Help with publishing Dreamweaver site

Hello guys, I give up looking for help everywhere else. Sorry for the dumb question but I am a noob.
I have built a Wordpress website with Dreamweaver CS5, everything works fine in my localhost. Also I have already set up my remote server and tested connection and everything and I know how to upload files to my hosting server, etc. The problem is that I have no clue how to also upload the MySql database that was built in my localhost and this makes some files from the website not get transferred to the remote sever. Can someone point me to some tutorials? That would be appreciated, Thanks.

Which tool are you using to administrate your local MySQL database,  phpMyAdmin by chance ?
The problem is that I have no clue how to also upload the MySql database that was built in my localhost
You need to use your local database administration tool for exporting the tables including the data to, say, an SQL text file. Next use use a browser to navigate to the remote server´s database administration tool (most likely phpMyAdmin) and use the Import function, which lets you upload the previously generated SQL file, what in turn will generate the tables and data on the remote server.
Most likely you will first need to create a database prior to importing the tables -- and if so, its name must be identical to your local database.
Can someone point me to some tutorials?
There are lots of tutorials around, and many of them are based on using phpMyAdmin. Try with googling "mysql database export" or "mysql database import".

  • Help with attaching Dreamweaver site to a domain purchased through Google (GoDaddy)

    Hi Yesterday I set up Google Apps and have bought a domain through them (which they get from GoDaddy) I want to have a more professional looking website than they offer with Google Sites so was going to design one in Adobe DreamWeaver. The only problem is I don't know how to attach the two together. I use design mode as I can't really code (unless following a tutorial) so if anyone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.  Thanks K

    1) I believe what you are asking is how to point your domain name to your site.  If this is the case then the first thing you need to do is find a host with whom you can agree to sign a contract for 12 months and upload your files.  If you want a simple host with all the features you are likely to want then I would strongly recommend these people:
    <sky.uk.net>
    2) Then you need to enter the cname of your host on GoDaddy's CPanel.  The full instructions are here:
    <To Add a CNAME Record>
    This should get you started but you may also want to enter your Mx records for your emails sent to your domain name like: [email protected] or whatever.
    3) the full instructions about all this is here:
    <Managing DNS for Your Domain Names>
    4) If, however, you were asking for free templates and extensions for your DW then WebAssists has quite a few to get you started.  Gramps has given you the links so it is a good idea to browse their site and register with them free of charge to download the free extensions from them.  There are some classified as premium but you don't want them now until you are experienced enough to design some sophisticated websites.

    No.
    Service Pack 3 just updates your OS. All of your files, folders and programs will still be there.
    You will start running into more problems like this the longer you stick with XP though. That particular OS is over 11 years old, service pack 3 hs been out for over 4 years.
    It may be time for a system upgrade. I personally went from XP to Windows 7 and I haven't looked back one bit.

  • Help with Mac Dreamweaver PHP

    Well, I finally have PHP embedded within HTML working however the directory structure is totally confusing me.  I place files is /MAMP/htdocs and yet nothing works unless I add /MAMP/htdocs/htdocs and place the index and other php files ALSO in there.  I must open the ones in /MAP/htdocs and yet when I run them using my test server the files in /MAMP/htdocs/htdocs are the ones that are actually used.
    My configuration in SITES is
    Test Server
    local/network
    /Applciations/MAMP/
    http://localhost:8888/
    I would appreciate help understanding how to properly configure DreamWeaver SITE so that I can place all files in the MAMP/htdocs directory and eliminate the reducntant one.
    Thanks,
    Rick

    If you're using MAMP, your DW local site folder should be something like this:
    /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/sitename
    Because htdocs is the default folder MAMP routes to as localhost. Whatever site you have within htdocs folder will be suffixed with localhost in your browser for testing.
    For example, your site files (working files) can be put in a folder and that folder should be placed within 'htdocs' folder in MAMP Application folder.
    Say, you have a folder called 'test' containing index.php and this folder is placed within htdocs, your DW local site folder will be:
    /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/test
    To check this in browser, you'll simply enter
    http://localhost:8888/test
    This will run the index.php file within test folder by default.
    Your testing server can be the same as 'localhost:8888/test' for the site.
    If you want your Remote FTP also configured, enter your webhost's details and get that configured.

  • Help with osCommerce  + Dreamweaver

    I know what you are thinking, why use DW with osCommerce.
    Well the problem i'm having is
    I need to click on a category e.g. Leaflets and then have a
    grid/table come up with all the quantities coming down on the left
    hand column and the Sizes (A4, A5, A6) across the top. The user
    would have to click the price to add to cart.
    Like below:
    A6 A5 A4
    250 £70 £120 £150
    500 £69 £117
    1000
    I ideally need a price grid to be called up from the database
    and the price to click through to the product page.
    Is there anything you can do? I have been stuck on this for 4
    weeks :'(

    osCommerce isn't easy in any shape or form to work with in
    Dreamweaver,
    and its code is bloody hard work too, I attempted once to
    help a friend
    customize his home page, and I was disgusted by the lack of
    good
    documentation. If you are not a very competent coder, find
    someone who
    knows how to customize osCommerce, and pay them.

