Help with modal dialog returning a value to the calling page

Greetings,
Apex Version: 4.1.0.0.32
What I am trying to do is to create a modal dialog that is called from a form page. The dialog will present the user with an IR report that will allow the him to select a row and return a value from that row to a field on the calling page. I have it working in Firefox, but I get an error using IE 8. I hope someone can show me why it is not working in IE.
Here is how I am doing it:
From the calling page:
Created a button
     Action: Redirect to URL
     URL Target: javascript:var rc = window.showModalDialog('f?p=&APP_ID.:70:&SESSION.::&DEBUG.:::','','resizable:yes;center:yes;dialogWidth:1000px;dialogHeight:500px;');
On the called page:
The called page is an IR report where the query returns this as one of the columns:
*(Note: I had to put a dot '.' in front of the onclick to get it to show in this thread. It is not there in my real code.)*
select
<a href="#" name="z" style="color:blue; text-decoration:underline;" .onclick="javascript:passBack(''' || LOT_NO ||''');">Select</a>' SelectThis
, column1
, column2
from sometablename;This resolves the anchor to:
<a .onclick="javascript:passBack('232158');"  href="#">Select</a>Here is the Javascript function that is called from the anchor onclick:
function passBack(passVal1)
  opener.document.getElementById("P75_ITEM1").value = passVal1;
  close();
}When I run this in Firefox, it works as expected. I click on the button on the parent page. The modal dialog is opened and the IR report is displayed. I click on one of the links in the report and it returns the correct value back to the calling page and closes the modal dialog.
When I run it in IE8, it fails. I click on the button on the parent page. The modal dialog is opened and the IR report is displayed. I click on one of the links in the report and I get this error: “opener.document is null or not an object”.
I hope that is clear and that someone can help.
Thanks
Larry

A quick google search determines that window.opener doesn't exists when using window.showModalDialog
Suggestions range from using window.open instead of window.showModalDialog to using dialogArguments instead of window.opener
Try the following:
In the parent page define a getPopupValue() function:
function getPopupValue(){
   var dr =  window.showModalDialog('f?p=&APP_ID.:70:&SESSION.::&DEBUG.:::','','resizable:yes;center:yes;dialogWidth:1000px;dialogHeight:500px;');
    if ( (dr != undefined) && (dr != '') && (dr != false) ){
     $x("P75_ITEM1").value = dr;
}Change the button url to call the function:
javascript:getPopupValue(); On the popup page change the passback function to:
function passBack(passVal1)
  returnValue = passVal1;
  close();
}

    If the page root AM is extended then delete the extension by jdr_util.deleteDocument or using functional Adminstartor

  • Returning multiple values from a called tabular form(performance issue)

    I hope someone can help with this.
    I have a form that calls another form to display a multiple column tabular list of values(needs to allow for user sorting so could not use a LOV).
    The user selects one or more records from the list by using check boxes. In order to detect the records selected I loop through the block looking for boxes checked off and return those records to the calling form via a PL/SQL table.
    The form displaying the tabular list loads quickly(about 5000 records in the base table). However when I select one or more values from the table and return back to the calling form, it takes a while(about 3-4 minutes) to return to the called form with the selected values.
    I guess it is going through the block(all 5000 records) looking for boxes checked off and that is what is causing the noticeable pause.
    Is this normal given the data volumes I have or are there any other perhaps better techniques or tricks I could use to improve performance. I am using Forms6i.
    Sorry for being so long-winded and thanks in advance for any help.

    Try writing to your PL/SQL table when the user selects (or remove when deselect) by usuing a when-checkbox-changed trigger. This will eliminate the need for you top loop through a block with 5000 records and should improve your performance.
    I am not aware of any performance issues with PL/SQL tables in forms, but if you still have slow performance try using a shared record-group instead. I have used these in the past for exactly the same thing and had no performance problems.
    Hope this helps,

    I want to input two values, AWG and mils and return the value in the Days column.
    In the instance of what I am showing ....   AWG=2 AND mils=320 so Soak=110 ....
    I want to search the columns (AWG) AND (mils) to return a value in the column (Days) for that row into cell H10 (Soak)  ...
    So far I have toyed with LOOKUP, INDEX and MATCH ....

    SCW,
    I'm sure there is a clever way to cascade functions to avoid adding an auxiliary column in your practice table, but to me it wouldn't be worth the aggravation. I would add a column that concatenates Columns A & B, AWG & mils. This column can be anywhere and would be Hidden. Let's say your new column is Column N.
    In Column N, fill the body rows with:
    =A&"-"&B
    As good Numbers programming form would indicate, let's name the Practice Table Practices and only put the practices in that table. In another table where you do the lookup, let's call it Program, we will have the calculation/lookup.
    Based on your example, I'd guess that AWG may be in Column D and mils in Column E of your Program table, and the Soak lookup in Column F. If I'm wrong, adjust the column id.
    In Column F, write:
    =OFFSET(Practices::I$1,MATCH(D&"-"&E, Practices::N,0)−1, 0)
    The hyphen in the concatenated representation of the combination of AWG and mils is just tp make it more readable.
    As I'm sure you know, you could use other approaches, but since I had you put your aux column at the end of your Practices table, OFFSET with MATCH is a clean approach. INDEX could be used too.

