Help with sending string using setRequestProperty to servlet

I have a string that is encrpyted so it uses some wierd characters. An
example of the integer representation of the characters for a string that is
not working is:
26,162,91,52,153,136,227,53,190,0
When I recieve it on the servlet end and go to use it the integer
representation of the characters is all messed up therefore I can't decrypt
it properly. The servlet recieved:
26,162,91,52, 63 , 63 ,227,53,190,0
Where did the 63's come form??????? That is a "?" character and was not
part of the original string. I think it has something to do with when the
characters are converted to bytes or something but I can't seem to figure
out a way to fix it so that I get the original characters...
Please, any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Hmmm....my last post doesn't appear to make a whole lot of sense. I've got to start getting to bed earlier.
I guess I was a little excited when I realized what URLEncoder and URLDecoder were doing (by looking at the source, of course) which involves a lot of char conversion on the individual portions of your String. These classes are for US-ASCII text and really don't handle non-printable characters very well.
The passing of the characters across the connection remains a problem, and (without looking at source code) I believe the same problem is at the root; there is a basic encoding of your String into a format that doesn't support characters that aren't in the code page, and the question marks are substituted.
I haven't tried, but can suggest, using the encode/decode methods in the javax.mail.internet.MimeUtility class. This class comes with the J2EE download, but I'm afraid it may have some of the same shortcomings when it comes to characters it doesn't like (its methods appear to be mostly for mail HEADERS.)
You basically need either a UUEncode or Base64 encoder/decoder to translate your String into plaintext before it gets sent to the Servlet. The Java Commerce API (Java Wallet) contains a Base64Encoder/Base64Decoder but it is not licensed for reuse.
There might be other options (I don't know the full scope of your setup), but if all else fails, I can post a UUEncode class that will convert your encrypted string into plaintext for transmission.

  • Help with implementing security using Applets & Servlets

    Currently I have an applet that hits a database. This applet also pops open new pages by calling a servlet [showDocument(servletURL, _blank)].
    Database is going to have list of user names and passwords. I want to implement so that when the user hits the applet, they have to log on into the applet. The applet will hit database and verify name/pass. Different users will have different database views.
    Servlet hits this same database, and I want it to use the same name/pass combination when creating html.
    So, the question is: How do I pass this name/pass along to the servlet? I do not want to have this: showDocument(http://servlet/myServlet?name=john&pass=doe, _blank) as this will show in the history and another can come along after and see his name/pass.
    I also do not want a user to just be able to hit the servlet by typing in the URL without going through the applet.
    All help is appreciated! Thanks!

    You can use the following to pass a String directly to a servlets POST method
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class HttpMessage
         URL servlet = null;
         public HttpMessage(URL u)
              servlet = u;
         public InputStream sendPostMessage(String s) throws IOException
              // send query string to the servlet and return the input stream
              // containing the results to the applet
              String queryString = s;
              URLConnection con = servlet.openConnection();
              con.setDoInput(true);
              con.setDoOutput(true);
              con.setUseCaches(false);
              con.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
              // Write the arguments as post data
              DataOutputStream out = new DataOutputStream(con.getOutputStream());
              out.writeBytes(queryString);
              out.flush();
              out.close();
              // returns the INPUT STREAM to the calling method in the Applet
              return con.getInputStream();
    } // end class sendPostMessage

    Accordingly to your stackTrace, I think that you miss some utility jar from Geronimo app. server.
    As you are using Application server that is J2EE compliant, so there is an own JavaMail implementation embeded and used by the Server. To fix this problem you have to find and add to your calsspath a jar-file that contains Base64EncoderStream.class

  • Need some help with Slow Downs in Java3D and Servlets

    Hi,
    I realize that there is a separate forum for Java 3D, but I posted there, and did not get any response. This is kinda the crux of my program, so I would like to invite anybody on this forum with knowledge of Java 3D and servlets to give it a stab. Between this post and that one, there are TWENTY duke dollars up for grabs.
    Thanks.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=603198

    Let me have an educated guess.
    You calculated the time elapsed before sending in a server request - and at that point you have you updated timeLastStateChange yet, which means by the time of the next calculation of time elapsed this apparent delay is not counted in, hence the slow down in animation rate.
    Hope this helps~

