Here's What Worked!!  Yeah!  1402 was conquered!!

I am not an expert but this is what worked for me. I kept getting an error of 1402 when I ried to install quicktime stand alone. The reason I tried to install this was because I would get a message during the general installation that said Itunes would not open because I had quicktime 6.5 installed instead of 7.02. I tried everything mentioned including changing permissions in the registry, installing windows install cleanup, etc., etc,. What actually worked was going to start then run typing in regedit and deleting everything that said quick time. After doing that I disable Norton and dowloaded the quicktime standalone and it worked. I then dowloaded Itunes and it worked. I didn't lose any music or anything. I hope this helps, but please check with someone who knows more before you take my advice. I am finally back.

it worked until the next time I synced the iPod, and then back to the freeze up. Next thing I tried was this Microsoft help page:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
which advises on several things, all of which seem helpful, but the thing still freezes up. I can sync the iPod, then the system freezes and I have to reboot. So, I now believe Apple will have to issue a patch for these bugs when using the new 5G iPods with WinXP.

  • Here's what worked for me...

    Here's what worked for me:
    1) I opened iTunes and in Options, I selected iTunes as the default music player for my computer (it wasn't). (I even uninstalled RealPlayer and WinAmp.)
    2) I uninstalled iTunes and iPod, and reinstalled using the newer versions on the Apple site.
    3) I basically followed this advice:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=291183&tstart=0
Which was basically to leave my iPod connected to the computer while rebooting. The first 2 times it didn't work, I forgot to put iTunes in the start menu, so that it opens when I reboot. I put iTunes and iTunes Helper (whatever that is) in the start menu (I used WinPatrol to do so, available for free here: http://www.winpatrol.com/), and then rebooted, and after a couple of tries, like magic iTunes opened, recognized my iPod, and updated it, and then, for the first time, without freezing my system, told me it was okay to disconnect.
It even worked while still running my regular systray apps, like McAfee VirusScan, Ewido Anti-Malware, Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta, and SpywareBlaster, so those were not the issue. I get the impression you need to boot it once so it recognizes the iPod and does that handshake thing, and hopefully after that it'll always do the same. We'll see...
I hope this helps someone, b/c its been a frustrating day working through all this, and I know a lot of others are still trying to get it solved. And thanks to jcog for posting his solution, that helped me, and hopefully this will help someone else...

  • Audio Dropout - Fixed! -Here's what worked for me

Hardware: Airport Express, Intel iMac 10.4, Belkin N1 Router
    *The problem:*
When streaming iTunes music to my Airport Express, audio cut out after a few seconds.
    Troubleshooting:
    1) Moved Airport Express closer - no effect
    2) Uprgraded firmware - no effect
    3) Restored Airport Express to factor default - no effect
    4) Then I wanted to see if there was some WiFi interference. Connected my computers to my network by ethernet rather than WiFi. Set my Airport Express as a new network (Apple Network XXXX), then connected my computer to the new network rather than my existing WiFi network. It worked! This told me there was something with my network causing the problem.
    *The fix:*
So I went in to settings pages for my router to see what I could change. I ended up switching from 'g+n' to 'bgn'. I also disabled the option for 'protected mode'. Thats it. Everything is fine now. Hope maybe this helps someone.

  • Finally, activation success!  Here is what worked for me:

    After 38+ hours
I bought 2 iPhones. For both of them I was porting a number over from Sprint (from the same account).
Selected the Family plan for activation.
Within an hour, the first iPhone was activated for all but incoming calls (My wife's phone).
The second iPhone I got the dreaded "Your activation requires additional time to complete"
I called every number that I could find. Almost everyone told me to wait. There were 2 calls where people actually did something to my account.
Here are the people who actually appeared to do something:
Called 1-877-777-4189 (I think. Either that or it was 800-331-0500)
Was answered immediately. Spoke with Nancy who transferred me to number porting services. (Which she said the number for porting services was 1-888-898-7685, so I would recommend calling them directly)
I spoke with Stephanie Engel (sp?) at number porting services.
She found that my Sprint number had not yet been transferred over properly. I had to give her my IMEI number off the back of my phone and the number off of my SIM card. After I gave her those she said she was able to activate my sim card. However it didn't change anything about the state of my iPhone waiting to activate. She transferred me to some iPhone activate people who were unhelpful.
    Then I called 1-877-800-3701
    Select option 3
Enter your order ID # as requested.
For mine the computer said that they needed additional information.
Then it put me on hold for a customer service rep.
I was on hold for a long time (30-45minutes)
Finally got a customer service rep.
He tried to activate it, and the first time it didn't work.
He had to put me on hold several times, had me power off and power back on my phone several times. Eventually he did something that made my phone activate. YAY!!!
If you get someone who tells you to wait longer, I'd recommend hanging up with them and calling back till you get someone who will try to help. There are people at this number who can help.
The customer service rep never asked for any additional information, so it was something he had to do to activate it manually.
I think the porting number issue had to be fixed before talk to the people at 1-877-800-3701 would help.
There is also a thread on at&t about this:
    http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=apple&thread.id=1453&v iew=bydateascending&page=1

    Agreed!!
Same story......after waiting over 36 hours for activation, finally called 877-800-3701 AGAIN (probably the 4th or 5th time) and got an incredible CS person named Michelle who could not have been more helpful. She actually took the time to look at my account, saw that it was ready to activate, and went through all the steps to manually activate it. Whole process took about 45 minutes, but it was with someone from AT & T instead of waiting around all day for some magical email. Now, iPhone works like a charm and was worth the wait.
So to all still waiting for activation, keep calling the 3701 number. And keep doing it until someone takes the time to help you. It really does work......

  • Having trouble with your iphone6 not connecting to your car? here is what worked for me

    Back up your phone!!!
Go to Settings>General at the bottom of the screen hit “Reset.” On next screen select "Reset All Settings." This will reset your locked screen, your internet passwords, Touch ID & Passcode, your zoomed view, battery percentage, etc. You won’t  loose any apps or docs. Just go back and change them as you did when you first got the phone. Delete all the Bluetooth devices on both in your Car and on the iPhone (on the phone: go to Bluetooth>My Devices, click on the “i” at the right and click on "Forget This Device"). Shut down both the phone and the car. Restart the car and the phone. “Pair" your phone. Shut the car off and restart. Give it a few minutes to allow the car to update the phonebook.
    This worked like a gem.

  • TS2756 Here is what worked for me for wifi

Change your hotspot device name if it looks strange as a wifi SSID. eg use "John iPhone" instead of "John's iPhone"
Got to Settings > FaceTime and scroll down to the bottom.
Turn Use Cellular Data to off for FaceTime
Turn your phone off. (I think this might be important).
    Turn the phone back on.
Go to Settings > General > Cellular > Personal Hotspot and switch it on.
Try to connect to hotspot again over Wifi
(Not tested) It should be OK to turn Cellular data back on for FaceTime, if you really need to.
Repeat steps above if problem returns.
So I think some kind of clash with FaceTime was the problem. It might explain how I was able to connect through my iPad (but not my iPhone). I had never used my iPad for FaceTime.
My iPhone is 4s, running IOS 6.1.3, although this issue has been around for a few IOS versions.
    Hope it helps someone.

  • Snow Leopard Printing Woes - what worked for me

I found many print problems posted EVERYWHERE from every printer manufacturer and model and many solutions and some worked for some people. None worked for me.
I have a HP Laserjet 2100M, which is old, but is listed as compatible with SL. I cannot part with it, as it is a true laser printer, not a monochrome, which means when I need to colour separate say a blue and red document, it prints as solid, not grayscale. It has printed 44,820 pages for me over the years, with only laser cartridge replacement as an expense. As well, I cannot find anything but monochrome for a replacement.
It worked on my old iMac G5 running Leopard, however, when I got my new iMac running Snow Leopard, I got "Printer Offline" message and it would not go online and while some solution ideas got it to print, sometimes, it was only good for one or two jobs and then would stop again, or it would say printing and nothing would print.
Here is what worked for me:
I disconnected my printer's usb and power supply, reset printer system.
Went to Macintosh HD-Library-printers-PPDs-contents-resources and deleted all of the HP Drivers.
I got my HP 2100 series driver from my old iMac and put that back in the resources folder and emptied trash.
    I shut down my computer.
    Replugged in power to printer.
    Started up computer.
After fully launched, I connected my USB cable for the printer. I went to add printer and it came up right away and said new software update was available for my printer AND I SAID NO to updating. In selected my driver, and...
My printer and I have reached a compromise!
It still says offline, however, everything is printing anyway... this I can live with.
I also found this link, which I will only try if I encounter any other disruptions
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&task Id=110&prodSeriesId=385457&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=385457&objectID=c018677 22
At some point I printed a Self Test/Configuration page which has I/O Port Status as
    USB STATUS - not ready
    and Appletalk Status - Ready
which is probably a good clue, however, I have been printing successfully for 15 hours and my hair is starting to grow back.