  • LOV does not return value to the base page sometimes

    Hi,
    I have created messageLOV type items. These LOVs do return value to the base page usually. We have a user in Uruguay who is trying to use the page which has the LOVs. He says the LOV takes a long time to return to the main page after he clicks on quick select and also the value does not get populated in the main page.
    We have not been facing any such problem here in India. The LOV has been tested rigorously with no issues as such.
    Can you please suggest a reason why such a problem is occuring? Expecting your replies soon
    Thanks,
    Priya

    Thiyaga, did you read the devguide or the tutorial ?
    Can you please give me the inputs about the creation of LOV and it requires how many lov mappings as mandatory?
    This is there in the devguideHow to identify the mapping fields of an LOV which is already existing in the base page to reproduce in a similar way and need to do a customization on top of it ?
    Open the page XML and you can find the LOV mappings.Tapash

  • SQL 2008 R2: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio cannot shut down because a modal dialog is active. Close the active dialog and try again

    When starting SQL Server 2008 R2 it hangs , and I cannot exit...so when  trying to logoff to reset I get the following "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio cannot shut down because a modal dialog is active. Close the active dialog and try again"Any
    ideas?

    Big edit...
    I have 2008 R2 SP2 installed on my Windows 7 Machine which is also fully updated.  The marked answer above is clearly not the solution.
    The fix I had posted before did not work.  It appeared to work temporarily, but now I am back to the same invisible dialogue.  I have not been able to identify any pattern by which this is triggered.  I can have an entire day without this
    issue and then it appears the next.
    The invisible modal dialogue is definitely the connection dialogue.  The only way out is to hit the escape key to close it, but then I am no better off without an ability to connect to a server.  The dialogue is still invisible when I re-open it.
    However, even as I type this post, I have just gotten the dialogue to appear after restarting Management Studio, hitting escape, then clicking connect again.  That same pattern failed just minutes ago numerous times.  Again, I can't find any pattern.
    See you in the clock tower.

  • Return the User to the Calling Page - doesn't work

    Hello All,
    I set up the "Issue tracker" tutorial to get in tuch with the apex (htmldb vers. 2.0)
    All is working well but: Return the User to the Calling Page -> doesn't work. I performed all steps as descriped in the tutorial (iclusive the '.' on the &P7_PREV_PAGE ;-) ).
    I use my own aplication at home and followed all the instruction steps few times but it does not work. Can you help me please?
    Do I have to install something more?
    In the Branch section: * 1: Go To Page &P7_PREV_PAGE. (Unconditional)
    In the Item section: 90: P7_PREV_PAGE Hidden
    In the Button section for cancel Button: &P7_PREV_PAGE.
    Here is the description of the function in the tutorial:
    Because this Create/Edit page will be called from several places, when users finish with the display they should return to the calling page. To accomplish this, you create an item and change the branch on this page. Every time this page is called, the item must be set with the number of the calling page.
    To create a hidden item:
    1. Under Items, click the Create icon.
    2. For Select Item Type, select Hidden and click Next.
    3. For Display Position and Name:
    1. For Item Name, enter:
    P7_PREV_PAGE
    2. For Region, select Issue Identification.
    3. Click Next.
    4.
    Click Create Item.
    Next, edit the Cancel button.
    5. Under Buttons, select Cancel.
    6. Scroll down to Optional URL Redirect.
    7. In Page, enter:
    &P7_PREV_PAGE.
    Note the period at the end.
    8. Click Apply Changes.
    Next, edit the branch.
    9. Under Action, enter the following in Page:
    &P7_PREV_PAGE.
    10. Click Apply Changes.
    All steps are done but I still got the message: Error ERR-1016 Application "106" Page "0" not found (requested language="de")
    OK
    I move the mousepointer over the cancel button: javascript:redirect('f?p=106:0:5265993428922076876::NO:::')
    Thank you for helping me!
    best regards Thorsten

    All,
    I haven't looked at that tutorial for quite a while but just gave it a quick look.
    Further down in the tutorial, it directs you to set the value of P7_PREV_PAGE, under Add Functionality to Support Adding Multiple Issues Sequentially - have you done that? There is also a mention that there is more branching to be done - "The branch you just created is looking for a value in P7_PREV_PAGE. Since the page was not called from another page, the value has not been set. You need to fix that next." It goes on to have you define that value from other places.
    Can you describe what you are doing when you get the error? There could be something missing from the tutorial. A way around it would be to create a default value for P7_PREV_PAGE so that if it is not set, a default page will be used.

  • Doubt : retaining the value between the calls

    hi,
    Which statement would you use to declare a variable, within a Function Module/Form-routine, so as it will retain the value between the calls?"
    Gaurav

    Dear Gaurav,
    To retain the same value outside a function module, you can define a variable with the same name as the exporting parameter in a function module. However in case of Subroutines you can pass the value by reference as any change in the formal parameters will be reflected in the actual parameters.

  • Any way to return to the calling page from the User Profile Editor page?

    I built a url to the User Profile Editor page, and upon playing around with some of the parameters in the url itself, I have the Editor page returning to My Page (home page) for the logged in user. I would like to get it to return to the calling page, which is not necessarily a My Page. It might be a Community page. I'm not quite sure what the Editor Type value is and if it is even relevant. (it is hard-coded right now, and I've tried changing it to several values). Here is the url string:
    http://awg1/portal/server.pt?open=space&name=UserProfileEditor&psname=OpenerPageID=253&cached=false&in_hi_userid=257&control=EditorStart&editorType=10. It would be really nice to be able to open the editor with a tag!

    You can use a table
    This was answered in the Numbers forum by someone else so cant take any credit.
    Put "1" in first cell
    put 2 in cell below
    Select both cells and hover mouse over botton right hand corner ( you should get a cross) click and drag down and sequential numbers will fill into the blank cells - and over the page if you wish.
    Is that what you are after?
    Or you can always use a numbered list but that would be by paragraph not line.

  • Gallery with Paypal buttons and drop-downs on the index page?

    I'm looking for a LR gallery where I can have thumbnails with Paypal buttons and drop-downs on the index page.
    I would prefer to keep my galleries interface streamlined and don't want to clutter it up with dropdowns and cart. I would like to have 1 page for ordering that has all my images as thumbnails with drop downs for price and size, rather than right-clicking on and image which opens in another page like the LRG Gallery with Paypal.
    I don't have a lot of experience messing with code, and none with .js. I did make a drop down in Paypal and have the code, but I think things would be pretty unwield it I designed a page as a table like I would in MS Word.
    I'm familiar with LRG Complete gallery, but don't see that it has the ability to not require a right click to order.

  • I got error message in Firefox when passing the dropdown value to the next page

    Hello:
    I am using Ajax to populate a dropdown box. When I pass the
    value to the next page, I got an error message saying
    'form.thevalue' is undefined in Firefox. It works fine in IE.
    Please find part of the code below:
    form.cfm:
    <select name="appointment_date" id="appointment_date"
    onchange="showTime(document.apptform.select_employee.value,
    this.value, ' ' )">
    <option value=''>[Select]</option>
    <cfloop list="#datelist#" index="thedate">
    <cfif thedate eq '#chg_appointment_date#'>
    <cfset select='SELECTED'>
    <cfelse>
    <cfset select=''>
    </cfif>
    <cfoutput><option value="#thedate#"
    #select#>#thedate#</option></cfoutput>
    </cfloop>
    </select>
    <span id="TimeList"></span>
    GetTime.js:
    var oXmlHttp
    function showTime(staff, date, available)
    var url="/cf/misc/GetTime.cfm?nicknm=" + staff + "&dt=" +
    date + "&ti=" + available
    oXmlHttp=GetHttpObject(stateChanged)
    oXmlHttp.open("GET", url , true)
    oXmlHttp.send(null)
    function stateChanged()
    if (oXmlHttp.readyState==4 ||
    oXmlHttp.readyState=="complete")
    document.getElementById("TimeList").innerHTML=oXmlHttp.responseText
    function GetHttpObject(handler)
    try
    var oRequester = new XMLHttpRequest();
    oRequester.onload=handler
    oRequester.onerror=handler
    return oRequester
    catch (error)
    try
    var oRequester = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
    oRequester.onreadystatechange=handler
    return oRequester
    catch (error)
    return false;
    GetTime.cfm:
    <CFINCLUDE TEMPLATE="include.cfm">
    <cfset timelist = arrayToList(structSort(atime,
    "numeric"))>
    <span>
    <select name="available_time">
    <cfif #trim(URL.nicknm)# eq 'All'>
    <option value=''>[Select]</option>
    <cfloop list='#timelist#' index='time'>
    <cfif time EQ '#trim(url.ti)#'>
    <cfset select = 'SELECTED'>
    <cfelse>
    <cfset select = ''>
    </cfif>
    <cfoutput><option value="#atime[time]#"
    #select#>#time#</option></cfoutput>
    </cfloop>
    <cfelse>
    </cfif>
    </select>
    </span>
    When I pass #form.available_time# to the next page, in
    Firefox I got error saying 'form.available_time' is undefined. Any
    idea, please?
    Thanks in advance.
