Help with WinXP install... Is VC the culprit?

Recently, I purchased a whole new set of parts to build another computer.  I need help on how I can fix this thing, because WinXP Home SP1 doesn't want to complete the installation.  This is the setup as it is...
Thermaltake XaserIII Midtower ATX
Thermaltake Purepower 400v PS
Temp sensor w/4 fan control
Soyo KT600 Dragon Ultra Platinum
AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Barton
2x512mb Corsair DDR400
Western Digital WD2000JD 200GB SATA HDD
MSI FX5700 VT2DR256
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
HP DVD+R/+RW dvd200i
Generic DVD ROM
Generic FDD
Soyo 6-in-1 card reader thingie  (Came with MB, no PCI plugs, just USB/1394)
Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Optical
Some dumb Compaq explorer keyboard  (SK-2800C)
Another crappy Compaq monitor  (MV520)
Seagate 10GB HDD EIDE
Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1
I listed everything that is inside and outside of my case.  I have the 10GB HDD just in case, and it's just a leftover from the old computer.  (It was a compaq if you didn't already guess)  I contacted Microsoft and spent some 10 total hours with them trying every damn thing possible to start this sucker up, and it still freezes.  (They say take it to a tech shop...  I don't have the time for that)  I am in the stage in the Win install where it starts to ask for info.  Reg#, name, time/date, etc.  It freezes anywhere between just after entering the Reg#, and until "Saving Settings", which I recall as the last step.  Then, the monitor either turns blank, or the system freezes completely.  It usually stalls out around the Registering Components section of this.  Can anyone help?  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

It is a copy of XP Home SP1.  It isn't recovery diskettes...  Well, ladies and gentlemen...  My computer is finally seeking help...  It finally at least told me what it needs...  The following error messages popped up while I was out doing something, and here is what they are...
First, from Washington DC, she likes long walks on the beach, walking her poodle, and playing in dumpsters...  Suitors, meet "Windows could not load the installer for Display.  Contact your hardware vendor for assistance."
Next, from Long Beach, CA...  She loves the guys, the cars, and the money...  But don't think that makes her easy...  Meet "Windows could not load the installer for Monitor.  Contact your hardware vendor for assistance."
Now, by display, does it reference to my VC or monitor?  Also, when the hell do I load the installer into the Windows installer?

Your iTunes account is something at the iTunes Store online.  It is not possible to uninstall it.  Do you mean the iTunes application?  Even if you delete the application and restore it, it should not have deleted your iTunes library (essentially the contents of the iTunes folder in Music) on your computer unless you did a separate steep and specifically deleted that too.  You need to tell us what it was you deleted.

revert back to Maverick that is what I had to finally do. This was the worst upgrade I have ever seen. Hopefully you have Time Machine backup and can revert back. It was pretty painless except for a few issues. I will wait until Apple gets their stuff together on this upgrade or may never will.

need some help with downloading PDF's from the net.  Each time I try to click on a link from a website, if it takes me to a new screen to view a pdf, it just comes up as a blank black screen?  any suggestions?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Please help with WinXP

I installed Java 1.4.1 Plug-in on a couple of Win98 computers, and everything works OK.
    An applet launches a program by executing Runtime.getRuntime().exec(start C:\\AcroRd C:\\Mydocu~1\\myfile.pdf);
AcroRd is shortcut to Acrobat Reader.
On a computer with WinXP, I get the following error: java.io.IOException: The system cannot find the path specified.
myfile.pdf is written prior to launching Acrobat; however, I don't see it in My Documents on the XP machine.
Security policy is the same as on the Win98 machines.
What is most aggravating is that it worked with java 1.3.1.
    Please help.
    Thank you all.