  • PHP Help with inherited database site

    Hope someone can help with this, although I might be a bit vague. (But will be happy to post any code that might help.)
    Basically I do a few sites for a company, and everything is coming together nicely moving everything to a new reseller hosting account where everything can site. I'm basically doing some redesign and new database work for them.
    But there's one site I'm basically just trying to move over, that already has a database. I've copied the site onto the new hosting, copied the database across and created a new connection file.
    I must admit the code is all a bit more PHPO heavy than what I'm used to working with. so have run into a problem trying to figure out what data is not displaying due to queries failing. As far as I can tell the connection is working, and the queries have not changed.
    Anyway - the main page is here, where you should be able to click on the furniture images to go to the product page :
    http://www.miradatravelmedia.com/lusty/public_html/index.php
    But when you click through the product page query is failing :
    http://www.miradatravelmedia.com/lusty/public_html/products.php?category=1
    The products page is mostly PHP and looks like this :
    [PHP]<?php
    if (!@empty($_REQUEST["img"])) {
      require_once("../includes/hft_image.php");
      $img = new hft_image($_REQUEST["img"]);
      $img->resize(200,180,"-");
      $img->output_resized("");
      exit;
    $page = "products";
    include("../includes/header.php");
    include("../includes/db_open.php");
    $sql = "SELECT `id`, `name` FROM `categories` WHERE `id` = '" . $_REQUEST["category"] . "'";
    $result = mysql_query($sql) or die("Query failed : $sql at line " . __line__);
    $category = mysql_fetch_assoc($result);
    ?>
    <div id="trail"><a href="shop.php">Shop</a> &gt; Lloyd Loom <?php echo $category["name"]?></div>
      <div class="clear" id="divider1"><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="<?php echo keyword()?>" /></div>
    <h1>Lloyd Loom <?php echo $category["name"]?></h1>
    <?php
    $sql =
      "SELECT * " .
      "FROM `products` " .
      "WHERE `category` = '" . $_REQUEST["category"] . "' " .
      "ORDER BY `order`";
    $result = mysql_query($sql) or die("Query failed : $sql at line " . __line__);
    if (mysql_num_rows($result) == 0) {
    ?>
    <p>Coming soon ...</p>
    <?php
    } else {
      $n = 0;
      while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) {
        $n++;
    ?>
    <a href="product.php?id=<?php echo $row["id"]?>" class="product"<?php if ($n == mysql_num_rows($result)) echo " id=\"last\""?>>
    <?php
        if ($file = glob("images/products/" . $row["id"] . "_*.*")) {
    ?>
    <img src="img.php?img=<?php echo $file[0]?>&width=200&height=180" alt="<?php echo $row["code"]?>" />
    <?php
        } else {
    ?>
    <div id="no_image">No image found</div>
    <?php
    ?>
    <?php echo $row["code"]?>
    </a>
    <?php
        if (is_int($n / 4)) {
    ?>
    <div class="clear"><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="<?php echo keyword()?>" /></div>
    <?php
    ?>
      <div class="clear" id="divider2"><img src="images/spacer.gif" alt="<?php echo keyword()?>" /></div>
    <?php
    include("../includes/footer.php");
    ?>[/PHP]
    If anyone could shed any light on what's going wrong still, that would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ''categories' WHERE 'id' = '1'' at line 1
    So it does look a bit odd with the quotes.
    Column names in a SQL query must not be in quotes. The MySQL error message tells you that the SQL syntax error is "near" the section it refers to. In other words, the error is just before that part of the query. Normally, you need to display the whole query to spot the error, but it's obvious in this particular case, because there's a quotation mark after categories, indicating that you've put the column name in quotes. Anyway, you've solved that problem by using the version I suggested.
    I still haven't managed to establish where this vat.php file is - is there any explanation for it not being visible on the original hosting server where the site is working? And could it have anything to do with the query not working?
    No, it has nothing to do with the query not working, and the reason you can't see it on the live site is because there's no error. The error message on your test site tells you exactly where to look for the problem. The file vat.php is included by header.php on line 19. Either vat.php isn't on your server, or the code on line 19 of header.php is pointing to the wrong location.

  • Need help with publishing -- highlight boxes and recordings

    I'm having a problem with publishing a presentation.  I've recorded audio for PP slides and added highlight boxes.  I've tested these in Edit mode - the recordings work fine and the highlight boxes appear correctly as per their settings.  When I go to publish, some of the recordings and highlight boxes are not working on some of the slides (but work fine on other slides).   Obviously I've missed some setting on these but I cannot figure out what and where.  Could anyone please help??

