Help with difficult numbers formula

I need help with a formula im trying to create in numbers on my iPad. I'll try to explaine the best I can and attach images to help.
Ive created a spreadsheet to do rotas for work. Currently it calculates the shifts each person does and adds it to the total for that persons week in the end column and the total for the day in the bottom row. If the shift is equal to or more than 8 hours long then an hour needs to be deducted as they have a lunch hour that is unpaid for. This is currently done by a hidden row under each persons row that calculates the shift for that person on that day with the given conditions. Also is a 'H' (for holiday), 'RDO' (for requested day off) or 'X' (for unable to work this day) is placed in any of the cells the formular will return value 0. What I am wanting to do is to get rid of all the hidden rows and still have the total calculated in the end column for that person and the day in the bottom row. Is there a way of doing this without having to copy the formula in the hidden cell and adding them in series for each day to achieve the total? I hope this makes sense. Ive attached images to try and help with the explanation.

Hi Gary,
I believe that it is generally good practice to choose several smaller formulas over large and complex ones. As you noted in your question you could add your daily IF()s to get the result you want but it would be an unwieldy construction. I also suspect that the daily hours for each employee could be useful info.

    So my goal is to be able to use a drop-down menu on Sheet-1 with "day of week" and a 2nd one with "hour of day" to pull up a list of employees working on a particular day at a particular time.

    Here is another approach that takes advantage of the Numbers 3 native filtering interface.
    Have a simple data input table like this (no formulas) and set up a filter as shown:
    When the filter box is checked the list shrinks to show employees working on Monday at 10a:
    Typing new values into the filter rule boxes changes the results instantly.
    And if you have the data input table arranged as shown, you can not only filter it but you can easily view it in multiple ways.
    Here's Monday:
    The one formula in the table, in B2 copied right and down, is:
       =IF(COUNTIFS(Hours Input::$A,$A2,Hours Input::$B,$A$1,Hours Input::$C,B$1)>0,"x","")
    And here's A's schedule:
    The formula in B2, copied right and down, is:
      =IF(COUNTIFS(Hours Input::$A,$A$1,Hours Input::$B,$A2,Hours Input::$C,B$1)>0,"x","")

    if I x is greater than y subtract z
    eg
    if A2 is greater than 7 subtract 1..... so if A2 was 9 B2 would be 8 but if A2 was 6 B2 would be 6

    As I read your statement, x is the numer in column A, x is a constant placed either in the formula or in a separate cell (not A or B), and z is the result in column B.
    This example uses the constant 7, placed in a separate table:
    Formula in column B:
    =IF(A>Table 2::$A$2,A-1,A)
    Here, the constant is written into the formula:
    Formula in column B:
    =IF(A>7,A-1,A)

    I'm not sure if anyone around here can help me, but I'm trying to create a Numbers document and need some help with creating a formula/function.
    I have a column of amounts and I would like to create a formula which deducts a percentage (11.9%) and puts the result in another column.
    If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Here is an example that shows one way to do this:
    The original data is in column A.  In column B we will store formulas to adjust the amounts:
    1) select the cell where you want to formula (in this case cell B2)
    2) Type the "=" (equal sign):
    3) click cell A2:
    4) now type the rest of the formula which is: "*(100-11.9)/100"  that is asterisk, then open parenthesis, 100 minus eleven point nine close parenthesis forward slash  one hundred
    The Asterisk is the multiply operator  (times) and the forward slash is the division operator (divide)
    now hit return.  select cell B2 and hover the cursor over the bottom edge of the cell:
    drag the little yellow dot down to "fill" the formula down as needed.