  • Help with sending email from RoadRunner account on Mac, iPhone, iPad

    Recently, I have had strange issues where suddenly I realize that I cannot send email using Mac Mail (Mac OS X 10.8.1).  Its a very frustration condition where when everything was once fine, suddenly you stop being able to send email without what appears to be 'reason'.
    Today I learned the reason, and I assume others might run into this as well, so I am posting the issue and solution:
    Per Time Warner/RoadRunner support:  "When on your home network, the SMTP server does not require authentication.  When away from your home network, the SMTP server REQUIRES authentication"
    That is what I believe to be a mistake on RoadRunner's part.  Hundred of thousands of users will not understand that they need to change this setting anytime they go for a coffee at Starbucks.
    So to help, here is what I have come up with:
    From Mail -> Preferences, you need to edit your SMTP server list.  Click the drop-down list next to 'Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and select 'edit SMTP Server List.  Create two server connections and name one something that reminds you that it is the home network, and the other a roaming network.  Set the home network server config to Authentication -> None.  Set the roaming network server config to Authentication -> Password and fill in the username/password credentials.
    Having both these servers available for you to select from will reduce the impact of this inconvenient requirement from RoadRunner.
    .....Comcast.....please make service available in my area.....

    Bradley,
    You did it. I used your suggestion and solved what I hope to be the last of a very persistent problem.
    I made both a home and away SMTP server setting on my iMail. I tested both and are working well.
    Of all my research, your suggestion was the only fix to this problem. Now, I hope to be able to send email wherever I am instead of waiting until I am at a home network or worse, resorting to using my phone.
    Thanks again!

  • Can someone help me send mail using SMTP server?

    I am having the most frustrating problem with SMTP outgoing email account.  I use GoDaddy's Webmail (smtp.secureserver.net) and I receive all my emails through Apple Mail but I cannot send any.  I haven't been able to for about two weeks now, aside from 3 or 4 fleeting windows of time when I could.  Almost all of the time I try to send my emails, an error message says my outgoing account is offline.  I've been on the phone with GoDaddy's tech support three times this week and did everything we could think of, which include these steps:
    -Force Quit Apple Mail --> Restart Computer
    -Change Default Ports to a specific one and uncheck "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)"
    -Check "Use only this server"
    -Delete account completely from Apple Mail and re-load (which I had to go into Time Machine to recover messages, and lots a bunch in the process ugh!)
    Nothing works!  I depend on this email for my business, and I rely heavily on Apple Mail for this account.  All of my other email accounts that I pull through Mail work fine, but of course they are not SMTP outgoing.  Please help...I feel like I've tried everything and nothing works permanently.

    At this point there are 2 possible causes to your problem:
    Apple Mail
    Connectivity between you and the SMTP server
    I can't help with (1) as I use Thunderbird as my mail client (the biggest advantage being I can take my mail files and move between different versions of Mac OS X). If you suspect that your problem is due to Apple Mail, then using another email client to send a test message will prove the point. If it works, then the problem lies with Apple Mail and somebody else will have to chip in. If it still fails, then there may be connectivity issue between you and the mail server.
    If you google "telnet smtp test" (without the quotes), you will find many articles showing you how to test an SMTP connection using telnet. Don't be put off by the fact that many of the articles assume you are running Windows. The only Mac bit you need to know is that telnet is a command line utility accessed via Terminal. The rest is generic.
    Telnet will allow you to interact with the mail server a line at a time and show you exactly what and where the problem is. If you get an unexpected response from the server, go back to GoDaddy and show them the output. If you don't get any response at all (i.e. "telnet smtpout.secureserver.net 25" just hangs), then take it up with your ISP as you are simply not getting through to the server.
    Good luck.

  • Help with 'Send to Many" on 5210 please

    I am getting closer to the answer I need about sending a text message to as many people as possible from as inexpensive a phone as possible. Thanks to Jalisinfo for your help with my previous post. I have pasted below the response I have been sent from the Nokia care team to my question. Can anyone help with the part they were unable to answer about how many recipients I would be able to send to using this phone? I need to be able to send to about 70 contacts. All the recipients would be the only people in the contacts list.
    "Pertaining to our previous email, the Nokia 5210 does not support the SMS distribution list feature. On this device, you can send SMS to more than one contacts. This feature is known as "Send to many".
    We are unable to advise on the number of contacts you can send the SMS at one time."
    Thanks to you all for your help.

    PLEASE HELP.I've been working on this for months and about to die from frustration!

    I haven't worked with this vendor product, but here are some ideas you might find useful:
    It appears is a configuration problem when using the vendor software (but they already told you that, didn't they!!!).
    I say the above because these lines in your printout are from vendor supplied objects (that you didn't create):
    com.qsipayments.utility.AssertionError: InvalidConfigException can only be thrown on reload
    com.qsipayments.utility.Assert.shouldNotReachHere(Assert.java:246)
    PaymentClient.util.PCConfigurationService.getConfiguration(PCConfigurationService.java:72)
    I suggest creating a brand new project with the simplist use of the above vendor project and get it to work.
    You can use the vendor's (on line) documentation to do this. Deploy it in production to ensure there are no deployment issues. Work closely with one of
    your fellow employees (more than one pair of eyes can pick up stuff that you miss). Next, look at what features of the vendor software the originial project uses and what features the sample project uses. Try to implement a subset of functionality of the orginial project into the sample project and get that to work. Implement the next feature, test, etc. Do small experiments at a time so you can easily isolate what doesnt work.
    If none of the above works for you, try contacting the manufacturer or thier support web site. If none of the above works, look into using a compeditors product.

