
public static String getUsername(){
return username;
public class Login {
public String cmb_ok_action() {
GeneralSettings.setUsername("Scott");
thank you very much for replying to me, and any hints that you can give me on that well be highly appreciated.
thanks man,
Ahmad Esbita

  • Help using repository variable in dashboard text

    Hi,
    we have a dashboard section that shows current announcements regarding data issues, etc. This is just using a plain text object on the dashboard. I need to add the following to the top of the text: "Data loaded on xx/xx/xxxx".
    I've created a static repository variable called "DW_LOAD_DATE" and populated it with the proper date/time.
    I'm 100% able to use this in an answers query, but I'm stuck trying to figure out how to get it to show up in a dashboard plain text section with no Answers behind it. I've tried:
    {biserver.variables['DW_LOAD_DATE']}
    @{biserver.variables['DW_LOAD_DATE']}
    {biserver.variables[DW_LOAD_DATE]}
    @{biserver.variables[DW_LOAD_DATE]}
    In all cases, the only thing that shows up is the exact text from above - the substitution isn't being done properly. Can someone help, I'm obviously doing something dumb.
    Thanks!
    Scott

    Ok, I got the following to work (kind of):
    @{biServer.variables['DW_LOAD_DATE']}
    I was thrown off because the "preview" window shows it as the above string without doing the variable substitution.
    Now my last question - the above variable is stored as a TIMESTAMP, because in some cases we need to know the time in addition to the date. When it's showing in the dashboard text, I see the following:
    Data was last loaded on TIMESTAMP '2011-01-06 18:00:00'
    Is there a simple way to format this so it shows up like:
    Data was last loaded on 1/6/2011 18:00:00
    Thanks!

  • Using shared variables in a rt target

    Hi all,
    I wrote a diesel engine ECU in LV 7.1 FPGA and ran it for the past year, using TCP VI's to communicate between the Host and cRIO-9004.
    Next, I translated it to LV 8.0 (with some difficulty recompiling the FPGA) and it worked fine up to that point.
    Next step was to use the much-touted shared variables to eliminate all the TCP overhead.  I defined 2 shared variables as big clusters with lots of controls and data passing back and forth.  This worked fine while running under the source code.  However, once I compiled the Host and cRIO code (ECUHost.exe and C:\NI-RT\startup\startup.rtexe), the sharing stopped.
    I tried defining and binding the variables under My Computer and also tried under the cRIO target, with no success.  I was able to get source code to talk to compiled code (I forget which one was which), but not when both were compiled.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    McSynth

    That is quite strange. Here is some information regarding shared variables and building stand alone applications that may or may not help:
    Using Shared Variables in Stand-Alone Applications or Shared Libraries
    If you plan to distribute a stand-alone application or shared library (DLL) that uses shared variables, do not include the .lvlib file in an LLB, the executable, or the DLL. Use the Source Files Setting page of the Application Properties dialog box or the Source Files Setting page of the Shared Library Properties dialog box to change the Destination of the .lvlib file to a destination outside the executable, LLB, or DLL.

  • "500 internal server error" when trying to use F4 help in the variable sele

    Hi Experts,
    I am getting "500 internal server error" when trying to use F4 help in the variable selection screen (in WAD).
    How could this be resolved?
    Quick reply would be very helpfull.
    Thanks in advance !!

    It seems you are using wrong client ID. Make sure your logon pad has right details. You should verify this with your basis team.
    If the problem persists then try re-installing. But before you do that you can execute sapbexc.xla which is in the c:\program files\sap\bw. Type c:\ in cell c3 and click "start button". Any red flag means you have wrong version dll/ocx on your local drive, in that case you should reinstall with right patches.