The HP document appears to solve your issue. When your hair starts falling out again, use it.

  • T400 type 2768, Internal Speakers do not work? Here's what I have tried.

    Hello all,
I just spent hours reading all the problems people have had with their thinkpad internal speakers not working. I bought this computer, which is past the warranty date, and am trying to fix it myself. It originally had Vista installed, and was upgraded before I bought it to windows 7. Once I updated the driver for audio, the three audio buttons began to work, but not the speakers. The headphone jack does work, however? Here is what I have done to try to fix this based on what I read on past posts in this forum:
updated windows, installed over 72 files
updated lenovo drivers for windows 7, installed 132 files. Not all applicable.  Just covering my bases.
rolled back bios to default setting
    uninstalled and reinstalled audio driver
    updated BIOS again
installed new speakers.  Old ones looked fine. No melting, pinched wires, and the inside of the laptop looked fine.
inserted headphones in and out several times to see if the audio is interupted by cutoff there. Sound was fine in headphones, but nothing happened.  No noise or static or anything.
I read that this issue could be a motherboard problem? Every diagnostic I ran indicates that the sound is functioning normally. I need to know what to do next. I feel like I got took, but do really like the computer.
    Can anyone help? Thanks.

If Eric's suggestion doesn't work, open System Preferences, go to "sound" and check to see of the mute button is not checked. Also check if the output name is "digital output" rather than "internal speakers" If it is, then it maybe it is the logic board, which it was in my case. However, it was covered under my warrenty. My sound problem came from a faulty logic board that was replaced in my computer for a "non boot" problem.
    Good luck

  • HT201263 My iPod touch suddenly stopped working. It was fine, but when I went back the screen had gone black and I was unable to turn it on. It is now unresponsive and my computer does not recognize it when it is plugged in. What should I do?

My iPod touch suddenly stopped working. It was fine earlier, but when I went back a few hours later, the screen had gone black and I was unable to turn it on. It is now unresponsive and my computer does not recognize it when it is plugged in. I thought it just needed to be charged but there seems to be a larger issue now. What should I do?

Let your ipod die. Then when it is dead charge it adn turn it back on. After that it should be fine.

Assuming you mean that you performed the repair yourself, it would seem that you either obtained a defective screen or you did some sort of damage when you replaced the screen. You can try asking for assistance on ifixit.com, a site dedicate to those attempting their own repairs, or you can take the iPad to a shop and pay them to try to correct the problem for you. Apple will no longer touch your iPad now that you've attempted your own repairs.
    Regards.

Try resetting.  Hold the sleep wake button (on the top edge), and the home button (round button on the front with the white square) at the same time for 10-15 seconds.  If you see the apple logo, let go.  Your phone should restart.  If not?

  • The Enterprise Mac: What works on a Mac based on my experience at SAP.

