Help when viewing swf webpage in browser

When I load a swf it works well and the document size is correct but when viewed from a browser online it displays the whole project even the objects tha are suppose to be out of view off the page. How can I limit the browser to the document page size?

Hi wurdup,
I'm guessing that your probably loading the swf file directly in the browser. In this case the browser runs the swf at whatever dimensions the browsers currently at, hence being able to see items off the Flash stage.
You will need to create yourself a simple HTML page and embed the swf at the resolution you want it to be viewed at.
Something like:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en">
    <head>
        <title>this is my HTML page</title>
        <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    </head>
    <body>
        <div id="flashContent">
               <OBJECT CLASSID="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" WIDTH="550" HEIGHT="400" CODEBASE="http://active.macromedia.com/flash5/cabs/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0">
                    <PARAM NAME="MOVIE" VALUE="myMovie.swf">
                    <PARAM NAME="PLAY" VALUE="true">
                    <PARAM NAME="LOOP" VALUE="true">
                    <PARAM NAME="QUALITY" VALUE="high">
                    <PARAM NAME="SCALE" value="noborder">
                    <EMBED SRC="myMovie.swf WIDTH="550"
                         HEIGHT="400"
                         PLAY="true"
                         LOOP="true"
                         QUALITY="high"
                         scale="noborder"
                         PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash">
                   </EMBED>
               </OBJECT>
        </div>
    </body>
</html>
You can read more about this at Adobes kb article:

Alternatively you could look at SWFObject as a versatile method of embedding the swf in to a HTML page:

  • No sound when viewing movie in Windows browser

    Hi.
    I posted a video on my website and it plays fine when viewed on any Mac browser but plays without sound when viewed with IE after booting Windows XP under Boot Camp. The following message appears under Windows when the video is selected:
    "Additional software is required for QuickTime to play back this media. It may be available from the QuickTime Components page."
    I couldn't see anything on the Components page that seemed suitable.
    The video was taken with a DV-PAL camcorder, edited in iMovie HD and exported to QuickTime movie with Expert Settings using H.264 codec and MPEG 4 Low Delay AAC sound setting at 48 kHz (the only available rate option) and 160 kbps bit rate. As well as the original soundtrack (dialogue) the movie has an imported music soundtrack consisting of two files, one .mp4 format and one .m4a format. I assume it is these imported tracks that are causing the problem, since I have QT Pro on my Mac, but only the free QT on Windows. All the other movies I have posted only have a single soundtrack (either original camera soundtrack or imported music, not both), and all play fine on both Windows and Macs.
    My question: what do I need to do to make my movie play without problem on any platform, without additional software being required by the viewer?
    Thanks.

    I solved the problem by re-exporting my movie with IMA 4:1 format sound. This doesn't compress as much as MPEG 4 Low Delay AAC but at least IE8 can handle multi-track sound with it. IE8 can handle MPEG 4 Low Delay AAC encoded SINGLE-TRACK sound fine, just not (apparently) multi-track. So if your movie only uses the original video soundtrack, or if it only uses a music track (with a slideshow, for example), it'll work fine. But if you have both, for example fading dialogue and music in and out, you might want to check that it plays as expected in the Windows IE world. If your movie plays without sound in IE, try another sound format. I didn't experiment with all the iMovie sound export options as I struck lucky first time with IMA 4:1.
    I learned about and recommend the free program IE Tester (http://www.my-debugbar.com/wiki/IETester/HomePage) from another poster here. It allows you to test web pages with IE all the way back to version 5. If 80% of internet surfers use IE (as some claim), we Mac-users really need to test our sites using this browser. My problematic movie now works fine with all tested versions of IE.

  • Flash Container...to big when viewing SWF files

    I have used Flash Professional  CS5.5, to make a SWF.file, that when I save as all, it also includes a FLA file. I use this SWF file in  Dreamweaver CS5.5 , Insert , Media, to view this I have set the Parameters name .swf, . When I select Live View, all runs ok, but how do you make the Flash grey box smaller that keep the swf pictures the same size….when I change any of the widths and heights the banner sow with very small pictures.

    Hello All,
    for me it's very interesting, 'cause Adobe makes some differences. In the German forum you are allowed to load up files too, see screenshot:
    Allowed are all file types and they are limited to 8.9 MB.
    We could send this thing to the wishform adress.
    Sincerely,
    Hans-Günter
    P.S.
    I so too can't understand why our questioner doesn't want to send a link. We're just nothing than normal users, Glen please don't worry.

