Help with Prime Infrastructure Client Tracking

I'm running PI 1.2.1.012 and I'm having issues populating client information. Most of my switches are 2960 series. Specifically I get a lot of MAC Address "Unknown" and nothing in the IP address field. I probably get about 25% of the correct MAC address and 10% of the IP addresses. I also run CiscoWorks Prime LMS 4.3.2. and the user tracking information is about 98% correct pertaining to MAC address and IP address. My other network management tools also are very accurate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same Problem here. I've discovered all the access switches in the environment and they are "Managed" in Device Work Center. Previously we used CiscoWorks and that populated the Mac address, IP address, along with what switch the end host was connected to. That was very helpful for our Helpdesk in troubleshooting. Im now trying to setup the same thing in Prime. Looking at a individual switch the MAC would populate but nothing on IP Address.
Im at a loss. I've newly taken over the position of Network Analyst so maybe there is a licensing issue that we didnt get that im not aware of thats not bringing the ISE or LMS portion of Prime into play?

  • Ask the Expert: One Management with Prime Infrastructure 1.2

    With Tejas Shah
Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions from Cisco expert Tejas Shah on One Management with Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Combining the wireless functionality of Cisco Prime Network Control System (NCS) with the wired functionality of Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution (LMS),  Cisco Prime Infrastructure simplifies and automates many of the day-to-day tasks associated with maintaining and managing the end-to-end network infrastructure from a single pane of glass. The new converged solution delivers all of the existing wireless capabilities for RF management, user access visibility, reporting, and troubleshooting along with wired lifecycle functions such as discovery, inventory, configuration and image management, automated deployment, compliance reporting, integrated best practices, and reporting.

Raun, please see my responses inline:
Can you go over the licensing method with Prime Infrastructure 1.2 please?
Raun, you can check out the following link for ordering guide at
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps12239/products_data_sheets_list.html
I currently have NCS and do NOT currently have LMS.  I know I can move to Prime Infrastructure through Cisco Product Upgrade Tool.  However, what I am confused about is do I still have to buy LMS to have LMS functionality in Prime Infrastructure 1.2?
==> Not at all.  The converged product will give you basic management capability for routers and switches that LMS provided in this release.   Feature/Functionality will keep on growing with upcoming releases.
If not, do the licenses I transfer into Prime Infrastructure 1.2 from NCS also work for devices to work under LMS?
==> Licensing is different than NCS or LMS.  You don't have to transfer the license.  Each install of Prime Infrastructure will have a unique UID string on which the licenses are based.  A new license will be applied to the product.
Mean, can my currently 350 licenses be used for AP's as in NCS and routers in the LMS portion of Prime Infrastructure 1.2?
==> I would recommend getting a total count of your wired and wireless devices and match the right SKU based on that.
Hope this helps.. Let me know if you have any further questions,

  • Managing vty ACLs with Prime Infrastructure?

    I have a number of devices -- various models of Nexus, (2k - 7k), 6500s and some 1U stackables.
I'm trying to come up with a good way to leverage PI (2.1) to apply a vty ACL to the switches. There does not appear to be a template for this. The problem of course is not only the order of operation (remove ACL from vty if there is one so Prime doesn't lock itself out, only then do the rest of the stuff) but that the syntax seems to differ very aggravatingly -- some require "line vty 0 1509," some "line vty 0 1510," some platforms accept named ACLs for vty ACLs, some don't...
Any tips, tricks, or best practices on how to install and update vty ACLs on IOS and/or NX-OS devices with Prime Infrastructure?

I am also interested in this topic. We have vty ACLs in place but with different names. Would like to be able to find and update the ACL's and vty config. Using PI 2.1.

  • ISE integration with Prime Infrastructure,

    Hi Team,
I would like to know what are the advantages and Disadvantages of the ISE integration with Prime Infrastructre. Also  how the LAN, wifi, and identity management part (guest access etc) will work together.
    Cheers!!!
    Minakshi

Prime Infrastructure manages the wired and the wireless clients in the network. When Cisco ISE is used as a RADIUS server to authenticate clients, Prime Infrastructure collects additional information about these clients from Cisco ISE and provides all client relevant information to Prime Infrastructure to be visible in a single console.
When posture profiling is enforced in the network, Prime Infrastructure talks to Cisco ISE to get the posture data for the clients and displays it along with other client attributes. When Cisco ISE is used to profile the clients or an endpoint in the network, Prime Infrastructure collects the profiled data to determine what type of client it is, whether it is an iPhone, iPad, an Android device, or any other device.
Cisco ISE is assisting Prime Infrastructure to monitor and troubleshoot client information, and displays all the relevant information for a client in a single console.