  • Help with Photo Gallery using XML file

    I am creating a photo gallery using Spry.  I used the Photo Gallery Demo (Photo Gallery Version 2) on the labs.adobe.com website.  I was successful in creating my site, and having the layout I want.  However I would like to display a caption with each photo that is in the large view.
    As this example uses XML, I updated my file to look like this:
    <photos id="images">
                <photo path="aff2010_01.jpg" width="263" height="350" thumbpath="aff2010_01.jpg" thumbwidth="56"

                   thumbheight="56" pcaption="CaptionHere03"></photo>
    </photos>
    The images when read into the main file (index.asp) show the images in the thumbnail area and display the correct image in the picture pain.  Since I added the pcaption field to the XML file, how do I get it to display?  The code in my index.html file looks like this:

  • Help with Switch statements using Enums?

    Hello, i need help with writing switch statements involving enums. Researched a lot but still cant find desired answer so going to ask here. Ok i'll cut story short.
    Im writing a calculator program. The main problem is writing code for controlling the engine of calculator which sequences of sum actions.
    I have enum class on itself. Atm i think thats ok. I have another class - the engine which does the work.
    I planned to have a switch statement which takes in parameter of a string n. This string n is received from the user interface when users press a button say; "1 + 2 = " which each time n should be "1", "+", "2" and "=" respectively.
    My algorithm would be as follows checking if its a operator(+) a case carry out adding etc.. each case producing its own task. ( I know i can do it with many simple if..else but that is bad programming technique hence im not going down that route) So here the problem arises - i cant get the switch to successfully complete its task... How about look at my code to understand it better.
    I have posted below all the relevant code i got so far, not including the swing codes because they are not needed here...
    ValidOperators v;
    public Calculator_Engine(ValidOperators v){
              stack = new Stack(20);
              //The creation of the stack...
              this.v = v;
    public void main_Engine(String n){
           ValidOperators v = ValidOperators.numbers;
                    *vo = vo.valueOf(n);*
         switch(v){
         case Add: add();  break;
         case Sub: sub(); break;
         case Mul: Mul(); break;
         case Div: Div(); break;
         case Eq:sum = stack.sPop(); System.out.println("Sum= " + sum);
         default: double number = Integer.parseInt(n);
                       numberPressed(number);
                       break;
                      //default meaning its number so pass it to a method to do a job
    public enum ValidOperators {
         Add("+"), Sub("-"), Mul("X"), Div("/"),
         Eq("="), Numbers("?"); }
         Notes*
    It gives out error: "No enum const class ValidOperators.+" when i press button +.
    It has nothing to do with listeners as it highlighted the error is coming from the line:switch(v){
    I think i know where the problem is.. the line "vo = vo.valueOf(n);"
    This line gets the string and store the enum as that value instead of Add, Sub etc... So how would i solve the problem?
    But.. I dont know how to fix it. ANy help would be good
    Need more info please ask!
    Thanks in advance.

    demo:
    import java.util.*;
    public class EnumExample {
        enum E {
            STAR("*"), HASH("#");
            private String symbol;
            private static Map<String, E> map = new HashMap<String, E>();
            static {
                put(STAR);
                put(HASH);
            public String getSymbol() {
                return symbol;
            private E(String symbol) {
                this.symbol = symbol;
            private static void put(E e) {
                map.put(e.getSymbol(), e);
            public static E parse(String symbol) {
                return map.get(symbol);
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            System.out.println(E.valueOf("STAR")); //succeeds
            System.out.println(E.parse("*")); //succeeds
            System.out.println(E.parse("STAR")); //fails: null
            System.out.println(E.valueOf("*")); //fails: IllegalArgumentException
    }

  • Help with swap images using rollovers

    I have a website created using DW CS5. Recently purchased FW CS5 to help with web graphics and design. I am trying to create a list of numbers that will swap with images. The intial page would simply be a list of numbers and 1 static image. Each number, when hovered will change the image with another. I've attempted this by first using DW and not having much success with FW either.
    If able to complete this using FW, is it possible to export the file for use in DW? Then insert into an AP Div?

    You're over-complicating it.
    Simply hit File>Save once you're done in photoshop.