    Just kidding. Now, the files seem to be uploaded and in the right folder; however, now the page just isn't loading. See what I mean, everything going wrong?!

  • Help with publishing without .mac

    Here is my problem, I'm taking over a site for our local snowmobile club and I was asked to overhaul and start maintaining the site by the end of this month. Dec 21 is the day I'm suppose to publish the site and the club I'm working for wants to keep their website on local hosting company.
    I know it's easy to publish on .mac but I have to keep with their rules so how do I publish on a none dot mac account?

  • Help with a "buggy" site

    Hey guys,
    I finally got my domain with my flash site up on it. It's a fairly simple site, but I have been having a lot of times (especially with optimizing and making it fast) Im still having speed issues, even though I have linked every image, optimized every image, etc. So I guess thats my first questions: any secrets I may not have heard of for optimizing?
    Second, when you open my site you will see some other bugs. My homepage is what I call a clicktable, and as soon as you click a square, a dotted line surrounds the entire "workspace" like it is outlinging the exact size of my catalyst document. This appeared out of the blue..I have no idea why (it was up on another server with no problems). Another problem is when you click to different pages things kind of spaz out (you will see what I mean)...another problem that never used to be there. If anyone has any tips on any of this I would be very grateful! Also, any critique in general. Thanks!

  • Publish dreamweaver site with trial version

    I just recenly got a new computer and I downloaded the trial version of dreamweaver.  I set up the "Site" under "Manage Sites" .  But under the "Server" tab, this is where I get lost.  I cant remember how to fill this part out.  What do you put for: Server Name, FTP address, and Root Folder?  And since this is a trial version, why do I need to put a user name and password?

    Could be - let's test it.
    Create a new file called "foo.html". In DW's design view just enter the word "foo" and press Return/Enter. Now select that file in Files panel, and PUT it to the remote site. Finally browse to your site and the file you just uploaded:
    http://www.example.com/foo.html
    Do you see a blank page with "foo" at the top? If so then the public_html folder you see in your image is bogus and resulted from your faulty site definition. You can either delete it altogether, or move its contents up a level and then delete it. Let us know how you get on with this.

  • Help With Various Dreamweaver Issues

    Dear Friends,
    This is my first post and I appreciate any help any of you
    can give me. My knowledge of web design is minimal, but I do have a
    basic understanding. The fundamentals of HTML and web design as a
    whole are pretty clear. My weakness, however, shows in the fine
    detailed issues that come up throughout the course of designing a
    website, and much of it may have to do with a lack of knowledge
    with the software I'm using. I love Dreamweaver CS3. It's an
    excellent program. I'm totally hooked!
    I'm in the process of building a website for a friend who
    owns a retail gift store. The site has a total of 41 pages. The URL
    is
    http://www.southerncharmgifts.net
    It has taken me over a month to get this site to the place
    where it is now. I've learned a TON about web design, CSS, and the
    Dreamweaver program itself. I've been able to work through many of
    the issues I've had, but I'm stuck on a few things:
    1.
    Browser Issues.
    I've found it hard to sync the content between browsers:
    namely IE and Firefox.
    For example:
    In IE the sub-menus wrap (as I want them to), but in Firefox
    they do not. But in Firefox the sub-menu
    box borders are visible (vertical menus), even though the
    text doesn't wrap, but it's obviously in the dimensions that are
    seen in IE.
    In Firefox, the sub-menus are too far from the parent. It
    looks bad. But they are perfect in IE.
    The background image is centered in IE between the menus and
    adverts, but not in Firefox. How do I get the background image to
    remain between the menus and adverts? (Note: There is no background
    on the home page. Also, wider screens seem to move the background
    in IE, too.)
    In the horizontal menu "Category" the sub-menu item "Babies"
    cannot be selected in Firefox. In IE it works.
    There are gaps between items in the horizontal sub-menu. It
    appears to be related to items not wrapping, but it doesn't seem
    that enlarging the sub-menu box causes the item to not wrap. For
    example, under "Category" "Candles & Fragrances" is wrapped and
    it seems to be the reason why there is a large gap between "Babies"
    and "Eyewear." If I can find a way to get Candles & Fragrances
    to NOT wrap it might remove the gap.
    2. CSS Issue.
    I can't find a way to have the sub-menu hover
    underline instead of highlight the items. I want it to
    underline.
    3. "False" Issue.
    In the
    vertical sub-menu "by CATEGORY" the word "false" shows up
    just below the word "Babies." (It's hard to see, but it's there.)
    THANKS!!

    Your limited research has failed to uncover the essence of
    proper technique
    in creating web pages. Layers are NOT a general layout tool
    and will cause
    you much more grief than you ever imagined. Here's one big
    reason -

    They are, but only for specialty applications.