  • FortiGate MIB Compatibility with Prime Infrastructure

I have a Cisco Prime Infrastructure deployment that I would like to monitor various third-party devices. I have successfully discovered my FortiGate 60D device, but it has no monitoring functionality.
I am trying to create a custom SNMP polling template to deploy to the device and I'm wondering is the FortiGate MIB is even supported by PI? If so, which SNMP MIB do you select when creating a new template?

The FortiGate SNMP page on the FortiGate Web GUI links two MIB downloads:
    FORTINET-FORTIGATE-MIB
    FORTINET-CORE-MIB
I have successfully uploaded the FORTINET-CORE-MIB file to the Prime Infrastructure MIB list and I am able to successfully apply that MIB to a template and the template to a dashlet, which outputs data. The issue is when I try to upload the FORTINET-FORTIGATE-MIB file, it produces an error message showing:

The only difference I can see is that I am using Update 2 vice Update 1 (the certified version)… I can try going back but V1 but would that make that much difference?
I see several others have done this without a problem so I home they can help… Ideas from anyone?
    Thanks.

    Hi Michael!
The problems I had with SSO were way different than your problems. What came to my mind is to check the network settings of the machine. What I usually do is to set the hostname and the domain in the /etc/sysctl.conf .I have a ES40u2 were I had no problems whatsoever.

  • Help with error in invoicing tracking table

I've figured out most of the formula to calculate the late fee based on the days past due.  However, I keep getting an error when the client actually pays on time.  I've tried dozens of different ideas, but either get a syntax error or there is one argument instead of 2 or 3.  So I cleared out all my tries and went back to square one.  Help please.

    Hi Taryn,
One of the issues you're running into here is that DATEDIF requires the first argument to be equal to or later than the second. If the client pays early, this isn't the casee, and DATEDIF will throw an error.
Here's a revised formula to try. Column references match the locations of the data in your example; the formula goes in column G:
    =IF(LEN(J)>0,IF(J<=D,0,DATEDIF(D,J,"D")),IF(TODAY()<D,0,DATEDIF(D,TODAY(),"D")))
This formula ignores the checkmark and depends instead on a entry (necessary for the calculations) being made in column J (Date paid). If an entry has been made, then this part of the formula is acted on:
    IF(J<=D,0,DATEDIF(D,J,"D"))
and enters a zero if the payment is early or on time, and calculated the number of days late if the payment is after the due date.
If no entry has been made in J, this part is acted on:
    IF(TODAY()<D,0,DATEDIF(D,TODAY(),"D"))
which performs the same calculation, using TODAY() instead of the payment date.

  • Help with 9iAS Infrastructure post-instalation

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong with this? Having installed 9iAS infrastructure component (V9.0.2.0.1) on a Windows 2000 machine, everything seems to work fine. I can log in using the IAS_ADMIN password I have set up, start up all the services and run all the demos. However, once I reboot, I can no longer log in as IAS_ADMIN. It refuses to accept the password I have set up. Is there any post-installation stuff I have missed?

  • Need help with spreadsheet to keep track of personal spending.

I am trying to make a spreadsheet where I can enter what I spend at the end of each day, so I can keep track of where my money goes. I probably would have a separate spreadsheet for each month. I have a series of categories (groceries, booze, gas, movies, restaurants, etc.) I would like to be able to add a little description to each number to be even more specific than just what the category is (restaruant name, utlity name, etc). That way I can keep my categories a little less specific and have less of them. I notice that when I just add text after the number in a cell, that cell's numeric value is no longer calculated in the "TOTALS" for each column.
Is there a way to attach a text description to each numeric entry and still have the numeric value be calculated in formulas? If not, is there a way to attach a text description to each cell that is not in the cell itself? Like you click on a cell and a separate description window pops up or something? Or I am open to other suggestions if someone has made a similar spreadsheet for the purpose of tracking person spending.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Keith