  • Can't view swf files in browser

    We recently reloaded our web server. Since the reload we can
    no longer view swf files on our homepage. I'm not sure if it's ain
    issue with IIS or with our files.
    I've searched the forums and have verified the Scripts folder
    is uploaded to our server. I've also tried removing the files and
    reinserting them, nothing seems to be working. Any ideas?
    url is
    http://www.bardhvac.com/
    I've also attached the code.

    Hmmm....
    I see what has happened. There are two different scripts
    folder. One in c:\inetpub\scripts and one at
    c:\inetpub\wwwroot\scripts. I was copying to the wwwroot one.
    It appears that c:\inetpub\scripts is defined as a virtual
    directory in IIS, therefore the code would have been targeting that
    location instead of the one in wwwroot folder. Not quite sure why
    it's a virutal directory, but looks like it has something to do
    with our new version of SLmail (webmail application).
    I copied the AC_RunActiveContent.js file to
    c:\inetpub\scripts and gave read authority, the swf files now show
    on our website.
    I'll need to look into this more. Thanks for your
    help!

  • Mac/Browser crashes when viewing online videos (any browser)

    Hi,
    I've had this problem for a little while, and I'm not sure what exactly it is. Sometimes when I view a video online, whether it's Flash or Silverlight, Hulu or Netflix, the video will crash. Sometimes it's just the video, other times it's the browser, and other time it's my Mac. I've tried this on Chrome, Firefox and Safari, and it happens on all three. I thought it might be a video card issue, but I can play that are on a drive fine, and it doesn't happen when I'm editing video with Adobe Premiere.
    Any suggestions?

  • No sound when playing swfs in the browser.

    Hey there guys,
    I've been browsing flash sits from a computer (in a lab) and
    there is no audio in any of the swfs that I have played!! On the
    other hand I was able to play mp3's and other kinds of media with
    no hassle at all.
    Now I recon that the problem is actually from the browser (by
    the way, this is a Linux Ubuntu with Mozilla fire fox browser and
    flash player 7). Astonishingly, there is no problems when playing
    the same swfs on other computers in the lab (with the same hardware
    and software)!!
    I haven't made any of these swfs but I've been working on
    flash for quite a while now, and I've never checked the audio of my
    swfs on different browsers.. (oops) , so is this a common thing for
    firefox borwsers!!
    Anybody got any idea about whats going wrong or how can I fix
    this... :S
    Many thanks in advance.

    see the sound bar below the video preview, the one that shows the level of sound in green n yellow n red? to the left of that is a button. press that, and problem solved. you click on it when you don't want sound when skimming, just when pressing spacebar, and vice versa.

  • Jpeg shows up when previewing in safari, but not when viewed after uploading to browser. CS5

    Hi, I'm afraid I don't know the jargon as someone else has set this up for me and I just make new pages based on the templates.
    But I've just uploaded 9 new pages all with 9 small images linked to the corresponding 9 large images. All of them work except one, where I changed the image a couple of months afterwards. So now the 9 small images and it's corresponding large image come up with a blue question mark in Safari, and blank in Firefox. However when you save and click on Preview in Safari etc. it all works fine.
    I've checked the jpeg names have no spaces and no caps. They're exactly the same length as the other jpeg names within that set of pages; nothing longer than 10 letters or numbers. Also they're both RGB as someone mentioned that could be a problem.
    Everything else works fine in the pages and all links work.
    Hope someone can help.
    Thanks