Try replacing Mydocu~1 with the long version of the directory name
(might need quoting if it contains spaces - don't think so, tho)

  • Tips and help with re-installing Lion over Snow Leopard

I had MAJOR issues with my initial Lion install on my Mid-2009 MBP- so much so, that I had to wipe my hard drive and re-install Snow Leopard and all my applications. My major issues were as follows:
    1. All my files were locked out- I could open them in most cases, but I couldn't overwrite them- Lion had aded some funky permissions scheme that I didn't recognize, and my user name wasn't present on any of them. In some cases, I couldn't even open files, even though they were resident on my hard drive (and in my own user folder) before the upgrade to Lion.
    2. Apple's own Universal Binary apps wouldn't work after the upgrade. Final Cut Pro 6, in particular, came up with a message that it was a "PowerPC" app and wouldn't run- yet Shake 4.1 would run just fine!
    3. Adobe Creative Suite 3- after the upgrade, my Abode Ceative Suite 3 apps worked just fine, for about a day- that is, until I tried to correct the file permissions issue by changing permission on a few of my folders in my User folder (and electing to change permissions in the files contained therein)- at which point my Adobe apps told me that they were damaged and needed to be reinstalled. Yet after uninstaling and reinstalling the entire Creative Suite 3 times, I still would get the same message.
My entire workflow is Adobe CS and FCS2- why chould I have to pay the upgrade costs just to use Lion? FCPX is completely brkoen for my workflow and eqipment, and Adobe can't even guarantee that CS5 works with Lion- so why does Apple insist on Lion when it's hardly even compatible with its own products?
I really want to use Lion, but I am looking for some tips on instalation to kep these problems from happening again. I didn' have ANY of these problems with upgrading OS 10.2 through 10.6. Any help with prepping my system/files for upgrading would be helpful. Thanks!

Me, I think clone backups are more useful, and only use T.M. as secondary.
Using Cloning as a Backup Strategy
I'd assume that professional apps may need to be tested still; and of course check to see what you have that depends on PowerPC code and Rosetta first. That has some in a tither.
A clone lets you still be able to boot Snow Leopard. Check out Carbon Copy, SuperDuper.

I'm installing to a Windows XP SP 3 machine with at least 1 gig of ram, and a 1 Tb hard drive that's less than half full, so I don't think it's a hardware issue.  I cannot find the named file running anywhere on the machine - anyone run into this?

    Hi,
Please open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc. Open "Processes" tab. Make sure you click "Show processes from all users" . Please see ifElementsAutoAnalyzer.exe is shown in the TaskManager.  Please close it and then try to install again.

  • Help with 11gR2 install (win32) - can't get EM working

Hi, I'm doing a clean install of 11.2.0.2 on a windows XP professional virtual machine. I've gone through this procedure 5 or 6 times now, and keep ending up with the same problem. Here's what I've done so far:
    1. Software only install (11.2.0.2)
    2. Ran network config assistant to set up LISTENER
    3. Run the database configuration assistent to set up a simple database
The DBCA keeps ending up with an error message during the install saying "Error starting database control. Execute the following statements: 1) Set the environment variable ORACLE_UNQNAME to database unique name. 2) c:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\bin\emctl.bat start dbconsole
If I do that, the dbconsole still doesn't start. Also I've tried setting the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID environment variables - they don't seem to work either. When it starts running the emctl.bat, I see the banner info, followed by "the dbconsole is starting...", then it dies with an error 2, saying refer typing net helpmsg 3547 (which is generic)
Am I doing something dumb here? Not very savy on installations, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thinking the dbconsole should come up on a clean install without jumping through a ton of hoops.
    Thanks,
    Scott

Pavan, thanks for the link. Actually, for this try around (probably my 5th or 6th over the last two days) it seems to be magically working. The ONLY difference is that I went into the c:\windows\system32\etc\hosts file and specifically added a line for the VM name, i.e.:
    Oracle11gR2 192.168.1.2
Do you think that could have made a difference?