    It is my personal opinion based on seeing hundreds (if not
    thousands) of new
    users throw themselves on their swords as a result of having
    committed to
    pages built with layers, on this very forum.

    Starting over from scratch need not involve a redesign of the
    graphics. But
    on a site built from layers, it would certainly involve a
    rethinking of the
    layout method. Read this -

    That's not something you can do using templates or by
    dropping in a free
    script; it's pretty complicated. You need to know how to
    design a database
    and write server-side code. Dreamweaver will help you write
    the code, but
    you still need to plan and design the whole application. I'd
    recommend
    starting with a book. It sounds like PHP is going to be your
    best bet - does
    your host server support it? If so, do a search on Amazon.com
    for books on

  • Help with publishing calendars

    Hi,
    We are attempting to set up calendaring for our staff members. We are using an Xserve running OS 10.5.2, authenticating to an Open Directory Master running 10.5.2. Mail, both from a client and webmail work fine. A user can log into the group Wiki and web calendaring work just fine.
    iCal 3.02 on a 10.5.2 client machine trying to publish a calendar to the server generates the following error:
    Access to http://[email protected]/Home.ics is not permitted.
    wwitch is the short name of a trial user.
    We've made the following settings in Server Admin (v10.5):
    -Click the server's name and under the Access tab, "For all services" is checked on the left and "Allow all users and groups" is checked on the right.
    -iCal service, Data Store is set to a location on a 2nd disk drive on the Xserve called calendars. This folder has the same permissions set as the default location.
    -iCal authentication is set to "Any Method" and is using port 8008. SSL is not enabled.
    In Workgroup Manager, each user has the following settings under the Advanced Tab, Enable calendaring is checked and the server is set to mail1.egsd.org.
    There is one group for these users. That group under the Basic tab has Mailing list, wiki and blog, Web Calendar, and Mailing list web archive all checked with the default web site of mail1.egsd.org selected.
    Any ideas to enable the users to publish a calendar from iCal would be appreciated.

    Hawg_rider,
    Two quick points:
    1) That name and path looks all wrong to me. I have only set-up calendars on a provisional/test basis but the paths look more like this:
    http://serverfg.private:8008/principals/users/ldusseault
    2) There is a whole group dedicated to iCal Server issues here: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1234 and you're much more likely to find someone with the specific knowledge you want there.
    Hope that helps,
    =Tod

  • Help with publishing/email forwarding

    Hi, I am very new to the web-building game. Here's my situation in a nutshell:
    -Bought a domain (nightdrivemusic.com)
    -Forwarded my emails through that domain to be received and sent through my gmail account.
    So far so good, everything working fine....
    -Created a very basic site w Muse.
    -Published site, changed nameservers and connected businesscatalyst site with my domain address.
    Domain connected successfully! And could be seen by visiting that domain address.
    -However, now emails sent to the nightdrivemusic.com address are rejected and sent back instead of being forwarded to gmail, they are never received by my gmail account.
    I've been reading and trying to solve this problem myself, but I cannot figure this one out. There are just too many variables that I do not understand.
    Please let me know if there is any additional info you need to help me resolve this issue, or point me in the direction where I can solve it myself. Thank you!

    I see that right now your domain is managed by ns03.domaincontrol.com. and ns04.domaincontrol.com., which are reporting these MXs:
    10   aspmx.l.google.com       173.194.70.26 (no glue)
    20   alt1.aspmx.l.google.com       173.194.71.26 (no glue)
    30   alt2.aspmx.l.google.com       74.125.141.26 (no glue)
    40   aspmx2.googlemail.com       173.194.71.26 (no glue)
    50   aspmx3.googlemail.com       74.125.141.27 (no glue)
    Check it here (Screen shot: http://project02.businesscatalyst.com/Jing/2013-02-05_1441.png)
    If you want to keep using the Gmail's email service then to have your site up and running follow either one of these:
    1. Point an A record from the registrar's control panel(where you have purchased the domain from) to this IP, 192.150.2.140, after which you will have to delete the domain from the BC's admin panel and re-add it using the External Service option, (Screen shot: http://project02.businesscatalyst.com/Jing/2013-02-05_1446.png)
    2. Redelegate the domain to the BC's NS following the instructions here, http://www.adobekb.com/launching_pt02.html#redelegatingyourdomain, this may take upto 48 hours to propagate, after which you will have to delete the Mx records that you already have on the BC's admin panel (Screen shot: http://project02.businesscatalyst.com/Jing/2013-02-05_1450.png) and add the ones for gmail (Small Video: http://project02.businesscatalyst.com/Jing/2013-02-05_1451.swf)
    Why it takes 48 hours to propagate?
    Let me know if you need any other clarification.