    Hi Keith,
You could make a table with a simpler appearance by modeling it on the checking register. Other than editing the pop-up menus to contain your categories, you'd need only two or three simple changes.
The Transactions table in this template has six columns, A through F. All formulas in this table are in column F, and calculate the running balance shown for each row.
But you want only a total for each category, not a running balance. You don't need this column, or its formulas.
Click on any cell to show the column reference tabs.
Click on the tab for column F to select that column.
Go to the Table menu and choose Delete Column.
Column A of this table contains information regarding the means of payment for each transaction. If you want to record this, keep the column, if not, delete it, as was done with Column F. To delete this column, you'll first have to undo the merge of cells A1 and B1, using the Table Inspector, or delete Row 1 in the same manner as column F was deleted. (Note that cell row references below assume Row 1 has NOT been deleted.)
Column C contains a set of pop-up menus containing the categories used for transactions. Except for "Deposit" (which you're not intending to include) and "Credit Card" (which is more a payment method than an expense category), these may be the general categories you are looking for. If not, you'll need to edit them, using the Cell Inspector. Click on cell C3, open the Inspector, and choose the Cell button ( 42 ) to open the editor.
I would edit Deposit, replacing it with a single space (as close to 'blank' as you can get using the Inspector) to use as the default setting for rows with no entries as yet. To do the edit, double click on "Deposit" in the list in the Inspector to select the whole word. Press the space bar once to replace the word with a single space.
Edit the other categories to fit your needs, using the same method.
To add a new category to the end of the list, click the + button. To completely remove a category, click on that category, then click the - button.
When you have the category menu list set to include all your categories, set the menu in C3 to the 'blank' item, then put the mouse pointer on the Fill handle (the small circle at the bottom right corner of the Selection rectangle marking the selected cell (C3). When the pointer changes to a black + sign, press the mouse button and drag down to the bottom of column C. (as you do this, you will notice the amounts in the Account Categories table change and the pie chart adjust to those changes. Here's the template after deleting columns F and A of the Transactions table, deleting the "Beginning Balance label from what's now D1, and editing the pop-up menu cells to replace Deposit with a space, Credit Card with XXX, and add a new category, Travel.
Note that I have moved the category column to the left of the description column. Not a necessary move, but one that makes sense to me. To make the move:
Select any cell to show the column and row reference tabs.
Click the reference tab for column C (Categories) to select the column.
Click again and drag the column down and left. When a thick blue line appears between columns A and B, release the mouse button to drop the column into its new location. Numbers will adjust the formulas in Account categories to match the new position of the Category column.
I've also replaced Credit Card in the Account Categories table with XXX, but have not yet added the new Travel category.
To add that category to both the table and the pie chart, select the Food, Gas, or XXX cell, then press option-down arrow to add a new row below that cell. Type travel in the new column A cell, making sure that you spell it exactly as is spelled in the pop-up menus. When you confirm that entry, the total for travel will be immediately calculated in the column B cell, and its wedge will appear on the pie chart, and in the legend for that chart:
At this point you might want to change the names of the two tables and the chart. This is done by double clicking the name of each item in the Sheets list, and typing in the new name. The names will automatically update above the tables and chart in the document.
Once your table and chart are working, you're ready to delete the dummy data from the Date, Description and Amount columns, and to set the Category pop-ups to the 'blank' entry. When you've done that, Save your file as a Template.
Open a new document from the template each month to record that month's expenses. If you need more rows for transactions, click on any cell to show the row control handle at the bottom left of the table. Drag the handle downward to add new rows to the table. The pop-up cells in the Category column will automatically fill into the new rows, and the formulas in the Account categories table will adjust to include the new rows.

  • Help with Oracle 10g Client Connectivity from Linux to IBM SAN storage

    Hello Oracle Experts,
This is my first post. My client is having oracle 10g database up and running in IBM SAN storage.
We have some NMS tools running in Red Hat Linux version 5. So, these tools require connectivity to Oracle database which is residing in SAN storage connected with the Fibre cables.
How do I establish the connectivity from Linux to SAN storage. If would be glad if you can explain me the steps and also if there is any pre-installation/post-installation, patches and procedures involved.
If it is IP based network we normally give the IP address of the host running the database server. I have no idea about SAN storage connected with Fibre cable.
Please guide me to establish the connectivity from linux 5 to SAN.
    Thanks.

Make sure you have network connectivity from linux machine to database server. You need to connect to server where db instance is running and you need not to bother about SAN storage.
make tns entry into client $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora file.
Use sqlplus to connect to database using client.

  • Help with audio and sound tracks

I have a .mov file with audio. I added a sound file I downloaded and it plays fine with QT and I hear both tracks, the recorded audio and music in the background. But when I post to Youtube the added sound doesn't play. How can I combine both tracks into one? I've tried exporting but can't seem to get the added track to play.
Using QT Pro 7.6.4 and Leopard.

    http://www.discoverynet.com/~ajsnead/alpcond/alpha_18/midi/rocky.mid
    It's a MIDI file:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MusicalInstrument_DigitalInterface
In order to use it at YouTube you would required to convert it prior to adding it in your source file to a real "audio" format.
This is why it didn't play after the export and wasn't converted by YouTube.