  • Help with Silent Install

    Hi
I'm trying to perform a silent install of XE in winXP sp2 and get the same result each time, the installs starts up shows an icon on the taskbar and then exits with resultcode=-3.
I've been through the forums and tried everything possible so far without success.
The normal install works fine and I was able to create a response file which I then attempted to use for the silent install, I also tried the response file on the Oracle site with the same result. Is there anyway to determine at which dialog the installer is failing or is there anything else I can try?
    Thanks
    Govind

What userid are you using to perform the install?
Because of the way my company manages security on our laptops, I had to create a "local" account on the laptop. Then add that "local" account as part of the Administrators of the laptop. My typical "network" based account would not complete the install EVEN THOUGH THAT "network" account was part of the Administrators group on the laptop.
There is also a feature called RunAs on Windows that allows you to run a scheduled install like the silent one using a different userid from the one you are logged in as.

I'd find that 2nd DVD, it's supposed to come with OSX
10.4. Follow the instructions on this article and an
"Applications (OS9)" folder will appear in your
    Macintosh HD.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/
    en/mh763.html
OS 9 has not shipped with OS X since Jaguar.
However, OS 9 does ship with PPC Macs. It should be on the install DVD, or on the 2nd or 3rd CD, depending on which Mac. Example: my original 700 MHz eMac shipped with OS X 10.1 and OS 9.2.2 on separate CDs, both bootable. My 1.25 GHz eMac shipped with OS X 10.3 and OS 9.2.2, with the OS X disc being bootable and the OS 9.2.2 disc being part of the applications suite and not being bootable. My 2.1 GHz iMac shipped with OS X 10.4 and OS 9.2.2 on the same DVD. OS 9.2.2 is again part of the application suite and cannot be booted from the DVD. The Intel Macs at the office shipped with OS X 10.4 and that's it, no OS 9.2.2 as Classic does not run on them.
A boxed set of OS X 10.2 shipped with OS 9.2.2 on a separate CD. (It was a white 'universal install' CD and would install on all Macs produced up to that time.) I have such a boxed set on a shelf in the cupboard right now. A boxed set of OS X 10.3 shipped with four CDs, none of which was OS 9. I have such a boxed set on a shelf near my eMac right now. A boxed set of 10.4 shipped with a single DVD. I have such a boxed set on a shelf near my eMac right now. I have just opened the box and verified by sight: one DVD, OS X only. A further check of the contents of that DVD show no mention of OS 9.
The OP will need to have the system CDs or DVD which shipped with his Mac to install Classic.

  • Help with Classic install

Hi all, I'm sure this question has been asked before so forgive me. I've looked all around and found solutions that were 'similar' to my problem but none that will work. here we go.
I just got an old Mac G4 tower (AGP) and bought Tiger to put on it. (not sure what version of OSX was on it before) Anyway I did a clean install and everythig works great. No problems at all.
I was installing a program yesterday that turns out needs Classic support. Right now there is no updated version of this program and I need to run it. My machine doesnt have Classic support. How do I install it? I've read that there is a second install disk that you can use my my boxed version of OSX has only one disk. I searched the disk and see that there is a Classic folder on it with an install app but when i run it it doesnt do anything. It just informs me that neither of my hard drivers have Classic.
I'm stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I REALLY need to run this legacy application.

  • I need help with network install of SQL Developer 3.2

    All,
Does anyone have any references on how to perform a network install for SQL Developer? Here is what I'm trying to achieve:
    1. Network installation on drive S:\ (Windows, obviously)
    2. User links to network installation
    3. Connections are unique for each user
I found the 2006 posting of network install for Raptor, but I could not find anything that correlates with the latest release. All I have done so far is downloaded and unzipped. Any help/instructions/guides/tutorials are welcome.