    Hi all,
    I am creating a report, and need help with writing a formula...
    I am creating a report that shows how many visits/touches our reps have made to various grade accounts. It is broken down by calendar week, and I currently have a weekly "goal" number set that the reps have to meet. That "goal" number increases each week to keep a running total. (example: week 1: 7, week 2: 14, week 3: 21)
    I have created some different formulas and one is this:
    SUM("Activity Metrics"."# of Activities" BY Date."Calendar Week")
    What this shows me is how many "visits" there are per calendar week to customers, however it show me the total for all reps per week.
    What I need is that total to show, but totaled for each rep individually.
    What I was trying is this:
    SUM("Activity Metrics"."# of Activities" BY Date."Calendar Week") BY Employee."Employee Name"
    But...I keep getting an error.
    Any suggestions?
    I have the reporting book by Lairson, and have been referring to it...but my brain at this point is fried.

    I created this formula as a column: SUM ("Activity Metrics"."# of Activities" BY Date."Calendar Week"), it is called "total number of visits per week" and it shows the totaled number of visits that all the reps have done per calendar week. For example: Week 1: 10 visits, Week 2: 37 visits, Week 3: 20 visits.
    What I would like to do is take that column and break it down further, to show instead how many visits per week by sales rep there have been
    So what I was trying was to take the "total number of visits per week" (SUM ("Activity Metrics"."# of Activities" BY Date."Calendar Week")) and use "Activity Owner" (Employee."Employee Name") to break it down further.
    What I need to use is the total number of visits each rep has per calendar week.
    I think I am getting the error because you can't use "BY" twice in a formula?

    Having trouble with a cell formula that tests 2 cells for blank condition.
    I want to sum 2 cells only if they are BOTH blank.  (Trying to eliminate the
    "0" in the sum cell if both test cells are blank.)
    I've tried using ISBLANK, AND, IF functions but no success.
    Would appreciate your help on this. Thank you.

    Perhaps due to my bad english, I could not understand your question, but I want to help, anyway.
    The question is: why would you want to sum two blank cells? Or what you want is to sum two cells IF two different cells are blank?

  • I need help with a complex formula

    I am a current student attempting to keep track of requirements for college along with my courses that I am taking. I have two tables. I am trying to put an X in Table2:A2 if the data from Table2:B2 AND Table2:C2 matches Table1:SUBJ AND Table1:CRS. The match in Table1 has to be in the same row since there are duplicates. So a check mark will appear in Table2 once I've taken the class and it shows up in Table1. Does anyone have a equation that would make this work?

    Here's another go—with a 'complex' formula, and a couple of 'helper columns.'
    Column D on both tables contains a simple formula that combines the subject and course number into a single string.
    =B&" "&C
    Table 1::Column A contains the more complex formula:
    =IFERROR(IF(AND(MATCH(D2,Table 2 :: $D,0)>0,D2<>" "),"✓",""),"")
    IFERROR traps the error that occurs when there's no match.
    the D<>" " catches the rows where no subject and course number has been entered in the first table.

  • Help with page numbering.

    Hello. I've searched HIGH and LOW for answers on this. I've gone through the KB documents and the User's manual and NOTHING is helping with my challenge.
    I'm writing a manuscript. I need PAGE 1 to start several pages into the document and automatically repeat in a header on each page. How do I accomplish that? I've tried with Inspector but the minute I click into the header it "grays-out" the inspector control for pagination.
    I also have numerous SEPARATE Pages documents (chapters) that I want to recognize the numbering from the chapter before. How do I accomplish that?

    You need to break the document into sections in the +Inspector > Layout (2nd tab) > Section+.
    The First section would be your preface possibly counting in roman numerals.
    The second section would start your count at page 1.
    To edit the header if it is not selectable go +Menu > Format > Advanced > Make Master Objects Selectable+
    Click into the header then go +Menu > Insert > Page Number+
    To control the numbering go +Inspector > Layout (2nd tab) > Section > Start at+
    If you can't insert into a Header it may be because it is has been locked or grouped
    Both of these can be undone in +Menu > Arrange > Unlock or Ungroup+
    You will have to set the starting number in separate documents manually. Remember right hand pages are always odd, if need be add a blank page at the end of a previous document.

    Use the formula, I have tested by creating Months column with choice, Year column as numeric and Calculated column as DateTime returned.