    One more thing I noticed is the filename convention you've used.
    It looks like this:
    <tr align="left">
        <td><a href="evasion01.html"><img src="works/evasion/evasion55.jpg" alt="" width="55" height="40" border="0" align="top" /></a><a href="joy01.html"></a></td>
        <td><a href="evasion02.html"><img src="works/evasion/evad55.jpg" width="37" height="55" border="0" align="top" /></a></td>
        <td><a href="evasion03.html"><img src="works/evasion/evasion255.jpg" alt="" width="36" height="55" border="0" align="top" /></a></td>
        <td><a href="evasion04.html"><img src="works/evasion/evasion355.jpg" alt="" width="55" height="44" border="0" align="top" /></a></td>
      </tr>
      <tr align="left">
        <td><a href="evasion05.html"><img src="works/evasion/evasion155.jpg" alt="" width="55" height="31" border="0" align="top" /></a></td>
        <td><a href="evasion06.html"><img src="works/evasion/evasion455.jpg" alt="" width="55" height="35" border="0" align="top" /></a></td>
        <td><a href="evasion07.html"><img src="works/evasion/evasion555.jpg" alt="" width="30" height="55" border="0" align="top" /></a></td>
        <td><a href="evasion08.html"><img src="works/evasion/evasion851.jpg" alt="" width="55" height="37" border="0" align="top" /></a></td>
      </tr>
      <tr>
        <td><a href="evasion09.html"><img src="works/evasion/evasion755.jpg" alt="" width="33" height="55" border="0" /></a></td>
    I'd recommend that you give a proper order for filenames - they make your job easier - i.e. evasion01.html could hold evasion01.jpg as main image filename and evasion01_t.jpg as thumbnail image filename. This varies with different people but this is the methodology I'd use. Or another easy way of doing it is to put your main images into works/evasion folder with filenames like 01.jpg, 02.jpg, etc.. And put the thumbnails into works/evasion/thumbs with filenames like 01.jpg, 02.jpg, etc...

  • When opening a webpage, my browser stops downloading its content while waiting for an eternity at certain items, how can I filter them?

    Because of the location where I live, most of google services are blocked on the internet. Yesterday I wanted to download a device driver from www.m-audio.com but the driver's page stopped loading. I noticed a message at the bottom left of the Firefox window saying "waiting for www.google.com" or something similar. Because of that wait, I could open the page only after 4 tries and waiting way too much time. Can I filter page contents from google so Firefox skips them?

    You can look at Adblock Plus.
    * Adblock Plus: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/
    You need to subscribe to a Filter list (e.g. the EasyList).

  • Pb with timeline-integrated MP3 when viewing from a browser

    Hi,
    I have an anim called interface.swf which is loading an intro
    called intro.swf.
    That intro is infact a compositing anim whose timeline
    wontains some MP3 sounds overlapping one another and beginning at
    different times.
    All is working fine when I run my interface.swf file in a
    standalone flash player or directly from flash, BUT when launching
    it in a web browser (Firefox or IE), one and only one MP3 sound
    (each time the same sound), is beginning at the beginning of my
    intro anim instead of the frame it is assigned to in my timeline.
    It looks as if that very MP3 sound doesn't care about the frame at
    which it begins.
    It is really strange and it occurs only when viewing it in a
    browser (on a server or in local).
    Has such a problem already been noticed? It is very strange
    Is there any explananation?
    Thanks

    hi Ned,
    I currently downloading the tutorial link you posted.
    Do you have any idea what is really happening? Because I really wanted to have a loading text only before the whole site is loaded. The SIMULATED DOWNLOAD in Flash CS4 is working great but whenever copy it in my hosting server and view it in my browser the preloader is not working.
    Thank you for your immediate response.

  • Preloader not working in AS3 when viewing in a browser

    Hi there, It's me again Ysong.
    I have a problem regarding PRELOADING.
    MY TIMELINE:
    • First frame -- dynamic text which is my preloader with AS3 in it. NO MORE OBJECT in the frame only text which is dynamic.
         stop();
         loaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, updatePreloader);
         function updatePreloader(evtObj:ProgressEvent):void
              var percent:Number = Math.floor((evtObj.bytesLoaded*100)/evtObj.bytesTotal);
              myLoadText.text = "Loading..." + percent+"%";
              if (percent==100){
                        nextFrame();
    • Second frame -- the whole site in MOVIE CLIP which will be loaded after the preloading ends.
    ***The whole SWF file is only 600KB when publishing.
    ***When simulating download the preloader is working.
    MY PROBLEM:
    Whenever I uploaded these two files: (1) index.swf and (2) index.html, the preloader doesn't work. When viewed in browser it apprears to be white screen. After a couple of minutes, the index.swf appears and the preloader is not appearing as it should be. With (2), I didn't change anything on Dreamweaver just upload the file published by Flash Professional CS4.
    WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? Can anyone help me with this. I've uploaded (PUT) the files through Dreamweaver with a testing server configured.

  • Why does text on certain portions of websites, usually when adjacent text contains special characters, become jumbled into seemingly random sets of characters that are not in any way jumbled when viewing the source of the webpage? How can I fix this?

