I would like to merge these 2 scripts in one, but i have basis knowledge on ms sql server...

    Dear Folks, I have three sql pacakges (1d.pks, 1d.pkb , 2d.pks, 2d.pkb, 3d.pks, and 3d.pkb). Each package has slight different code in their body but I need to combine all them into one single package. I can do this manually by comparing each line of code and keep making changes but I was wondering if there is an easier way to do it. Kindly let me know if you need more information.     If you have three pieces of code in any language that do similar things, you would want to refactor them, pulling out common elements into reusable components. It is no different with PL/SQL. Most of the effort in refactoring code goes into figuring out what those reusable components are and figuring out the appropriate interface for those components. Any reasonable IDE will provide you tools that automate the tedious bits of refactoring-- renaming variables, breaking a section of code out as a separate procedure, etc. But since 90% of the work is identifying what and how to refactor the code not in the mechanical task of implementing the actual refactoring, the benefit of using an IDE are not huge-- it's often just as easy to cut and paste in your favorite text editor.

  • JDBC: send batch of SQL commands as anonymous PL/SQL block

    Hi All,
    I did a little measurement to see if I can improve jdbc
    applications by batching dissimilar SQL commands into one
    anonymous PL/SQL block and execute it once. To my surprise, for
    a batch of 5 SQL commands, it take 60% more time than execute
    each of the 5 SQL commands separately.
    The same JDBC code, using similar SQL text batching, running
    against Sybase or MSSQL shows 60%-300% improvement.
    Is there any other way to batch dynamic dissimilar SQL commands
    in Oracle other than using anonymous PL/SQL block? Here is an
    example of how the "text-batching" PL/SQL block looks like:

  • Simple SQL command

    Hi all,
    I have a simple qn about the oracle commands.
    I heard about rowtype and cursor... and i know it is going to be useful in my following need but i am not sure about the syntax.
    so please advise me if u do know.
    I have the following sql statement:
    Select ID from tableA where age = 30;
    This will return two set of ID
    1
    3
    How can I do a for each value of ID (1 and 3), do the next SQL command I want...
    Can I combine the 2 SQL commands into one with the cursor? If so, how to?
    I am just not sure about the Syntax :(

    Not exactly sure what are you trying to do, but it either join or subquery:

  • SQL Command returns multiple records, but I see only one record in report

    I work with Crystal Reports XI R2 SP3 and Oracle 10g R2 database.
    I have an SQL Command that returns multiple records. Command name is "CommDivisionNames" and it returns column "CommDivisionNames.DIVISION_NAME". When I place this field into report details section of the report, I can see all 10 records returned and this is how it should be. I actually need this field to be placed in the report header section, and when I place the field there, then I see only the first record. I set that field as "can grow = true". When I do "browse field data" for this field, I see that all 10 records are there, but only the first one is displayed in report header section.
    I thought that I can place SQL Command field anywhere on the report (page header, footer, details) and that it will always show all records that it returns from the database. Can that be done?
    My "main part" of the report returns different set of records, and that's what I have in "report details" section. I need this list of divisions to be in the report header section, so user can see that the report was executed for DivA, DivC, DivE.

    Users select divisions from parameter, but the parameter multi values are division_numbers (1,5,10), not division_names. Division_names are visible in parameter_prompt_window as description, but parameter remembers only numbers and I don't know how I can reuse division_names later in formula.
    I do join for division_numbers and make them into one string variable and pass to sub-report, but I think that I can only get these division_names by calling an SQL command or calling stored procedure.
    If I try to do join({MySQLcommand.DIVISION_NAME}) I get error message "A string array is required here".

    I'm playing with cross-tab and I can use it to see all division_names in the report-header section. Since I need them in only one column or only one row, I have to edit cross-tab object and turn all unneeded border lines to white to make them look invisible. So, cross-tab could be a solution for my problem here.
    Another option could be to re-write my SQL command. Since I've read here that SQL command could be written in the same way as I would write a stored procedure, then I could use a bit more complex code to get all multiple division names from the database table into a local cursor, and then use do-while loop to concatenate them into one string, and then to return that string as one record (like 'DivA, DivB, DivC'), and then it should not be a problem to display only that one record/string in report header. It is my understanding that Crystal Reports can call stored procedure that works with many cursors/recordsets and CR will use only the last recordset from the stored procedure. Do you think it could be done this way?

  • Autocommit inside one SQL command

    Hi,
    I have 2 tables A and B each have two columns id and name. I used "update A set A.name = (Select B.name from B where A.id=B.id)" to update table A's name. However, when both tables are very large( say 5M rows), Since Oracle will commit only after a command, so, the DB will hold the 5M rows in the rollback segments, if the rollback segments are not large enough, the updating will be very slow. Is there any way to let Oracle commit inside one SQL command? For exemple, auto commit after every 10000 rows get updated.