    Before applying the formula few things need to be noted.
    DATE(YEAR, MONTH,DAY) will accepts three parameters all should be type numeric(integer).
    Create the Year column of type numeric
    Create the calculated column of type "DateTime" to return as date

    What I am trying to accomplish:
    The report has item numbers and each item number has the
    potential to be associated with up to three u2018binsu2019. So the fields are u2018item
    numberu2019, u2018bin1, u2018bin2u2019 and u2018bin3u2019.
    I tried to write a u2018if thenu2019 statement that would only show
    records that had a value of less than 1 in each u2018binu2019 field. When I try to
    write the statement I get a message that says u2018A string is required hereu2019 and
    it highlights the number 1 in my statement. I have a feeling itu2019s because the u2018binu2019
    fields are string fields and not number fieldsu2026? So I am not sure the proper
    procedure to correct this. Thus help is needed and appreciated.

    You must have a non-numeric value in there somewhere - up in the top left of the formula editor window, it'll show you the variables you've passed to the formula, which should help track down what's going on.
    You could try and check that the value is a number first by using something like:
    if isnull({IC_LOC_HIST.BIN_NAME_1}) = false and isnumeric({IC_LOC_HIST.BIN_NAME_1}) = false and then "Error - Should be a Number!"
    else
    if isnumeric({IC_LOC_HIST.BIN_NAME_1}) = true and tonumber({IC_LOC_HIST.BIN_NAME_1})<1 then {IC_LOC_HIST.BIN_NAME_1})

    I'm 100% new to any kind of programming and in my 4th week of an Intro to Java class. It's also an on-line class so my helpful resources are quite limited. I have spent close to 10 hours on my class project working out P-code and the java code itself, but I'm having some difficulty because the project seems to be much more advanced that the examples in the book that appear to only be partly directly related to this assignment. Another box asks for the quanity then displays the cost, tax and then the total amount plus tax, formatted in dollars and cents. It then repeats until a sentinel of "999" is entered, and then another box displays the total items sold for the day, amount of merchandise sold, tax charged, and the total amount acquired for the day. If a non-valid code is entered, I should prompt the user to try again.

  • I need help with the numbering pages in a book file

    I have a 53 chapter book that which each chapter is its own document. It used to work great. The page numbers of each document used to continue from the last page number of the previous document. That was until today when I opened it and all the page numbers now start at one. I don't know what to do. I have checked all of the options I knew to check. Each document still has the 'automatic page numbering' option selected. I truly don't want to have to go through and manully renumber every document. It will take time I do not have. If I can get somebody's help, it would be wonderful.

    Nor do I. It sounds like everything is set correctly. You might want to try creating a new Book file and add the individaul documents into it and see if that fixes things. Also, have you tried updating the numberingfrom the menu since this started?

  • Please help with page numbering!

    Right, so I'm writing my thesis and need to insert different types of page numbering (note: I'm using Pages '09 4.3)
    I've split the document up by inserting sections:
    Section 1: Glossary of Abbreviations, List of Figures. These must be numbered, but on a Roman numeral system. This section begins on page 4, but page 4 should actually read page 'i', page 5 'ii', page 6 'iii', and so on.
    Section 2: Main body of text. This must also be numbered, but using Arabic numbers. This section begins on Page 8, but I want page 8 to read page '1', if you see what I mean.
    My problem: while I've succeeded in inserting  Arabic numbering at Section 2, I cannot do the same for Section 1. Each time I try to insert the Roman numerals using 'Insert > Auto Page Numbers...' it just numbers the WHOLE document that way! I can't manually type in the numeral at the footer of each page either, because when you change one footer it changes all the footers within a section!
    I've gone on every forum, tried everything I've read, but it STILL WON'T cooperate. This should be the easiest thing in the world but I can't seem to do it! I'm going insane. I beg you, if I can't solve this soon I'll overheat and throw this stupid computer out of the window. Please, PLEASE help!