  • Help needed with variable - trying to get data from Oracle using linked svr

    Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum - I just didn't know where to post it.
    I'm trying to write a simple stored procedure to get data from an oracle database via a linked server in SQL Enterprise manager. I have no idea how to pass a variable to oracle.
    Here's how I would get the variable in SQL:
    declare @maxkey INTEGER
    select @maxkey= MAX(keyfield) from [server].Data_Warehouse.dbo.mytable
    select * from [server].Data_Warehouse.dbo.mydetailtable where keyfield=@maxkey
    the select statement I need to do in oracle would use that variable like this:
    select * from OPENQUERY(OracleLinkedServer,'select
    * from ORACLEDB.TABLE where keyfield > @maxkey')
    and I get this message: OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "OracleLinkedServer" returned message "ORA-00936: missing expression".
    I realize that I can't pass the @maxkey variable to oracle - so how do I accomplish this?

    Please refer the example in this link which deals with Oracle date format.
    You can finnd a command DECODE which is used for date formats. If you have a look at whole theory then you will get an idea.

    Hi,
    It is a special variable available for the VAT summary part, not to be used in the rows but in a separate repetitive area.
    To display the respective VAT rates in each row, create a database field instead: Tax Definition - Rate%. It will populate the VAT percentage for you.

  • Using a variable as a value in jsp:param

    I was wondering, I have a String variable, vid_1, and want to use a jsp:include and pass that in as one of the parameters. How can I do this? I have to do some testing to make sure vid_1 is valid and set a default if not. It contains a number referring to which video needs to be displayed.
    Is there anyway I can get this value to be used in jsp:param value?

    Well,First thing you haven't pharsed your question properly.
    Anyways as per my understading.
    The first thing is make use of in this case as your defined requirement states you need to make use of variables of both the JSP's which need compile time include not at the runtime.use of
    <%@ include file="url" %>would be more appropriate as you want to use the variable of parent jsp to the child one.
    Anyways if you are thinking to apply a solution using <jsp:include/>
    <jsp:include page="url">
    <jsp:param name="paramName" value="<%=stringVariable>"/>
    </jsp:include>and extract the paramName's corresponding value as a request parameter in other JSP.
    Hope that might answer your question :)
    REGARDS,
    RaHuLRaHul,
    Thanks for the reply. The second example you gave is what I was trying to do. I thought I did exactly what you have there and it was not working. I will check it over again and post back on here when I have a chance.
    For now I was trying to use c:set to save the variable in the request and then using the EL expression ${requestScope.variable} to put it in the <jsp:param> element. I had some things working and others not when I quit. Hopefully tomorrow I can give you a full report and we can get this worked out.
    Maybe my problem is something else? Look at this post of mine:

    2. You will need a table with MAC address in first column and IP address in second to correctly map IP address to computer. MAC addresses are unique identification.

    hi Milos
    thank a lot for your useful answer.
    but let me say that my need has nothing to do with MAC address.
    in my test lab, i need an script which asks the administrators to enter their VM number & it saves this input as a variable & set is as the last octet in their VM IPV4 Address.
    so can we tell it as a rule that variables we create in powershell, can't be used inside non cmdlets (inside legacy cmd commands) ?

  • Using a variable in an instance name

    Hey all,
    Simple question:
    I'm trying to use a variable to call on different instance names:
    var picCaller:uint=2;
    material_mc.addChild(pic_""+picCaller+"");
    The code in red is the issue in question.  In this example, I'm trying to add a child called "pic_2", with the number two called from the variable "picCaller"
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Just for context, here is what I'm trying to do:
    I have jpegs in my library and I want to add them to the stage when they're needed, so just to add one image, here is the code I have:
    var pic_1=new pic1(0,0);
    var image_1:Bitmap=new Bitmap(pic_1);
    material_mc.addChild(image_1);
    I want to put the above into a loop so that I dont have to repeat those three lines for every image in my library like so:
    var pic_1=new pic1(0,0);
    var image_1:Bitmap=new Bitmap(pic_1);
    var pic_2=new pic2(0,0);
    var image_2:Bitmap=new Bitmap(pic_2);
    var pic_3=new pic3(0,0);
    var image_3:Bitmap=new Bitmap(pic_3);
    var pic_4=new pic4(0,0);
    var image_4:Bitmap=new Bitmap(pic_4);
    var pic_5=new pic5(0,0);
    var image_5:Bitmap=new Bitmap(pic_5);
    var pic_6=new pic6(0,0);
    var image_6:Bitmap=new Bitmap(pic_6);
    var pic_7=new pic7(0,0);
    var image_7:Bitmap=new Bitmap(pic_7);
    the variable "picNum" is the total amount of images that in the library, each one exported as "pic1", "pic2", "pic3" respectively.
    var picNum:uint=7;
    var picCaller:uint=1;
    var  picMC:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
    picMC=this["pic_"+picCaller];
    for (var  i:int = 1; i <= picNum; i=i+1)
         var "pic_"+i = new image_i(0,   0);
         var image:Bitmap = new Bitmap("pic_"+i);