    Thanks for your comments. We have done some tests:
    1. We used a flag to limit the number of rows for updating in 2000, 5000, 10000 and 50000 rows. We found that the time/rows in 2000 rows was much lower than in 50000 rows. The higher the testing rows, the higher time/rows was.
    2. We used single SQL (update ... select .. from) command to update whole table vs used one select SQL and a seperate update SQL to update table A one record by one record using Java. I thought first one should be much fast than second one. But there were not big diferrence.
    Do you have any ideal for tuning this DML?

    i have a bill with multiple item eg . Apple (12), Banana (49), Badam (145) , Grapes(25) with there quantity and now i want to Add these item with quantity in my database

    Actully I have been used tabular form but i am facing one problem when using tabular form ,in Tabular form i enter first item eg . Apple and there quantity eg. 12 in textfield and after click on Add Row Buttom data insert in to the database . but i want Entry Shouldn't go in to the database. But only New Row Should Add there when i click on Add Row Button.
    I want all these 4 item should enter in to data base when i click on Final Submit.
    So i have use this collection report to insert multiple item .everything was all right when i was using text field but when i changed these textfield into select list then error has arise .
    Actually i want also a cascade selectlist in this report .
    eg .item name depend on item code and item code depend on item category name .
    so i want when i select CATEGARY_NAME then item code come into report item and when i select ietem code them correcponding item name should come into item name field.
    for cascade select list i have created application process and java script .
    So please mike Suggest me some solution how can i do this .

  • Multiple Oracle SQL statements in one Add Command

    I am creating a report that needs a bunch of processing(SQL DDL statements) before the final select statement is generated for the report.
    I am connecting to Oracle database however Crystal Report only allows me to give one SQL statement in one Add Command.
    Is there a way to give multiple statements in one "Add Command" for the report ?

    you can add more than one "Add Command" in the same report, and you can also treat them as views or table, so you can link them to each others and so on

  • Query help in sql commands

    using apex 4.1 i'm entering the following query in the sql command window and I keep getting a pop-up for Entering Bind Variable. I'm not using bind variables though, anyone else see this issue before?

    I tried that and it didn't seem to help either.
    Funny though, if I write a new query against just one of the tables and write out each column name. it works. If I use the * instead of writing each column name, I have the same issue.
    This is in apex.appshosting.com free demo environment. I sent them an email asking about it and they told me it was a code issue and they don't support the demo environment.

  • "Between NVL" - Works in SQL Command, not in APEX report region

    First, I realize I could use dynamic SQL (model 4), but I don't want to (too hard just yet).
    I have a select statement with a series of Where conditions that employ values, in bind variables, supplied by the user.
    I want the choice of parameters to be optional, so I am checking for and replacing nulls.
    Select emp_name from employee_table where
    emp_rating between nvl(:p7_rating_choice, 0) and nvl(:p7_rating_choice, 99)
    and
    emp_language_no between nvl(:p7_lang_choice, 0) and nvl(:p7_lang_choice, 99);
    (the binds should be numeric).
    The actual statement is quite a bit longer, but the point is that the BETWEEN NVL(:x, min) AND NVL(:x, max) piece does not seem to work when used in a report region.
    It works fine if ALL parameters are provided, but returns an error if one or more are null.
    In the SQL command window it works (with a pop-up) just fine.
    By the way, the :p7_lang_choice bind variable is chosen from a LOV list which works in all other cases.
    Also, if I disable nulls (choosing "no" in ITEM page), everything works fine. It seems that the substitution of the min and max values via the NVL returns the wrong data type.
    Any ideas what I have done wrong?

    Every day brings a little more understanding!
    I also noticed a simplified method in the APEX documentation (although there was no explanation of the code) as follows:
    Where
    (column = :p1_user_input_1 OR :p1_user_input_1 = [null substitution value])
    AND
    (column = :p1_user_input_2 OR :p1_user_input_2 = [null substitution value])
    AND
    etc...
    Using the value you provide in the LOV section for the null, the second part of the OR handles the null situation.
    For some reason I was so tied up with comparing to the column that I never thought to have an OR with a compare to something else.

  • How can I search multiple columns in a SQL command of Union tables

    Hi:
    We have a database with tables that are nearly identical that we use for production and production history.
    I have created an SQL command in Crystal 2008 to joins several of the tables and then added a "UNION" to connect the History and Prod tables.
    I need to search multiple (3 total) columns for 5 different data types, to return the records being investigated. I tried this using an "OR" statement in the where clause and have had inconsistant results.
    The first two or statement function perfectly the third works as long as the value being passed is numeric and the last two fail consistantly with invalid column name errors. It appears that crystal is getting confused and passing the wrong data type especially if I do a new search using a different option for the "?SearchParam"
    Can some one offer some insite on how I can search these fields to return the record data needed