I've been a Mac User at SAP for 4.5 years and here's what I have running and what I know of that should work.
First, the stuff that I rely on everyday:
    <b>
SAP Portal in Firefox </b>- almost everything works. The navigation panel has a scroll bar in it, but is usable.  I have imported my SSO certificate from Secude's SSO solution on PC into Firefox, so I can access SAP's corporate portal.
<b>Firepass and Contivity VPN</b>- Both VPN solutions work with my PowerBook G4, although I heard that Intel based macs  don't yet work with F4 networks Firepass.  At TechEd Las Vegas '06 F4 claimed that this is now fixed and SAP has yet to deploy it.
<b>Windows Networking, File Servers</b>-  This works exceptionally well (except the resource links on mac use slashes (like web addresses) and in windows they use whacks (\).  Annoying.  I can authenticate agains the domain and even change my NT login password.  I use Dave from  <a href="http://www.thursby.com">Thursby Software</a>.   For proxy serving I use auto-configuration using a PAC file.
<b>Desk-top to desk-top sharing</b>- I use this everyday because I have both a Widows Machine (for Netmeeting) and I need to share files back and forth.  I can open the Mac from the Windows machine and the reverse.  Again I use Dave from <a href="http://www.thursby.com">Thursby Software</a>.
<b>Remote Desktop</b>- Working for a software company inevadably need to access servers via .  It works great!<a href="http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=remotedesktopclient">Remote Desktop from Microsoft</a>.
    <b>Microsoft Office</b>- I love it on Mac!
<b>Email</b>- I use Entourage, the Exchange client in Mac Office. Over all a good program but suffers from not being fully featured. My top two gripes are: You can book resources in Meeting Requests and you can't forward meeting requests!
<b>Wireless</b>-I use <a href="http://www.ipass.com/">iPass</a> for Mac and it works great when I travel! I can also automatically authenticate against SAP's corporate wireless network using 802.1x.
<b>Corporate Printers</b>- I use Dave from <a href="http://www.thursby.com">Thursby Software</a> again.  It works very well.  Others have had success without Dave.
<b>Collaboration</b>-  Webex works very well, and I have heard that NetMeeting has a Java client.  I haven't used it though.  Anyone?
    == What I heard works ==
<b>SAPGui Java client</b>- I also heard that it is far behind the Windows version.  Any comments?
<b>Secude SSO Java client</b>- Apparently the version we're using inside SAP is not an officially supported version by Secude.  My contacts there say that they are working on an official version in the near future.  Stay tuned.
<b>Windows Messenger</b>-  Apparently it was working in SAP, but it was taken down for security reasons... Don't know much else.  It sure would make my life easier when its up since the entire company is now using it.

    Hi Eric,
My experience on an Intel Mac is this:
    - Any <b>SAP website</b> that requires a security certificate does not work in Safari. I've been led to believe this is Apple's problem, and I can work around it by using Firefox, but still. In Firefox, there are issues with SAP's websites. In the forums, for example, and page will open in the middle, in stead of at the top.
    - <b>Windows networking</b>: the usual problem is OS X's inability to remember logins. It's fairly annoying to have to re-type my login and password every day. And at my current client I can't get to the network at all. I'll have a look at Dave, see if that helps.
    - <b>Office</b>: it works well, now that I've upgraded my MBP from 1 to 2 GB. Before it was sluggish, and in tandem with Parallels, it was physically painful. Now, even when both programs are running, they run just fine. Although Office could use some more of "the snappy".
    - I use <b>Mail, Address Book, and iCal</b>. It does what I need.  The only thing I'd be interested in is some way of plugging into my customer's address book to find e-mail addresses.
    - <b>SAPGUI for Java</b>: this works, mostly, but it is slow. Embarrassingly so. It's slow in general, but anytime a longish list needs to be loaded, it gets real bad. Try working in the ABAP editor with an include of 3,000 or more lines... Apart from the slowness, there are a number of missing functions for which I keep Parallels handy. Drag and drop is one, and on the 6.4 version, there was a GUI control that would make the GUI crash.
    - <b>Parallels</b>. I can't say enough good stuff about this. Parallels. Parallels. Love it.
    <b>Some other points</b>:
    - I'd be interested if anyone has installed NetWeaver 2004s under Boot Camp. I'm a bit wary of dropping $300 on a license for WinXP when it may not ever work (Parallels is running W2K, in case you were wondering).
    - At TechEd, I had the hardest time connecting to the Internet, even with Firefox. A few sites I could get to, if I disabled images, JavaScript, and Java, but most, even the common ones such as Yahoo or Google, I could not. I ran into someone else using a MBP, and she had no problems whatsoever. So obviously the problem was with <i>my machine</i>, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was. Most frustrating!