  • Need Help With Military DTD Using FrameMaker 8

    Fellow Forum Members,
    I hope someone out there with experience in using Department of Defense DTDs with FrameMaker can contribute to this thread.
    Attached is the MIL STD 400051-2 DTD that needs to play with FrameMaker. Does anyone out there know where I could find FrameMaker templates already setup that comply and play with the MIL STD 400051-2 DTD standard? If the Department of Defense is freely distributing the MIL STD 400051-2 DTD, shouldn't somebody in the Department of Defense also be providing MIL STD 400051-2 FrameMaker Templates for free that are already setup?  I would greatly appreciate if anyone out there could provide an online source where I could download MIL STD 400051-2 FrameMaker templates.
    Lastly, can anyone out there clarify what the purpose of the entities are inside the "Charant" and "Boilerplate" folders?  The Department of Defense does not provide a readme file that define what the "Charant" and "Boilerplate" folders are about.
    Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    I'll answer the specifics that I know about your questions, but please look at the post from Srini for additional info:
    1) Do i need to do full export using SYS/SYSTEM user.
    exp80 system/manager file=c:full.dmp log=c:\full.txt full=y consistent=yA full export will move as much information (metadata/data) as possible. In order to do a full export/import, you need to do this from a
    privileged account. A privileged account is one with EXP_FULL_DATABASE for export and IMP_FULL_DATABASE for import.
    2) Will there be any data corruption while export.The data in the objects that you are exporting is being read, nothing is written to user data. I'm not sure what this is available in 8.0.6,
    but if you need a consistent export, look to see if consistent=y is available in 8.0.6. All this means is that the dump file created will have
    consistent data in it.
    3) Is export/import the only method of migration/upgradation.If you are changing hardware, the only supported way from 8.0 to 10.2.0.4, that I know of, is using exp/imp.

  • Help with web.xml and deploying a servlet

    Hello,
    I've been tearing me hair out for the last few hours trying to get this to work... I've got a servlet org.fatbaob.servtest.Servtest that I want to deploy with Tomcat 4.0.4. It doesn't seem to mater what I put in the web.xml file I'm always getting 404 errors.
    The servlet is contained in a file c:\development\projects\servtest\WEB_INF\classes\org\fatboab\servtest\Servtest
    which mapped with a <context> tag in the Tomcat conf\server.xml file:
    <!-- Servtest context -->
         <Context path="/servtest" docBase="C:\development\projects\servtest" debug="0" privileged="true" reloadable="true">
         <Logger className="org.apache.catalina.logger.FileLogger" prefix="localhost_servtest_log." suffix=".txt" timestamp="true"/>
    </Context>
    My web.xml file contains:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN" "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">
    <web-app>
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>ServTest</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>org.fatboab.servtest.Servtest</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    </web-app>
    Although I have tried putting in <servlet-mapping> tags, but they didn't seem to work either.
    My html file contains:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en">

    </head>
    <body>
    <h1>Servlet Test</h1>
    <form action="/servtest/servlet/org.fatboab.servtest.Servtest" method="post">

    </form>
    </body>
    </html>
    The 404 error I get is:
    description The requested resource (/servtest/servlet/org.fatboab.servtest.Servtest) is not available.

    1) Have you looked up the symbian error -36 on new-lc?
    2) Have you tried the example in the response on forum nokia?
    3) Is the address "121.97.220.162:8084" accessible from the internet, on the device, on the specified port?

  • Help with sending emails to multiple users.

    Currently we have a process to send mail to muliple users by looping through the list of users and sending each individual an email
    <Action id='1' name='sendEmail' application='com.waveset.provision.WorkflowServices'>
    <Argument name='op' value='notify'/>
    <Argument name='template' value='$(template)'/>
    <Argument name='toUser' value='$(tuser)'/>
    <Argument name='catch' value='notificationException'/>
    </Action>
    The variable tuser contains a single email address.
    Is there any way to setup tuser to contain multiple email addresses?
    I have tried passing a list and a string separated by colons (ex: <s>[email protected]; [email protected]</s>) and neither one works.
    Question 2
    Is it a bad idea to try and send email to up to 50000 users at once using IDM? Besides the fact that I would need to search for specific users and get their email addresses based on their capabilities.

    Hi,
    For sending emails to multiple users, use to instead of toUser. Put the names in comma seperated values
    <Action id='0' application='com.waveset.provision.WorkflowServices'>
    <Argument name='op' value='notify'/>
    <Argument name='template' value='$(template)'/>
    <Argument name='to' value='$(to)'/>
    <Argument name='cc' value='$(cc)'/>
    <Argument name='catch' value='notificationException'/>
    </Action>
    You can use IDM to send emails.
    it will be a good idea to break down the email that you are sending into groups/batches. If possible, you can send email to DL s
    Else, you can segregate the users based on roles and send emails. This will reduce the load. Hope it helps