    Does any one know how to get a multiple value prompts to work in Crystal report SQL Commands? I have an extremely large database and do not want to pull back all the records to the report. I know I can do the filtering in the report, but due to the size of the database, I am restricked from doing do.
    I would like to set the State as a multiple value parameter/prompt to be used in the SQL Command.
    Ex.
    Select CustID, FirstName, LastName
    from Customer
    where State in ('WI', 'IL', 'MN') --this would be turned into a parameter

    you are over thinking the problemsimply create a parameter within crystal for your state and change it to allow multiple valuesthen in the select expert put in state = ?stateif you do show sql query you will see that the values are pushed down to the sql level thus no performance hit vs putting the parameter directly in the command itself

    The program uses four hexadecimal fields with length 4 - FRANKFURT, FRISCO, INTERSECT, and UNION. Each of these fields can represent a set of up to 32 elements. The basic set is the set of all airlines from database table SCARR. Each bit of the corresponding bit sequences representes one airline. To provide an index, the external index table CARRIER is created and filled with the airline codes from table SCARR. It is then possible to identify an airline using the internal index of table CARRIER.
    In the SELECT loop for database table SPFLI, the corresponding bit for the airline is set either in the FRANKFURT field or the FRISCO field, depending on the departure city. The line number SY-TABIX is determined using a READ statement in which no fields are transported.
    The intersection and union of FRANKFURT and FRISCO are constructed using the bit operations BIT-AND and BIT-OR.
    The bits in INTERSECT and UNION are read one by one and evaluated in two DO loops. For each position in the fields with the value 1, a READ statement retrieves the airline code from the table CARRIER.
    Comparing Bit Sequences
    Use the following three operators to compare the bit sequence of the first operand with that of the second:

  • In batch file i want to execute sql commands

    in x.bat file i write the following
    sqlplus user/pass@host @c:\a.sql
    @c:\b.sql
    when i execute this batch file it is connected to the databse
    and the table of a.sql is created in the database.
    but b.sql is not created.
    it is creating only one table
    i want ot create more no of tables with different .sql files
    like @c:b.sql
    @c:c.sql
    @c:d.sql
    please any body help

    The problem you are running into is that SQL Plus only recognizes the first command you have written in the batch file.
    sqlplus user/pass@host
    SPOOL c:\master.log
    @c:\a.sql
    @c:\b.sql
    SPOOL OFF
    SQLPlus will recognize the spool and first sql command, but the batch file gets command back after the first sql command executes and doesn't recognize @c:\b.sql or know what to do with it. To run multiple SQL commands you have to create an external SQL file with all the sql commands in it with the Spool files you want created, then in the batch file you only call the one SQL script.
    Create a master file like so:
    -- Script Name : AllFiles.sql
    SPOOL c:\master.log
    @c:\a.sql
    @c:\b.sql
    SPOOL OFF
    In x.bat
    CALL SQLPlus user/password@database @AllFiles.sql
    This should get you your required results.

  • How to pass multi-value input parameter to SQL command

    I'm having trouble following the threads related to passing multi-value parameters to a SQL command.
    I need more details on the work-around that exists for using a dummy main report to GET the input parameters and pass them to a subreport parameter that uses the input parameters in its sql command WHERE clause.
    So far the main report prompts user to enter badge numbers into a multi-value string type parameter field called badgeNumber.
    The main report getRequesters command executes the following SQL:
    SELECT requester FROM lawprod.requester WHERE lawprod.requester.requester IN  '{?badgeNumber}'
    order by requester
    The main report also contains a formula called requesterList that concatenates the input parameters and separates the values with commas:  (Join ({?badgeNumber}, ", ")  
    So if user enters badge numbers 1 and 2 and 3 the value of requesterList is 1, 2, 3
    From the main report I've used the Insert Subreport command to choose an existing report, and used the link tab to link @requesterList to ?requester; where ?requester is a multi-value parameter that is used in the subreport's SQL query as shown below:

    Following execution of the main report, Crystal appears to prompt for three values as expected: badge numbers for the main report, and start and end dates needed by the subreport.   I can't figure out why Crystal XI returns no data. Can anyone explain what I'm missing?

    The reason no data is returned is that the multiple values are not (properly?) passed to the main report's SQL.  The main report's SQL should be (MS SQL):
    select 1 as dummy
    This causes exactly one record to be returned, which will basically be ignored (except the fact that it will drive the subreport; any query that returns only 1 record will suffice...).
    Change the concatenation of the selected values to be (basic syntax):
    formula = "|" + join({?badgeNumber}, "|") + "|"
    The leading and trailing vertical bars are important (otherwise a database value of 1 might match a selection of 123).
    Pass the concatenated string as the parameter value to the subreport.  In your subreport, select records on (basic syntax):
    formula = (instr({?sr-badgeParam}, "|"+cstr({requester},"0") + "|") > 0)
    (assumes is numeric in the database, and is integer; modify or eliminate cstr() if otherwise...)
    Put your subreport on the detail format of the main report, and you're all set...