  • Using a variable in refreshing tab

    Hi all,
    i want to use the following query in the refreshing tab of a variable
    select count(*) from Scott.abc where scott.abc.filename=#filename
    where #filename is a declare variable that contains the name of a file(text) .
    But when i execute this variable, it is giving invalid sql format.
    So can i use a variable in the refreshing tab of a variable??? if so.. how??
    Or if not then how do i compare the value of a column of a database table with the value stored in an odi variable.
    Kindly help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Easy method to debug such issue is to copy your SQL [ select count(*) from Scott.abc where scott.abc.filename=#filename ] into any SQL Editor.
    Secondly copy the value of the #filename from the History tab of the variable from the Operator and substitute in the above query and run that should give you a more clear idea .
    It would not only help in this issue too but other issues when you are fetching values from variable or query .
    hope this helps.

  • Using a variable in "arrayTerminatedBy" clause while using a file adapter

    Hi All,
    How can read a file of sample shown below using a file adapter.
    ABC|20081010|
    2008|xxxxxxx|
    2007|yyyy|
    2009|zzzzzzz|
    3|20081010|
    first line is the header
    last line is footer
    middle portion is the body
    '3' in the footer is the total no of record count in the body
    I am able to read the header and body.
    The problem i am facing is; when it is reading the footer it is treating the footer as a record in the body and is throwing an error stating - expected the format as "yyyy"
    I have to use "arrayTerminatedBy" to indicate the end of the body. But that terminating field is a varying field. How can i use this variable field in the "arrayTerminatedBy" clause.
    Can any one help in reading this file
    Thanks in advance

    See if this helps, I haven't tested it but it will give you a hint in how to achieve it. As you can see I use the startsWith command. I'm not sure how to handle your detail as it seems to start with different elements every time.
    cheers

  • How to use user variable in Member Formula

    Hi All
    I have to write a member formula for %linearity quarter for a weekly application.This member will be used in reports and we do not want to do this calculation in reports, hence need to write member formula. The formula is
    Week1 of Q1 forecast / Q1 Total Forecast , Week2 of Q1 Forecast/ Q1 Forecast.............,Week15 of Q2 forecast/ Q2Total Forecast.......and so on.
    According to me it should work in the below mentioned manner , but need help in improvising the formula.
    If(@ismbr("Weeks1") or @ismbr("Weeks2") or @ismbr("Weeks3") or @ismbr("Weeks4") or @ismbr("Weeks5") or @ismbr("Weeks6") or @ismbr("Weeks7") or @ismbr("Weeks8") or @ismbr("Weeks9") or @ismbr("Weeks10") or @ismbr("Weeks11") or @ismbr("Weeks12") or @ismbr("Weeks13") or @ismbr("Weeks14") )
    "Current_Forecast"/"Q1"->"Current_Forecast";......
    If anybody can help in suggesting how can i use user variable in this formula to achieve the required result.
    Thanks

    Hi
    Thanks for the suggestion and it would be a better idea to use ISIDESC as compared to ISMBR.
    I also wanted to ask if in the below mentioned formula if the result of first line is true than will the second line pick the current_forecast value of the respective member of Q1 and divide it by the current_forecast value of Q1.
    IF(@ISIDESC("Q1"))
    "Current_Forecast"/"Q1"->"Current_Forecast";
    Also i need to know how can i write a member formula for week YOY% using user variables.The general formula is
    Week 1 of FY13 - Week 1 of FY12/Weeks 1 of FY12
    Week 2 of FY13 - Week 2 of FY12/Weeks 2 of FY13 and so on till week 53.
    Thanks