You have installed!.  The code for SQLDeveloper does not have an installer.
If the software is on S, say a shared drive, each user will start sqldeveloper and a directory called sqldeveloper  will be created in their local %APPLICATION_DATA% folder.  This will keep all connections etc unique for all users.
You will have to create a link from the S drive to the sqldeveloper.exe if you want a shortcut to start it.  We dont provide it.
    Thanks

  • Help with hosting multiple versions of the same schema

    Hi All…
I have a problem that I need some help/advice on how to manage it. I have scoured the forums here but only found bits and pieces of what I’m trying to do.
Basically I have a small application that I am hosting the database for. As each client comes online I need to create a schema for them. I have written the application so that it does not reference the schema name (assumes ownership or public/private schema). If you log in as the owner then everything is fine. However I am at the point now that I would like to start overhauling the security so that I can support and manage the different users logging in. I currently have after update triggers on all tables that sets the user_id/timestamp for auditing issues.
I have a few different scenarios that I need to be able to support as far as clientele.
    1)     I host database: 1 client = 1 schema
    2)     Client hosts database: 1 client = 1 schema
    3)     Client organization hosts database: 1 dept = 1 client = 1 schema (same as 1 except client organization is hosting database). The department are so different (budget, staff, different support contract) that they are different customers but their organization is so big they have large outsourced databases.
    4)     There is also the chance that 1 client might allow the same user (single oracle account) access to two versions of the application.
I also have two versions of my software, client/server and an under development distributed/web-based. I need a single solution that works best across both platforms
Anyhow I have been warned that creating private synonyms will become a nightmare once there are lots of users. I also don’t want to log in as the schema owner as that too will become very difficult to manage security/rights (especially on a web based system).
I also need a solution that is simple to manage and will fit with the ‘generic’ client that hosts their own database.
These are the solutions I see right now:
    1)     new instance for each schema – not cost effective and probably not satisfactory for large clients
    2)     Re-write all sql statements to use a master stored proc that then dynamically forwards to appropriate schema – sounds gross
    3)     Somehow altering my sql statements at runtime to ‘modify’ the schema name dynamically – lot of re-work and difficult to debug
    4)     FGAC – sounds perfect but competing clients aren’t going to accept that for security/privacy etc no matter how safe I tell them it is.
    5)     Using some sort of ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA and tricking the database to thinking someone else is logged in? – this is the one I found in the forums but haven’t found much else on. How is this different than just logging in as the owner?
In my perfect world I think I would want to be able to point roles at certain schemas. But Oracle doesn’t seem to support that. Then I could have companyOneReadOnly = company1schema + all the read-only privileges.
Anyhow any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    jack

    Hi Kim,
May be you can try this and see if this works for you. I am not 100% sure if it will work for you, but worth a try I guess. Create a Test WebDynpro project and try the following steps on this project. If they work  out correctly and serve the purpose for you only then try them on your actual Web Dynpro project.
    1. Create a test Web Dynpro project  say "TestWDProject" with Component say "Comp1" and the default views and windows etc.
Also create some working application our of this component and Windows using the Context.
    2. Right click the "Comp1" and select Copy.
    3. Right click 'Components" node in the project structure and select "Paste"
4.This step will try to paste the copy of Comp1 as a new Component.
    5. You can change the Name and Package of the Component.
6.Similarly you'll get the prompts for views, windows etc.
7.Once you have copied everything, Just check if everything looks good.
8.Now you can create a new Application using this new component and the Component Interface View and Deploy it.
9.Test whether the Application created out of this copy works same as the original component.
You can also try to create another Web Dynpro project and paste the Comp1 in the Components node of that new project and perform the same steps.
Again, try with these Test Projects and see if this serves your purpose before applying the steps on actual projects.

    Ajay

  • Please help with "You can't open the application NovamediaDiskSupressor because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." I have seen other responses on this but am not a techie and would not know how to start with that solution.

Please help with the message I am receving on startup ""You can't open the application NovamediaDiskSupressor because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."
I have read some of the replies in the Apple Support Communities, but as I am no techie, I would have no idea how I would implement that solution.
Please help with what I need to type, how, where, etc.
    Many thanks
    AppleSueIn HunterCreek

I am afraid there is no solution.
PowerPC refers to the processing chip used by Apple before they transferred to Intel chips. They are very different, and applications written only for PPC Macs cannot work on a Mac running Lion.
You could contact the developers to see if they have an updated version in the pipeline.