    When viewing most text on most websites, it displays properly. However, there are two instances where text will either tend to, or consistently, become jumbled into a mess of seemingly random characters. Oddly enough, these seemingly random characters are not, in fact, random. The same weird character will be used to replace the same regular English text character consistently across the entire area that has been jumbled.
    The two instances where this tends to occur most often, or consistently in some cases, are, first, when a paragraph or particular section of formatted text contains special characters, such as Chinese or Japanese characters, or accented letters. When this happens, usually the paragraph that contains the special characters is completely jumbled, while the rest of the text on the page will have intermittent jumbling on a word or two. Most often, the word "the" is jumbled in this case.
    The second instance where this happens is when a website uses specially formatted text in some form or another. I, not being an expert at web development, am not sure what kind of formatting causes it, but I can provide consistent examples in lieu of my experience:
    - Example 1:
    [http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/9564/firefoxcharencodingissu.jpg]
    Example 1 shows a portion of a screen-shot of the website "Joystiq.com". Every single article title on the front page of this blog is consistently jumbled, while the text of the article itself remains untouched. Please note that when this jumbled text is highlighted, it is visible un-jumbled in the right-click menu as well as in the source code of the page. Other consistent instances can be found within many search fields on various websites. For instance, the search bar located at the top right of "Kotaku.com" consistently displays jumbled characters both on its default text of "Search" and on any text that is typed into the search box itself.
    - Example 2:
    [http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/9564/firefoxcharencodingissu.jpg]
    Example 2 shows both the jumbling of the paragraph containing the character "☆" as well as the subsequent peppering of the rest of the article's text with small jumbled words. Below this is the DOM Source of the selected text which shows how the text itself is being rendered properly within the site's source. Additionally, for convenience, I have edited on to the bottom of the image a small snippet of what the search bar on the same page looks like. Notice how the grayed-out text that normally would read "Search" is instead jumbled.
    This issue has been plaguing my browser for the past year or so, and I had hoped that it would go away with subsequent Firefox updates. It has not gone away.
    Thank you for reading! Please help!

    This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.
    Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.
    You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
    Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.
    There have also been fonts with a Chinese name reported that identify themselves as Helvetica, so check that as well.
    Use this test to see if the Helvetica font is causing it (Copy & Paste the code in the location bar and press Enter):
    <pre><nowiki>data:text/html,
    Helvetica<br><font face="Helvetica" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font><br>
    Helvetica Neue<br><font face="Helvetica Neue" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font>
    </nowiki></pre>
    You should reset the network.http prefs that show user set on the about:config page.<br />
    Not all websites support http pipelining and if they do not then you can have issues with images or other problems.

  • SWF Banner works in Live View not in Any Browser? Losing my mind...

    Hello,
    I'm not a pro but have some web building experience. I'm currently building a website for myself in Dreamweaver CS5. I made a simple flash banner where pictures fade in and out. I placed it into my template and it works fine in Live View but not in Chrome, Firefox or IE.
    It has gotten to the point where I am losing my mind.
    I create a new HTML doc. Drag and drop ANY swf file. Saved Swf files as flash 8 and flash 9 even. Updated my flash last night for my browsers. Again... See it fine in Live View and not in the browsers i've mentioned.
    The browsers (except chrome which displays nothing) show this message.
    Content on this page requires a newer version of Adobe Flash Player.
    Even after flash updates and using a swf file saved as an older veriosn of flash (tried 9,8 and 5 for a laugh).
    Here is the html code (all generated by Dreamweaver). I am totally baffled and have spent HOURS scrying the internet to no avail. I even tried this in a trial version of Dreamweaver CS6 but had the same reslut. Please help me. What's going on?

    SWF (Flash) animations won't work in iPhone, iPad, iTouch, Android or any other web device that lacks support for Flash.  Do yourself & your site visitors a favor.  Use jQuery instead of Flash.

  • Video playback issues in Captivate 6 swf when viewed in testing environment

    I've created a training video from a company template in Captivate 6 and produced a swf file. It plays from my local machine and has been tested by others from our SharePoint portal. I uploaded the project through to our Team Foundation Server in order for it to be included and pushed to our testing environment. However, when viewed, no content populates; just a blank white screen.
    Has anyone ever come across this or perhaps know a workaround?
    Any and all help would greatly be appreciated.
    Thanks-

    If your Team Foundation server is a LAN server and not a web server then your issue is most likely to be Flash Global Security.
    Please see this page for reasons and resolutions:
