Help with Pages / Word conversion, please

I am trying to use iPad to take meeting notes. I've been using Word for a while, and storing notes in Google Drive for fast access.
I ran into four problems so far:
It appears Word Outline mode is not supported. Probably nothing I can do here. But if there's a workaround, I'd love to know.
If I use some common fonts (like Tahoma) to create Word document, the conversion to pages will preserve formatting (bold and italic), but the conversion from pages will lose it. Some other fonts (Helvetica) seem to preserve formatting OK. Is there a fix, or should I just use Helvetica everywhere ?
This is important to me: If I have spaces in the name of the file, they get removed on conversion, e.g. "May 14 meeting notes" become "may14meetingnotes". This is very annoying, is there a way around it ?
For some reason, Google Docs viewer chokes on .docx files converted by Pages. The same files open fine in Word, and if re-uploaded open fine in Google Doc Viewer. Again, any fix ?
If you can recomment an alternate, inexpensive or freeware rich text editor that can create .doc or .rtf files which have better Word and Google Drive compatibility, I'd appreciate that. What I am primarily looking for is basic formatting (bold / colors, even italics aren't important), outlining (bullets, at least), and search function. Tables would be great but not necessary.
CloudOn does support many more functions, but it's slow to start, and last time I checked it only worked online. I need to be able to type things offline.

In trying to transition to Pages from Word, I have encountered several problems. I would be ever so appreciative if people could advise on solutions:
1. The autocorrect function does not support formatted text. Is this correct?
2. I don't seem to be to change the default font from Helvetica to Times Roman? Is this correct?
3. There doesn't seem to an auto-save function where Pages can be set automatically backup at predetermined intervals.
4. Embedded Endnote citations do not seem to reflect changes in the Endnote Library - e.g a spelling correction.
5. The Endnote menu doesn't have a page reference number adjacent to 'prefix' and 'suffix' with the edit citation function. The suffix box can be used for page numbers but it means inserting a space before the numeric entry. These would then need to be removed at a later date. Is there a work around on this?
6. There doesn't seem to be anyway to import Word documents with embedded Endnote citations - ie. keeping the citations 'live'. This causes two problems.
a) It would mean redoing entire documents, which is concerning.
b) It would also imply that there would be problems if the document was exported from Pages to Word for another user and then reimported in Pages.
7. There doesn't seem to be anyway to set the spell-check and grammar functions for personal style or technical level.
If anyone can offer advice or solutions to any of the above problems, I would very grateful.

Are you saying the formatting is lost or that it won't correct formatted text? Because neither is true to my knowledge.

The font is whatever was set in the template you start with. So create a template to your liking.

Pages does not have auto-save, nor needed it in my experience. Use the freeware EverSave, which will do the job for *all applications*.

There is a personal dictionary to which you can add your own spellcheck words, but nothing beyond that to my knowledge.

Need Help with data type conversion

Hello People,
I am new to java, i need some help with data type conversion:
I have variable(string) storing IP Address
IPAddr="10.10.103.10"
I have to call a library function which passes IP Address and does something and returns me a value.
The problem I have is that external function call in this library excepts IP Address in form of a byte array.
Here is the syntax for the function I am calling through my program
int createDevice (byte[] ipAddress).
now my problem is I don't know how to convert the string IPAddr variable into a byte[] ipAddress to pass it through method.

Class InetAddress has a method
byte[] getAddress() You can create an instance using the static method getByName() providing the IP address string as argument.

Help with Page Breaks!

Hello,
I am having great difficulty with page breaks.
I have included a link below to a jpg of a format template I am working on (edited for public release, but it works):

The layout template has many text form fields but I have re-colored them all to grey so that the pagebreak stands out in pink (and default text is the same as the help text for clarity).
The data format that I am using for this layout template can be found at:

This data is for sample use only and would (normally) contain many G_ORDERS for multiple G_ORD_TYPES in multiple G_REGIONS.
My problem is that it does not matter where I place the page break, it simply does not work correctly.
As you can see from the current placement I WISH the report to break between each and every occurrences of REGION in the group “REGION”. At this placement it does not break at all.
I ‘can’ get the report to break (incorrectly, but at least it breaks) if I place this exact same syntax into the innermost grouping of data (i.e. the G_ORDER group) but even then the breaking is NOT CONSISTENT at all. In this case I would ‘expect’ it to break before every order…it does not.
I have also tried the syntax: “ <xsl:if xdofo:ctx="inblock" test="1=1"><xsl:attribute name="break-before">page</xsl:attribute></xsl:if> “ (without the quotes which got from he forum here) as well as the MSWORD pagebreak (which has never worked for me). None of these work correctly.
Any assistance in or insight into getting my reports to CONSISTENTLY break at the appropriate times would be most appreciated as I have been trying to get this to work for several days now...

I have the pagebreak problem working, but I would dearly like some insight as to why/how it is working…
I have template builder 10.1.3.2.1 for reference and I now have the report breaking at the correct times, i.e. after each region.
My confusion is that to get it to work I must use the syntax and placement of the pagebreak text field exactly as shown below. No other placement cause the pages to break correctly and the other syntax sample varations I have found on this forum, etc (listed above) do not work at all.
Please review the link to the (now working format template) jpg and provide feedback/insight.

Need help with Page Layout and Background Scaling

hello, everyone.
I am in the process of designing a new website for myself,
and while I was researching nicely designed pages to use as
inspiration, I stumbled upon this site:

incorporates a lot of web mechanics that I have been trying to
figure out, so I will use this page as an example.
one thing I need help with is backgrounds. as you can see in
the posted website, the creator used a seamlessly tiled paper
texture to display the bulk of his content on. also make not of the
pattern that is located to the left of the paper texture. how do I
create seamless backgrounds like this that will scale to fit any
amount of content or any resolution? I can't imagine that the guy
that made that site created a new size background every time he
made an update, so there has to be an easier way.
the second thing that I am having trouble with is general
site layout. I have read that most sites used series of invisible
tables to organize there content, but when I open the source of
this page in dreamweaver, he was using something different. div
tags? should I be using these? who do I use them? are there any
general layout tips that someone could pass on to me? perhaps a
link to a good tutorial?

I need help with my flash player installation because every time I access a movie this is the message I receive.
This content on Xfinity TV is not available for viewing with Chrome's "Incognito" mode. To play this video using Chrome, please view this page without "Incognito" mode.

Incognito mode is a Google Chrome setting when you open a new window (Cmd+Shift+N on a Mac Ctrl+Shift+N on Windows) It opens a "private" window with no cookies and no tracking. The problem with it is that when you disable cookies, your license files are not sent to the site (whetehr it's YouTube or xFinity or any other that uses license files for paid content) and it treats you as if you're a first time visitor. Paid videos won't play wihtout the cookies sending the license file info.
This isn't a Flash Player setting. It's in Chrome. I did some research and according to Google, "Incignito" mode is off by default, and can ONLY be activate by the keyboard shortcut. There IS a way to disable it from the registry http://dev.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3#IncognitoModeAvailability

Help with css3 rollover tag please

Hey guys I'm stumped and need help with positioning some big picture buttons.

As u can see I have four picture buttons using css3 roller but I want all four buttons next to each other
2 buttons next to each other with the next 2 directly below .
Now orgininally I used the dreamweaver rollover button and everything was inline so flowed across the page no problem. These are divs and I've tried to make 2 panels side by side among other hings but I'm not getting there so I thought one of u clever guys would have no problems telling me what to do.
Please help I'm not getting the inline or absolute placement right

You need to remove the margin from #mosaicbutton, #kitchenbutton
and then add float : left; to #bathroombutton, #floorbutton, #mosaicbutton, #kitchenbutton,
That'll get you buttons sitting the way you want them, you may need to play with the margins after that.

Dear all, I need help with the colour profile of my photoshop CS6.
I've taken a photo with my Canon DSLR. When I opened the raw with ACDSee, the colour looks perfectly ok.
So I go ahead and open in photoshop. I did nothing to the photo. It still looks ok
Then I'm prompt the Embedded Profile Mismatch error. I go ahead and choose Discard the embedded profile option
And the colour started to get messed up.
And the output is a total diasater
Put the above photo side by side with the raw, the red has became crimson!!
So I tried the other option, Use the embedded profile
The whole picture turns yellowish in Photoshop's interface
And the output is just the same as the third option.
Could someone please guide me how to fix this? Thank you.

I'm prompt the Embedded Profile Mismatch error. I go ahead and choose Discard the embedded profile option
always use the embedded profile when opening tagged images in Photoshop - at that point Photoshop will convert the source colors over to your monitor space correctly
if your colors are wrong at that point either your monitor profile is off, or your source colors are not what you think they are - if other apps are displaying correctly you most likely have either a defective monitor profile or source profile issues

and complete five easy steps to profile enlightenment in Photoshop
with your settings, monitor profile and source profiles sorted out it should be pretty easy to pinpoint the problem...

Help with MS Word, (Yes I have asked MS)

I'm trying to solve a simple problem with Microsoft Word (2008 for Mac). I have tried on the Microsoft forums, they're useless.
My problem sounds simple I cannot get my font size to "stick".
I will change my font size to a 14. As soon as I press the return key word jumps back to font size 10. I then must reset the font size to 14 (very frustrating).
I have spent hours trying to find the setting to lock-in the font size I want.

If these problems occur only in a single custom template, not in the default blank document, that is a very important piece of information. Please confirm whether that is true, as it isolates the problem. Once you have confirmed that, read the rest of this post for one possible solution...
When you create a new paragraph by pressing <Enter>, Word sets the style for the new paragraph based on the Style for following paragraph setting in the style of the current paragraph. The paragraph style you are now using should set the style for the following paragraph to the same as the current style. So the font size and paragraph spacing should stay the same as you type successive paragraphs. Even if you override the style by explicitly changing the font size or paragraph spacing, new paragraphs will use that font size and paragraph spacing unless the style specifies a different style for following paragraphs.
The top of the Modify Style dialog in Word 2011 looks like this pic, I don't remember what it looked like in Word 2008 but is probably similar. For the style you are now using, the 1st and 4th settings must match or the changes you make to font size and paragraph spacing will not be retained when you create new paragraphs by pressing <Enter>.
1. Determine the paragraph style being used when you type text (look in the toolbar to see what style is selected).
2. Modify that style to see the dialog pictured above (right-click the style in the toolbar; modify).
3. Verify that the Style for following paragraph matches the current style Name.

Need help with threads?.. please check my approach!!

I am trying to write a program.. who monitors my external tool.. please check my way of doing it.. as whenever i write programs having thread.. i end up goosy.. :(
first let me tell.. what I want from program.. I have to start an external tool.. on separate thread.. (as it takes some time).. then it takes some arguments(3 arguments).. from file.. so i read the file.. and have to run tool.. continously.. until there are arguments left.. in file.. or.. user has stopped it by pressing STOP button..
I have to put a marker in file too.. so that.. if program started again.. file is read from marker postion.. !!
Hope I make clear.. what am trying to do!!
My approach is like..
1. Have two buttons.. START and STOP on Frame..
START--> pressed
2. check marker("$" sign.. placed in beginning of file during start).. on file..
     read File from marker.. got 3 arg.. pass it to tool.. and run it.. (on separate thread).. put marker.. (for next reading)
     Step 2.. continously..
3. STOP--> pressed
     until last thread.. stops.. keep running the tool.. and when last thread stops.. stop reading any more arguments..
Question is:
1. Should i read file again and again.. ?.. or read it once after "$" sign.. store data in array.. and once stopped pressed.. read file again.. and put marker ("$" sign) at last read line..
2. how should i know when my thread has stopped.. so I start tool again??.. am totally confused.. !!
please modify my approach.. if u find anything odd..

This master.java program will run continuously for days or weeks, each time through the loop starting another slave process which runs for five minutes to up to an hour, which means there may be ten to twenty of these slave processes running simultaneously.
I believe threads is the best way to do this, but I don't know where to locate these slave programs: either inside the master.java program or separate slave.java files? I will need help with either method.

Help with page numbering.

Hello. I've searched HIGH and LOW for answers on this. I've gone through the KB documents and the User's manual and NOTHING is helping with my challenge.
I'm writing a manuscript. I need PAGE 1 to start several pages into the document and automatically repeat in a header on each page. How do I accomplish that? I've tried with Inspector but the minute I click into the header it "grays-out" the inspector control for pagination.
I also have numerous SEPARATE Pages documents (chapters) that I want to recognize the numbering from the chapter before. How do I accomplish that?

You need to break the document into sections in the +Inspector > Layout (2nd tab) > Section+.
The First section would be your preface possibly counting in roman numerals.
The second section would start your count at page 1.
To edit the header if it is not selectable go +Menu > Format > Advanced > Make Master Objects Selectable+
Click into the header then go +Menu > Insert > Page Number+
To control the numbering go +Inspector > Layout (2nd tab) > Section > Start at+
If you can't insert into a Header it may be because it is has been locked or grouped
Both of these can be undone in +Menu > Arrange > Unlock or Ungroup+
You will have to set the starting number in separate documents manually. Remember right hand pages are always odd, if need be add a blank page at the end of a previous document.

PC to Mac convert: help with Pages

I recently moved my father from a PC to a Mac. He's liking it so far but stumped by one problem.
He was very fond of using Outlook and Word as his email editor. This alowed him to format to a much higher degree since Word essential writes the emails in HTML with all the implied bells and whistles.
I suggested we try Pages to the same effect. He likes Pages so far but we're stymied as to how to send the final document via email. He does NOT want to send it as an attachment.
Is it possible to send the final Page as the actual email (embedded)?

No, you can't do what you want with Pages. Best search/ask how you can do formatted email in the forum for that kind of question:

Help with Pages & Templetes

I'm making my site in Adobe Muse and upgraded my the Business Catalyst to webMarketing. I'm trying to make a page templete from muse to catalyst but I'm not getting the option under Site Manager.
Under Site Manager I only have >
Web Forms
System E-mails
I'm looking for the pages or templete options in there. Am I looking in the wrong place or have the worng package?

Yeah, I every upgraded one step more to see if that would fix it to the webCommerce package to see if that would fix it. Everything else is there, and i did find what I needed on the old layout, but its still not on the v3 layout.
I'm going to have to contact support in the morning, thanks for your help.

It is FF version independed.

for example. I looking for help with word "cookie". Help should search for 'cookie' and "cookies'.
another example with polish language.
I tryed to find help about word 'ciastko'. no one were found, i should write word 'ciasteczko', that list me usefull help topics.
'ciastko', 'ciasteczko', 'ciastka', 'ciasteczka' are about the same thing 'cookie', but are variants by plural/singular and diminutive. Difference is the same like between 'cookie' and 'cake', but all means the same 'cookie' in polish language.

Hello, i need add an authentication field in my GET request using HTTPS to authenticate users. I put the authentication field using the setRequestProperty method, but it doesn't appear when i print all properties using the getRequestProperties method. I wrote the following code:

I have moved this to the main Dreamweaver forum, as the other forum is intended to deal with the Getting Started video tutorial.
The best way to get help with layout problems is to upload the files to a website and post the URL in the forum. Someone can then look at the code, and identify the problem. Judging from your description, it sounds as though the Document window is narrow, which would result in the final menu tab dropping down to the next row. Try turning on Live view or previewing the page in a browser. Design view gives only an approximate idea of the final layout. Live view renders the page as it should look in a browser.
